Llewellyn’s Spell a Day
Bills Are Due Bewitched Money Jar
Spell Date: Sunday, August 12, 2018

You just found out your child needs braces and there’s a knock in your engine, but the electricity payment is due and your cupboards are bare. Don’t we hate it when unexpected expenses creep into our lives? This bewitched money jar just might help.

You will need:
* A large glass jar
* A green permanent marker
* Basil leaves
* Some coins
* A green aventurine
* A green drawstring bag

Take a large glass jar and use the marker to draw personal symbols of wealth on it. Now take the basil leaves, coins, and green aventurine and place them in the green drawstring bag. Place the bag in the bottom of the jar. Imagine that for every coin you place in the jar, its value will find its way into your life three times three. Now say:

“For every coin I add, may my
wealth increase three times three.”

Add spare and/or found change daily until the jar is full.

Embracing the Shadow Self
Spell Date: Saturday, August 11, 2018

During a solar eclipse, the sun is obscured in shadow. This is a good time to look at our shadow self and do some introspective work. If you can do this meditation at the time of the eclipse, it will work the best. Sit outside under the sun (if possible) during this time period. Close your eyes and envision yourself walking toward your shadow self. Contemplate what about that primal being unnerves you. When you have learned what you can from your shadow self, embrace it. Take the positive qualities of your shadow self with you into the light.

Crown of Power Shield
Spell Date: Friday, August 10, 2018

With the sun and moon both in Leo, the “king” of the zodiac, we can create an extra-powerful psychic shield that can be reinforced at any time.

Buy or make a crown (even a paper one will do) and place it on your head. Close your eyes and meditate, visualizing that the crown is glowing with energy. See the energy grow and envelop you like a bubble. Feel as though the crown is a symbol of your total sovereignty; it is your emblem of personal power. The shield of power is strong, solid, and complete. Feel it condense, and affirm it with these words:

“Shield of power, my royal crown,
keep me safe from any harm.”

From this point on, whenever you feel the need for protection, visualize the crown on your head and feel the magical strength it provides.

The Power of the Horse
Spell Date: Thursday, August 9, 2018

The first horses arrived in Hawaii on this day in 1803. Can you imagine what it must have been like to see them for the first time? As a totem animal, horse brings raw energy and power. It’s a symbol of freedom and new journeys. Every different color of horse means something slightly different: white is for purity, black for determination, red for energy, gold for awareness, etc.

It’s easy to invite the energies of horse into your life so that you can work with them. Put a picture of a horse on your altar, or wear horse-themed jewelry. If you’re able to visit a horse farm or dude ranch, get some firsthand experience. Working with horse builds trust and patience, which is why equine therapy is gaining popularity when it comes to emotional healing.

Love Magick Divination
Spell Date: Wednesday, August 8, 2018

On this day, the ancient Romans celebrated the Eve of the Festival of Venus. The night was given over to songs, prayers, and pouring libations in her honor, as well as wild lovemaking. Sorceresses were said to perform magical divination for love and marriage. Love magic is seen as potentially manipulative by modern Witches, but it’s possible to use our intuition to see what the goddess of love may have in mind for us.

On this night, place two roses on your altar, and tie the stems together with ribbon (red or pink are best). Light red or pink candles. Place photos or the names of single people whose love lives you want to gain insights about (include yourself if you wish). Stare at each photo and say the person’s name, then say:

“What will love bring to you?”

When you go to bed, rub some perfumed oil on your wrists. Use something earthy and sensual to relax you and conjure thoughts of romance (vetiver, patchouli, rose, amber, or sandalwood are all good). Think of the names and faces of the people on your altar, and with any luck you will dream of them and gain insight into their love lives.

A Personal Harvest Spell
Spell Date: Tuesday, August 7, 2018

The harvest season has begun, but not just an agricultural one. This is also a time for personal harvests. Have you attained your goals? Is there more you wish to do? This spell will help you achieve your dreams.

First, decorate your altar with seasonal produce and flowers. You’ll also need three sheets of paper, a pen, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. On the first sheet, write a list of everything you’re thankful for. On the second sheet, list all that you’ve achieved. On the last sheet, write a list of everything you still wish for, and how you’ll achieve these goals. Fold this sheet like a letter, seal it in the envelope, and send it to yourself. This will be your “harvest” still to come. When it arrives, don’t open it until Samhain, the last harvest. Then see how you did. Keep the three lists as long as you want, then discard them.

The Reset Button
Spell Date: Monday, August 6, 2018

In the summer, I swim in Lake Ontario most days. I love submerging my crown chakra in the water and feeling the complete change in my energy. This seems to “reset” me, clearing my aura and raising my vibration. I’ve learned that a dip in the lake can restore me to sanity following an experience of hurt, anger, or disappointment.

We aren’t computers, but it’s good to know how to reset ourselves. What do you do when you are tired, angry, sad, or overwhelmed? What are the things that help you clear negativity and restore equilibrium? Make a list entitled “10 Things That Help Me Feel Better.” Write down what works for you. Here is my list:

* Drink a cup of tea
* Shower
* Hug someone
* Swim
* Laugh
* Nap
* Journal
* Smudge
* Meditate
* Eat chocolate

Post your list where you will see it regularly. Read it. Know it. Use it. And when you need to, press “Reset.”

