May your Ancestors be close at hand to whisper in your ear in your times of need and in times of uncertainty.
May your loved ones know that they are cherished and honored by your words and actions.
May your friends be plentiful and feel the appreciation of that warm hand when times are low.
And may you too be revered and honored by your family when you join the Ancestors.
Take the time today to remember your loved ones past and present. Appreciate the tiny messages you receive each day from all those who touch your life. And never take one day for granted with all that you can accomplish.
Blessed be my little witch. To those who came before and those who will come after, know that the Goddess is with you always. Thank you all my dear readers…be blessed.
The NEW MOON always rises at sunrise
And the FIRST QUARTER at noon.
The FULL MOON always rises at sunset
And the LAST QUARTER at midnight.

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Love Your Body Spell
Spell Date: Monday, October 22, 2018
This spell starts with a shower. While cleansing yourself, think about all the things our culture tells you that are currently issues for you. As you wash, tell yourself that you are washing yourself of society’s ridiculous notions of what a person’s body is supposed to look like and be like. Get angry if you need to: talk it out, shout it out, cry and mourn without shame.
After you dry off, go to your altar, naked, and visualize your chosen deities looking at you with love and approval. Say:
“I was made by the gods and goddesses
and am therefore perfect just as I am.”
Imagine a world where everyone looks just like you and where your body is considered the ideal form of beauty and strength. Allow yourself to Just. Feel. That.
Then light a red candle and focus on your vitality, your vibrance. Open your arms and let the warm red light come into you, filling you with courage and pride in yourself. Be blessed.

Warrior Witch Bottle
Spell Date: Tuesday, October 23, 2018
A couple of years ago, a series of nearby home invasions were more than a little alarming. When it comes to my home and family, the gardening gloves come off and the Warrior Witch gets ready to stir up some real protective power. I like to do this by making a Witch bottle. Originally made of clay, Witch bottles were used to ward off attacks by Witches and malicious spirits, but we can use them as a way to protect home and family.
In an old canning jar, place some hair or fingernail clippings from everyone in the family and/or your pets, broken glass, rusty nails and pins, protective herbs, soil from your yard, salt, and rice to absorb negative energy. Seal the lid of the jar with black wax and say:
“Absorb all negativity and keep back those who mean harm.
I invoke protection with the words of this charm.”
Tuck your Witch bottle away.

Call to Athena
Spell Date: Wednesday, October 24, 2018
On this day of the full moon, you can reach out to Athena for wisdom when implementing any change you desire. Today you can also tap into the energies associated with Wednesday, which can be used for communication and change.
You can petition Athena for assistance by taking a drawing of an owl and coloring it with gold, yellow, green, and blue. Place the completed drawing on your altar, and anoint it with orange or cedar oil. Take a moment to focus your energies on the change you are seeking. Call out to Athena, saying:
“Athena, lend your wisdom on this
change, so if necessary I can rearrange.”
Leave the drawing on the altar until the next full moon.

Blessing of the Animals
Spell Date: Thursday, October 25, 2018
We Pagans don’t have to wait for one day a year to bless the animals. Do this spell as often as you want to. Bless the creatures who live in our homes, the animals on our farms, and the wild animals in our cities and the wilderness. Remember that we don’t “own” any animals, because we cannot own another soul. That’s enslavement.
To bless the creatures who share our homes, buy some bird, cat, dog, or reptile treats and stand or kneel beside the animal, cage, terrarium, or aquarium. Give the animal a treat and pet it (if possible) and say:
“The Goddess blesses you and
loves you. I honor you and
share my home with you.”
For feral or wild animals (cats, squirrels, pigeons, crows, etc.), set out a few treats and speak the same words. For creatures like coyotes, bears, and alligators for whom it’s not safe in your neighborhood, throw the treats into their territory and speak only the first sentence of the blessing.

Apple Self-Acceptance Meditation
Spell Date: Friday, October 26, 2018
Friday’s planetary ruler is Venus. Venus of course is known for its resonance with love energy and magick. Apples are also ruled by Venus and are quite a seasonal favorite. Love is more than romantic love; it is the love that is self-acceptance as well.
