Candle and the Wind
Spell Date: Sunday, March 25, 2018
Today is Sir Elton John’s birthday, and like him, you can break bad habits and rise to personal success. You’ll need a white candle and a match, pen and paper, and a white candle. It’s best to do this outside, but inside will also work.
Light the candle. Using the pen and paper, write down the habit you want to break. Fold the paper four times. With each fold, repeat a line of this verse:
By fold of four, open the door.
By fold of three, so mote it be.
By fold of two, the spell is true.
By fold of one, this vice is gone.
Put the paper on a heatproof surface. Set it on fire and let it burn away, ashes to the wind. (If you do this inside, save the ashes and take them outside to the wind when you can.) Pinch out the candle and trust the process.

Overcoming Obstacles to Success
Spell Date: Saturday, March 24, 2018
Since this day has both the first quarter moon and Mercury in retrograde, it’s an excellent time to overcome obstacles, “turning a corner” to greater success.
For this spell, create an oil from 1 tablespoon oregano, 1 tablespoon mint, and 1/4 cup almond (or sunflower) oil. Set a cauldron in the middle of an altar table, with a white candle to its left and an orange candle to the right. On a piece of paper, write the obstacle to overcome in black ink. Anoint both candles with the oil you’ve made and light them, left then right.
Hold the paper, focusing on overcoming this problem, then light it in the flames of the white and then the orange candle, saying:
“Mercury moving through the past,
sun squared moon, adds to the charm;
to overcome obstacles, fortune at last,
victory gained, free from harm.”
Drop the paper into the cauldron to burn to ashes.

Fairy Love Spell
Spell Date: Friday, March 23, 2018
To draw a new love, find red primroses at your local nursery and pot them. If weather permits, place them near your front or back door. Touch the pot with both hands, gaze lovingly at the flowers, and say:
“Flower of love, realm of the fey,
bring me a lover before it is May.”
Today and every following Friday until the spell has done its job, place one shiny dime in the pot and then kindly and gently snip one blossom. Slip it into a small muslin bag and pin it inside your clothes near your heart. As you do so, feel the feelings associated with the love you’d like to attract. Devotedly tend to the living flowers as long as they flourish. When your spell has succeeded, share a bottle of champagne with your new love after offering the first glass to the earth in gratitude to the fairies.

Thor’s Day

Named for the Norse god Thor, the protector of humankind, Thursday is a good day for a protection spell. Thor is the god of thunder, so why not use thunderous sound to clear your home? Sound waves help to rearrange and change latent energy patterns. The vacuum cleaner is perfect for this, loud and disruptive. It can break up energy and then suck it up and easily dispel it. It will also help with physical cleaning, removing dirt and dust.
The word widdershins comes from the Old High German widar, meaning “back” or “against,” and sinnen, meaning “to travel.” Move counterclockwise (widdershins) from room to room and within rooms as much as possible, quickly disturbing, transforming, removing, and dispelling stagnant energy. As you clutch the vacuum, envision Thor wielding his hammer. Channel his strength and protection and let his rumbling thunder chase away negative energy, worry, or fear. Empty the vacuum outdoors when you’re finished.

Spring Cleaning Spell
Spell Date: Wednesday, March 21, 2018
The beginning of spring is the perfect time for cleaning with intention! You’re not just clearing cobwebs, dust, and grime, but clearing your home’s stale energy and creating a fresh space to welcome in new energies of possibility, prosperity, and healing.
For this spell you will need 1/4 cup salt and a teaspoon each of rosemary and lavender buds. For the essential oil spray you will need 3 to 4 drops of essential oil (fir, lemon, or orange are fine and smell great) for each 8 ounces of water.
Mix the salt, rosemary, and lavender buds together in a bowl, then sprinkle the mixture in all the corners of your rooms, working clockwise around the house from your starting point. Sweep or vacuum up the mixture, visualizing the removal and dispersal of all negative energy. Then spritz the corners of the rooms with the essential oil spray and invite in positive energy as you go, speaking your intentions aloud in whatever way is comfortable. You can use additional herbs or essential oils for specific intentions, such as cinnamon for money, lavender for healing, rose water for love, or basil for protection.

