Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Biddy Tarot Card of the Week – Death

We’re entering a time of significant change and transformation. As we prepare to enter into a new year, it’s time to clear away the old and bring in the new.

Death and clearing away can open the door to new and rewarding experiences. If you have any unhealthy attachments or ways that you have outgrown, its time to let them go and pave the way for a more fulfilled life.

This is the perfect time to break a bad habit and set some new goals for yourself for the coming year. Purge the old belongings, memories, and baggage that are getting in the way of you manifesting your best life.

Ask the Tarot: What do I need to let go of so I can have my best year yet?

Llewellyn’s Spell a Day
Stringing Up Abundance
December 29, 2019 by Elizabeth Barrette

People most often think of making decorative strings for Yule or Christmas, but afterward these strings take on a different tone. Now is a good time to make decorations for your upcoming New Year festivities. Don’t leave it until the last minute, because these take time.

This spell simply involves concentrating on prosperity while you string up symbols of abundance.

Popcorn is traditional, as corn is a very fecund grain. Also, after you’re done hanging it around your house, you can move it outside for wildlife to enjoy.

Nuts serve a similar purpose. Peanuts may be sewn through the shell. Most other nuts must be glued on or knotted into a net.

Coins are ideal for representing prosperity. You can string gold plastic coins, but real pennies work better. Glue them in a sandwich around monofilament line. You can do the same with tiny mirrors to vary the display.

You’re a Superhero!
December 28, 2019 by Blake Octavian Blair

Today is the birthday of Stan Lee, comic book writer, editor, and publisher extraordinaire! Stan has brought us many beloved superheroes. While comic book heroes inspire us, it’s important to remember that we too can be inspiring with the gifts we have to offer the world.

Today, light a white, gold, or yellow candle in a holder upon your altar. Think about all the ways in which you use your gifts and abilities to help others. Write them down in a list on a small piece of paper. Then fold the list and place it under the holder as the candle burns down. While looking at the candle, visualize melding with the power of its light as you begin to glow with power. Visualize yourself glowing radiantly with your own power, the power you use to do good in the world with your gifts. When the candle burns out, you can carry the list as a reminder when needed.

Do We Have to Be Serious All the Time?
December 27, 2019 by Barbara Ardinger

Back in the Middle Ages at the tail end of the year, the Feast of Fools (with temporary reversals of status) was celebrated. What can we do today? Our magic doesn’t always have to be Highly Serious.

First, go to a toy store and buy some wind-up toys—witches, frogs, little airplanes, anything that moves. Cast your circle and skew the altar a bit so the sylphs, undines, salamanders, and gnomes get some new scenery. Set toys or Muppets in the four directions:

Air: Sam the Eagle
Fire: Animal
Water: Kermit the Frog
Earth: Miss Piggy

In the center, place a toy Christmas tree decorated with pastel Cheerios (the year goes round and round).

Instead of the usual invocations, sing old folk songs or disco songs.

Don’t light candles. That’s too dangerous when you wind up all the toys and set them loose on the altar.

Boxing Day: Know Your Human Rights
December 26, 2019 by Estha McNevin

The British Victorian tradition of the Christmas box is one of the first ways that aristocratic employers gave workers a holiday bonus, ensuring them a livable wage. As automation alters our labor model, the basic living wage is an increasingly popular subject on Boxing Day. What is our own evolution of rudimentary human rights? Are we living on outdated and unhealthy commodities? Take stock of our shared birthright to the earth’s sustainable resources.

Our allotment of food, shelter, medicine, and goods—if assured— is only for right now; our very next moment brings with it constant change. Gather with family to discuss ways to positively impact those places in the community where environmental, labor, or civil rights are under threat; the struggle may be closer to home than you think.

Finally, work together to craft a care package and gift it to someone who has worked tirelessly and is in need of sustainability on this day of reflection and gratitude.

Holly and Ivy Spell for Unity
December 25, 2019 by Ember Grant

Use the traditional holly and ivy plants for a spell to unite a partnership or friendship, or even to strengthen the bonds of family. Tie together a sprig of holly and ivy with a red ribbon. These plants have long been used in folklore for the winter holidays, so they should be easy to find. Holly is considered to have masculine energy and is associated with fire; ivy has feminine energy and is associated with water. Both have the qualities of protection and good fortune, and these two combined can represent balance and strength.

