Blessed be my little witch. To those who came before and those who will come after, know that the Goddess is with you always. Thank you all my dear readers…be blessed.
The NEW MOON always rises at sunrise
And the FIRST QUARTER at noon.
The FULL MOON always rises at sunset
And the LAST QUARTER at midnight.

Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline

Freeze Negativity in Its Tracks
Spell Date: Sunday, December 30, 2018
To freeze negative external forces in their tracks, try this spell. While it won’t solve all your problems, this spell aims to help keep these forces from having a harmful influence.
Procure a tight-sealing sandwich bag or freezer bag, along with a teaspoon of vinegar and a pinch of any of these: salt, pepper, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. On a piece of paper, write terms or draw symbols that represent the negative external energy. This could include words such as “sad,” “aggression,” “hurtful vibes,” and anything else you can imagine. You may also draw symbols, mean faces, Xs, and anything else that embodies negative external energies. Whether or not you know the source(s) of these external energies, it’s important that your writing capture the feelings you experience as a result.
Place the components in the bag. Crumple the paper and toss it inside, concluding by forcefully spitting into the bag of ingredients. Fill the bag with water. As you seal the bag, say:
“Forces of harm from beyond, be
gone! By this spell, it shall be done!”
Put the bag in a far back corner of your freezer.
In the future, when you feel that the magick is concluded, peel the bag off the ice and place the ice in your toilet to melt.

New Year’s Eve Spell
Spell Date: Monday, December 31, 2018
Tonight we tie a knot on the endless cord of time to signal the end of another year. Use this spell to cleanse yourself and your home so you don’t bring negative energy into the new year.
You’ll need a bayberry-scented candle, two feet of garden twine, and your cauldron. Light the candle to purify your space. Tie twelve knots in the twine to represent each month. Don’t worry if they aren’t evenly spaced. Then tie the ends together to symbolize the Wheel of the Year. Now hold the twine and say:
“I thank the divine for the good
fortune I’ve had this year,
I face the future without fear.
A year ends, a year begins,
My spirit is renewed as
the Wheel turns again.”
To release the past, drop the Wheel of the Year that you made with the twine into the cauldron and burn it. Let the candle burn for a while.

Bay Leaf Blessing
Spell Date: Tuesday, January 1, 2019
Happy New Year! Bless this new beginning by preparing a delicious stew or soup to warm the bellies and hearts of your friends and family. Add some magickal intentions for the coming year to the dish with bay leaves.
In folklore, the bay leaf is believed to grant wishes. In day-to-day use, it is a common kitchen herb, added to savory stews and soups while they simmer to add flavor. The bay leaf is removed prior to eating due to its fibrous texture.
Using a toothpick dipped in water, draw or write a wish on a bay leaf. A simple word is enough, such as love, luck, or health. Simmer the bay leaf in the stew as usual, and remove before serving. The symbol or word will have dissolved into the stew along with the intent behind it, spreading blessings to those who share your table.

Beat the Blues Spell
Spell Date: Wednesday, January 2, 2019
For most of us, the holiday season is officially over. Like many of us, you’ve also probably been on a whirlwind schedule of holiday festivities since November. But now the holiday decorations come down and life returns to normal. So it’s easy to feel blue at this time of year. Let this spell help you overcome the blues.
You’ll need a cinnamon-scented candle, a sheet of pink construction paper, a red crayon, and a pen. First, light the candle and relax. Next, with the crayon draw a large heart on the paper. Inside the heart write this charm with the pen:
“Season of goodwill and cheer,
Family, friends, and all that I hold dear,
May you remain in my heart throughout the year.”
Let the candle burn out safely. Keep the paper in a special place. Read it when you need a lift. Remember to keep in touch with everyone who made your holidays special.