Today, find an apple. Make the choosing process part of the magick. Find one that you find beautiful, realizing that imperfections do not dilute beauty. Once you have found an apple you resonate with, put it on your altar and meditate while gazing upon it. Notice that even with imperfections, it has its own beauty, without and within. Its appearance, how it was created, and everything about it is simply magickal and beautiful. Look closely at it. Notice that even where it looks perfect there are imperfections, perhaps perfect imperfections. Know that you, even if imperfect, are beautiful just like the apple.

Balancing Your Thought Processes
Spell Date: Saturday, October 27, 2018
The days leading up to Samhain are ideal for banishing and balancing. Because magick is guided so heavily by our thought processes, it’s essential to keep ourselves in check at all times. The path of mystical consciousness is, by nature, the path of self-improvement.
We are all prone to insecurity, doubt, and a pessimistic outlook rooted in our younger years. Regardless of your age, try this simple everyday magick for rerouting your mental processes.
Place a small black stone (such as obsidian) in your left pocket, and place a white stone (such as quartz) in your right pocket. When you catch yourself thinking bitter, destructive, insecure, or otherwise negative thoughts rooted in old patterns, grip the black stone and focus the energies into the piece. Next, while touching or holding the white stone, replace the thoughts with positive, balanced, uplifting, and hopeful thoughts while drawing energy from the stone. Continue this as long as you’d like, then conclude by tossing the black stone in running water and keeping the white stone on your altar.

Spell Date: Sunday, October 28, 2018
Today in 1767 the Mason-Dixon line was established, creating a boundary that later divided the North and South in the American Civil War. Have you ever felt that you needed to set a defined boundary between you and someone with whom you had little in common? To do this, you’ll need a short stick and two stones of contrasting colors. Black and white work best, but any other combination will do.
Place the stick on a windowsill or shelf, and put one stone on either side of it. Every day move the stones a little bit farther apart from each other, and as you do so, say:
“You don’t see it, but I am gone.”
Little by little, make a conscious effort to cease your activities and communication with the other person. Be polite but not encouraging. You’ll soon drift apart, usually without any huge confrontation.

Heartwings Love Notes 851: Save time or spend it?
Heartwings says, “What is more precious, time or money?”
The readjustment we all go through every spring and fall is fast approaching. Stephen rejoices because he feels the hour stolen from him in the spring is being returned. What I notice is that my timing is off by a little, and all of a sudden I have an hour less of daylight to use for anything I might have planned. Plus mealtimes are disjointed for a while. Stephen is resentful that “W” took three more weeks from standard time and tacked it onto daylight savings. He can be quite vocal about it.
What is daylight savings? It’s not as though we can bank any of the minutes or hours we might wish to “save.” When I spend time, it’s not as though I take it out of my wallet and plunk it down on a counter. Time is slippery stuff and my experience with it is that there are times when it speeds by and times when it drags yet it’s all the same objective time. Ever notice that from a subjective standpoint, going somewhere seems to take more time than returning home? Yet the amount of miles traveled as well as the minutes or hours spent remains the same.
Unfortunately for Stephen’s feelings, my habit has always been to try to pack as much as I can do into whatever time I have. Much to his annoyance because he prefers to be early, I also have a tendency to try to do more than is reasonable in whatever time there is before we leave. Or else I plan too much for what is realistic and then regret what I have to leave undone. To me time is more precious than money. It is possible to save or spend cash to one’s satisfaction, however that cannot be said about time, which despite our illusions to the contrary, we cannot actually control.
Regardless how true this may be, I seem unable to avoid finding one last thing to do before the allotted time is up. Why this is I am not sure. I do believe it is a habit that would be better broken than continued. Meanwhile I will work at this the best way I know how.
May you find good ways to combat bad habits.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha
Have you developed good ways to change bad habits? If so, please share with me. I so love to hear from you, dear readers.
