Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Llewellyn’s Spell a Day
Re-energize Yourself
Spell Date: Sunday, November 4, 2018

When daylight saving time ends, we gain an extra hour. This is a great time to recharge yourself and regain energy during the dark part of the year.

If you are able to go outside, you may want to sit directly on the ground. However, if you cannot, you could bring some earth into your home in an altar bowl. Create sacred space around the area you are working in. Touch the earth and connect with the energies within it. Draw those energies into you as you take a deep breath. Continue until you feel fully energized, as doing so will help you through the rest of the year.

Shoe Sachet for Safe Travels
Spell Date: Saturday, November 3, 2018

It’s holiday time—which means traveling, be it journeys to visit family, shopping trips, or just being outdoors and enjoying the sights and sounds and scents of the season. With so many people out and about, a travel talisman is in order. Back when folks traveled mainly on foot, it was customary to pop a few herbs into one’s boots to ensure a safe journey.

Make a sachet to slip into your shoes (when you’re not wearing them) to freshen them up and charge them with travel-friendly energy. Mix together equal amounts of mugwort (to prevent weariness), comfrey (for safety and protection), and mint (refreshing and hospitable), with this incantation:

“Near and far,
By foot or car,
Keep me safe where I go.
I will it be so!”

Place the mixture in black ( protective) pouches and tuck them into your shoes—just remember to take them out before wearing!

All Souls Day Cemetery Visit
Spell Date: Friday, November 2, 2018

Today the celebrations of our beloved dead continue! Today is All Souls Day in Catholic traditions, and the day also holds celebrations of the Mexican Dia de los Muertos! I invite you to join me in a favorite activity of mine for this day: cemetery visits. Many traditional celebrations involve honoring your own relatives, and you certainly may visit their graves if they are nearby; however, many of us do not live near the graves of our relatives. In this case, visiting local cemeteries still honors the spirits of those who came before you where you live, ancestors of the land, if you will.

I like to stroll the graveyard, clean off any obscured stones or toppled decorations, and leave offerings about the grounds, especially at the gates. Tobacco, apples, and corn make nice offerings. Honoring those different from you also shows respect for diversity to those beyond the veil.

Past Life Spell
Spell Date: Thursday, November 1, 2018

Sometimes our past-life baggage can trip us up and cause problems in our current life. Often, healing these energy patterns can become our life’s purpose.

For this spell, inscribe one black candle for your patron god and one for your matron goddess. Cast your circle and call the quarters in your usual way, and then say:

“I am here to learn about the energies
from my past lives that still need
healing. I am open to learning about
who and what I was. Please, Lord and
Lady, give clarity to my meditation.”

Make yourself comfortable and visualize your spirit backing out of your body and drifting backward until you find yourself in another body—your body in a past life that has significance to the life you’re living today. Stay open to the lessons your gods present for you to learn, and allow time and space for the meditation.

Once you’ve risen from the work, jot down any relevant things you saw or heard. Going forward, work to heal those energies.

Pumpkin Ancestor Altar
Spell Date: Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Samhain is a time for remembering and honoring our loved ones who have passed. Create an ancestor altar using Halloween’s favorite fruit: pumpkins.

Cut your pumpkin as if you were making a jack-o’-lantern. Scoop out the seeds, then wash and dry them. Instead of creating a face on the pumpkin, carve your ancestors’ names or initials into the flesh, speaking them aloud as you work. You can also paint the names or initials on the pumpkin. If you go this route, drill small holes into the pumpkin so that it still acts as a lantern.

Dry out the pumpkin as best you can, then put the seeds back in with this blessing:

“Dearly departed
But always present,
Bless what’s inside
With your presence.”

Place a tealight on top of the seeds and put the pumpkin outside to light up the night until the candle goes out. The next day, take out the seeds and save them to plant next year.

Samhain Protection Cider
Spell Date: Tuesday, October 30, 2018

Use your kitchen witchery skills to whip up this lovely hot drink to protect you through the Samhain season. You will need:

1 gallon apple cider
3 cloves
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon nutmeg
4 slices of lemon

Pour the cider into a pot on the stove (or into a slow cooker). Add the spices one by one, stirring constantly as you do. Focus your intention or protection into the cider. As you add each item, say:

“Bless this (name of ingredient).
Protect my family and myself.”

After the spices are all added, lay the lemon slices on top (say the same phrase) and allow the cider to simmer for ten minutes. Pour a cup for everyone and envision protection as you sip away at this tasty treat.