Happy spring equinox! It’s a special feeling to realize that daytime and nighttime exist in equilibrium for but a moment, and only twice a year. The energy of balance is all around us at this time, waiting for us to utilize it beneficially. Today, day and night are of equal length. In the Northern Hemisphere, we now begin our ascent into the light half of the year.
As a Neopagan archetype for the light half of the year, the Horned One has been known by numerous names over time and across cultures. What does this bright, wild, solar embodiment mean to you?
Today, take a nice long walk outside to find natural items that represent this archetypal force and the projective energy of the solar year. Perhaps you will find a bit of newly sprouted grass, a bud on a tree, a brightly colored stone, and so on. (Note: Be careful not to over-pick. Gratitude on Saint Joseph’s Day

Today is Saint Joseph’s Day, an anticipated occasion for celebration in Sicilian culture. The Sicilians create large altar-like tables of food called “Saint Joseph’s tables,” or tavole di San Giuseppe. These altar-esque tables are stacked to capacity with various kinds of delectable foods, but the star of this celebration is bread. The bread is baked into various artful shapes, such as baskets, fruits, suns, moons, animals, and even angels. The purpose of the celebration is to show gratitude for Saint Joseph’s continued protection of the family and the bounty of food from the earth. The bread in both traditional Sicilian culture and modern Pagan culture remains a symbol of bounty.
Today, using a favorite recipe, bake your own bread in a shape that is meaningful to you as a symbol of your gratitude for the earth’s bounty and for all that you have. Place the bread upon your altar to charge until you serve it at dinner.

Heartwings 820 Befriending Ourselves
Heartwings says, “We are happier when we treat ourselves like a friend.”
For the most part very young children are naturally generous. This may be because they do not yet have a strong sense of individuality or perhaps because they feel others will enjoy what they find tasty or enjoyable, whether a cookie or a cherished plaything. Later on they lose this openheartedness and fight to keep what they believe is theirs. At this point most parents teach them to be polite and sharing. This lesson becomes a kind of inner imperative that guides us as adults. We learn to feel better when we obey this inner morality and as a consequence often end up depriving ourselves in favor of giving to others.
When was the last time you bought yourself a present—not something practical but something you wanted and didn’t think you ought to spend the money for? You might even have recently bought a gift for someone else that you would have liked to give yourself, and yet didn’t quite dare to for fear of your own disapproval. Most of us have been taught to think of others before thinking of ourselves. While that is a nice way to behave it often leaves results in making us feel deprived or at least somewhat resentful.
Giving to others is praiseworthy. Depriving ourselves to give to others is not. It often results in our feeling the other person ought to be more grateful than they may be…especially if the other does not know how you sacrificed to do that. The reason we too often give to others at our own expense is that it feels nicer to do for others. It gives us good feelings because we’re acting in accordance with what we feel is the right thing to do. But is it? I believe it is important or even necessary to treat ourselves as we would a friend.
Long ago I met and studied with a teacher that taught me about this. It was the beginning of a friendship between myself and me. I learned that if I listened to a wee small voice inside me I would receive true guidance toward correct behavior when it came to giving to or acting for myself. I am not speaking of being selfish or self-centered. There is a big difference between befriending oneself and spoiling oneself. I do not believe in self indulgence to a point of neglecting others, only in being fair about the balance between giving to others and giving to myself.
The real key here is that balance. I can tell when things get out of balance because that inner voice will cry out in pain or sorrow. I may feel neglected or ignored even when I am actually not. Learning to hear that inner voice requires giving up the righteous feelings I get from self-sacrifice and instead asking myself what I really want to have or do instead. I can ask myself if is this how I would treat a friend? The answer comes as a knowing or an understanding. Then my actions are guided by what is good for all concerned including me. Blue Moon 31 March 2018 – Full Moon Blues
The Full Moon on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 10° Libra is a blue moon because it is the second full moon of the calendar month. The Blue Moon March 2018 astrology chart has eight challenging red aspects and one helpful blue aspect. Full Moon March 2018 is a blue moon in every sense of the word.
Mercury retrograde opposite the full moon means it will be hard to understand your feelings and even harder to share them. Saturn squares the full moon and Mercury brings negative thinking, sadness, and loneliness. Worry and fear from fixed stars make this a particularly troubling full moon. Doing nothing and letting the full moon get you down is not an option.