Samhain is the time of year when we honor the Ancestors. It is believed
that at Samhain the veil between the apparent world and the otherworlds is
thin, and that we can reach through the veils to contact those who have
gone before us. We honor the distant ancestors of our family, our
immediate relatives, and our friends who are deceased. To prepare for this
meditation, have your cauldron or bowl ready. If you will be outdoors have
small sticks that you can light for a fire in the cauldron. If indoors,
have a short pillar candle or votive, and a fire brick to put under your
cauldron. Place paper and pen near the cauldron.
Visualize yourself walking in a place of nature. This may be a place you
already know, or it may be somewhere you create in your mind. Be aware of
the crispness of autumn, the chill in the air, the changing colors of the
leaves, the seeds that fall from dying flowers, the pine cones and acorns
underfoot. As you walk, you come to a low stone altar with a large
cauldron sitting on it. On the altar you see articles that you know
belonged to, or are representative of, your deceased ancestors, family
members, and friends.
Next to the cauldron is a small collection of wood ready to be lit. Light
the fire. (Or candle, if indoors).
This is your opportunity to contact anyone from your family, or among your
friends, that you wish. Think of why you want to contact them. Is there
any unfinished business with anyone that you would like to take care of
now? Do you wish to ask forgiveness of anyone? Is there someone you need
to forgive? Do you want to tell someone how much you love them and miss
Next to the cauldron you see paper and pen. Sit quietly, take your time,
and write your letters. Allow yourself to experience any emotions that
arise as you do this. When you have finished your letter or letters, burn
them in the cauldron. As the flame turns them into smoke, know that as the
smoke rises it carries your message. (If indoors, be careful).
Take a few more minutes to sit quietly before the cauldron. The cauldron
represents the womb of the earth, from which we come at birth and to which
we return in death to await rebirth. Gaze into it. This is a time to
receive messages. Take your time. You may have a thought, or image, come
into your mind. You may receive the answer to a question, or be given some
wise advice. You may simply have a sense of peace.
When you are ready to leave, ground yourself by placing your hands on the
ground, and crouching down. Allow any excess energy within you to flow
into the earth. Leave the circle, returning by the same path you took
before. Take the blessings of the cauldron of life and rebirth with you.
Why Are Black Cats Considered Unlucky?
How did black cats become associated with bad luck, and with Halloween traditions?
Every year when people begin putting out their Halloween decorations, and we start dressing our homes for Samhain, inevitably the image of the black cat comes up. It’s usually portrayed with its back arched, claws out, and occasionally wearing a jaunty pointed hat. Local news channels warn us to keep black cats inside on Halloween just in case the local hooligans decide to get up to some nasty hijinks.
But where did the fear of these beautiful animals come from? Anyone who lives with a cat knows how fortunate they are to have a cat in their life — so why are they considered unlucky?
The ancient Egyptians honored cats of every color. Cats were mighty and strong, and held sacred. Two of the most amazing goddesses in the Egyptian pantheon were Bast and Sekhmet, worshipped as long ago as 3000 b.c.e. Family cats were adorned with jewelry and fancy collars, and even had pierced ears. If a cat died, the entire family went into mourning, and sent the cat off to the next world with a great ceremony. For thousands of years, the cat held a position of divinity in Egypt.
The Witch’s Familiar:
Around the time of the Middle Ages, the cat became associated with witches and witchcraft. Around the late 1300’s, a group of witches in France were accused of worshipping the Devil in the form of a cat. It may be because of the cat’s nocturnal nature that it became connected to witches — after all, night time was the time they held their meetings, as far as the church was concerned.
Around the time of World War Two, when the American tradition of Halloween as trick-or-treat time really got underway, cats became a big part of the holiday decoration. This time around, however, they were considered a good luck charm — a black cat at your door would scare away any evil critters that might come a’calling.
Most people are far less superstitious today than they were in the Middle Ages, but the black cat remains part of our late October decor.
Black Cat Folklore and Legends:
Sixteenth-century Italians believed that if a black cat jumped on the bed of an ill person, the person would soon die.
In Colonial America, Scottish immigrants believed that a black cat entering a wake was bad luck, and could indicate the death of a family member.
The Norse goddess Freyja drove a chariot pulled by a pair of black cats.
