Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Llewellyn’s Spell a Day

Fairy Lights
Spell Date: Sunday, December 23, 2018

One of the joyful—and free!— sights of the season is the displays of lights that go up in the month of December. In stores, in streets, or on homes, they illuminate the night with wishes of goodwill and cheer—and they also attract faeries.

Strings of tiny bulbs glitter like stars, glow light the twilight, and shimmer like all the shiny things fairies like. Tonight when you turn on your light display (or consider making a small display for the fae if you don’t put lights up), leave out some small seasonal sweets and invoke the fairies to bless your revels and bring luck in the coming year:

“The stars have come to earth,
Come and share our mirth!”

Now clap your hands or tap your foot on the ground three times and then continue:

“Eat, drink, be merry,
Elf, troll, and fairy!
And bestow upon this place
Love, luck, plenty, and peace.
Blessed be!”

Full Moon Divination
Spell Date: Saturday, December 22, 2018

To scry is to look into water, fire, or some other elemental focus in order to divine the past, present, or future. When the skies are clear and the moon is full, it’s a powerful time for moon-scrying.

You’ll need a candle and a large silver bowl half-filled with water. You’ll work outside, so dress appropriately.

First, place the bowl in a position where, when you’re sitting still and looking into the bowl, you can see the full moon’s reflection. Once this is arranged, light the candle and set it nearby.

Pause, close your eyes, and envision a question you want answered. When you have this, ask it aloud three times.

Now bend over the scrying bowl, gaze at the moon’s reflection, and wait for messages and inspirations— answers to your question. Continue your scrying session until you receive some sort of message.

Immediately afterward, make a dated journal entry about what transpired, and review it every few days. Extinguish the candle.

Magical Light Display
Spell Date: Thursday, December 20, 2018

Many people decorate their houses for Yule (or Christmas) at this time of year, and strings of colorful lights are one of the main forms of decoration. Far from being solely ornamental, these lights can be charged with intention so that the energy they emit is charged to bring peace, joy, and protection through the power of color magic.

Coil a strand of lights so that you can hold it and focus on joyful, positive feelings. Visualize the lights glowing with magical energy, and chant this spell to seal the intention:

“Energy spectrum, empowered strand,
a web of power to cover this land;
rainbow of electric light, shine
down blessings through the night;
each color glows with enchanting
charm to increase joy and dispel
harm; this magic so bright for all
to see and as I will, so mote it be.”

Put up the lights as soon as possible to unleash the magic.

Phoenix Power
Spell Date: Wednesday, December 19, 2018

The legend of the Phoenix—the fiery bird who combusts into flames, is reduced to ashes, and is reborn—is a powerful spirit to work with. We’ve all felt, at some time or other in life, as though we’ve been reduced to ashes and are unsure where we will go from that point. The only thing left to do at that time is to make like the Phoenix and rise! So why not call upon the spirit of the Phoenix for help?

Dress in fiery colors of vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. Light a candle on your altar and make a prayer to the Phoenix, asking it to assist you and fill you with power if it is willing. Ring a bell, beat a drum, or shake a rattle to welcome it. Continue drumming or rattling, or put on some music. Dance and allow it to fill you with its power!

Spell to Find Your Tribe
Spell Date: Tuesday, December 18, 2018

Many people believe that our soul mates are twenty to thirty people we incarnate with over and over again from lifetime to lifetime, and that within these groups we’ve all been each other’s parents, friends, lovers, children, clergy members, teachers, and more at one time or another, changing sex and gender with various lifetimes as well. In these troubled times, it can be a great comfort to find those special connections and nurture them.

For this spell, you’ll need a cluster crystal with points going out in multiple directions. Cleanse the crystal first with salt water and then, under the waxing moon, hold the crystal up toward the sky. Say:

“My tribe, I’m waiting for you
here and sending up a light.
Come be my family once again—
take the lonely from my nights!”

Keep the crystal on your altar and repeat the chant as desired.

A Monday Spell of Self-Nurturing
Spell Date: Monday, December 17, 2018

Ah, yes, another Monday. Not everybody likes Mondays because of the common nine-to-five weekday work schedule. Whether or not you follow this schedule, a spell like this can be beneficial for utilizing Monday’s nurturing lunar energies rather than giving in to the sometimes chaotic scrambling of the workweek.

The moon, as a planet of classical astrology, is the ruler of Monday. Most ancient cultures associate feminine energies with the moon. Milk is white like the moon and is also the sacred feminine fluid that sustains life. Eggs from all animals are also exclusively part of the feminine domain, and are connected to lunar energies by both shape and color (in many cases).

For this spell, acquire a bit of organic milk and a white egg from a cage-free and humanely raised chicken. (If you are vegan, feel free to substitute however you wish.) Hard-boil the egg and warm up the milk. Sit in a meditative location and, as you consume the egg and milk, repeat the following thirteen times:

“Goddess pure and Goddess
bright, lend me your healing
and lend me your light.”

Heartwings Love Notes 859: The Carols of Christmas

Heartwings says, “The songs that last are the ones we love best.”

One of my most precious childhood memories is of my mother with her violin tucked firmly under her chin, playing Silent Night on Christmas Eve. Though this carol is more modern, some of the traditional carols of Christmas date back to the 17th century or further. Others, like Silent Night (1818) and Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, (1865) one of my father’s big favorites, were more modern.

The words and melodies of Christmas hymns and carols have a magical effect. They connect us with our past, and not only our own personal past but the pasts of our ancestors who sang them. The old hymnal of my father’s Episcopal church had fascinating historical notes about the various Christmas carols as well as hymns. I often enjoyed perusing it while I was waiting for the service to begin. Whenever I have sung them I am always brought back to that church with its wonderful stained glass windows.