National Cat Day
Spell Date: Monday, October 29, 2018

Cat lovers, rejoice: it’s National Cat Day! Today, bless your own cat(s) and/or the cats of the world with the following spell.

Assemble a simple altar with a statue or image of the cat goddess Bast and a clear quartz crystal. If you have cats, add an image of each one. Anoint the Bast image and the image of your cat(s) with essential oil of myrrh. Say:

“Cats close to home and cats of the
earth, I honor your presence, I honor
your worth. As you bless our planet
with beauty and grace, may all cats
be healthy and happily placed.”

If you have a cat or cats, spend some quality time with them. Maybe play with them, pet or brush them, offer them some catnip, or give them a treat. Also consider making a donation to a local cat shelter or even fostering cats or kittens who need a home.

Heartwings Love Notes 852 Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Heartwings says, “Time is a strange accordion that plays a familiar tune.”

Yesterday the maple tree outside my bedroom window gleamed bright gold. It shone in the sun; its leaves had turned brilliant in the night. I observed it with joy in my heart. Then the wind began to blow quite hard, and the leaves began to shake and then to fall, littering the ground with their brilliance. Next week I have a birthday, and I began to think how my years have over time, like those leaves, fallen and been swept away.

I have no regrets-well, maybe a few small ones but none of significance. What seems so odd to me is how the years that have passed have somehow dwindled and shrunk in my mind. It seems only yesterday that I was celebrating my 30th birthday. My family was young and so was I. So much has changed since; so many people I knew and loved have gone on to live their lives far away from me, or have passed on into another one. Like the leaves of the maple tree, these dear ones shine in my memory.

Time as perceived by the mind is subjective. Time as reflected in the pages of the calendar is implacable. In my conversations with others I no longer number my years because people look at me and say, “I had no idea you were that old.” While this is a compliment, it is also followed by a change in attitude which implies there is something frail and delicate about me because of my age. My late mother used to say, “You should be proud to tell people.” However as the saying goes, “pride goeth before the fall,” and I’d rather this didn’t happen.

Today as I look out at the Maple tree, I see that there are still leaves left for the sun to shine through. As I look forward to tomorrow, I feel sure that I have many years left to enjoy and find ways to be useful. While much has changed for me as well as with me since that 30th birthday, like the tree outside my window I am still growing and hope to do so for all the time I have left. I cherish the years that have been, appreciate those that are, and look forward to the ones to come with joy and anticipation.

May you find much to appreciate in your life now and much to look forward to.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

PS How do you celebrate your birthday? I hope you find fun ways to do so. If you wish to, please share your thoughts on birthdays. I so appreciate your emails and always hope to hear from you.

November’s Full Moon
by MoonGiant

With the changing of the seasons, November’s Full Moon marks the beginning of the end. This year, it is the very last full moon before the winter solstice, which makes it the Mourning Moon according to Pagan tradition. In many different cultures, November’s full moon is intimately connected with death and loss, on both a literal and symbolic level.

The Celts, for instance, called it the Reed Moon, comparing the mournful music made by wind instruments to the ghoulish sounds of spirits being drawn into the underworld. And not without good reason – the Full Mourning Moon marks a dangerous time of the year where people could easily slip into the underworld with a single misstep.

We may enjoy the luxury of winter coats and central heating now, but freezing to death during the long, dark winters used to be a very real threat to early inhabitants of Northern America. In order to survive, making warm winter clothing out of beaver fur was crucial for American colonists and Native American tribes. This is why November’s full moon is also known as the Beaver Moon. During this month, beavers are very active, working hard on dam construction, and so this was a good time to start harvesting their fur.

Missing the timing for this would mean death for these early Northern American communities, as the rivers would freeze over, making it impossible to set out traps. Many Native American tribes, incuding the Cree, Arapaho, and Abenaki tribes, called November’s full moon the “Moon When Rivers Start to Freeze”. This name drives home the importance of November’s full moon as a signal for these Native American tribes to begin trapping beavers before it was too late, as well as to complete their preparations for the darkest depths of winter.

For the Pagans, on the other hand, the final stage of their winter preparations involve the very important process of “mourning” – which is why they call the last moon before the winter solstice the Mourning Moon. After a full year of accumulating posessions, both physically and otherwise, the Mourning Moon is the perfect time to let go of old, unnecessary things, while giving yourself permission to mourn their passing. Practicing Pagans may perform a moonlit ritual where they write down the things they want to rid themselves of, and ask their Goddess for help in removing unwanted burdens.