A Roman solder killed a black cat in Egypt, and was killed by an angry mob of locals.
Appalachian folklore said that if you had a stye on the eyelid, rubbing the tail of a black cat on it would make the stye go away.
If you find a single white hair on your otherwise-black cat, it’s a good omen.
In England’s border countries and southern Scotland, a strange black cat on the front porch brings good fortune.
As an animal totem the black cat is the keeper of secrets, gatekeeper; when black cat crosses your path she is telling you to stay aware, as something very powerful is coming into your life: be ready to recognize it and receive it.
I have a black cat, Isis, and she is one of the most intelligent animals I have ever had the privilege of living with. Her intelligence, understanding, compassion, and kindness is beyond compare. So those of you that have a lovely black cat know what I’m talking about. You can Learn more about her by clicking here.
If you have a black cat please make sure you keep them protected on Halloween.
Honoring All Hallow’s Eve: Crystals Associated with Halloween
As a kid, Halloween was probably my most favorite holiday, next to Christmas, because it meant we got to dress up, pretend and get candy! As an adult, I think I have replaced that joy with another, and that is rock collecting! Each year, I find more and more precious gems and stones that continue to amaze me! This Halloween, I would love to share some of my all-time favorite crystals relating to the season.
Dragon’s Blood Jasper:
Dragon Blood Jasper is a magical stone designed by nature and capturing a rich “dragon green” matrix (epidote) that is dotted with deep red drops of “dragon’s blood” (really, red piedmontite). Energetically, this crystal is helpful for enhancing our vital Qi or life force energy. It is a stone for strength and courage. Due to its coloring, it is also associated with the Heart Chakra. It, therefore, brings the etheric body’s lower energies, the physical, emotional and ego body to meet and match the benevolence of the Heart energy. This stone helps one find the powers of love, forgiveness, and compassion, the exact energies used to tame the “inner dragon”. As with all jasper stones, dragon stone works steadily rather than rapidly. This stone is a methodical and meticulous worker of practical, down to earth solutions, hence the red piedmontite. The exceptional mineral make-up makes this stone one of the most powerful and dynamic of the stones in this family.
Hag Stone or otherwise known as a Witch Stone, Hol(e)y Stones or Adder Stone have occupied myth and magic for centuries. Used by farmers, people seeking protection and magical minded people, Hag stones are stones that have a naturally occurring hole inside them. Often discovered in fields or along coastal beaches, lakes or streams. These holes occur from the elements beating down upon them over many years. These stones were believed to be able to protect cattle from witches who would take them out in the middle of the night, ride them relentlessly and return them, exhausted to the farmers in the morning. The belief in these stones where so strong that farmers would hold them in their hands while milking their cows, in fear that if they did not, their milk would instantly curdle. Another magical mystery about this stone is the hole. It was believed that by looking through it, you would be privy to another world, the spirit/fairy world, as the solid part of the stone represents the material world while the hole in the middle represents the spiritual void. This is also why the wreath is used in funerals. Hanging a hag stone from a cord around the bedpost was believed to prevent night terrors associated with hags or witches afflicting the individual with her magickal powers or riding them. It considered extremely lucky to find a hag stone when you are out and about on a walk and even luckier if you have not set out intentionally to find one and just stumble upon it. These stones have been used for protection and fertility throughout the ages. Hang a hag stone around your neck for good luck and protection.

Achieving A High Vibration
By Madisyn Taylor
Affirmative activities that leave us feeling joyous, appreciative, loving, and peaceful raise our vibration.
All matter is made up of energy, and that energy is in motion continually. Everything in the universe, from the smallest molecules to the most complex living beings, has an optimal rate of vibration to keep it healthy. We reach this high vibrational level when we are whole, healthy, and fulfilling our potential. Human beings are able to consciously control these vibrations within themselves using a variety of techniques. We know when we have reached a high vibrational state because we feel good and can sense that we are aligned with all that is. We find we are capable of healing and have good intuition and perception that are a result of our resonating closer and closer to our ideal frequencies.