Full Moon Meaning
A full moon occurs when the Sun is opposite the Moon. This highlights opposing forces or polarities in your life such as your work versus home, or what you need versus what you want. Inner tension and external pressures can lead to personal conflict and crises that drain your energy. Your home, family and intimate relationships come into sharper focus following a full moon.
The lunar qualities of emotions and instincts reach their peak at a full moon. Subconscious awareness allows for an impartial and balanced look at your personal relationships. Use your increased emotional strength and intuition to overcome any relationship challenges. You will clearly see any relationship dynamics or negative feelings causing disharmony.
A full moon has a relationship to the previous new moon. Your March 17 New Moon goals can now be fine-tuned or completed, it’s harvest time. You can make emotional adjustments in response to those new moon goals. The effects of the March 31 Full Moon lasts for two weeks up to the April 15 New Moon.
Blue Moon Meaning
An astronomical blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. About 3% of all full moons are blue moon and they occur on average once every 2.7 years. So having a blue moon in February and March 2018 is very rare indeed. However, blue moon astrology is no different full moon astrology. There are no ancient myths or superstitions about blue moons. The term “blue moon” only appeared a few hundred years ago when Shakespeare used it to describe something that is rare or absurd.
Blue moons are only possible using the Julian calendar. Most people in the world still use a lunar calendar like our ancestors did. If the Western World still used a lunar calendar we would be more in tune with natural cycles. We yearn for meaning in the moon and stars above. The Julian calendar is one reason we are so removed from our cultural roots.

