Fire-Walking Festival – In certain villages in northern Greece, on the feast day of Saint Constantine, the Anastenarides (the groaners) dance barefoot on hot coals for hours at a time. It is said that the Saint protects those men who he summons to this dance.
After the dance, a black bull is sacrificed on the steps of the church and the raw, still-steaming meat is distributed to all. The strips of hide are given out as well to be made into sandals. St. Elena – While discussing the link between bread and religion that runs so deep in Italy, Waverley Root comments on a ritual that takes place at Quartu Sant’Elena, near Cagliari in Sardinia on May 21st. The people dress in traditional costumes and make an offering to St. Elena of eight large loaves of bread, which contain wine and honey, and are sweetened with jam. St. Rita – This 14th century Italian woman is the patron saint of the unhappily married, due to her sufferings at the hands of a vicious husband, and after his death in a vendetta, her two sons who had inherited their father’s tempers. About Iambe: Iambe means “speech”, indicating this goddess’s intimate connection with the art of communication. In Greek stories, Iambe always had a witty (and sometimes satirical) comeback. This may be why she was credited with creating the writer’s bane of iambic pentameter verse (a metered verse with two distinct accents). In mythology, Iambe used this form of poetry to cheer up Demeter, with tremendous success.
To Do Today: Astrologically, the twins personify individuals who have dual natures: they are filled with charm and creativity but also seem elusive, like Iambe and her poetic method. Gemini is easy to find as it glides high overhead in mid-winter, above and to the left of Orion. It’s two brightest stars — Castor and Pollux — represent the mythological twins brothers of Helen of Troy. Many cultures have seen two humans in this star pattern — marked by two roughly parallel lines of stars capped by two of the brightest stars in our night sky. But the legend that endures is that of Castor and Pollux. Gemini’s two brightest stars bear the names of the twins.
The constellation of Gemini has been seen as twin figures by cultures throughout the world, back into prehistory. The ‘Two Stars’, referring to its very bright suns, which the Greeks recognized as Castor and Polydeuces, were named for the younger and elder forms of the god Horus by the Egyptians. To the Romans they were Hercules and Apollo. Often perceived as twin boys, the lore sustains that they were placed in the night sky by Jove to honor and exemplify the fidelity of their brotherly love. In other instances they were seen as a sister and brother or two angels, then within later Christian traditions, as Adam and Eve.
Stories of hero twins are also related throughout the world. For the Greeks their was Castor and Polydeuces, also known as the Dioscuri, or Heavenly Twins. They were the children of Zeus and Leda, queen of Sparta (yes…you may call them: ‘sons of the swan.’), thus also the brothers to the infamous Helen, late of Troy. The exploits of these twins are many, and all heroic. In their youth they sailed with Jason to retrieve the Golden Fleece. To the Romans, who knew them as Castor and Pollux, the twins were invoked on the field of battle to assure victory. For centuries beyond they were held as guardians to sailors on extended or risky voyages.

When the weather is cloudy and damp, we complain, but when it clears and grows bright, we rush through our days without comment. Yet what more beautiful gift can this world offer us than a sunny, flowery spring day? The slight buzz of bees finding their way to the new flowers, the faint fragrance of blossoming trees, the soft textures of feathery new leaves – these are a feast for our souls and our senses.
How would our lives change if we took time, each day, to notice and comment upon the beauty of nature that we witness? If we spoke to our friends of each pink sunset we enjoyed, and to our lovers of the sensuousness of fresh rain on our skin? How might our lives be changed?