The Waters of Purity (Simplified)
Spell Date: Thursday, January 3, 2019
For this spell you will need your chalice filled with water. Ground and center. Contemplate that which troubles you and imagine that it takes the form of a black smoke, which you now direct into the water with each exhale. Continue this until you feel the water has become dark and “poisoned.” Enchant the water, saying:
“Poison I have held within,
Fear or anger, shame or sin,
Transform by breath of witches’ flame.
My power shines.
I here reclaim.”
Take a cleansing breath and imagine breathing white fire directly into the water as you intone the sound of a low, vibrant hum. With each exhale, the darkness in the cup begins to transform in your mind’s eye, becoming a brilliant crystalline luminescence. When you feel this is at its peak, reverently drink the water, feeling this light of transformation working its magic within you. Go about your day remembering this light within.

The Number Four for a Balanced Beginning
Spell Date: Friday, January 4, 2019
Magic is often associated with the number three in witchcraft, but four can be a powerful magical number as well. Think of the four quarters, balanced and equal, for instance. In numerology, the number four signifies foundation and order, a practical approach to problems, and steady growth. What better way to start off the new year than to do a spell on the fourth day to tap into the magical power of four? Light four candles, one at a time, as you say this spell. ( You can do this on the fourth of any month.)
“Four the quarters, full of power,
Earth and air, fire and water.
Four the seasons, turning slowly,
Winter, spring, summer, fall.
Four for balance in my life,
Work and play, dark and light.
Four for a year filled with growth,
In measured pace, with joy for all.”

Bad Habits, Fly Away!
Spell Date: Saturday, January 5, 2019
A new moon and a solar eclipse: this is a time to welcome in and a time to banish. Such contradictions may seem impossible to resolve. The days begin to be longer, indicating an awakening, but we are in the time of the wheel of the year for introspection.
The first time you perform this casting, choose something simple, like a minor bad habit. Prepare your space, get comfortable, and envision your favorite bird. This friendly bird is awaiting your request. Next, envision the bad habit as well as the good habit that will replace it. After you write the bad habit on a piece of paper, your little bird puts out a leg and you tie the paper on. Fly away, bad habit! Now imagine that bird returning to you with the new good habit, or just the lack of the bad habit. Say:
“Little bird of feathers and flight,
Take this bad habit and make it right.
Little bird of feathers and fun,
Bring me a good habit, now it is begun.”