Speak these words as you place your holly and ivy bundle in a prominent place in your home:

Bring us balance and
endurance of the evergreen,
With unity that no misfortune
can ever come between.

The Sacred Pine
December 24, 2019 by James Kambos

The pine tree and all the evergreens are at the center of many holiday celebrations. They are sacred symbols of eternal life, strength, hope, and wisdom. Let this spell inspire you now during the holiday season and beyond. You’ll need some pine needles or a small pine branch, a heatproof container or a fireplace, and two pine cones. Place your pine needles or branch in the container or fireplace and light them. Hold the pine cones and pass them through the smoke. As you do this, say these

Words of Power:
Symbol of eternal life is
the mighty pine,
Standing tall and silent
since ancient times.
You who have seen the Ice Age
and the mountains rise,
Give me hope, give me strength,
and make me wise.

The pine cones are now charged with the magical properties that the pines possess. Use these pine cones as a magical tool for spells dealing with strength, endurance, hope, or wisdom. You’ve also empowered your spirit. Wait until New Year’s Day and scatter the pine ashes outside.

Banishing Money Problems in the New Year
December 23, 2019 by Devin Hunter

In just a few short days, 2019 will come to an end and soon we will all be gifted with another year of growth and abundance! Before we get there, though, there are likely a few energetic loose ends we should take care of, like making sure that any negative financial habits don’t follow us into the new year. Cast this spell to do just that, and set yourself up for a truly prosperous 2020!

Mix together equal parts copal, sage, and eucalyptus incense and burn over a charcoal. Fumigate your home with the smoke, and as you do so,
chant:

I am prosperity. I am wishes
fulfilled and needs met. I am the
crown of success! I banish all
debt and financial devastation! It
shall not pass into the new year!
It shall have no place in my life!

Seal the energy at the end by saying:

So mote it be!

Heartwings Love Notes 911 Take Your Time Please

Heartwings says, “When you take our time you can use it the way you wish.

The old year is often portrayed by an elderly man tottering about and the New Year is portrayed as a baby or young toddler. Father Time himself is seen as an older man with a long beard, carrying a scythe with a long handle. He uses it to cut through the past and reap it in order to help us make use of what has been learned or experienced as we move into the future. Toward that end, most people feel it is important to make New Year resolutions.

As the new year approaches many of us will be doing just that. Sadly, most resolutions will be broken and probably forgotten by the end of January if not sooner. I believe resolutions are best not made, because inevitably we choose not wisely but with wishful thinking. What we wish is often to be thinner, spend less, save more, exercise more, or take better care with whatever or whomever we cherish. Our resolutions are made with well meaning and not realistically, which is why we don’t or can’t keep them.

Most of our resolutions are for what we believe we ought to be doing-losing weight being the most common. Yes, often it is important to lose weight for our good health. Yet making a resolution to do so almost invalidates the effort. It implies that we are making a special effort, not that we are participating in normal behavior. Yet what is usually best is for us to be mindful of what and how much we eat on a daily basis, rather than make a heroic attempt that leaves us feeling hungry and deprived.

The New Year is a good time to look over the last twelve months, see how far we have come, and assess how far or not we may need to go. One of my husband Stephen’s favorite phrases is, “Take your time.” Perhaps that might be our best possible resolution: To take our time, to see what really needs doing and then use the time we have to accomplish the goal of that moment. When we can do that, we are better equipped to live effectively as well as to observe carefully how we are doing. As to resolutions in general, resolving to be kind, to be thoughtful, to be more mindful might be easier and more effective than giving in to our “oughts.”

Wishing you every joy in the new year and beyond.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert tashahal@aol.com

PS Did you make any New Yea resolutions? I love it when my readers share with me. Your emails make my day, and I promise to answer you even if not right away.

Fire Scrying
by Servant of Hestia

I’m not going to lie. Ever since we open the tea shop life has been crazy. As with any new venture, new businesses encompass every moment of your waking hours. We’ve been going on over a year now, and things have been going along and I have been been able to squirrel away a “consultation area” in a corner of my backroom for those who come to me in need of “support” (I’ll post a picture just as soon as the holiday season is over).
With the weather turning colder, I have taken the opportunity to build a fire or three in our small fireplace. How I miss having fireplaces specifically designed to warm a room. Texas fireplaces are mostly decorative and set to have, perhaps, a fake log or two burned for esthetics a few times out of the year.