Birthday horoscope for today: Everybody likes to be reassured, so you may not be thrilled the theme in your birthday chart is `setbacks`. Yet once you understand how these will broaden your perspective and enrich your life, you`ll embrace even unsettling changes. In every case, these encounters and events are forcing you to reflect on, and change or even eliminate once-worthwhile alliances and activities. This will de-clutter your life, and just when wonderful new things are coming your way.
If you`re born within cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you`re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You`re in the border; you may have influences from both houses of those signs.
Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible details of today and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac.
Aries (Fire sign): March 21 – April 19
Epigram: Everyone has an opinion on your life right now – friends, family members and even co-workers will all have a few words of advice if you ask them what they think. Not all of it will be remotely applicable to your situation now, but you should go ahead and ask them for their feedback. Listen to them all with an open mind; you`ll get a kick out of all the different takes. In the end, you`d be wisest to do what you always do – follow your heart.
Outline: You have a strong desire to learn something new. Taking a challenging course will prompt some cynical comments from friends. They will mock your efforts to learn a language or master a musical instrument. Turn a deaf ear to these taunts. You can accomplish anything you desire, so long as you stay focused. Abandoning a project at the first sign of trouble can be a problem for you. Don`t let your restless energy stop you from crossing the finish line.
Cash or pay could depend on someone far away. An interesting second revenue stream could develop with a friend. Improvements in relationships are likely when you discover that though you`re using different language, you`re effectively singing from the same hymn sheet. You might also decide that with a colleague, a `good cop, bad cop` routine might be useful.
Finance: Things are heating up, so it`s time to chill. If you pour gas on a fire, it still needs air to flourish. Don`t feed your debt, even if your instinct is to douse your anxiety with spending.
Career: Your intuition is screaming directions at you, so slow down and listen up – you`ll regret your decision to ignore your gut instinct. You might doubt yourself at first, but it should soon be abundantly clear that you are on the right path.
Taurus (Earth sign): April 20 – May 20
Epigram: Searching for perfection? You will get tantalizingly close – your plans will fall together perfectly and you will win some admirers along the way. This home run should keep your competitive streak satisfied for a while, so try to be content with what you`ve accomplished. Your drive is admirable, but if you focus too much on what could be better, you will miss out on all the things that are working so well. Things aren`t ever going to be perfect – and no one expects them to be.
Outline: Being financially independent is important. You have a lot of artistic talent and can use it to create products that are useful and beautiful. The profits from your work should be placed into an account that only you can access. If you have a business or marriage partnership, find a way to fairly distribute these goods. Handing over all your earnings without question can lead to disaster. Ideally, you should keep a nest egg that can be accessed in case of an emergency.
Long-term financial issues could be destabilising. Someone close may have run up a large bill. Mounting concern that savings could be plundered could lead you to initiate a new budget – and, perhaps, to copy an idea that was used by the family a long time ago. Family or childhood issues could surface in other ways: perhaps through contact with a cousin?
Finance: Don`t get spooked by what you see through the sites. Planning heavy, long term stuff based on today`s numbers would be foolish, so zoom out to get a more accurate financial picture.
Career: It will be all too easy – and tempting – to overreact to the next big snafu that comes down the pike. When you hear about it, turn away, breathe deeply, go to the gym or do whatever else it takes to avoid blowing up. Don`t engage your emotions in this one.
Gemini (Air sign): May 21 – June 20
Epigram: Skip the shortcuts and stick to doing things straightaway. This applies to all aspects of your life: romance, health, work, school, family. Your conversations should all be as direct as possible, your actions should be unambiguous and your routine should be as efficient as can be. Getting side-tracked or lured away by promises of more time or more money is not a good option, so avoid veering off in any new directions. Your extra efforts will pay off handsomely.
Outline: You know exactly what you want and won`t let anything stand in your way. Fortunately, you won`t have to use brute force to realise your dream. A little cunning is all that is required for you to succeed. You`ve always been good at detecting what motivates others. By tapping into these instincts, you can approach a powerful person with a compelling sales pitch. Soon, you`ll have their support. Having this individual behind you will allow you to land a job or launch a creative project.
You could feel out of sorts: especially if you`ve had too much rich food or too much sugar. Regulating your diet could move up your priority list. You might also want to learn more about nutrients and how best you can support your learning. With interest in a subject fully awakened, you may not be able to stop yourself asking questions. You might also wonder if someone`s withholding information deliberately.