Heartwings Love Notes 861 New Beginnings
Heartwings says, “A New Year means a new beginning for all.”
Whether or not you make New Year resolutions, there is still a new year to be enjoyed. Remember when we were kids and as we left for school vacation we always said “See you next year?” Even when we were young there was something special about the change of the date from one year to the next. In days long ago when most people still believed in magic, there were a number of what is now called superstitions and they called rituals, connected with the celebration.
Many of them related to whom a person might marry in the next year. Marriage was on the minds of most young women who weren’t as yet married. Today there are so many more options for young women to explore. In those days too There were rituals to be performed that had to do with generating good health and good fortune. As well, there were many for foretelling the future. As a young child I remember my parents melting lead in a ladle over a fire in the fireplace. The ladle was then tipped into a cup of cold water. The shape that was thus formed would be interpreted to foretell the future for the year to come.
At the new year today it may be more appropriate to make plans rather than resolutions or predictions. Toward that end I remind myself that the name January is derived from the Roman god Janus. He is an interesting figure with two faces. One looks forward and the other backward. He’s sometimes known as the gate keeper or guardian of the doorways. The new year is a kind of doorway, I pass through to what, as yet I do not know. What better time to think about what I would like to accomplish than the beginning of a brand new year?
It is said that mistakes are helpful because they are how we learn how not to do things. Providing we do learn, of course. Often it may take a few of them to hammer home the lessons we need to learn. There is also a saying that those who do not remember past mistakes are doomed to repeat them. Glancing backward as we begin to move forward seems to be a good idea. That way I can be observant of where I’m going, and as well I’ll be less likely to repeat any errors of the past.
May you go forward into the new year with confidence and optimism.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert
PS Your comments, Dear Readers are important to me, and I do promise to answer all communications though it may take time. Thank you for any suggestions or ideas you may wish to share. I am most grateful. Tasha Halpert <email@example.com>
New Beginnings Ritual
There are many times in our life when all of us feel like we need a new start. Whether it’s at the beginning of a new year, a new moon phase, or even just because we’re having tough times in our life, sometimes it helps to sit down, breathe a bit, and focus on making things change. You can do this ritual any time you need to, but the important part is to remember that you’re doing more than just ritualizing your commitment to new beginnings. You’re also going to have to focus on the mundane things that make those changes take place.
Part of this process includes saying farewell to the old things. It’s time to get rid of the baggage that’s been dragging you down, toxic relationships that are holding you back, and the self-doubt that prevents you from successfully reaching your goals. For this ritual, which will help you say goodbye to the old and welcome the new, you’ll need the following:
A plain black candle (black is for banishing)
A plain green candle (green is often associated with success and new ventures)
A paper and pen
A fireproof bowl or small cauldron
Incense of your choosing
If your tradition normally requires you to cast a circle, do so now.
Light the black candle, and take a few moments to ground yourself. Meditate on all of the issues holding you back, causing you problems, or making you feel unworthy. If there is a certain deity that you have a connection to, you might wish to invite them to join you at this time, but if you don’t want to, that’s okay – you’ll simply call upon the energies of the universe when it’s time.
When you’re ready, say:
Life is a twisting and turning path, ever changing and flowing. My journey has brought me this far, and I am ready to take the next step. I call upon the energies and powers of [deity name, or simply The Universe] to guide me on my way. Today, I say farewell to all that has prevented me from becoming the person I wish to be.
Using the pen and the piece of paper, write down things that have created stumbling blocks for you. Bad job situation? Unsatisfying relationship? Low self-esteem? All of these are things that prevent us from growing. Write these things on the paper, and then light it in the candle’s flame. Place the burning paper in the bowl or cauldron, and as you watch it burn, say:
I send you away, far from me, and far from my life. You no longer have any influence upon me. You are my past, and the past is gone. I banish you, I banish you, I banish you.
Wait until the paper has burned completely away. Once it has done so, extinguish the black candle and light the green one. Watch the flame, and focus this time on things that will help you grow and change. Planning to go back to school? Moving to a new city? Getting healthier? Just need to feel like you’re worth it? These are the things to think about.
When you’re ready, light the incense from the flame of the green candle. Watch the smoke rise into the air. Say:
It is a time for change. It is time to begin anew. It is time to be a new person, strong and secure and confident. These are the things I will achieve, and I ask [deity name or The Universe] for guidance and assistance. I send my request out into the skies, to the heavens on this smoke, and I know that I will become a better person for it.
Verbalize the things you’re sending out, and make sure you’re using an active voice rather than a passive one – in other words, instead of saying “I wish I was healthier,” say “I will be healthier.” Rather than saying “I would like to feel better about myself,” say “I will believe in myself and be confident.”
When you are finished, take a few final moments to reflect on the changes you plan to see. Also, be sure to consider the mundane things that you will need to do to bring about your transition. For instance, if you choose to be healthier, make a promise to yourself to get more exercise. If you plan to move to a new town and make a fresh start, plan to begin searching for jobs in your destination city.
After you have finished, extinguish the candle and end the ritual in the manner of your tradition.