Thoughts, emotions, intentions, choices, and actions contribute to our vibrational state, as do the environments we inhabit. Affirmative activities that leave us feeling joyous, appreciative, loving, and peaceful raise our vibration. Constructive, creative, and expansive thoughts do the same. When we cultivate habits that contribute to our physical health and strength, our vibration is likewise raised. Certain mantra meditations, breathing exercises, and chants are designed to increase vibration. But simply practicing gratitude and forgiveness, surrounding ourselves with loving high-vibration people, eating whole foods, and spending time in nature can also help us transcend our current vibrational limitations.
When your desire for change is strong enough, you will find yourself gravitating toward what can help you achieve and maintain a high vibrational state. A positive outlook will then become the most important tool you possess, and this outlook will sustain you when the path leading toward transformation is wide and winding. As you evolve, your vibrational frequency will also evolve, aiding you in the creation of an even higher reality. Consciously and unconsciously, you will attract auspicious circumstances and positive people that will help you continue exploring the scope of your higher self until you move beyond the earthly plane.
Lucy and Sam had been looking forward to their first date night in months. They gave their cell phone number to the babysitter, kissed Jackie their six year old goodnight and left for the Golden Dome. It was a recently opened five star restaurant downtowns atop the Fitzwilliam Building.
They ordered drinks and sat at their table beside the glass window overlooking the city.
Sam took Lucy’s hand and gazed into her bright blue eyes. “You haven’t changed since our wedding, petit and lovely as ever.”
“Neither have you.” She giggled and picked at the stuffed mushrooms. “You’re still sexy and exciting, and you have all your hair, even if it is a bit gray. Many husbands start to wear out after ten years, but not you.”
He kissed her hand. “You’re as exciting to me as you were that first weekend back in law school when we were snowed in.”
“Ah that wonderful romantic blizzard. Couldn’t have come at a better time.” She smiled. “One day you’ll be made a partner in your firm.” She stood and kissed him. “Be right back. Little girl’s room.”
Sam gazed out across the city. He noticed the bronze statue of the soldier on horseback, holding out his sword.
The waiter came by. Sam ordered refills.
Lucy kissed him again as she sat back down.
The waiter returned with their drinks and they ordered dinner.
Sam pointed. “Look straight across at the little park and check out the statue.”
She looked where he was pointing. “I don’t see a statue.”
“A soldier on horseback, probably a Civil War memorial.”
“Aren’t they considered politically incorrect? Anyway I don’t see him.”
He frowned and looked closer. “It’s gone. How odd. I just saw him over there.”
She looked again and shook her head no.
Sam shrugged. “Maybe he had to go take care of business.”
She giggled. “I love your imagination and your great sense of humor.”
“Not kidding.” He caught the attention of the waiter. “I saw a statue over there but now it’s gone.”
The waiter pulled at his collar. “Yes sir, management doesn’t like us talking about it much.”
Lucy’s eyes widened. “You mean my husband saw a statue that disappears?”
He nodded and served their dinners. “Ask some of the regulars in the bar. General Grant’s gotten quite a fan club since we opened.”
” Some sort of urban fantasy?” His scallops looked delicious.
“An urban fantasy isn’t real,” Lucy said. That’s why it’s a fantasy. Oh look, is that the one you mean?” She pointed to the statue.
“Yes. I guess he’s back,” Sam seemed perplexed. “Maybe he really did have to take care of business like the rest of us.”
Lucy cut into her swordfish. “Sweetie statues don’t ride off like that. We just didn’t see him maybe because of some trick of the light.”
“Lucy I know what I saw and didn’t see. I’d swear to it under oath.”]
“You think so. Alcohol can do that. Remember when we couldn’t find your keys and they were right there?”
“That’s different. Jackie hid them under some papers.”
They finished dinner. Sam suggested a nightcap in the bar.
Lucy surveyed the patrons. “Anyone here ever notice a statue that appears and disappears?”
“Ah ha,” an older man in a three piece suit said. “New members of our exclusive club. Off the record, I’ve seen him come and go a few times. Many regulars have too. But we don’t talk about it.”