One of my favorite hymns, Of the Father’s Love Begotten, has roots in the 10th century, and its majestic chords invoke the soaring European cathedrals that predate the discovery of America. There is a part of us all which has been called the collective unconscious that embraces the past encoded in our very bones and responds to the sounds of celebration throughout the centuries. For all of history, singing has been an important part of universally celebrated holidays like Christmas, New Year’s and Easter.

These connections and others that we experience with the holidays heighten and expand how we feel. Our customs, too, connect us not only to our families but also to our ancestors as is fitting. Those who join Christmas carolers, for instance, are participating in a ritual that goes back centuries when children would go door to door in their villages begging treats and wishing the home owners Merry Christmas or Happy New Year.

The word carol actually means a dance of praise and joy. It may be that we no longer dance to any of the carols of Christmas yet they do indeed bring joy to the heart and happiness as we raise our voices in celebration of the season of peace and good will we call Christmas.

May you feel the joyous Christmas spirit of all the ages of celebration.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

PS Do you have a special way of celebrating? Write and tell me, I love it when readers share. Wishing you every joy at Christmas and Always.

Celebrating Yule: Embrace The Winter Solstice

The winter solstice has long been celebrated as the birth of the sun, of light, and of life itself. It is a time for introspection, contemplation and planning for the future.

Yule means “Yoke of the Year”, celebrated as the “seeding” time of the year, the longest night of the year, and the birth time of the new Sun King OR Son of God.

It is celebrated all over the world and in different cultures including the festival of Winter Solstice and the Christian festival of Christmas (US, Ireland, Britain, Europe), Yule (North Germanic, Scandinavians).

Yule or Yuletide (“Yule time”) was and is a festival observed by the historical Germanic peoples. Scholars have connected the celebration to the Wild Hunt, the god Odin, and the pagan Anglo-Saxon Mdraniht. It later underwent Christianize reformulation resulting in the term Christmastide.

Storytelling has combined The Norse God, Odin, Father Time, The Sun God, St. Nicholas and Santa Clause all into one entity as the wheel of time has progressed. Ancient stories of a god or king, saint or man delivering gifts to those who were good or contributed to their village life or family, were rewarded with a gift.

The king/Father/God archetype is depicted throughout history in the turn of the seasonal wheel, the manifesto of every religion, the tales of mythology and found in every cultural structure. This archetype is known for such key points including being the one everyone looks up to. He is grounded and centered and bestows blessings on the lives of others who follow him. This archetype is known to create and inspires creativity in others, while providing order, protection and decisive decisions. He is the one to most leave a legacy behind or blueprint for others to follow.

The 13th Celtic Moon (Nov 25 – Dec 23) (called “The Seeker”) The Elder Moon represents a time of endings. The winter solstice will pass and the Elder moon reminds us how we are at the end of a cycle, but, like the tree in winter, it recovers quickly and comes back to life in Spring. Corresponding to the approaching New Year. Called Ruish by the Celts (pronounced roo-esh), the month of Elder is a good time for workings related to introspection and renewal.

The Earth (element) represents traits of sensations, patience, stability, strength, health, grounding and centering of energies. This waning side of the Earth element is the earth in transition. It is a time of promoting peace, nurturing fertility, saving money, increasing your business success, and represents the traits of stability, warmth, comfort and physical labor.

Candles Ceremony. The winter solstice focuses on the return of light, joy and happiness. It is the celebration of the longest and darkest hours and the promise of more sunlight to come. It is also a very special time of reflection and introspection. It is then the time to banish or dispel the darkness, in order to make room for more light. We all have shadows to varying degrees. Our shadows come from our personal beliefs, taboos and cultural upbringings. We too, create our own shadows out of personal feeling based around our beliefs on death, birth, marriage, aging, youth and love.

Place 5 candles in a circle. On your paper, write down three “shadows” you wish to banish from your life. Now take the paper and touch it to the center candle flame to light the paper. Place the burning paper in a bowl to continue burning (and banishing) your shadows.

Make a Yule Wreath by winding grapevines around a large bottle or pot. Remove the vine wreath from the bottom of the vessel and then start to decorate it. Tuck the ends of the vines into each other. Have approximately 8-10 pine bow (branches with green needles and cones) and weave them or wire wrap them into your grapevine base. Position the bows outward so they show off the green.

Now startin filling the wreath in with beautiful pine cones, red holly berries or even red cherries. Use twigs with leaves on them and charms representing the season!

The circular shape or the wreath represents eternity, for it has no beginning and no end. From a christian religious perspective, it represents an unending circle of life. The evergreen, most frequently used in making wreathes, symbolizes growth and everlasting life.

Yule Blessing

“O darkest night of Yule’s light,
I come to honor in circle, bright
With light of new beginnings grow,
With sunlight during winter’s snow
With spring and summer passing by
Til fall and winter time, anigh
I banish shadow to the flame,
To rid me of my dark distain
To grow as sunlight does each day,
And cast-way shadow, dark and grey”

Top 10 Crystals for Winter

(Excerpt from Lead Us To A Place ~ your spiritual journey through life’s seasons)

Winter is the time for being introspective and meditative. Winter is our time to rest and replenish. Because winter is a time of less light and colder conditions, it can also be a difficult time for many people. Crystals can play a part in brightening our nights, improving our outlook and encouraging us to look within, peacefully.. Here are my top 10 choices for Winter.