The March 31 full moon aligns with two stars in Virgo Constellation as shown below. Both stars need consideration because the Moon has already passed over them, unleashing their full potential.
10°11′ Libra – Vindemiatrix Star
10°23′ Libra – Porrima Star
10°44′ Libra – Full Moon
Fixed star Porrima gives a courteous, refined and lovable character with prophetic instincts. Moon conjunct Porrima: Popular, business worries, domestic disharmony and divorce, poor health.
Fixed star Vindemiatrix gives falsity, disgrace, stealing and often causes its natives to become widows. Moon conjunct Vindemiatrix: Worry, many disappointments, loss through law or writings and theft, bad health, failure in business. The Moon in particular with this star causes a fear of losing your partner. Through your own fear, you could project the loss.
Because these two stars are so close together and only half a degree from Full Moon March 2018, the prophetic instincts of Porrima combine with the fear of death from Vindemiatrix. This is a warning to those who dare predict the death of another person. Also, if you find yourself having morbid fears about the death of a loved one, it is critically important that you do all you can to put these thoughts out of your mind. This can be difficult with the Moon at this position because any such thoughts, feelings or imaginations will be subconscious.
Thoughts are things and they have energy and can manifest in the material world. It becomes more difficult to say no when the whole world around us appears to be an astounding affirmation of the resilience, richness, and plain, perfect beauty of life. Finding Inspiration Series: Creating Your Crystal Space
My ‘Finding Inspiration’ series was written out of a need that comes
up in my practice, most often in Spring and Fall. I feel we all need
a bit of enlightenment now and then to help us move forward. Finding
motivation through inspiration can be the spark which sets you on
your way! With the start of the New Year, what better time to be
inspired.
Making a sacred space of your own, whether it be an alter, meditation
space, area for your crystal treasures or just room for you to
breath, can be a fun and exciting choice.
1. First, find a space to use on a regular basis for “your” space.
Doing this,conditions your mind to become familiar and therefore feel
relaxed once you are in the space, as it allows you to ascend. In
time, just sitting in your space will immediately relax you.
Your space can be a small area in your home where you can sit with
your eyes closed for at least a few minutes each day. Choose a clean,
quiet place away from all distractions where you can sit on a chair
or on the floor. If you use a chair, choose one that allows you to
keep your back as straight as possible. If you sit on the floor, you
may want to lean your back against something so that you can keep it
straight.
2. Whatever area you choose to use, you first want to cleanse/clear
that space.
Space clearing can be done on a physical level by decluttering your
surroundings. It can also be done on a metaphysical level with such
tools as herbs, salts, crystals, incense, oils and yes, intention.
The power of (halite crystal) sea salt is a safe and effective way to
clear and cleanse any space of negative energy. Sea salt is obtained
by evaporating seawater. Energy in itself, is the vital source, which
radiates from everything and everyone around us. When we are ill,
emotionally upset, angered or imbalanced, our moods and of course,
our energy is altered. Coming in contact with energy that is negative
can often be sensed, even felt. The result is often a feeling of
uneasiness, confusion or an opposed feeling to our current state of
mind. Cleansing with sea salt or rock salt is preferred over iodized,
processed table salt.
Cleansing a room with salt can be done by placing salt in small bowls
and placing them in the 4 corners for 24 hours. Take two teaspoons of
sea salt and dissolve it into some warm water. Pour it into a mister
or spray bottle and spray it wherever you need cleansing.
Adding herbs or essential oils to sea salt can give an added bonus to
cleansing. Herbs such as lavender, sandalwood, tea tree, thyme, and
rosemary are all good compliments. When using herbs, place them in
the salt and shake the salt in a closed container. This bruises the
herbs and allows its essential oils to incorporate into the salt
matrix. When using essential oils, add a few drops to salt and then
stir or shake the salt in order to mix them well.
Misting yourself for an overall clearing can do cleansing of negative
vibes. Draw a bath. As the hot water is filling the tube, add two or
more tablespoons of sea salt to the running water and stir it so it
dissolves in the tube. Relax in your bath for 15-20 minutes.
3. For a few days just sit quietly in your space for five to ten
minutes. This will help establish your energy.
4. Before you sit, consider using the following “tools” to help
increase your intention for the space.
a.) You may light a candle or some incense, if you like. Eventually,
lighting the candle or incense will signal your brain that it’s time
for “sacred time”.
b.) Place in your space only items you absolutely love
unconditionally. Do not place it there just because you think it
belongs there. These “tools” should be items that empower you, give
you strength, energy and allow you to feel good.
c.) Add your most special crystals into your space. You can create a
border with them or design an area or “cluster” just for them.
d.) Remember, this is a living breathing space, so any items that
served you this day, may not serve you tomorrow. So feel free to
bring into your space different items (or crystals) that work for
your that day.
e.) Now, sprinkle with intention. Intention is a tool that can be
used to bring about change. With clear intent, we formulate a greater
deliberateness in order to achieve the end result.
The Map of Intention
When you break down the process of what true intention really is, you
will find a process that unfolds before you. By applying this
process, you create your intention. Here is how you map out your
intentions:
1. Have purpose : Your reason behind your intention is purpose.
Having a purpose infers a more determined path.
2. Design your intent : This suggests a more careful, laid out and
calculated plan of action. What, when, why where, how.
3. Improve your aim : By improving your aim, you add to your
implications or target effort directed toward attaining your
intention.
4. Gain your objective : Create a clear objective by aiming for
something tangible and immediately attainable.
5. Reach your goal : The goal is the result of your intention, put
into action and attaining it by thought out effort and un-waiving
focus.
You have now created your sacred space. Bring to it what you want. Use it for what it is and allow it to remain sacred.