Pagan traditions aside, anyone can benefit from taking the time to self-reflect and to let go. Take advantage of the Full Mourning Moon this November to look back on your year and take stock of your desires, your ambitions, your mental and behavioral habits, and the people you spend your energy on. Clean your living and work spaces, and sort out the physical objects that are not contributing to your well-being. Take the time to fully mourn and let go of anything – or anyone – that does not bring you joy, so that you can begin to move forward, unfettered, towards a lighter and happier new year.

What crystal protects from negative energy?
by Candy Smith

Protecting your Aura

Whenever you are around other people, you are exposing yourself to their subtle energies .
Most of the time, these energies are positive, and will therefore have a positive, or perhaps even beneficial, effect on your own subtle energies.
However, there are times when people energies, such as negative thoughts and emotions, can be toxic to your own.

Negative energies from the people around you can be harmful to your aura, which in turn can cause damage to any or all of your subtle “bodies” (i.e., emotional body, mental body, spiritual body) as well as your physical body, all of which are contained within the aura.

Fortunately, stones and crystals can be used to protect the aura from any harm that can come as a result of these negative energies.

The following stones are very good to use for auric health and protection in general:

Amber: aligns the subtle bodies with the physical body. Releases negative energy.

Amethyst: heals holes in the aura, cleanses it, draws in divine energy to protect the aura.

Apache Tear: protects the aura and prevents it from absorbing negative energies from any source, but especially the negativity of other people.

Bloodstone: cleanses the aura.

Carnelian: repairs the aura.

Citrine: cleanses and aligns the aura.

Jet: protects against other’s negative thoughts.

Magnetite: strengthens the aura.

Quartz: cleanses, protects, and strengthens the aura. Seals auric tears.

Smoky Quartz: grounds energy and removes negative energy from the aura.

Green Tourmaline: heals auric tears.

The easiest way to use stones for protection is to simply carry your chosen protection stone on your person.
For protection of any kind (physical, emotional, auric, etc.), it is often recommended that the stone or crystal be placed in the left pocket, though I don’t feel that this is necessary.
A stone talisman may also be carried for protection.

Many blessings!
Candy Smith

Healing Childhood Wounds
By Madisyn Taylor

We all have the ability to heal ourselves from childhood pain at the deepest level.

Events from childhood, our first experiences, have the power to shape our lives. Some do so immediately, offering us challenges to overcome and encouragement to make use of our talents and interests. In the process character is built, and we make the first steps upon our personal paths. Other events seem to lay dormant until adulthood, when our closest relationships help to bring out the deepest aspects of ourselves. This is when unexamined lessons can be put to use and untended childhood wounds make themselves known in a call for healing.

We may discover issues of trust coming up, or perhaps we find ourselves mirroring actions from our past instinctively. No matter the case, we have the power within us to heal ourselves at the deepest level. With the wisdom of an adult, we can be the loving parent or guardian we needed as a child. Knowing that we are each whole spiritual beings having a human experience, we can nurture ourselves from that wholeness, and then reach out to others as well. We can recreate scenarios in our mind’s eye, trying different outcomes and following them to their logical conclusions. In doing so, we may be able to imagine possible reasons a situation occurred as it did, and even accept that it could not have happened any other way. With the wisdom born from age and experience, we might be able to see events from a different perspective, bringing new understanding and freeing ourselves from any hold the past may have on us.

Life offers opportunities to clear these weeds in the gardens of our souls. However, when we want to focus on easier and more pleasant tasks, we are likely to pass up the chances, leaving the wounds to continue to drain our energy and resources for living life fully today. We might find we need support to face the events of the past, so turning to a trained professional who can offer tools for healing can be a valid choice. As long as we remember that the child we were lives on within us, we are always free to go back and right old wrongs, correct mistaken perceptions, heal wounds, forgive, and begin anew.