Angelite: This stone is excellent at balancing, polarizing and aligning the physical body with the Aura or ethereal network. It is very calming and its shade of blue refreshes the eyes and spirit. This crystal helps us to be in touch with angels and animal guides, as well as assisting in distant communication with other humans. Most effective on the Throat Chakra, Angelite helps in self-expression, communication and allows us to speak our mind, helping us to become more assertive. Its soothing effects on the Throat Chakra works beautifully in calming and soothing anxiety or overactive children. Use this stone to call your Angels for guidance and support. Angelite is often used for psychic connection to oneness with the Universe, the angelic realm and for spiritual guidance.

Azurite: Referred to as the jewel of wisdom or Stone of Heaven, azurite symbolizes insight and discovery. It is said to increase psychic abilities. Azurite activates the Third Eye and Throat Chakra for more assertive communication and alertness. It is a great stone to assist in astral travel. This great balancer helps those who talk too much and allows for those who need to be expressive when they have a tendency to hold back. This opens our psychic intuition and gets us acquainted with our inner selves. It is a stone that stimulates creativity, giving access to a fountain of ideas, images and awareness of things around us.. This is a wonderful stone for decisiveness and decision making.

Black Onyx: This stone was used to promote fidelity. Excellent for centering/aligning the total person with higher powers. Use by Indian tribes to banish grief, enhance self-control, make wise decisions, encourage happiness and find good fortune. Onyx will retain memory of the physical occurrences surrounding a person. A strong stone to use in psychometry because it tells the story of the wearer. A strength-giving stone. Onyx is for those who are flighty by nature.. A strengthening stone that can help you approach a lesson or task with greater self-confidence.

Blue Chalcedony: A type of Quartz that heads a family which includes Agate, Carnelian, Jasper, Tiger’s Eye, and Onyx. Chelcedony helps ease self-doubts and makes one more reflective. It is used to eases bad dreams. Cleansing in nature, this stone will promote healing. Blue is used to open the Throat Chakra and helps with communication and self-expression.

Citrine: This stone is very versatile and is used for mental and emotional clarity, problem solving, memory issues, will power, optimism, confidence and self-discipline. It reduces anxiety, fear and depression. Citrine energizes every aspect of life. They can guide you to harness and utilize your creative energy. Citrine helps us analyze events and steer us in a positive direction. They work to develop inner calm and security and makes us less sensitive and more open to constructive criticism. It can dispel negative feelings and helps us to accept the flow of events.

Petalite: also known as Castorite, is highly spiritual. It has been called the “Stone of the Angels” (not to be confused with Angelite) and will help one connect with one’s guides and enhances your angelic connection. It is also said to dissolve negativity. Petalite has been used on vision quests for strength, protection, and peace. It will balance one’s yin/yang qualities, as well as one’s mind, body, and spirit. It also enhances one’s ability to feel energy in stones. Known as an aura calmer, this stone works on the Throat, Third Eye and Crown Chakra in particular.

Quartz: Quartz is the Master Healer and the “stone of power”! This crystal has the appearance of frozen water and clear quartz appears to look like ice! The natural tendency for quartz is for harmony. Quartz can both draw and send energy therefore it is effective for sending/receiving guidance. Quartz is used for transformation in healing and in all levels of change (mentally/emotionally, physically and spiritually). Quartz stimulates the natural crystal in body tissues and fluids to resonate at the highest healing frequency. Quartz works with All Chakra and master glands for balancing, cleansing and healing. It is the perfect stone for complete Aura balancing.

Selenite: This crystal is Gypsum. This white/clear striated crystal can look like snowy mountains or tumbled snowballs! Selenite is wonderful for mental focus, growth, luck, immunity, kundalini. These are centuries-old recordkeepers of events and information. Holding this crystal can help with visualizing and bringing white light/energy (higher ideas/consciousness) from a transpersonal point above your head down through body, out through feet into the earth/physical plane. May help physical and emotional letting go. This crystal is great for emotional and athletic flexibility. It helps to send healing to the earth, expands your sensitivity and field of awareness.

Snowflake Obsidian: This obsidian stone, which has inclusions of phynocryst, gives it a snowflake pattern on its surface. This stone allows us to recognize unnecessary patterns in our lives. Promotes self-esteem and confidence. This is a strong grounding stone and is known as “the protector”. It is said to “mirror one’s soul. This stone brings about objectivity and detachment. It reduces fantasy and escapism. Absorbs and dissolves anger, criticism, fear, and therefore is protective. This unusual black stone absorbs darkness and converts it to white light energy, which is used at the Root Chakra, encouraging one’s survival instincts and is grounding. This stone is used for transformation.
Snow River Quartz: This amazing quartz crystal is used for seeing into the future and discovering our congenital past. These clear quartz balls are amazing in their clarity on the inside and covered with a beautiful white frost on the outside. The ends are sliced off so that you can see into its deep translucent center. These “picture window” crystals are originally from the riverbeds of Brazil. The crystals are washed down out of the mountains and tumbled over and over by violent surging waters. This natural process gives the crystals their frosted look. They are the “gazing” stone, also called “seer quartz”. These stone evoke clarity, clear thinking and renowned insight.

A Tree Called Twinkles

The forest of evergreen trees grew on the side of the mountain. Some were so tall they could look over the heads of the other trees and see far beyond the borders of the forest. Others, like Twinkles, were smaller by far. Growing in the shade of the taller trees, Twinkles was not very tall at all. At about twelve inches tall, he was probably the youngest tree in the forest.