Domestic Tranquility: Snow Days
It was fairly late and we were sitting on the couch awaiting the fourth northeaster of the month.
I looked over at Tasha. “Could be the big one. Maybe a knockout punch this time.”
She smiled. “You do worry about silly things.”
I shrugged. “You and I both know that Mother Nature’s pretty ticked off at the inhabitants of her planet.”
She nodded. “You mean global warming.”
I sighed. “Can’t call it that anymore. Haven’t you heard it’s been kicked out of the dictionary. Some members of Congress even insist it doesn’t exist.”
Shaking her head, she frowned. “I hope people will continue to take the environment seriously.”
I nodded. “So what’s next?”
She sighed. “When there’s nothing much we can do, we’d best be satisfied with what we have done.”
“Is that you or are you quoting an eminent sage from history?”
She laughed and straightened up some magazines on the coffee table. “Really what can we do that hasn’t been done: recycling, water conservation, emphasize electric cars and alternative energy. But I agree with you, we must continue to do what we can individually at least.”
“Maybe its time for many more people especially younger ones to strongly consider getting off the grid.”
Was the wind listening? With a loud whump it blew hard against our building. The lights flickered and the alarms on our PC’s beeped.
“Wow, that was loud,” Tasha shivered and pulled her shawl around her shoulders. “I’m glad we shopped and stocked up. At least if we’re snowed in we’ll have plenty to eat.”
I started tidying up my collage cuttings. “Unless the power fails. Remember years ago when we were without power for close to a week?”
She looked thoughtful. “Was it that long? I guess after a while it’s better to adapt than fight city hall. Especially if they’re without power too.”
I slid papers into several manila envelopes. “Think about Puerto Rico. Even after all this time many parts of it are still to this day without power.”
She stood and headed to the kitchen. “I never understood why the UN didn’t implement emergency assistance and provide additional support.”
The wind shrieked, spits of sleet crackled against the windows. Suddenly it felt colder.
She stopped and turned. “I’m pushing up the heat.”
“Good idea.”
Then she looked at me seriously. “Please affirm with me that we won’t lose power and this storm will go away and be forgotten.”
I nodded in agreement. “And we can celebrate a snow day.”
She brought over the mugs from supper and the teapot. “What do you mean.”
I poured the rest of the tea from supper. “Well when I was a kid snow days were special. Once they were announced I could roll over and go back to sleep instead of having to get up and go to school.”
She laughed. “Would you like some chocolate chip cookies?” She stood up and headed for the pantry shelves.
“Yes, thank you. “Of course in Providence it didn’t take a lot to call a snow day. Once it even got sunny by two in the afternoon. As I recall that caused a revision of the snow day policy New rules and regulations were passed.”
“I hardly ever got a snow day,” she said. She handed me a cookie and sat down beside me. “I’m glad you checked the batteries in the flashlights and the lantern. I just hope we don’t have to use them.”
A police siren wailed outside. Fire engines screeched by and an ambulance, then silence. Outside there were winds, snow and cold but for now we were warm and safe. I yawned. “At least we can sleep in tomorrow.”
She looked confused. “But why? It’s not the weekend.”
“Because it’s a snow day. Kids get a day off; they don’t have to go to school. Too icy and dangerous to drive.
She smiled at me. “But that shouldn’t matter as far as we’re concerned. It’s a weekday and I for one have things to do like laundry.” Her practicality had suddenly emerged.
I shrugged and looked at her searchingly. “I understand your feelings, only I wish you could see it as special and ignore your usual dutifulness.”
She nodded, “Okay, if a snow day is as special as you make it out to be then I feel we should do something of significance.”
I smiled. “Absolutely, sleep in, then read “even watch a movie.”
She shook her head. “I was thinking more along the lines of cleaning out the shelves in the pantry. I’ve been meaning to get to that for so long a time.”
“You want to spend the day tomorrow cleaning out the shelves in the pantry?”
She nodded hopefully. I suppose if you want to sleep in I can do it after we get up.”
I sighed and shook my head. “I suppose then I had better help you.”
Her voice softened. “It’s all right I wouldn’t want to keep you from recreating your boyhood and lazing around all day. You can get up when you want but I’m taking advantage of this special time here at home to get things done.”
“But Tasha, that defeats the purpose of a snow day, at least for me.”
“I told you its perfectly fine for you to do nothing.”
I looked at her. “To me a snow day is like a day off and emphasizes hibernation, a time to ponder and search inward.
She nodded in agreement. “That’s fine once the shelves are tidied. But I assume you’d feel good knowing you’ve accomplished something difficult rather than just sitting around reading.”
This conversation was not going the way I had hoped. “Ok but all bets are off if we lose power. That way there’ll be no hot water so you can’t clean the shelves properly.”
Her expression changed. “I suppose.”
“Wouldn’t you love feeling free from routine, able to just have a day off?”
“I can’t really say. I think the idea of a day off like that for a woman is very different than for a man.”
Trying not to sound ministerial I said, “We’d live a lot longer. Longevity especially endows those who rest.”
She laughed. “Let’s see what’s happening in the morning. For all you know it could be bright and sunny and we’ll spend the day as we had hoped.”
“Going to the writer’s group, picking up some eggs at the market, maybe stopping at Trader Joe’s?”
She smiled. “But I do hope you’ll get behind helping me clean up the pantry before it warms up and the bugs decide to enjoy our crumbs.”
“Oh I’ll be glad to help you. But just not tomorrow. Not when Mother Nature’s sending us a clear message to relax, let go and appreciate our free time together.” A soft pelting of snow against the window seemed to punctuate what I was saying.