Of course, I am prone to augury, and there are several methods I use: tea leaves, pendulum, cards, candles, signs in nature. But, above all, I love to fire scry.
As with any method of divination, you need to begin with a question. It’s best to not start with too many, as signs can be confused or misconstrued. Here are a few traditional correspondences that relate to fire scrying:

” Crackling or sparking: News is coming (often good)
” Soot falling down around the fire: A message will arrive soon. The pattern of the soot may provide further insight
” Sizzling: Anger or arguments are getting in the way of a positive resolution
” Blue flames: Spirits are influencing the situation, or spirit guides (ancestors) are trying to tell you something
” Tall flames: Good thoughts or wishes directed toward you or the situation in question
” Sudden blazing: A stranger or distant acquaintance is somehow involved in this question
” Smokey fire: Disagreement is the root of the problem, and it’s covering up the solution. Also consider psychic or magickal influences that are negative.
” Spitting fire: Someone in a leadership position (or considers themself in that role) is irate
” Flames moving to the right: Yes
” Flames moving to the left: No

Homemade Chocolate Cough Syrup
~Karyn Maier

Yet another reason to love chocolate (as if you needed one)! According to researchers at the University of Hull in Yorkshire, England, chocolate may be more effective at calming a nagging cough than cough syrup. At least that’s the effect they observed in the 163 patients that participated in their study.

This isn’t new news, actually. A small study conducted at the Imperial College London previously found that the enzyme theobromine in chocolate seems to be responsible for its demulcent effects. It seems that this enzyme inhibits activity of vagal nerves, which would otherwise trigger the cough response. Aside from the palate pleasing factor, a does of chocolate instead of cough syrup suggests possibilities for people who are alcohol intolerant or who operate heavy machinery or drive for a living. It also provides an alternative to certain drugs found in conventional cough syrups that can produce adverse side effects, such as dextromethorphan, diphenhydramine, and codeine.

It should be noted, though, that these studies were small and they involved the use of a chocolate-based medicine, not chocolate bars or hot cocoa that typically cannot adhere to the lining of the throat long enough to be of benefit. However, you can make a homemade cough syrup that provides a demulcent effect via honey and the benefit of cacao powder, which has the highest concentration of theobromine. The addition of cayenne may seem counterproductive but the spice provides capsaicin, which interrupts a pain neurotransmitter called substance P. The powdered root of maca, a member of the ginger family, provides immune-boosting nutrients (including 19 amino acids) and provides a pleasant malt-like taste. Finally, cinnamon offers not only antimicrobial and antiviral properties, but is also antispasmodic.

Homemade Chocolate Cough Syrup

1 cup raw honey
1/4 cup cacao powder
½ teaspoon maca root powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne

Pour the honey into a bowl and whisk in the other ingredients until well blended. Transfer to a clean glass jar with lid. Store at room temperature and use within 6-9 months. To use, enjoy 1 tablespoon (1 teaspoon for children under 12) as needed. Do not give to children under 1 year.

Immunity Soup

This recipe can be found in Dr. Weil’s cookbook, True Food: Seasonal, Sustainable, Simple, Pure.

This recipe is great for a cold weather meal for those of us that might need a little immune system boost.

The sliced, dried astragalus root in this soup is available online and in herb stores; it is nontoxic and adds a pleasant, sweet taste when simmered in soups. Shiitake mushrooms also boost immunity and have an antiviral effect. Garlic is an antibiotic and ginger a natural anti-inflammatory agent.

Food as Medicine
Modern research shows that astragalus root, a Chinese herb long used to ward off colds and flu, has powerful immune-enhancing properties.

Ingredients
1 1/2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, mashed
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
4 ounces shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and thinly sliced
2 large carrots, thinly sliced on the bias
2 1/2 pieces astragalus root (about 15 inches total)
10 cups Mushroom Stock
2 tablespoons tamari or low sodium soy sauce
Salt
2 cups broccoli florets
1/2 cup chopped scallions

Instructions
1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
2. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger and sauté until soft and translucent. Add the shiitakes, carrots, astragalus root and mushroom stock.
3. Bring to a low boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
4. Add the tamari and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed.

Turning Inward During Winter
By Madisyn Taylor

Winter allows us to feed the flame in our own centers by reading or researching to nourish our dreams and plans for the future.