Twinkles was a baby fir tree. He had very small delicate green buds on his branches. They were so small that you could hardly see them even if you looked very hard. Though some of the trees around him were indeed very tall, there were others that were not, and it was these that Twinkles envied. It would be nice, he thought to himself not to feel so small and insignificant. Though he might not expect to grow as tall as those who could see above the forest, at least he might be as tall as those around him.

Twinkles thought that if he were at least a little bigger, then maybe some of the trees around him might pay him some attention and be a little nicer and share. He felt rather lonely, because when they didn’t ignore him, they treated him badly. Sadly for him they would look down on him and snicker and say hurtful things, sneering about his small trunk and spindly branches. It made him feel so sad, yet he didn’t know what to do.

I suppose if I was supposed to be any bigger than I am then I would be, Twinkles told himself in a brave voice. Just because I’m not as tall and big and bushy as they are doesn’t mean that I’m not as good as they are in other ways. Try as he could he couldn’t exactly come up with those other ways, but he knew they were there and that one day he’d get them figured out. After all, he would tell himself, we’re all made the same and it’s just that their branches are bigger than mine. Maybe I just need to grow more.

One day there was a great rumbling and commotion. Twinkles knew that something was coming up the mountain.

But he was too small to see what it was. And as luck might have it whoever they were couldn’t see Twinkles either. Men came and walked among the trees tying orange strips to many of them.

One of the trees preened himself. “Look at these beautiful orange strips we now wear,” one of the trees said. “And of course those with the orange strips should be looked to with envy and appreciation by those less fortunate.” One of his branches swiped Twinkles’ trunk hard enough to make him bend over.
Then all the trees with orange strips flapped their branches and sang songs dating back to the early festivals of the trees.

That night it began to snow. As the frosty flakes descended, the orange strips glowed even brighter and the trees around Twinkles flourished their branches, shaking their snow all over Twinkles and those other, smaller trees they considered to be less fortunate.

One day the thunderous rumble was heard again, but this time there was machinery to go with the large convoy of trucks. They parked near the trees and Twinkles didn’t like the look of the machinery they carried. He could see the trucks had letters on them:

Though he could not read the words, they said “Christmas Trees”

Still Twinkles had a sad feeling. He could sense what was about to happen. Even though they had been so mean to him Twinkles tried to cry out to the other trees, “Oh, I am so sorry.”

Then Twinkles heard the terrible sound of chainsaws and someone called out, “just the ones with the orange bands.” What had once been happy singing suddenly changed to cries of desperation and panic. The trees around him tried to crouch away from the painful electric saws but to no avail.

“Leave us alone,” Twinkles tried to cry. “Don’t you know how valuable trees are to the good health of the planet?”

The men finished their work and loaded the fallen trees on their trucks. Once they had driven away there was an amazing stillness all around him. Twinkles had never been so alone. He was one of few smaller trees left standing.

“Look,” came the slight chirp of a bird. “Here’s one; how lucky we are, we can sleep warm in the shelter of the little branches.

“Yes,” agreed her mate. “And we can have a safe place to one day make our nest.” And as the snow fell and the wind howled Twinkles could only smile and feel the warmth of the love of the little bird family nestled into in his fir branches.
From far above him he heard a sighing sound. It was one of the tallest trees. These had been spared as being too tall. “Oh little tree because the trees around you have been taken away now you will grow to be big like us. One day you will have many birds in your branches, as we do. Grow well, little brother, grow well.”

“I fear our world has totally changed, Twinkles said to the small holly bush growing beside him.
The bush sneezed. “I’m not as tall as you so you can see way off.”
“You are very lucky,” Twinkles said. “Because of just what you are you can always keep your leaves and be aware of the ground.”
But the bush didn’t seem to agree. “You think it’s such a big deal to smell everything all at once all the time? That’s the plight of every bush I’ve ever known.” Bush sneezed out his words
In the distance Twinkles saw a light he hadn’t noticed or recognized before.
“A distant light,” he told the bush.
“Maybe not distant for all that long,” the bush said. “Light does move quickly after all.”
“And when it does it usually gets bigger and brighter,” Twinkles added.