Dragon Witch does not have to be from any specific tradition although they walk to the beat of their own drum. The Dragon Witch, is a Witch dedicated to the Draconic path using Draconic energy. This path is a very old path. You could even say Dragon Witch is a Dragon Sorceress, or Priestess or Priest. Some are solitary other work in clans, or covens.
Now the code of honor this version is from Wicca Dreamers

1: Loyalty:
The number one rule.
Definition of Loyalty:
Loyalty is Faithfulness or a Devotion to a person, country, group, or cause.
Josiah Royce in his 1908 book The Philosophy of Loyalty presented a different definition of the concept. According to Royce, loyalty is a virtue, indeed a primary virtue, “the heart of all the virtues, the central duty amongst all the duties”. Royce presents loyalty, which he defines at length, as the basic moral principle from which all other principles can be derived. The short definition that he gives of the idea is that loyalty is “the willing and practical and thoroughgoing devotion of a person to a cause”. Loyalty is thoroughgoing in that it is not merely a casual interest but a wholehearted commitment to a cause.
This includes Loyalty to Yourself, to your Family, to your Clan…as well as to Nature.
This includes all the Creatures of Nature. That means… Animals, Plants, Trees, and even Rocks, as well as the Nature Spirits which surround us.
For any of you who walk a Fae path (Faerie Magick) You will already understand how the Fae react to Human Kind. Well, Dragons are a large part of the faerie Realm, indeed they are the Guardians and Gatekeepers. When you first start working with the Faeries it can take quite a bit of work to encourage them to work with you. Offerings must be left. You must prove your different from almost the entire human race, in that you are Loyal, Honest, Courageous and Most Of All, you must prove that you are Awake, a Child of Light, Aware of Reality. Because the Fae do not work with anyone who is closed-off and Mundane…and Neither do the Dragons.

Honesty is a very important part of the Code
2: Honesty:
Definition of Honesty:
Honesty refers to a facet of moral character and connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, and straightforwardness, including straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Furthermore, honesty means being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere.
Be honest with yourself and others and let them know you will not accept anything but honesty in return. You should always be above reproach or criticism in the eyes of the world.
Sometimes this can be a very hard step to adhere to. There are so many facets in our lives where the need to lie is automatic. Take for instance… someone close to you cooks you a meal, and it’s horrible. Or they make a craft project that looks like a giant turd… Or your boss asks you how they look in a certain outfit… These are all valid reasons for a little white lie…
We often Lie to ourselves as well, and for equally valid reasons…say someone hurts your feelings, many people make excuses for their children (I know I have) and basically lie to themselves “Oh, he didn’t mean it, he was just mad”
I’m sure there are millions of reasons that we lie to ourselves.
And then there are those of us who lie to cover something up…
Or lie to protect themselves…
There’s a million reasons why we lie to others for nefarious reasons.
Being Honest with ourselves is often the hardest part to enforce. They say this is the hardest step for any practitioner to take. But it is a necessary step for those who wish to work with Dragons. Most Dragons value a person’s Honesty above all else… They say that an Honest person is hard to find, and once found should be nurtured and guarded…
Always remember that the fury and excitement of the moment can play havoc with the truth. To keep one’s head in any situation is a virtue.

Beautiful pic of Knight & Dragon
3: Courageous:
Definition of Courageous:
The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.
Fearlessness, dauntlessness, intrepidity, pluck, spirit. Courage, bravery, valor, bravado refer to qualities of spirit and conduct. Courage permits one to face extreme dangers and difficulties without fear: to take (or lose ) courage. Bravery implies true courage with daring and an intrepid boldness: bravery in a battle. Valor implies heroic courage: valor in fighting for the right. Bravado: is a pretentious, swaggering display of courage.
Try always to be prepared for whatever the future may bring. Life with all of its joys, sorrows, and secrets is to be embraced and experienced to the fullest, You must have the Courage to face your life headon. The virtue of Courage is evident in all aspects of the Draconic Practitioner’s life.
Knowing when to stand-up and when to stand-down is very important to maintaining this step.
Sometimes walking away from conflict can be the hardest (and yet most courageous) step to take.
You must be able to face your fears, whatever they are, and overcome them. This can be anything from a fear of heights, to a fear of spiders or clowns.
~My Personal Fear was clowns. Over the course of the last few years I overcame this fear, and now Evil Clowns are among my fiercest of guardians ~