In the depths of winter, we can forget that bare trees will once again be full with foliage, and grass and flowers hidden beneath a blanket of white or a deceptive covering of hardened earth will burst forth once again. While they slumber, nature is continuing its work at the center of each living thing. We can think of our blankets and warm clothes as similar protection–like the cocoon that surrounds a changing caterpillar–while we undergo our own inner transformational work. In the meantime, the lights that twinkle and the fires that warm us can serve to remind us of the flame of life that burns within us.

In order to stoke our inner flame, we can use the time indoors to focus our attention on our homes and families. We can become distracted by the world outside and forget that we need to nourish the lights that warm our hearts. Interacting at a soul level can be done by sharing stories from our hearts, doing projects together, dancing, or playing games. Devoting energy this way helps us build a stronger bond that will sustain us once the world allows us each to pursue our individual goals again.

Winter allows us to feed the flame in our own centers by reading or researching to nourish our dreams and plans for the future. This can mean catching up on all the quieter things we wanted to do but didn’t have time for, like reading books, watching movies, or listening to music. We may have set aside creative pursuits such as painting or writing that can be brought back to the center burner now. It is also a great time to do some journaling to look back on the year that has passed and perhaps the years before this one in preparation for forward motion in the coming year. Nature’s wisdom offers us opportunities to nourish our inner seeds of hope in preparation for our future, so let us enjoy the inner warmth and be grateful for it all.

Mixology from the Middle Ages: Modern Medieval Cocktails

If you enjoy mulled cider, wine or “liquid bread” (beer), you have the Medieval monk to thank for the existence of these liquid refreshments. Not only did monks maintain the monastery gardens from which herbs were harvested in the making of such spirits, but many were also master distillers. While people no longer depend on booze as a primary source of nutrition and hydration at a time when drinking water was risky, many of the concoctions of old are still – to coin a 14th century turn of phrase – wetting our whistles today. Among them: ale, beer, mead, wine, cider, Posset (eggnog), aquae vitae (brandy) and sack, the forerunner of modern sherry.

The introduction of bitters – aromatic herbs, roots, seeds and flowers infused in a combination of water and alcohol – allowed for more variety of concoctions and paved the way for modern pharmacognosy. The alcohol component acted as a solvent and a preservative, a significant advancement that extended the shelf-life of Renaissance-era tonics and digestifs. The addition of bitters to wine and brandy eventually gave rise to the modern cocktail, and many of the old recipes live on today.

Pass the plague water, please

Medieval peasants did not spurn water as a beverage because fish “did things” in it as some popular pub songs suggest, but it was dirty. Lacking much of anything else in reasonable abundance, one took their chances, although most people knew to boil water first before drinking it. As many pub songs also attest, alcohol was consumed in liberal quantities when available — up to a gallon per person each day! — but more for medicinal purposes than recreational. In this case, to ward off bubonic plague.

Plague water was a cordial made from a blend of wine and various botanicals. An old recipe from A Boke of Gode Cookery reads: “Take a pound of Rue, of Rosemary, Sage, Sorrel, Celandine, Mugwort, of the tops of red Brambles, of Pimpernel, Wild-draggons, Arimony, Balm, Angelica, of each a pound. Put these Compounds in a pot, fill it with White-wine above the herbs, so let it stand four days. Then still it for your use in a Limbeck.”

Plague Water (Modern Version)
1 ounce green Chartreuse
1/2 ounce Angostura (herbal bitters)
1/2 ounce pineapple juice
1/4 ounce lemon juice
1/4 ounce honey sage syrup

To make the honey sage syrup:
Combine 1 cup water, 1 cup honey and 1 heaping tablespoon rough-chopped fresh sage in a saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat until warm. Lower heat to the lowest setting and let simmer, while stirring, for five minutes. Remove from heat. Let cool and strain into a clean bottle.

To make the cordial:
Combine the Chartreuse, herbal bitters, pineapple juice, lemon juice and honey sage syrup in a shaker of ice. Shake and strain into a glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon, if desired.

The Sun Is Always Shining
By Madisyn Taylor

If darkness has fallen, know that the Sun is shining at this very moment, somewhere not too far away.