“It’s the nature of light to do exactly that.” He hoped that the light wasn’t coming from that awfully big truck that took away all of the tall trees and caused everything in the forest to change. But the light didn’t move and he realized that it was a star shining down on them both.
The wind increased and Twinkles felt the warm air blow through his branches. But the bush shivered. “You cold?” Twinkles asked the bush?
“I’m always cold,” said the bush. “From where I am, it’s all shade one way or the other.”
“I guess that’s true being so close to the ground,” Twinkles said.
Then Twinkles saw two young crows flying above his branches. They seemed to be looking for a place to land.
They saw Twinkles and landed atop his tallest branches.
“Well,” one said, “that wasn’t too bad.”
The other young crow stuck out its beak. “How can you say that, almost all was lost. I feared we wouldn’t find a place to land at all.”
“But isn’t that the way it always is? If it’s not one thing or the other then there’s something else that’s different to contend with. Isn’t that how life always happens?”
The other crow looked confused. “You spent too long at the aviary. I grew up on the side of a mountain.”
“Big difference, but at the aviary I got myself an education. Learned how to do a lot birds haven’t figured out yet.”
“But isn’t that how it always is?” The other bird replied. “Things seem to happen again and again no matter what’s trying to stop them from happening.”
“Oh no,” said Twinkles. “That would be terrible.”
“But isn’t that how life happens?” The larger of the two crows sounded impatient. “That’s the only way things happen. Isn’t it?”
Darkness descended and small soft lights lit up the hillside.
Twinkles felt a sense of expectation. He knew something was either coming or going. But he wasn’t sure which.
“But that’s the way. Everything starts and ends and starts again,” Twinkles said.
“Who knows?” The bush said. “For really good answers to difficult questions best to ask the fireflies. I remember when I was just a shrub hearing, ‘always ask the fireflies.'”
“They are very magical,” one crow said.
“They can make things happen, that’s for sure,” the other crow said.
“Like what?” Twinkles asked
“Like getting you off this lonely hillside and instead putting you in a flower garden.”
Without knowing what a flower garden was Twinkles thought it might prove to be a step up. “How,” he asked the crows?
“Firefly magic,” they said in unison.
The larger crow began to caw and soon a swirl of fireflies encircled Twinkles and bush. Twinkles began to feel his roots lift out of the soil until he was lifted from where he was into the air by the whirling fiery lights glowing in the sky. Moments later he felt himself being set gently into the ground amidst a variety of colors, shapes and scents.
“Oh,” he said, the scent of flowers enrapturing his branches. “This is wonderful.”
“Sure is,” bush said. “And the ground is soft instead of hard with pieces of rock.” Growing so close to Twinkles, bush had been lifted along with him.
“But why are we here?” Twinkles asked the crows.
“To provide shade and enhance the oxygen,” they said. “Once you’re settled and the fireflies have had a rest we’ll find a few other trees. After all trees are beneficial to a garden,” they cawed.
Bush rustled his leaves. “I guess just because something is a certain way doesn’t mean it always has to be that way. There can be change in the world.”
“Oh yes,” Twinkles agreed. “That’s the way of the world, isn’t it?”
Several rosebushes peered curiously at bush and Twinkles. “What are you anyway? Why are you in our garden?”
“Yes, tell us why?” Others said.
“I’m Twinkles and I’m a tree,” Twinkles said. “I’ll give you pleasant shade and fan you with the cooling breezes. And that’s my pal holly bush; we grew up together on the big almost bare hillside. We’re here to join you and be part of the garden.”
The rosebushes humphed. “If you say so,” one said. “But we’re very content with things just the way they are.”
“You’ll see,” the crows said. “Everything is for the highest good.”
“”We’ll petition Mother Nature,” a stiff gladiola said.”
“Yes,” agreed several formal carnations.
“Next thing you know they’ll let in skunk cabbages and then invasive ivy, and there goes the garden,” moaned several large pink roses.”
“Oh dear,” Twinkles, said. “I guess all I can say is soon enough you’ll be glad we’re here to help out. Don’t you ever want any shade?”
Before they could say anything more another swirl of fireflies swept into the garden and several small trees Twinkles knew from his days on his ill-fated hillside landed abruptly, quickly taking root. Then a wind blew over them all and their branches swayed, swirling the sweet scents of the flowers and creating even more joyous scents.
For the first time in longer than he could ever imagine Twinkles felt at peace, surrounded by other young trees amidst flowers of all size and shape.
“Guess we’ve come home,” bush said. “Sure feels good I must say.”
Twinkles felt his branches swaying in the wind,
“Sure does,” he said. “Sure does.”

Existing In Bodies
By Madisyn Taylor

We inhabit bodies for a reason – experiencing all the range of feelings and emotions that come with being present in a body.

The physical self can seem like an encumbrance at times. We have little control over its demands, we must monitor it consistently, and its relative fragility can be discomfiting. Many people, therefore, unconsciously long to escape the confinement of their bodies, and this longing can manifest itself as physical discomfort, difficulty adjusting to the rigors of day-to-day existence, or a tendency to shy away from all that is associated with the human earthly experience. Yet the lifetime of physical existence we each must endure represents a vital plateau in our progression as enlightened beings. We inhabit our bodies for a reason. There is much we can learn while coping with the challenges, sensations, and sensitivities of the human body that we could not have grasped had we remained in spirit form. When we leave our physical selves behind to return to our original state, we will enjoy a supreme sense of freedom – yet we will always value the time we spent on earth.

Being wholly present in your body can help you better understand how your time as a physical being is contributing to your development. There may be times when you feel that your consciousness is not grounded in your corporeal form. Your thoughts may seem scattered or spacey, or you may sense that your ethereal self is literally floating away. When this occurs, ask Mother Earth to ground you, or draw upon the potent grounding energy of mountains or trees. These powerful natural forces can help you reconnect with the earth by reminding you that living in a physical state can be a wholesome and enlightening experience. Wearing gemstones with grounding properties, bloodstone, for example, is another way to reaffirm your connection to the earthly plane.

Human beings are tied to the earth, but not wholly of the earth. We are each of us, for the time being, poised between the soil underneath our feet and the never-ending ethereal spaces around us. The unease we occasionally feel in our earthly bodies is merely a by-product of our innate understanding of our dual natures. But the time we spend in our physical bodies will not last and should thus be cherished. For one day, when our evolution is complete, we will return to the source of life to become beings of light once more.

Self-Care for the Holidays

Our culture thrives on being busy, applauding those who are the busiest and don’t slow down for anything or anyone — especially themselves. It has taken years for me to learn to allow myself to take time to care for and love myself. I want my kids, friends, family, colleagues to know a different way, and to feel fully supported in their needs to maintain daily balance. For instance, to regroup after a long day at school, my son needs time outside, while my daughter needs to draw or read. I encourage them both to take the time they each need for those activities each day.

The most effective way to teach is to lead by example. Below are self-care and self-love tips for you, your family members, and friends to implement during this holiday season and into the New Year.