Ring Out The Old
The power behind new beginnings, whether it is for a New Year or a new day, can be found in the strength of our mental attitude. Encouraging words, affirmations and other tools can keep us along the path we desire. So engaging crystals as a tool for guidance seems only natural. Love, abundance, creativity are often the ideas we strive for the most.
This is excellent for surfacing and dissolving old beliefs. Kyanite reminds us that everything which happens is for a purpose, and that we are ultimately in charge. As we begin to look at the events of our lives in this perspective we can find that beliefs which we accepted as fact are brought to the surface. Placed on brow, this opens 3rd eye and blue/throat Chakra. Enhances psychic images, foresight, consciousness, meditation, communication. On 3rd eye; answers questions, especially in imagery. Brings out our natural ability to manifest things into reality via thoughts, visualization. Tranquility.
This is excellent for surfacing and dissolving old beliefs. The stone from outer space, both helps us become aware of our negative beliefs about being in physical existence, and makes us more comfortable on the earth plane. Variety of Tektite, but twice as rare! (fell to earth). Dull outside, deep clear green inside. Powerfully expands psychic vision, channeling. On Heart Chakra. Eases longing to leave earth. On pillow, brow, crown: Telepathic access to spiritual laws, info from higher regions/places to help us and Earth to be healthier and more spiritual. An intense meteorite helping people incarnating from elsewhere be more comfortable here on earth (reducing asthma, toxin sensitivity, emotional intensity, epilepsy…)(May make some too spacey; be sure to ground self after use and before driving). More rare, expensive and powerful than a plain “tektite.”
Ring In the New
For many people deepened spiritual growth is a primary goal. Amethyst is a helpful stone in realizing spirituality. Amethyst is a transition stone; it bridges physical and spiritual consciousness, and thus is very valuable in meditation. Psychic, imagery, mind quieting. Wear when sleeping or when awake to reduce anger, impatience, and nightmares. Brow + Crown Chakra. Headaches, eyes, scalp/hair, pituitary, pineal, blood sugar balance. Especially helps sobriety; alcohol/food/sex/other addictions. Famous ancient detoxifier (especially helped with poisons, alcohol). Dream recall. Stone of spirituality, contentment, meditation. Provides common sense, flexibility in decisions. Amethyst has a direct link to the mind. It bolsters the production of the hormones, and strengthens the cleansing organs, the circulatory system and blood, the immune system, and body metabolism. It soothes the nervous system and assists in the transmission of neural signals. Helps you feel less scattered and more in control of your faculties. Memory skills and motivation improve. Goals are clearer, more realistic, and easier to achieve.
This stone is a helpful stone in realizing spiritual growth. Part of spiritual development is knowing who we have been and deciding who we want to be. For this expanded sense of self clear quartz is the ideal stone. It is also a stone which can be programmed for any purpose. Clear Quartz is thought to amplify both body energy and thoughts. It can assist in the creation of power, clarity of thinking, meditation, cleansing, clearing the aura, spiritual development and healing. Clear Quartz is considered the “stone of power”. A dedicated healer. Pure white light passes through it easily, leaving all the colors of the spectrum unaltered and giving substance to the argument that Clear Quartz crystals can help balance all the elements needed to make us whole and fulfilled. Amplify whatever influences are present in an individual or location. Acts as a purifier and tunes into the frequency of each individual. Will unblock specific areas or organs blocked from transmitting or receiving the flow of energy throughout the body. Helpful in guiding our search for the meaning and importance of existence. Aids in meditation. Can be used in conjunction with any other stone or gem for specific physical problems. It will amplify the effects of individual stones and attune the treatment to the energy of an individual person.
Solid to translucent. There are two varieties of Jade, Jadeite and Nephrite. Nephrite is quite similar to Jadeite in its healing abilities, but its colors are creamier and less translucent than Jadeite; Nephrite is the more commonly found variety. Jade may come in a variety of colors, green, blue, black, violet, white, yellow and a reddish and brownish variety. Each with its own slightly different use. Green: Health, wealth, longevity stone. Ancient Chinese used also for courage, wisdom, justice, mercy, emotional balance, stamina, love, fidelity, humility, generosity, peace, harmony.. Lungs, heart, thymus, immune, kidney and blood detoxification, nervous system. Androgynous. A gentle, steady energy.
While all Jade has some healing influence, each color relates more specifically to certain ailments or organs. Properties common to all colors of Jade include its ability to mellow one’s existence. Helps one rid themselves of negative thoughts and energy. Strengthens the body’s filtration and cleansing systems and assists in teh removal of toxins. Very beneficial to the heart in both physical and spiritual senses. It is a very protective stone and will keep its wearer out of harm’s way.