A Total Physical & Spiritual Awakening
4: Being Awake:
Definition of Being Awake:
Wakefulness, the state of being conscious.
Wakefulness is a daily recurring brain state and state of consciousness in which an individual is conscious and engages in coherent cognitive and behavioral response to the external world such as communication, ambulation, eating, and sex. Being awake is the opposite of the state of being asleep in which most external inputs to the brain are excluded from neural processing.
Think about that for a moment…
Being conscious…
Engaging and Reacting to External Stimuli…
Coherent Cognitive and Behavioral Responses…
It is very easy for people to shut down and rely on an inner autopilot to cruise through their daily lives. Especially if you have a boring job, a routine homelife and nothing to break up your mundane life.
Being Awake within your everyday life is part of Being Awake…
You must shut the autopilot off… it’s as simple as that.
The past is behind us.
The Future is ahead of us.
This Moment, This is happening NOW.
But, what we are really talking about here is more of a Spiritual Awakening.
Definition of Spiritual Awakening:
A spiritual awakening usually involves a realization or opening to a sacred dimension of reality and may or may not be a religious experience. Often a spiritual awakening has lasting effects upon one’s life. The term “spiritual awakening” may be used to refer to any of a wide range of experiences including being born again, near-death experiences, and mystical experiences such as liberation and enlightenment.
More and more people are awakening spiritually and are longing for more than is available in the material world.
This list has been gathered through my own experiences, in addition to other sources.
Check and see which of these you recognize or are currently experiencing:
o An increase in occurrences – (there aren’t any coincidences) An increase in psychic, mediumistic, clairvoyant, and intuitive skills, and the ability to recognize these occurrences.
o Acute sensitivity to negative energy around specific people or environments. This is an ability that many people who are draw to a magickal path already possess, if not it soon becomes natural to practitioners of the craft.
o A desire to “find yourself”, change your social group, behavior, job etc. Sudden extreme sensitivity to people or crowds. You may find that your once sociable nature suddenly disappears and you simply cannot bear to be with certain friends, family members, colleagues, or coworkers.
o Sudden awareness of recurring patterns or relationships- A noticeable inability to tolerate someone with whom you have had a previously close relationship.
o Sudden inexplicable panic or anxiety attacks occurring at any time with no valid reason. A feeling that something has changed within you.
o Acute sensitivity to shopping malls or crowded environments such as restaurants, clubs, festivals, and so on.
o Extreme sensitivity to mobile and digital phones, laptops, computers, wireless routers, and all microwave technology, as well as certain types of lighting. Electricity flows through the air and disrupts natural energy patterns.
o Zoning out for long periods of time with an overpowering need to sit and do nothing. (This often occurs as a result of our consciousness spending increasing amounts of time in the fourth and fifth dimensions.)
o Changes in your energy levels-The need to rest and sleep for much longer than usual or sudden insomnia in normally sound sleepers.
o Falling asleep and then waking in the middle of the night at or around the same time, feeling wide awake and needing to be up, and oddly not being tired the next day as expected. This is a sign of your consciousness adapting to new cycles of activity. Becoming more aware of the Fae Realms causes this as well.
o Strange electrical energy coursing through the body or body parts like legs or arms. (This is caused by the raised awareness of Universal Energies which flow through Everything. These energies assist in the process of rewiring the physical and Light-Body in order to carry higher vibrating energies.)
o A whole range of physical experiences caused by detoxification as the body continues to release years of physical, karmic, emotional, and mental toxic waste, producing symptoms including: fatigue and exhaustion; excess thirst; stomach upsets, including cramps, headaches, especially at the base of the skull and migraines with pains over the crown and in one or both eyes; muscle, neck, and shoulder pains.
o Dizziness, balance problems, and feeling spacey (triggered by being in higher states of consciousness).
o Shaking.
o Increased appetite, either putting on weight, maintaining it or losing it no matter how much or little you eat. (This is because the body needs huge amounts of fuel for the process of shifting from the third to fifth dimensional frequency.)
o Sudden cravings for foods and beverages you have not wanted or eaten for years or since childhood. (This helps us to release memories of stored trauma, or connects us to a pleasant memory which creates a momentary shift in our consciousness to enable a release to take place.)

. A Stronger Connection to Nature,
. Quicker Manifestations
. A Change in what you read, watch on TV, hobbies

You should closely scrutinize the things that happen in your life over the next 30 days or so. Being Awake and in the Moment will aid you immensely in this process.
There are 3 stages to Spiritual Awakening, these stages or experiences create a defined change in the consciousness of the practitioner. Each of these stages can happen over time or with their own small spiritual awakening. It is a process that evolves over time.