  1. Affirmations. The Zendoway “I Love Me Affirmations” cube has prompts that ask you to write down why you love yourself, to create a love dance or song, to repeat “I love me” 10 times, and other similar activities. The self-love affirmation is a powerful tool as we all need that daily reminder that we are awesome, no matter what. Using the cubes at the dinner table is an interactive way to spark new conversations and learn about each other. The first time I gave my daughter this cube to roll at the dinner table, she said, “I don’t love anything about myself.” I was baffled, since she shows a consistent front of self-confidence and happiness. With further conversation, I was able to figure out that she just had a bad day and was temporarily feeling down on herself, which we can all relate to. I was so grateful that the cube facilitated that conversation, so I could support her! What do you love about yourself?
  2. Do something you love daily. Ask yourself, “what brings me joy?” We get so caught up in the day to day of being tugged in so many different directions, it can come to the end of the day and we have forgotten all about our own needs. Let’s give ourselves love, attention, that one special treat that will make us smile, and brings us ultimate joy. What brings you joy?
  3. Spend time alone. We all require downtime to process our busy lives. Mindful time alone allows us to decompress, tap into our creative nature, solve a problem, and discover what to say to nurture our family or team members. Time alone can be in meditation, a walk, a run, or even driving in our cars. I love to have the first hour when I wake up to myself to spend in various ways; if I don’t take that time, I find I feel all out of sorts. How do you spend your alone time?
  4. Nurture your body. Eat healthy food, use organic lotion/oils on your skin, and practice self-massage. An easy self-practice I do each night is to massage sesame (warming) or coconut (cooling) oil on my feet before I go to bed. It not only keeps my feet well moisturized, it promotes sound sleep and is an effective way to give back to my body at the end of each day. How do you nurture your body?
  5. Check in with your feelings. Many times, we think we should feel or act a certain way. When was the last time you checked in with how you were truly feeling? When I started this “check-in” practice daily, I was amazed at my own personal insights throughout each day. When you are feeling stressed, check in with yourself. How are you really feeling right now?
  6. Gauge your mental chatter. What is going on in our minds can be mind-boggling. My meditation teacher Rolf Gates taught me how to release these thoughts by putting them into an imaginary boat, giving it a label, and letting it go. Do you have a boat that is full of to-do items or filled with worry? Either way, it is okay; just label it, and set it off to sea. What is your mental chatter?

Remember, small daily doses of self-care will keep us mentally, physically, and emotionally sound. Once you determine which self-care rituals/routines work best you will notice that your mindful practice will become contagious and you will want to do more for yourself. We all have a desire to be cared for and we are the only ones that truly know what feels good to us each day.

The daily commitment to self-care is what will set us apart from others – help us have more energy in all facets of our daily life. We deserve the best!

Weekly Horoscopes beginning: Sunday, 23 December 2018

If you`re born within cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you`re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You`re in the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.

Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible detail of everyday and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don`t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.

Aries

Personal theme: I am!!

Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19

Your horoscope for today:

It`s challenging to keep the faith as Mercury in your house of higher consciousness clashes with murky Neptune. Under this influence, you might feel that spiritual teachings fail to provide the solace you need in these uncertain times. Don`t lose heart, Aries. This is merely a blip on your spiritual radar that is testing the strength of your beliefs. Be wary of teachers or mentors whose words don`t ring true for you. It`s always good to ask questions and request that your doubts be addressed.

The festive season is upon us but you`re having difficulty getting into the Christmas spirit. A nagging relative is wearing on your nerves. Rather than grinning and bearing their bad behaviour, find an outlet for your frustration. Writing in your diary is therapeutic. You can be honest without making a bad situation worse. The more passionately you express yourself, the more humorous the whole situation will become. Soon, you`ll be laughing at this family member`s ridiculous antics, paving the way for a wonderful celebration.

This could be another of those days when you need to make a fashion statement. You might also find you attract unusual attention from Aquarians and Pisceans. The power of music could be felt too. However, nothing may be more important than viewing the world from a different perspective. Being near water could activate memory and imagination and release powerful creative urges.

Taurus

Personal theme: I have!!

Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20

Your horoscope for today:

It`s not cool to tell tales out of school. With chatty Mercury in your house of secrets squaring sketchy Neptune, spilling confidential info could start a nasty rumour. You might think that sharing with a friend is safe, but not everyone can be trusted to zip their lips. If someone shares secret information with you, you should keep it to yourself instead of passing it on to others. Whether true or false, someone could get hurt when private info goes public.

Don`t let disappointing news spoil Christmas. There is still lots to anticipate. The prospect of having a delicious meal with your nearest and dearest keeps your spirits high. By focusing on all the fun times ahead, you`ll overcome this minor obstacle. If you`re overwhelmed with chores, ask an efficient friend for help. Play festive music while you work. Tidying up, preparing food and making decorations will seem more like play than work. It`s simply a matter of making a game out of everything you do.

Quirky neighbours or a distinctive accent could capture your attention. Sure, there could be misunderstandings and irritation: it`s as likely that there`ll be moments of great humour (except if cars or parking are involved). On the down-side, it`s possible that a leak could sabotage a trip – or that someone`s drinking habits will affect a schedule.

Gemini

Personal theme: I think!!

Air sign: May 21 — June 20

Your horoscope for today:

A convoy with your significant other or an important collaborator could make you question your future together. With expressive Mercury in your partnership zone squaring sketchy Neptune, there may be confusion or doubt regarding whether you`re on the same path. It`s good to get things out into the open, although it isn`t likely that you`ll clarify the matter now. In fact, the more you talk about it, the hazier things become. Leave it alone and don`t make any decisions based on what is communicated between you today.