Therapies for healing

Magee At The Reunion, Part 1.
It’s me, Magee, the eight pound, nine year old Silky Terrier. I was in the kitchen hoping for a treat as my human companion Sippi Bopp and her boyfriend and fellow cop Raven Jones were putting away groceries. They were agreeing that ours was a country of bridges and not walls. Personally I love walls, especially old stone walls on country roads where I can sniff and relieve myself, kick up a little dirt and go on.
As you know I’m a cop, and being a cop is important to me. Sippi works as a homicide detective here in town and reports to Chief Mallory. His smelly cigars make me sneeze and make my eyes water too. Chief Mallory likes me. He even saw to it that I was awarded a badge. Sippi sewed it to my collar. Makes me look more official.
Being a cop lets me fight crime: Digging up evidence, sniffing my way after scents that sometimes can lead to a conviction. This is so much more meaningful to me than chasing after a rubber squeak toy tossed across the living room rug by some friend of Raven’s or Sippi’s or even Sippi’s Aunt Bea. They all expect me to jump and go after it, stop whatever I’m doing and make nice by fetching it like some ordinary puppy.
I wandered around the kitchen. Sippi was talking to Raven. Her voice was flat, the way it sounded when she was reading a report to me.
“I can’t Raven. I can’t marry you just now.”
He turned and set down his beer. “Why not? Everyone we know calls us an item.”
“You still flirt with all the hot female FBI agents in the Boston office.
“Who told you that?”
Sippi laughed. “You did, but not in so many words.”
“What are you talking about?”
“If I weren’t around you’d birddog Sissy Hathaway faster than a speeding bullet.”
“Where do you get this?” He grunted and looked embarrassed.
Sippi gave him her eyes. “Raven, not only is Sissy a cracker jack agent, she’s one of my best friends. And we talk.”
Raven sniffed. “I think a man can appreciate another woman yet still be ready to throw in the towel and accept matrimony.”
“Exactly, Raven. But to me marriage isn’t throwing in the towel. Far from it. That’s where we differ.”
Raven spread his hands apart and tilted his head. “Sippi I love you. You know I do too. Why talk this way? Why are you being mean to me?”
Sippi paid him no attention. She reached into the cupboard and tossed me a smoked salmon ball. I jumped to try to catch it but no such luck. It bounced off my nose and landed on the floor. Sippi laughed. She looked down at me and said. “Magee, am I being mean to Raven?”
I knew not to get involved. Whatever they were talking about was a people thing that had nothing to do with dogs. I grabbed the salmon ball and twisted my head from side to side to fit it all in my mouth.
Sippi laughed. “See Raven, Look at the way his head’s saying ‘no.’ Magee doesn’t think I’m being mean to you.” She scooped me up and nuzzled me. “Do you sweetheart?”
Appreciative of my treat and as always hopeful for another, I made my soft whimpers.
Sippi is my human companion. I was left to her by my first human companion, Marjorie Latimer. We’ve been together since Marjorie’s cruise ship sank in the South China Sea. What Sippi and Raven and even Captain Mallory and Aunt Bea don’t realize is that Marjorie can talk to me from where she is on the other side, and sometimes she can be pretty insistent. More than that, to protect me she can throw her weight around too.
Being as small as I am helps that, and can be an advantage. It has its disadvantages too. Each time I walk through the squad room beside Sippi, I hear the sarcastic things other cops say about me. They all like big noisy dogs with loud barks that are very intimidating.
So you can see I do put up with a lot. Police work isn’t pretty. I’ve learned lessons the hard way. My relationship with dear Desdemona, my first love taught me a lot about trust. Losing my wonderful Blackie tore open my heart. When her body gave out I lost my one true love.
The telephone rang. It was Aunt Bea. She was back from her ’round the world honeymoon cruise with her new husband Charley Smiles, the publisher of our town’s newspaper.
Sippi chuckled. “Good evening Mrs. Smiles.”
“I’ll Mrs. Smiles you Sippi,” Aunt Bea laughed. “But I’m getting used to matrimony. Charley gave me ten credit cards all in the name of Bea Bopp Smiles. Better yet he said I had carte blanch on spending.”
“Hear that Raven,” Sippi said. “Charley gave Aunt Bea ten credit cards and told her to spend freely.”
“He’s just old fashioned,” Raven said choosing his words carefully. “I’m of the generation when men and women split expenses down the middle.”
I wagged my tail and very quietly begged for another spicy shrimp ball.
“Charley told me Horace Spike is back in town,” Bea said.
Sippi frowned. “I thought he was doing a long stretch for embezzlement.”
“He was pardoned,” Aunt Bea said. “I guess blind justice figures that if you know the right people you can walk around free.”
“I hope someone he swindled doesn’t come after him with a carving knife.”
“He’s back in his mansion by the lake. We drove by and it looks like an armed camp. Have you eaten yet?”
“No,” Sippi said.
“Then Charley and I will be by and take you and Raven to that new place, Reunion. I know you’ll like the lobster there.”
Something about hearing the word lobster perks me up. I barked and wagged my tail.”
“And yes,” Aunt Bea said. “Bring Magee. I’ll keep him on my lap.”
. “I’ll dress up,” Sippi said. She turned to Raven. “We’re invited out to dinner at Reunion.”
Raven nodded. He was wearing jeans, his black turtleneck sweater and polished black boot. I love the smell of black shoe polish.
“Bea said Charley told her that Horace Spikes is back in town,”
“Time flies when you can finagle a pardon,” Raven said.
Sippi went to change and came back wearing her red leather jump suit and fancy boots. Raven nodded appreciatively and smiled.
Just then Ku, the ancient Siamese cat came into the kitchen. He looked straight at me, yawned and sent me his thought.. “Much seems to be coming about.”
I wagged my tail. Maybe that meant I’d be on a new case. Maybe this time Sippi would let me sniff freely and not insist on keeping me leashed in what felt like protective custody. Time would tell.