Silliness

Giving yourself permission to be silly will nourish your creativity, and is a good exercise in letting go.
Children appreciate all that is silly as a matter of course. Their grasp of humor is instinctual, and even the smallest absurdities provoke joyous gales of earnest laughter. As we age, this innate ability to see the value of silliness can diminish. Work takes precedence over play, and we have less incentive to exercise our imaginative minds by focusing on what is humorous. When we remember childhood, we may recall the pleasures of donning funny costumes, reciting nonsense poems, making up strange games, or playing pretend. This unabashed silliness nourished our vitality and creativity. We can take in this nourishment once again by giving ourselves permission to lighten up and be silly.
Too often we reject the wonderful silliness that is an inherent, inborn aspect of the self because we believe that it serves no purpose or is at odds with the grown-up culture of maturity. We play yet we do not lose ourselves in play, and our imaginations are never truly given free reign because we regard the products of irrational creativity as being valueless. Yet silliness itself does indeed constitute a vital part of human existence on a myriad of levels. Our first taste of ethereal bliss is often a consequence of our willingness to dabble in what we deem outrageous, nonsensical, or absurd. We delight in ridiculousness not only because laughter is intrinsically pleasurable, but also because it serves as a reminder that existence itself is fun. Skipping, doodling, and singing funny songs are no less entertaining than they were when we were children. We need not lose all interest in these cheerful and amusing activities, but to make them a part of our lives we must be ready to sacrifice a little dignity and a lot of fear.
It is precisely because so much of life is inescapably serious that silliness should be regarded as a priority. Through the magic of imagination, you can be or become anything–a photographer, a professional athlete, a dancer, a pilot. Whether you take hundreds of silly pictures, revel in the adulation of your fans as you make the winning catch, boogie down rock-star style in front of your bedroom mirror, or turn your desk into a cockpit, the ensuing hilarity will help you see that lighthearted fun and adulthood are not at all incompatible.