In other words, don`t beat yourself up for not being perfect! There`s no reason to worry that your reputation has gone south or that you don`t have `it` anymore; you definitely still have `it`, and you will be lovingly reminded of that fact. How you value yourself should be based on what you have done – not on what you haven`t.
Outline: You`re ready to rest and relax after a prolonged period of social activity. When you get home, turn your mobile off and stay away from the computer. Electronic devices will keep your brain buzzing when it should be settling down. Get some distance from e-mail and social networking sites. This will allow your imagination to run wild. Soon, you`ll be motivated to start an art project that makes you happy. This can`t happen if you`re busy messaging friends and watching cat videos.
Concern about a younger person may be rising: you might need convincing that they fully understand what they`re getting into. Your own knowledge about health issues could be growing – thanks to a good friend whose advice about a `must read` book is spot on. Epigram: It`s one of those half and half days – some good, some bad – but the overall quality is totally up to you and what attitude you choose to adopt. You really need to keep your chin up – it will help you get a better view of the silver lining on that cloud. Outline: Your imagination is very strong. Inventing a product or device will yield a significant profit. Pay attention to your thoughts throughout the day. Whenever you catch yourself complaining about a problem, ask what you can do to address it. The answer may be startlingly simple. You have a talent for tapping into the public consciousness. By drawing on this strength, you could build a fortune. Having the money to do as you please will be a heavy responsibility, but it`s one you can handle.
A piece of furniture might not fit into the space allocated. You might also be challenged by a renovation project. This could be a good day for bargain or antique shopping. Epigram: Do you feel like someone you love is holding you back? A friend or relative thinks so, and they will approach you soon with a nutty idea or test to help the situation. You will feel appreciated in the way you need to very soon. Any negative things in your life right now are being pushed along by fear – both yours and theirs. The only solution is to be bold and let bravado carry you on to more positive relationships. Make sure there`s a good balance of respect.
Outline: You`re highly ambitious. Acting as an assistant to an expert or an executive has grown boring. You want to call the shots yourself. This may mean opening your own business or going to work for a rival company. Don`t be afraid to go where you can grow. Your present employer may not be able to see you in a leadership position. That`s because they are benefitting from the status quo. As soon as you leave, they`ll struggle to recover from the loss.
Your knowledge could be tapped by a friend who`s in distress. It could be that they`re sitting a test or have had difficulty in understanding a medically-related matter. You may have left it almost too late to pay a bill – possibly incurring late charges. Resolving this and arranging regular payments that give a discount might not be exciting but could please your efficient sub-personality!
Finance: Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes. If you took work issues home with you, then you might as well spend time going over the finer details. Then, enjoy the new perspective.

Libra (Air sign): September 23 – October 22

The same pressures to conform will still exist, but now more than ever you should feel empowered to tell those dogmatic folks to take a hike. Go your own way, and don`t be surprised if the sheep end up following you. There is no point in being just like everyone else. You know that, but every once in a while you need to remind yourself.
Outline: Spiritual and religious pursuits are strongly advised. You`re tired of being preoccupied with money and status. Find out what makes life meaningful and then devote most of your energy to these activities. You may decide to volunteer for a charitable organisation. Moving to the countryside is another possibility. Cultivating joy and contentment wherever you are, whatever you`re doing will allow you to prosper, regardless of your bank account or social standing.
Agreeing an estimate and arranging a schedule of work is likely. You might also be concerned about the health of someone close and willing to pay almost anything to ease their way. You`re feeling great about your role in the world right now, and you should also have a good feeling about where you are headed. The people in your life are giving you smart feedback, so follow their advice and you will stay in this powerful phase for a longer time. The future is waiting for you.
Outline: You`ll be put in charge of a group fund. Be scrupulous in your accounting. That way, if anyone has questions about your spending priorities, you will have the paperwork to illustrate where and when money went. It`s important for you to think about the long term future. If you are put in charge of a trust fund, explore how much money will be necessary to keep children to education in a few years. Create an arrangement that won`t allow them to spend these recourses on a whim.
It might seem that you`re having to give far more to a task than was initially explained. The project may be infinitely more complicated than you expected – increasing the deadline may be necessary. It`s not time to move ahead right now in any type of relationship – legal, professional, romantic or otherwise.
Outline: Working with a partner will be extremely beneficial. Your single minded way of doing things has caused problems in the past. Having a collaborator will give you a more nuanced perspective. Instead of assuming your way is the best way, others will point out potential problems with proposals. This will allow you fix problems before they occur. It`s impossible to underestimate the influence of the practical Saturn, which is currently powerfully linked to the Sun.