Taking a Snow Day
By Madisyn Taylor
Feed your soul, and briefly separate yourself from life’s frenetic pace, by taking a snow day.
With so much to do all the time, it can be difficult to find time to simply breathe, think, and explore our inner landscapes. It is still possible, however, to feed your soul and to briefly separate yourself from life’s frenetic pace by taking a snow day. Personal snow days are best taken when you feel like you are running on empty with no chance of respite in sight or when you begin to resent the life you once loved.
Your snow day can go a long way toward dispelling built up stress, provided you give yourself full permission to indulge in nurturing activities. It is not a day to worry about what you’re missing or what is still lingering on your to-do list. Rather, it is a day to give yourself a break from your responsibilities so you can return to them when you are fully alert. Once you have scheduled your snow day, try to commit to ignoring your chores, not calling your place of work, and doing only the activities you enjoy. Relax, take a nap in the afternoon, play with children, meditate, work in your garden, or read a novel. Take a long walk in the fading afternoon sunshine and then cook a special dinner for yourself. Let your snow day be as languid and as lazy as you need it to be.
If necessary, prepare for your snow day by getting anything you think you will want or need ahead of time. Clean up or pay the bills the day before so you’re not tempted to work. When your snow day is over, hold on to its essence. Take some of the peacefulness you felt and keep it close to your heart. Even though we are a society that values overtime and hard work, you deserve a snow day every now and then.

To acknowledge that we have judged and why, is the first step to a path of compassion.
Though it is human to evaluate people we encounter based on first impressions, the conclusions we come to are seldom unaffected by our own fears and our own preconceptions. Additionally, our judgments are frequently incomplete. For example, wealth can seem like proof that an individual is spoiled, and poverty can be seen as a signifier of laziness–neither of which may be true. At the heart of the tendency to categorize and criticize, we often find insecurity. Overcoming our need to set ourselves apart from what we fear is a matter of understanding the root of judgment and then reaffirming our commitment to tolerance.
When we catch ourselves thinking or behaving judgmentally, we should ask ourselves where these judgments come from. Traits we hope we do not possess can instigate our criticism when we see them in others because passing judgment distances us from those traits. Once we regain our center, we can reinforce our open-mindedness by putting our feelings into words. To acknowledge to ourselves that we have judged, and that we have identified the root of our judgments, is the first step to a path of compassion. Recognizing that we limit our awareness by assessing others critically can make moving past our initial impressions much easier. Judgments seldom leave room for alternate possibilities.
Mother Teresa said, “If you judge people, you don’t have time to love them.” If we are quick to pass judgment on others, we forget that they, like us, are human beings. As we seldom know what roads people have traveled before a shared encounter or why they have come into our lives, we should always give those we meet the gift of an open heart. Doing so allows us to replace fear-based criticism with appreciation because we can then focus wholeheartedly on the spark of good that burns in all human souls.