Draconic Practices
Very few people in the world today follow the true Draconic or Draconian Tradition. It is not that it has nearly become extinct, but that generally when it is taught, it is orally from teacher to pupil. Rarely is anything written down, it was chosen to change this aspect so that it would not be lost altogether.
I think this path was created out of both human and dragon necessity to connect and interact. Whether you believe dragons to be mere thought-forms or you feel them to real, living creatures – the desire for them to make a connection with us is the same.
The teachings of the Draconic Tradition can be used, as its own tradition or an additive to an existing one. If it is used in conjunction with other Traditions you should never place other deities above dragons, or expect the dragons to be subservient to your patron gods. The dragons should be treated with the same respect that you grant to Deity, this means that you give the dragons the same level of honor that you give to your God(s). There are many deities who are dragons or have draconic forms; you may work with them as well as other dragons and deities.
Unlike other traditions those who are solely Dragon Magick practitioners don’t refer to a group of practitioners as a Coven or an Order. They refer to it as a Clan. As such, a Clan is basically the family that you choose; instead of being related by blood you are related through the dragons. Some practitioners combine terms as well, some Wiccans work in Clan-Covens and I have also seen Clan-Groves and Clan-Circles.

What is Dragon Magick?

The simplest definition of Dragon Magick or Draconic Magick is the calling upon of Dragons to aid you in your magical workings. There are some schools of thought that say that Dragon Magick must be kept strictly as High or Ceremonial Magick, but that is not the case. Dragon magick can and does work within any magical system. It can be practiced as its own Tradition or in conjunction with another magical tradition. Dragons can help to empower your rituals no matter what tradition you practice.
Some do not believe that there is only one way to work with Dragons. You will find these graceful beings in almost every magical system throughout the world, where they are usually deified or vilified. Each system looks at dragons in a different way and helps us to learn about different facets of their personalities. There are some who see them only as elemental energies without independent existence; while others seem them as symbols of that energy and having no true existence at all. Some believe that Dragons are astral beings, having form and existence but they do not have the ability to manifest on the physical plane that we live in. Their bodies are made of energy, but the will and personalities that we connect with are very real and independent of us.

Dragons do not only exist when we call upon them. They do not wait, suspended in time, until we remember to invoke them. Just as we do not live only in ritual, the dragons that we work with will have other things to do and their own lives to lead. What may be convenient for you may not be for them. As astral beings time may flow differently for them, but they are in no way bound to our wills nor must they obey our commands. In fact, that is a sure way to drive them off and possibly suffer backlash from such an action.

Some call any magical practice with Dragons is to “Dance with Dragons”, but they can be more then just a dance partner. As teachers of ancient knowledge their grasp of it is deep and profound. Their ability to help in divination is astonishing and quite accurate. As protectors during rituals and everyday life there are no equals. And if a Dragon chooses to take you under their wings you will have the opportunity of learning knowledge and evolving your magical ability, which few have done.

A lifelong practice with Dragons can form a bonding companionship with them and they can become the best companions you could ever have. Although this companionship can seem extremely demanding, at times, it is always in your best interests. This companionship and practice with Dragons is never boring. If it is practiced daily it can be a joyful addition to your life not to mention the benefit that both species gain in their evolution and spiritual growth. The more that you seek them out, work with them, and earn their trust the more Dragons will be encouraged to once again have a closer, positive relationship with humans in general like they did in old times.

Dragon Magick is not for everyone. Those that choose to practice it must be self-disciplined individuals who are serious about changing things in their lives and the world around them. You must be willing to have beings be brutally honest with you and be willing to turn that same honesty upon yourself. Working with dragons is a hard path, but ultimately rewarding.

On old maps, mapmakers would use the picture of a Dragon with writing under it saying, “Here There Be Dragons” denoting unexplored regions of our world that had unknown dangers. Dragon Magick opens up the unknown mental and psychic realms to us, showing us where the dragons lie. The ones who are true explorers of the unknown and seekers of knowledge will be challenged, not frightened, by these signs and forge on ahead in their continuing search for knowledge. They will undertake and create friendships and partnerships with these powerfully great beings, known as Dragons.

Dragon Magick is Not Wicca

There is often a general misconception when beginning in dragon magick that it is a Wiccan tradition. It is not. Dragon magick does not require that you follow the Rede, nor does it say that you cannot work harm. The only ethics in it are the ones of your clan and Draconic Codes of Honor. In fact there are many clans who only use the Draconic Codes.