There are times when gloom or darkness causes us to momentarily lose sight of the light. Although it is at these times when the thought of the sun can help us. Its warm, glowing rays brighten even our thoughts, and it’s good to remember that despite appearances the sun is shining right now. We may not be able to see it at this very moment, but if clouds block our view, they are only filtering the sun’s light temporarily. If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere not too far away, and it’s only a matter of time before it will shine on us again.

When we remember that the sun is still shining, we know that things are still in motion in the universe. Even if life feels like it is at a standstill, sometimes all we need to do is have faith and wait for the time when everything is in its perfect place. Or we can we can choose to follow the cues of the sun and continue doing our work and shining our light, even when we can’t yet see results. In doing so we exercise our patience, making sure we are prepared when opportunity knocks and all other elements are in their right and perfect places.

The sun also reminds us that our own shining truth is never extinguished. Our light shines within us at all times, no matter what else occurs around us. Though the sun gives us daily proof of its existence, sometimes our belief in our own light requires more time. If we think back, however, we can find moments when it showed itself and trust that we will see it again. Like the sun, our light is the energy that connects us to the movements of the universe and the cycles of life and is present at all times, whether we feel its glow or not.

Weekly Horoscopes Beginning Sunday, 29 December 2019

If you`re born within cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you`re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You`re in the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.

Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible detail of everyday and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don`t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.

Aries
Personal theme: I am!!
Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19

Your horoscope for this week:

While you might be able to escape the range of demanding situations and individuals coming your way now, within weeks they`ll be central to your life; but you already sense that and, if you`re smart, you`ll begin to consider what you`re passionate about versus those situations you`d be happy to change, if not rethink entirely. This isn`t merely an idea. You`ll soon be doing exactly that.

As much as you`re trying to avoid tension, petty conflicts seem to bubble to the surface. One way to reduce the tension could be to keep people who don`t get on well together, apart. You`re taking everything very seriously and you may have to remind yourself too that you aren`t responsible for other people`s words and actions. Getting involved in a community project will make you more vigorous, active and energetic. Group events and activities bring people together in a spirit of harmony.

With the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all travelling through Capricorn and the apex of your solar chart, career matters must surely take priority. There is likely much you to consider and discuss. An alliance may be proposed. The issue here is how much investment you need to make. Obviously much depends on your personal chart but if this requires you taking out a loan it would be wise to take advice before actioning this. That said, what`s proposed could be exciting. Note however that we are between eclipses and that all may not be clear until after January 10. This week though would be an excellent time preparing a business plan. Energy levels looked to be particularly high over Thursday and Friday when you should be careful not to promise more that you can deliver.

Taurus
Personal theme: I have!!
Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20

Your horoscope for this week:

Often, minor differences with others are no more than that. At the moment, however, they`re prompting you to explore certain issues you`ve hoped wouldn`t turn into serious problems. They won`t, but that will require discussing these matters right away. The difficulty is, you`re still tempted to ignore them. Do so, and they`ll blossom into dramas far more complex, and lasting, than you imagined possible.

You don`t have to wait until the festivities are over to talk business. Attending an official event will work to your advantage. Keep networking and this could have a beneficial effect on your budget and your job prospects. You`ll make several new friends and someone you meet will help you realise a special aim. Family relationships are strained and it may be necessary to make some changes in a close relationship. It could be time to mend broken fences or if you`re in a troubled union, try to part ways as amicably as possible.

These are interesting times: The Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all travelling through another of the Earth signs, Capricorn. This puts considerable attention on Taurus expertise and qualifications. Anticipate challenge. Yet this might also be the perfect time for you to flaunt your many talents. As 2020 opens a re-evaluation process would be a good idea. Take time to review your CV and consider presentation generally. This covers everything from make-up and fashion style to your signature and online status. Taking time to review all of this would be wise – as would be considering if you need to improve qualifications in 2020.

Gemini
Personal theme: I think!!
Air sign: May 21 — June 20

Your horoscope for this week:

Only weeks ago, you hoped to discuss tricky issues involving joint ventures, business or finances, or possibly a blend of them all. If you`re up to date, you`ll know they`re in flux but, also, that in certain situations, what others regard as facts are unreliable. Once that`s clear, you`ll deal with what you can now, but wait until the dust settles in mid-January to finalise arrangements.

You`ve been giving an important project or assignment and if you do a good job, you could attract similar opportunities over the year ahead. Try to keep your feet on the ground and avoid fanciful thinking. Take a methodical approach to all work that has to be done. Regrets about the past should not stop you from embarking on a new lifestyle. New opportunities will come like a bolt from the blue and chances are, you will be excited by them once the shock has died down.