Maybe he moonlights delivering pizza,” a younger guy said.
A few within earshot laughed.
“Might have gone for a drink,” someone said. “Didn’t Lincoln always send Grant good whiskey?”
An older woman in a slinky black cocktail dress grinned at Lucy. “I’ve seen him come and go like that. When he does it makes my night.”
“It’s difficult to perceive what we can’t conceive as possible,” the older man said. “Like natives back in history with no conception of ships who couldn’t see Columbus’ vessels as they approached.”
The woman took Lucy’s hand and said confidentially. “He’s become my private obsession but I can’t talk about him anyplace but here.”
“That’s understandable,” Lucy said.
Another man chuckled. “No one wants to be thought of as loony tunes.”
The woman shivered. Perhaps it was the air conditioning. “His face is so chiseled and determined. Hardly any lips at all.” She emptied her glass. “One of these days maybe he’ll stop by and join us for a drink.”
All of a sudden there were shrieks from the kitchen. The lights flickered. Then they went out. The air conditioning whirred to a stop. An odd chemical smell engulfed the Golden Dome. Flames leaped from the kitchen into the dining room.
People screamed, panicked. Lucy clutched Sam.
Someone yelled. “The emergency exits are jammed.”
The fire grew more intense. The dining area and bar was engulfed in smoke. There was an enormous crash. Glass shattered and the night air blew in. Lucy saw a bronze rider whiz though a second and third glass partition. Then he flew out into the night.
Suddenly firefighters, ambulances, and police were everywhere.
When Sam and Lucy got home Jackie ran downstairs. “Daddy, daddy did you and mommy see the big fire downtown? We saw it on TV.”
“Wasn’t it where you were for dinner, the Golden Dome?” The baby sitter said.
“Yes, but we’re safe.” Lucy said.
“How,” Jackie asked. “How were you safe?”
Sam hugged his son. “The statue of General Grant smashed through the glass walls and kept us from being suffocated.”
Jackie grinned and began laughing uproariously. “That’s so funny daddy. Statues can’t do that.”
Lucy touched Sam’s arm. “Don’t try to explain.”
She paid the babysitter and took Jackie back upstairs to bed.
Alone in their bedroom Lucy said. “Remember what that older guy said at the bar about people unable to believe what they can’t conceive as possible?”
“But we saw it. We lived it.”
“Yes,” she kissed him. “Now it’s our secret as well as theirs. Thank you, General Grant.”
In A Hurry
By Madisyn Taylor
Always being rushed and in a hurry doesn’t allow time for the soul to enjoy life, which is composed of small, ordinary moments that can be beautiful.
Our lives have become increasingly fast-paced, and the effort to keep up often occupies all our time and attention. We are so busy rushing from point A to point B that we forget to enjoy the ride. We race to the store without noticing the leaves on the trees or the clouds in the sky. We go through the checkout line feeling too pressed to converse with the cashier or the other people in line. At the end of a day filled with this kind of frantic pace, we may begin to wonder what it is we do all these things for, if we don’t even have the time to occasionally stop and just take it all in.
Always being rushed and in a hurry doesn’t allow time for the soul to enjoy life, which is composed of small, ordinary moments, like watching snow fall from the sky, having a spontaneous conversation with a stranger, or lingering over a meal for several hours. Small towns and the people who live in them can teach us all a thing or two about living life to the fullest as a daily matter. City people have a tendency to think that their lives are full because they are doing so many different things, but in a small town, there tends to be more time left open to be spontaneous or take an extended moment of rest. This certainly doesn’t mean that we can’t live in a city and enjoy life fully–we can and do; it just takes a little more awareness.
One thing we can do, wherever we live, is bring awareness breaks into our day and take 10 minutes to simply look out the window and observe what’s happening outside. We might also choose to cultivate a relationship with someone we see regularly, such as a clerk at the convenience mart, a neighbor, or someone we see in the elevator at work. Taking time to have a conversation that is not necessary is a true luxury in this day and age, as is staring out the window. Participating in these acts of timelessness makes the biggest city in the world start to feel a little bit more like a small town.