Dragon magick does not have any special holidays that its practitioners must follow. As you find companion dragons to work with, they may inform you of feast-days of holy-days that they wish you follow. When or if, this happens you may either practice these days in conjunction with your current path or you may celebrate them as separate entities. Dragons do not require elaborate rituals for their celebrations; however they understand that humans often need such trapping and are accepting of it. It is not an offense to try to celebrate with a dragon, just keep in mind that you may also choose to meditate quietly and that will also be accepted.

There is no monthly or yearly cycle that must be followed in dragon magick. Working with dragons is exactly that, you are forming a bond and a relationship with them. There is no special language or writing system that you must learn to communicate with them. You must work at opening yourself psychically to them and feeling out how to best deal with them.

It helps to have at least some training in another magical system before beginning dragon magick. Many of the ideas and knowledge in paganism translates over into dragon magick. If you don’t follow a pagan path, learning about one will be useful. If the path you currently follow doesn’t allow you to also follow a pagan one, you’ll have to decide if you can honestly follow the Draconic Tradition. If you can, you may have a harder time with some of the concepts but you still can become a skilled practitioner.

This does not mean that you cannot practice Wicca and dragon magick together; in fact they are a highly effective team. However, too many people make the mistake of equating the two which is erroneous. Dragon magick is about working in harmony, be it with a spiritual path or dragons, not about domination.

Stephen Halpert
The Urban Rider, 1

“You’re at that age.” Dr. C smiled as he concluded Howard’s annual checkup.
Howard looked concerned. He ran his hand through his grey hair. Though thinning, it was still plentiful. “What does that mean: Stroke? Diabetes? Heart attack?”
“Now don’t go thinking that way,” Dr. C.’s kindly face creased in a smile. “Many men slightly overweight like you in their fifties ride through their midlife crises and remain just fine.”
He paused and tilted his head. “Possibly you might discover a craving for hot food or something entirely new–a taste for sushi or even dancing girls. The way a man’s mind works at that age is anyone’s guess.”
Howard wrinkled his prominent nose. “Raw fish is too risky and I’m certainly not the type for dancing girls. I never even learned the box step.”
His physician nodded. “Then you’ve no need to be concerned. Maybe you had a boyhood dream that never quite came true?”
“I’m always concerned. It’s my nature. I come by it honestly. My parents worried constantly. Just about every week each predicted new scenarios for the end of the world.”
“And they both lived a long life?”
“Absolutely!” He said proudly. “My late mother always said her ability to worry kept her young. My late father had this uncanny way of knowing exactly when something disastrous was about to happen. It might have been on the other side of the planet, but he’d know.”
“In that case,” Dr. C said. “I suggest you consider something new, something you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t gotten around to as yet.”
“That sounds extravagant to me, especially in today’s economy, but we’ll see.” He dressed, signed the necessary insurance forms, thanked Dr. C and drove cautiously home.
His wife Ella hugged him. “Anything I should know from your physical?”
“Dr. C told me I could have a mid life crisis. He said fifty’s the decade for stuff like that to happen.”
She cut him a slice of pie. “Did he have any suggestions?”
Howard smiled. “Sushi or dancing girls.”
“That’s not funny.”
“Just kidding. This pie’s delicious.”
“Thank you.”
He noticed her slice of pie was miniscule. How she got away with eating like a bird was beyond him. He admired her girlish figure, bright blue eyes, and wonderfully high cheekbones. Silently he praised her personal trainer. “What he really told me was, most men try something new,” he said with a smile.
She frowned. “Like what? Another woman?”
He grinned. “I was thinking of a motorcycle.”
She looked at him oddly. “Oh how wonderful. Men get to buy motorcycles. Women have to be content with their hot flashes.”
“Oh Ella,” he began. “We could both get one. Then we could climb on our choppers and drive down life’s highway into the sunset.”
But Ella only sighed. “I don’t think so. Not in this lifetime.” She took a second meager slither of pie. She pursed her lips. “But you go ahead. Don’t pay any attention to me. What do I know! Of course you might kill yourself or end up crashing into a wall and spending the rest of your life in a wheel chair, but who am I to stand in your way?”
His face fell. “Never mind!” He frowned. “Maybe I’ll start collecting stamps.” He stood abruptly and left the room.
The next day he read in the newspaper about an experimental self-driving vehicle that worked by verbal commands and operated via a new technology free from gasoline, oil or even atomic energy.
He called for an appointment and the next day he visited the showroom.
The salesman greeted him at the showroom door. “Welcome, sir. He pointed to the shiny motorcycle prominent in the center. “This is our Urban Rider,” he said with a proud smile.
“The ad said it ran by voice commands alone.” Howard said
“Not exactly,” the sales person said. “You use a combination of voice commands and your own mind power.”
“That sounds extraordinary,” Howard said. “Don’t tell me it’s operated by some sort of alien force from a distant planet!”
The sales person smiled but neither affirmed nor denied Howard’s query. Instead he led him through the showroom and stood proudly by as Howard gazed at the Urban Rider. It appeared to be a rather fancy motorcycle with a microphone attached to the complex computer dashboard.
“It is a self-driving robotic vehicle directed by the power of your voice and your mind. All that is really essential is clear thinking. But climb on, take a test drive and see how it feels to you.”
Howard got onto the bright, padded red leather seat, patted the sleek decorative cushion and felt like King Arthur surveying Camelot.
“Enjoy,” the salesman said.
“But I’ve never driven anything like this. I grew up driving a second hand Ford.”
“That’s what’s so wonderful about the Urban Rider. It does the driving for you. It’s all programmed through its computer. Just put on the helmet.”
“Robotic?”
The salesman forehead wrinkled. “It’s too incredible to even try to explain. You have to participate to understand.”
“Really! And you say it drives itself?”
“Sure does. And you’re in constant communication. Just put on the helmet and experience advanced 21st century transport.”
“One more thing,” the salesman said, “Do you want the voice of your android copilot to be male or female?”
“Oh, female I guess.”
The salesman twiddled a dial. “Hello Howard,” said an ultra feminine voice. “I know we’re going to have lots of fun.” The Urban Rider began driving itself out of the showroom and onto a side street.
Nervously, he clutched the handlebars, but they didn’t respond. How do I steer?”
“Unnecessary,” she said. “Relax and enjoy.” He had no ideas how fast he was moving or where he was being taken. He had intended to drive around in the parking lot but the Urban Rider had other plans. Moments later he was effortlessly lifted through the city traffic.
` “Slow down,” he pleaded.
He heard a throaty laugh. “You’re with me,” her voice was reassuring. “Stop trying to control everything and relax. Let your mind power work without your being intrusive.”
“Stop!” Howard cried. “I mean it.”
The world flew past him; fortunately there were few cars on the highway. The Urban Rider surged up a steep slope and came to a halt. Howard looked around but nothing nearby seemed familiar. He had no idea where he was.
Then as abruptly as it had stopped, the Urban Rider resumed and lifted upwards giving him the sense that he was in a high speed elevator.
It slowed. He seemed to be in a vaguely familiar residential area. Then it came to a full stop in front of a house he seemed to recognize. Suddenly he realized that the couple he saw sitting on the front porch were his mother and father, bickering as they always had during his youth about the eventual end of the world.