By the end of this week Mars will have arrived in your opposite sign. It`s then that you will likely experience challenge. This might be considerable. If you`ve been cutting corners in any way at all, anticipate that you will be challenged to put things right. Note too that over this end of 2019 and into 2020 the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all travelling through the sign of Capricorn and accenting an area of your chart that is all about deep, and lasting relationships but also about legacies and yes, death and inheritance. There may be very big issues for you to grapple with and to discuss. There might also be a legal or international element to this -possibly requiring you to pay for extra advice.

Cancer
Personal theme: I feel!!
Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Although the eclipsed New Moon was on Thursday 26 December, you`re both thinking about the events it triggered and will be aware of the repercussions for some weeks. Knowing that, when making decisions, try to ensure they`re flexible and, ideally, encourage others to adopt the same approach. While you can make plans, you`ll also be able to explore new and often intriguing developments as they arise.

You could be making some space in your home for a relative or roommate. An addition to your family will fill your heart with joy. Adopting a pet or visiting a shelter to look for a furry companion are other possibilities. Your love life is starting to improve. Your personal charm and magnetism will pull admirers towards you like moths to light. If you`re single, you could meet the future love of your life thanks to a matchmaking friend.

There is now considerable build-up of planetary attention in your opposite sign of Capricorn. The Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and the Moon`s South Node are all moving through this sign. Partnerships will very likely be affected. It could be that someone close is considering making massive investment. They perhaps need your support. It might also be the case that family matters will require you to take on extra responsibility. All this might leave you wondering as to how you can sustain your own career prospects in 2020 when your undoubted talents will be needed and recognised and rewarded. For now, it may be important to ensure that you maintain contacts with all those who could help.. Indeed, making this `network week` would not be such a bad idea.

Leo
Personal theme: I will!!
Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Intriguing as the ideas you`re discussing may be, others seem to assume the fact you`ve asked questions means you`re ready to commit. Waste no time correcting them but, instead, explore further. The problem is simple – you`re short of details. What`s more, with the foundation on which these would be based shifting, there`ll be lots to discover and discuss, now and in the weeks to come.

If you`re travelling to celebrate the New Year with family some distance away, you may have to make sudden alterations to your schedule.. This will be inconvenient and it will cause frustration but there is little you can do other than accept what has occurred. You`re fighting a losing battle trying to get someone you work with to see things from your point of view. If your professional life is getting too stressful, you might want to look for another job.

With the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and the South node all moving through the Earth sign of Capricorn, you could feel all bogged down. Pressures may be intense especially if these are property and family-finance related. The fact that this is happening at the turn of the year suggests further pressure. Yet the planets move on and, by Friday, Mars will have moved from the asset management area of your solar chart into one that is associated with risk and speculation and yes, pleasure. Finding creative solutions to difficulties will likely be easier as January progresses. This week you could make useful enquiries and strike up a good rapport with those who live and work some distance away and whose knowledge about an area proves useful as you go through the decision-making process.

Virgo
Personal theme: I analyse!!
Earth sign: August 23 — September 22

Your horoscope for this week:

With your ruler Mercury joining fortunate Jupiter, tough Saturn and Pluto in accenting who and what you are about most, there`ll be a lot to discuss and, ultimately, a lot to decide. However, you`re unlikely to be making those decisions until mid-January, which means you`ve time to declutter existing arrangements, edit your priorities and seriously examine those ideas and offers currently coming your way.

Talking to older relatives will inspire you to start tracing your family history. Be sure to write down all they tell you and you`ll thank yourself for this, in the future. It will be fun to uncover the backstory of your family and this could mark the start of a fascinating hobby. Your ideas for making your resources stretch a little further are welcomed by your family as this is likely to improve your financial prospects considerably.

Yours is perhaps one of the best signs of the zodiac to make the most of this week`s considerable and unusual planetary energies. The Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and the South node are all passing through another of the Earth signs, Capricorn: in your case also highlighting an area that is all about being creative and building on talents. Yes, this might have implications in your romantic life too. It also suggests that you could step into 2020 determining to enjoy your working life to the full. Note however that we are between eclipses: it may be that you decide that before the year is out that you will move into a new area altogether. The fact that you have that goal in mind should make a real difference to your approach to the new year. It`s very likely that you will consider either moving or making considerable domestic change. The momentum for this should increase after Mars arrives at the base of your solar chart on Friday, January 3rd.