Yule is a time of celebration. Rather than dwelling on mundane matters like money, you should count your blessings. When you remember how prosperous you truly are, you`ll be graced with more money. By the time the New Year arrives, you`ll pay the bills easily. Take this opportunity to showcase your creative abilities. Homemade decorations will be fun to make, as well as greatly appreciated. Nothing will chase away your cares like getting immersed in a Christmas project.

Don`t underestimate your imagination and flair. You could come up with a fabulous design concept – or be the one who recognises a winner. The Internet may be unusually significant. It`s possible too that someone who`s usually so good with cash and organisation feels lost and confused and needs you to help them out of a situation where they`re all `steamed up`.

Cancer

Personal theme: I feel!!

Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22

Your horoscope for today:

Your way may not be the right way, especially if it involves performing a task that involves intricate parts or complex directions. With skilful Mercury in your methodical sixth house clashing with sketchy Neptune, you could find yourself out of your depth. If you`re driving to an unfamiliar destination, pack an old-school map just in case your GPS fails to get you where you need to go. A lack of direction, in matters great and small, could cause problems so be sure to have a Plan B.

You want to wish everyone a joyous Noel, but you`re too busy brooding about a tense relationship. Stop giving away your power to a selfish friend, relative or romantic partner. Focus on having a good time instead. Don`t let anyone spoil your Christmas. Giving yourself an early gift is strongly advised. This is a great time to book a holiday, as you`ll find some marvellous discounts on plane tickets and hotel rooms. Visiting a beautiful seaside resort will make you excited about the New Year.

Someone with whom you`re doing `business` could really appreciate your straight-talking and the clarity you bring to a project. They might not know that you too are actually quite confused: the future might not be a place you want to habit just yet. Being near water, swimming or even gazing at fishes swimming in a bowl could help. In this setting you might also come up with a design plan.

Leo

Personal theme: I will!!

Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22

Your horoscope for today:

Flirtation isn`t what it seems thanks to a messy Mercury/Neptune clash mucking things up in your romance zones. Under this influence, it can be tempting to make false promises or say things that lead someone astray in order to get attention. If an admirer is flattering you, you should take it with a grain of salt. It might be exactly what you want to hear, although a closer listen could reveal that his or her words don`t quite ring true. Life is too short to fall for lies.

You`ve been so busy you`ve lost sight that Christmas is here. Change gears as quickly as possible. Stop fielding messages from work. It`s time your boss understood that you have a personal life. Your colleagues will greatly appreciate your brave stance. Sneaking off to a private hideaway with your amour will lift your spirits. A passionate encounter will make you ready for the festive season. Are you single? Let a relative set you up on a blind date.

You may well have mediumistic or healing abilities. A situation could arise where someone needs help and you`re there at the `right` moment. Though you might not understand what`s happening (unusual energies could flow through you), you could affect extraordinary magic. All this could leave you disorientated. Don`t be surprised if you mislay something or end up somewhere you never consciously intended.

Virgo

Personal theme: I analyse!!

Earth sign: August 23 — September 22

Your horoscope for today:

Is it a lie or merely a miscommunication? With expressive Mercury clashing with sketchy Neptune, you may wonder whether a loved one is telling you the real deal or if something has been lost in translation? If something doesn`t sound quite right to you, trust your instincts. However, you shouldn`t jump to the worst possible conclusion until you have all the facts. The truth may not reveal itself today so there`s no point in pressing the issue. Give it a day or two and then revisit the conversation.

The arrival of Yule has been draining. Shopping, parties and meal preparation makes you yearn for privacy. Instead of pressuring yourself to attend yet another get-together, give yourself the gift of rest. Soaking in a scented bath will restore your spirits. A supportive relative will be happy to perform errands on your behalf. They`ve been worried about you. Don`t feel guilty about accepting their generous offer of assistance. The festive season has different challenges for each of us.

You could be rocked by news from someone you regard as family (even if they aren`t) and wonder again why you didn`t pick up on signals. Domestic arrangements could demand extra attention too: it may be that you have a literal or a financial leak that requires action. It`s possible too that someone creative is now buzzing around and filling you head with `what could be`.

Libra

Personal theme: I balance!!

Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22

Your horoscope for today:

It might not be your intention to tell a lie, but you should be careful that your words don`t lead someone astray. This could be especially disastrous if it involves a scenario playing out in your workplace. With knowledgeable Mercury in your communication zone clashing with sketchy Neptune, false information can create problems for yourself as well as for others. Check your sources and verify your data before passing the info on. Even if it`s an honest mistake there could still be consequences, so be careful.

You`re in great demand this Noel. Rather than accepting every invitation, be selective about the events you attend. Go to a festive party that is sure to have great food, interesting guests and upbeat music.. This will be an ideal occasion to debut an outfit. A stern relative will disapprove of your carefree attitude. Turn a deaf ear to their complaints. Your only job is to have a marvellous time this Christmas. An upbeat mood paves the way for a joyous season.

Technicalities could confuse you. At a different level you may need to be with people who think so far out of the box it`s almost unbelievable. In short, you could be `lost in space`. In this place though you could fantasise a different world and adjust your usual routine that are therapeutic: in particular you could make contact – and spend time with someone who`s known for their healing abilities.

Scorpio & Ophiuchus

Personal theme: I desire!!

Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21

Your horoscope for today:

Conversations and negotiations around money should be handled with care. With clever Mercury in your house of money clashing with sketchy Neptune, someone (maybe you) could make a promise that they couldn`t possibly make good on. It could be an honest mistake or a clear case of deception. The bottom line is that if something sounds too good to be true, you should be sceptical. You aren`t likely to get your money`s worth with this dodgy influence in play, so important purchases should be postponed.

Discussing contentious subjects like politics, religion and culture can spoil Christmas. Vow to focus on the things you share with family, like happy memories and sacred traditions. If you`re estranged from family, throw a party for friends, neighbours and colleagues. You`ll have a wonderful time surrounded by people who make you laugh at your troubles. It doesn`t matter if Yule is observed traditionally or whimsically; this is an occasion for joy. A passionate kiss with an admirer could take place beneath the mistletoe.

You may be sending out confusing signals: which could be wonderful if you`re trying to weave a spell but might not be quite so good if you`re trying to arrive at a business arrangement. Your senses could be altering – possibly causing you to pick up on new vibes, scents and tastes. The artist in you is likely to experience a monsoon of creative ideas.

Sagittarius

Personal theme: I see!!

Fire sign: November 22 — December 21

Your horoscope for today:

Everyone grows up with things they believe that aren`t necessarily true. With chatty Mercury in your sign clashing with sketchy Neptune in your ancestral realm, you`ll need to be careful that spouting family folklore doesn`t paint you as the village idiot. Some of your anecdotes sound really clever, although they aren`t likely to hold up as statements of fact. Similarly, you should take a family member or roommate`s words with a grain of salt. Whether it`s outright deception or innocent confusion, the truth may be distorted.

You`ve spread yourself quite thin for Yule. Instead of insisting on meeting all these commitments, cancel some appointments. You`ll be much happier spending time at home than braving traffic. A simple family get together will be surprisingly fun; sing carols with your nearest and dearest. If you`re worried about bills, take heart. A moneymaking opportunity will fall into your lap when you least expect it. Until then, stay focused on all the wonderful gifts the past year has brought.

Disruption in personal space could be a by-product of travelling. It`s as likely that there`s a degree of chaos going on in your thinking – possibly because you`ve been presented with a puzzle that`s not supposed to be solved quickly. In a place of great peace (where once there may have been sadness) your imagination could go into over-drive.

Capricorn

Personal theme: I use!!

Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19

Your horoscope for today:

Worrying thoughts can be troubling as well as distracting. The good news is that you don`t have to believe everything you think. With Mercury squaring murky Neptune in your mental third house, your inner dialogue tends to focus on worst-case scenarios rather than looking on the bright side. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you could get caught up in a fantasy as a means to avoid an uncomfortable truth. How is a level-headed goat supposed to cope with so much confusion?

It`s difficult to get into the Christmas spirit when a loved one isn`t feeling well. The best thing you can do for an ailing relative is to distract them with games, music and entertaining stories. Your upbeat attitude will be infectious. Teaching children how to make Yuletide treats is strongly advised. It`s lovely to pass along these traditions. Memories of these cooking sessions will be cherished for years to come. Take lots of photos and play festive music while you work.

Someone`s apparent disorientation and unwillingness to accept facts could test your language skills. Explaining why things have to be done in a particular way and letting this person down gently could lead you to using phrases you`ve `borrowed`. The other side of your brain is likely to be busy on a finding a scientific or mechanical resolution to a conundrum.

Aquarius

Personal theme: I know!!

Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18

Your horoscope for today:

You and a friend may have a lot in common. However, it doesn`t mean that you share the same values, especially when it comes to money. A messy Mercury/Neptune clash affecting your friendship and money zones could put one of you on the end of a bad deal. Honesty is the best policy even if telling the truth makes for an uncomfortable situation. Otherwise, you could have problems with money or possessions. If you neither lend nor borrow, you can fend off trouble before it gets started.

The festive season has kept you busy. At long last, you have a chance to slow down and enjoy the magic of Christmas. Give yourself a break from a strict diet and enjoy some of your favourite treats. Let errands wait for another time. If you haven`t been able to find a gift for a relative, make one. Nothing is more meaningful than something you have made or created yourself. These are the things that carry real value even if they don`t cost much. Let your imagination run wild.

Playing with cash as though it were `play-doh` might prove an entertaining way or stretching and manipulating resources. Your fashion sense could be affected by an over-worked imagination too. For reasons you can`t explain, your telepathic skills could surface: causing you to wonder the exact nature of a relationship.

Pisces

Personal theme: I believe!!

Water sign: February 19 — March 20

Your horoscope for today:

People are heeding your words, so this isn`t the time for one of your legendary tall tales. With messenger Mercury in your public tenth house clashing with sketchy Neptune in your sign, you could earn yourself a bad reputation if you say the wrong thing. Are you purposely trying to create confusion? Or are you just too lazy to get your facts straight? No one can blame you if you make an honest mistake. Only you know whether you`re acting with true integrity or deliberately out to deceive.

Current events can interfere with your enjoyment of Christmas. Give yourself a break from the news. Do not discuss politics and current events for the next few days. By focusing on your many blessings, they will multiply. That`s how the festive season works. Be assertive when it comes to proposing games. At first, stuffy relatives will resist your efforts to bring everyone together in a spirit of fun. Use your charm to wear down their resolve. Soon, everyone will be laughing and joking.

True, you may have fingers in too many pies: it`s as likely that you don`t know where to start and that you`re exploring options. Of course, you`re likely to confuse some people, it`s probable though that you`ll also inspire some to look at situations (and designs) from a different angle. Your marketing skills could surface.