Kindness
By Madisyn Taylor

Kindness expands the light within us and reaches out to touch the light in others as well.

Kindness is an ideal that is easily accessible to all of us. We all know that a small kindness can make our journeys lighter and more enjoyable. Even bringing an instance of kindness to mind can put a smile on your face days or weeks later or perhaps even inspire you to share kindness with another. Though it may seem simple to the point of insignificance, many cultures throughout the world and history have recognized kindness as a powerful virtue. It may be the simplest way to experience and share all the grandest ideals of humanity. We can make the choice to act from the best place within ourselves at any time, while simultaneously recognizing the highest potential in another with the smallest of acts, nourishing the seed of hope in each soul we encounter.

In a way, kindness acts as the oil that makes the engine of our world move more smoothly and with less friction. We can still get where we are going but the ride is more pleasant, and those around us can share in the ideal world that we help to create. We are all fortunate that kindness is limitless in its supply and available to everyone. When we act in ways that confirm our ideals, we make the ideal our reality. Then, instead of affirming the experience of struggle and competition, we can shift our experience to the reality of ease and pleasurable camaraderie with the fellow citizens of the world.

Whether giving way to someone in traffic or letting someone go ahead of us in line, donating money or sharing our homes in a crisis, we actively create a universe of kindness and giving with every choice we make. The smallest gesture can bring a smile to light the shadow of an unpleasant situation or remove tension from a difficult task, but it’s effects can echo and extend far beyond the moment. We can be sure that we will receive a kindness in return, but giving is its own reward. Kindness expands the light within us and reaches out to touch the light in others as well, giving us all a glimpse of the glow that has the power to enlighten our world.