Libra
Personal theme: I balance!!
Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22

Your horoscope for this week:

While this actual process of dealing with recent unsettling issues wasn`t easy, the resulting discussions have been amazingly informative. So much, in fact, you`re now intrigued by certain ideas, people or pursuits you`d once have regarded as just plain dull. Bear this in mind when yet more sudden events turn those recently made plans on end.

It`s been a long wait but at last you will get the go ahead to start on an important career project. An open minded professional has been pulling strings on your behalf and as a result you could reach career heights you never thought possible. Even when faced with obstacles you will be determined to keep moving forward. Your New Year celebrations will go with a swing especially if you`re welcoming new people into your circle of friends. Hosting a party is a natural extension of your generous spirit.

The close of one year and the beginning of the next occurs as the Sun passes over the base of your solar chart and the spotlight is shown on all that`s been lacking and all that needs to be done. Unusually, and for the first time in many centuries, there is also a build-up of planets in Capricorn. That suggests that you are indeed coming to the end of a chapter. Hold the thought that another one beckons. Your ruling planet Venus is already in another of the Air signs, Aquarius. True, you might need to put effort in to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fact is that it is there! Note too, that we are in that curious period between eclipses. You won`t be the only one experiencing endings but also the promise of fresh beginnings. The art this week is not to get too bogged down by the past and simply acknowledge that certain systems are now past their sell by date. With Mercury aligning with Jupiter next Thursday, you may find that very early in the New Year interesting developments lead you to where you want to be in 2020.

Scorpio & Ophiuchus
Personal theme: I desire!!
Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21

Your horoscope for this week:

Ultimately, it`s about broadening your horizons, and in wonderful ways. For months, if not years, you`ve expertly sidestepped changes in your way of thinking, living, loving or working that you regarded as a compromise; but now that certain events have drawn you into these, it`s altered your perspective and, in turn, made you wonder whether it`s worth exploring these. It is. Begin now. Things are moving swiftly, and by mid-January you may have no choice.

You can`t wait to get back to your normal routines. People are already making plans for the future but you aren`t in a rush to start on anything new. You`ll prefer to take each day at a slow and steady pace. Solitary pursuits sound more relaxing than going to a big party but you may have to make an effort to be sociable to keep friends happy. Besides, a lavish gathering is worth attending. It`s not long now before you`ll have a chance to recharge your batteries.

Firstly, recall that we are in a period between eclipses. With the geomagnetic field altered, behaviour tends to be different too. The fact that this coincides with the end of one year and the beginning of another as, more importantly, pressure builds two signs away from yours in Capricorn, suggests this could be a momentous time. Mars is travelling through your sign; and yes, it`s entirely possible that others will be emotionally demanding. Yet it`s equally likely that they`ll feel that way about you. In fact, you will need to take care that you don`t go over the top and overdramatise. View all this as though a cake is being mixed with one ingredient added slowly after the next. This mixture won`t be ready to be cooked for some weeks yet. There`s no need to over-react at each stage. For now, you may be particularly grateful to those born under Cancer or Capricorn who, in different ways offer caring but solid support as you consider options for 2020.

Sagittarius
Personal theme: I see!!
Fire sign: November 22 — December 21

Your horoscope for this week:

On several recent occasions you did something out of character. Instead of making a swift decision, as you`d ordinarily do, you`ve allowed events to take their own course. The result has, obviously, taken you into new, unfamiliar but exciting territory. Better yet, if you can manage to keep up this easy-going approach, what you do and who you meet won`t just be interesting, they`ll be life-changing.

A friend or neighbour will try to drag you into their problems. This isn`t unusual for them and you`ve reached a point where you just don`t want to know. By making yourself scarce whenever they approach you, they will learn to fend for themselves. A partner or housemate enjoys the finer things in life on a regular basis. As well as material comfort, you need spiritual satisfaction too. Listening to music, charity work and creative pastimes are all things that bring you joy.

