Seasons of the Witch
Goddess Month of Moura runs from 2/20 – 3/19
February 28
In ancient times, a Chaldean Sabbath known as the Sabbatu was celebrated each year on this date.
On this day of the year, the Earth-Goddesses Ceres, Demeter, Gaia, Ge, and Mauri are honored by many Pagans and Wiccans around the world.
Also honored annually on this day is the ancient Pagan deity Zamyaz, who was worshipped and offered sacrifices by the ancient Chaldeans and Persians.
St Radegund of the Oats -A saintly sixth-century queen (she married Clotaire, King of the Merovingians, but fled from him after he murdered her brother), her worship replaced that of the earlier grain goddess. The legend goes that while she was fleeing from her husband, she passed a farmer sowing oats and asked him to tell anyone that followed that he had not seen a woman pass since he sowed the oats. In the next few hours, the oats grew so tall that Radegund could hide herself among them and when the farmer delivered his message to the King, he called off the search. (A similar story is told about St Mildburga (Feb 23), St Walburga (Feb 25) and the Virgin Mary.)
People brought oats as offerings to her on her feast day which was celebrated earlier in England, on February 11. St Radegund’s other feast day is August 13, which further confirms her connection with a grain goddess, as this is the date of a great goddess festival, when Artemis, Hecate and later the Virgin Mary were asked to protect the grain as it stood in the fields awaiting harvest.
Berger, Pamela, The Goddess Obscured, Beacon Press 1985
Out with the Shvod -Armenians roust the house guardians out of their lazy beds and into the fields for growing season duties on this day by banging on the walls with sticks and saying, “Out with the Shvod and in with the March.”
Funk and Wagnalls Standard Dictionary of Folklore, Mythology & Legend, Maria Leach, editor, Harper and Row 1984
NOTE: Because of the large number of ancient calendars, many in simultaneous use, as well as different ways of computing holy days (marked by the annual inundation, the solar year, the lunar month, the rising of key stars, and other celestial and terrestrial events), you may find these holy days celebrated a few days earlier or later at your local temple.

Love Strengthening Spell
To strengthen your love with a partner on this Venus day, light a purple candle. Take an amethyst crystal in your left hand and hold a photograph of your loved one in your right hand. Focus on the flame, and see the two of you standing inside it, protected from all outside influences. Slowly raise your hands above the flame, up toward the ceiling. While holding the crystal and photo, blow out the candle, knowing that the flame continues to protect the two of you.

Apple (Pyrus malus): Venus, Water. Used in love spells for hundreds of years.

A Simple Meditation
If possible on this day, burn some pure sandalwood incense. This is the best incense for meditation. As your incense smolders, focus on the smoke’s rising and billowing movements. After several moments, close your eyes, but do not let your mind wander. If it does, gently return your thoughts to the incense. Inhale the fragrance. Breathe deeply, and clear your mind. To aid meditation, play music or the sounds of water if you like. Being near actual running water is desired, even if you have to use an indoor fountain. Concentrate on the sounds only; nothing else exists or matters. Try this for five minutes each day, gradually increasing the time until you can sit for thirty minutes or an hour.

“The Goddess Companion”
Do not think of Vesta
as anything other than
fire, the living flame
which gives birth to nothing
but itself again.
Thus we call her virgin
for she is never seeded
not does she bear fruit.
And oh! she loves her maidens,
companions in virginity.
~Ovid, Fasti
To the ancient Romans, this was New Year’s Eve. On this day, the sacred blaze burning in the temple of the fire goddess Vesta was allowed to go out. The rest of the year, a sorority called the Vestal Virgins, under the direction of the Virgo Vesalis Maximus, tended the fire carefully, for it represented the very essence of Rome. A night without that fire burning in the temple was a dangerous and powerful time.
There are such flameless nights in our live, times when we do not know if we can survive, when life’s passion has dimmed and all seems dark and cold. In such times, we can only do what the Vestal Virgins did, generation after generation, in the Roman temple: we can wait, and watch, and pray. And hope, and trust in the great truth of nature: that change is inevitable, and even dark times must have their endings.

About The Morning Feast and Goddessschool.com – The teachings here are based on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