Mars arrives in your sign next Friday and from then it will likely be all systems go. Others will need to know more from you about the background and development of various matters: you being the perfect person to ask! Before then, it`s right that you should focus on you and specifically, your general well-being. With so much activity in neighbouring Capricorn and accenting one of the financial zones of your solar chart, that area could be a preoccupation. Balancing the books might not be easy. However, it is likely that a major rethink of your values and the legacy you want to leave will prove therapeutic. Next Thursday, Mercury aligns with your ruling planet, Jupiter. Though this is perhaps not the optimum time for meetings, it would be an excellent time for putting thoughts on paper or even submitting an article.

Capricorn
Personal theme: I use!!
Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19

Your horoscope for this week:

Nobody has a better sense of when to plan ahead and, conversely, to let go and allow events to unfold as they must; but even you are anxious about the changes triggered by the recent Capricorn eclipsed New Moon and the wild ideas being suggested; but, in truth, you`ve a few uncharacteristically far out things in mind. For now, explore them all. Decisions can and should wait.

Before you start thinking about your next big expenditure, pay off all your debts. A partner will be taking a very practical approach to finances and you will follow suit. Creating a new household budget will take time and a lot of thought but your efforts will pay off. If you want to get close to someone why not suggest a new joint or team project? A mutual interest will keep conversation flowing and this will help you find common ground in other areas of your life, too.

It`s several hundred years and many generations since those born under Capricorn experienced a grouping of major planets in that sign; and yes, one level many eyes could be on you. Yet you could feel torn between the past and the future. It may be three months from now before you are able to make firm commitment to new direction. What seems clear is that plans and ideas that have incubated in the last eight years are ready for action. First though, you might need a few days to incubate ideas about presentation. This is where those born under the Fire signs of Aries, Leo or Sagittarius will likely play key role. It should be clear that they`ve identified talents in you that could be put to greater use in 2020.

Aquarius
Personal theme: I know!!
Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18

Your horoscope for this week:

As a logical Aquarius, you regard those who dwell on destiny`s role in their lives puzzling. However, recently, destiny has taken over certain elements of your work or lifestyle; and, surprisingly, you`ve observed from the side-lines as events have unfolded. This is wonderful, because these are broadening your horizons but, even more, your thinking. Soon you`ll be considering options that previously would never have crossed your mind.

Maybe it`s the time of the year but you long to explore new territory. It might seem as if obligations have been keeping you tied to certain people and places but with a little thought and imagination, you could rearrange your agenda to fit in a change of scenery. Think about what brings you emotional and spiritual fulfilment. Devoting more time to a new spiritual practice will uplift you and you will start to value yourself more.

You probably know that your sign is considered to be one of the more futuristic: comfortable with new ideas and developing concepts. That doesn`t mean to say that you don`t have a traditional core or a sentimental outlook. Yet the fact is that you recognise that there are advantages in trying out new methods. Venus has now left neighbouring Capricorn and is moving through your sign. The fact that Venus is leading the way into a new age suggests that you could be seen as a leading light. Not bogged down by old systems, others will likely see you as a torchbearer with promising ideas of how things could be. Yes, this might be exhausting given that too many people could tap into your energy. It`s possible though, that by the time Mars changes signs next Friday, that you will be re-energised by someone who is considered to be an expert and who shares with you a vision of how things could be.

Pisces
Personal theme: I believe!!
Water sign: February 19 — March 20

Your horoscope for this week:

The time has come to reorganise your life. This has been on your mind for ages, but you`ve been distracted by dramas of your own and those of others. Ignoring these won`t be easy, but it`s the only way you can concentrate on the increasingly appealing ideas or offers currently coming your way. For now, it`s about discussing them with others and exploration. Decisions can wait.

Some exciting news about money could add to your financial security. You`ve been longing to launch a home improvement project and this is your chance to do so. If you sense a housemate isn`t keen on the upheaval, remind them it will be temporary and you will all gain from this work in the long-term. Whatever the New Year is likely to bring, your thoughts are on your family. Home is where the heart is. Family traditions give you a strong sense of security.

You may remember that we are now between eclipses. The fact that this curious portal occurs as one year gives way to the next, and that a formidable line-up of planets is building in Capricorn suggest this could be a momentous time for all signs. You may be quite blown away by the actions or even the non-actions of neighbours. One way or another, it should be clear that a chapter is coming to an end and that another is about to open. This will likely have immediate impact on your environment and property matters. No less important however may be the links you have with groups and associations generally. One thing you might consider is moving allegiance from one set to another. Career wise it could be advantageous to do so. This likely isn`t an act of disloyalty but more about securing the long-term.