Waxing Moon Ritual
from Black Hat Circle 2010

Sunflower Seeds -Blessing – Smudge

This is the time between the Waxing and the Full Moon. With the New Moon we began to plant our dreams and watch them grow and ripen.

“Hecate becomes Persephone on the Waxing Moon, and Demeter regains her daughter. Women come from the past, to now, to the future, making all things new. Dreams come true.”

Waxing Moon Invocation

Goddess of our mothers, our foremothers and our selves,
The Moon is new and we are new within her.
Together with the moon we make beginnings,
Set goals and lay the roots for our achievements
To fulfill when the time and moon grow full.

We are women of peace
Attaining our goals in peaceful ways.
What we ask for benefits us and benefits the earth and all.
We accept the challenge of manifesting our dreams.
We accept the responsibility for our choices.

We are careful what we ask for,
Knowing it may happen;
We are careful what we ask for,
That we violate no one’s free will.

We have the awareness of women
And the power of women;
We are each the Goddess and the changing moon.

We are the New Moon.
We are Goddess.
We are the changing world.

As we will it, so mote it be.

Take the bowl of seeds and the cauldron or bowl of earth from the altar. Pass them around the circle clockwise, or lace them in the center of the circle. Each woman in her turn says; “These are my beginnings. I plant these seeds for growth on the waxing Moon. She makes one wish each time the bowls go round the circle; they continue to go around for as long as women have wishes. Keep the wishes short.

Sing: We All Come From The Goddess and There’s a River of Birds in Migration, A Nation of Women with Wings.

Heartwings Love Notes 840 ~ Being of a Saving Nature

Heartwings says: When does saving become hoarding and how can you tell?

The presence of my mother’s linen sheets from her wedding trousseau, still tied with their original pink satin ribbons was an intriguing mystery, first in her cedar trunk and then later when the house got added onto, the hallway linen closet. They had never been used and apparently were not supposed to be. My father used to say jokingly that she was saving them for her next husband. I never got an explanation about them from her.

In the cedar chest in her bedroom at the foot of the bed she also kept a costume she had worn for some classes in Spanish dance. The exotic, colorful skirt and top sprinkled with bangles, fascinated me. In her dressing table drawer she kept a beautiful collection of small, decorative evening purses she seldom used. I loved looking at them. My father would tease her about the several little cardboard bureaus she kept things in. She seldom if ever threw anything away.

My saving nature was doubtless patterned after her proclivities. Though I don’t go to the extremes she did. Once I was helping her tidy up the contents of a closet in their summer home on a lake in Maine. As we cleaned it out I teased her about the number of toasters and also irons she had stowed away. She informed me rather sternly that she had bought them at yard sales and was keeping them in case the one she was using failed to work. She seemed to need to feel she had enough and to spare. Perhaps her behavior was a result of her experiences in Germany during World War I.

I did inherit some of her saving nature. However my version of it is tied to what will prove useful in the future. I save leftovers and seldom have to throw them away because they combine nicely to make new meals. Small boxes that are good to hold gifts, padded envelopes that can be used again, tissue and wrapping paper, and more jostle one another for room in my hallway. When Christmas comes, or the birthdays of dear ones I don’t need to go to the store for packaging. However, I differ from my mother in one significant way: When my collections impede progress in the hall, I recycle to our local thrift store.

May you find good ways to reuse and recycle what you can.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

PS What do you enjoy saving? And why? I love it when readers share their thoughts. Do write and comment. I promise to reply.

Herbs of Venus
by Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs

S Y M B O L S  O F  V E N U S

A key concept in dealing with the Venusian symbology and attributes is harmony. The balancing force represented by one of Venus’s rulerships, Libra, may be taken as a good metaphor for the playing out of balance on every level. Venus, being the archetypal manifestation of beauty and aesthetics, also symbolically represents, love — self-love, one love, and empathy.

Within the astrological chart, the study of Venus reveals how the person derives pleasure and fulfillment. This includes the appreciation of things of beauty both in the arts and nature. Love and beauty also fall under the rulership of Venus. Romantic love, to be sure, but also the love of family, friends, community, the planet, and all other beings. It is this Love, this coming together in empathy which creates the harmony of Venus. They say ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ and so it is with the Venusian appreciation of form in harmony. Beauty is found within the natural perfection created by two opposites, within the union of two forces, within the exquisite balance created by nature. This planetary energy is not just aesthetics, it embodies the many layers of joy, whether casual or spiritual, that all of us seek.

Same goes for herbs. Venusian herbs aren’t just herbs for “beauty” as in our skin, and outer layers, it also contains the herbs for happiness, herbs of the heart, euphoric herbs that spike our mojo, along with reproductive toners, and spirit herbs that calm our core and attune us to love.

V E N U S  I N  T H E  B O D Y

Venus rules over the metamorphosis of the cells, the reproduction and enrichment and transformation of cells, the preservation of the body, the complexion, the reproductive system and the harmony between all the systems of the body.

Venus is also said to rule all functions of the throat, for Venus is assigned as the ruler of Taurus. Through Venus’ association with Libra, it is said to rule the kidneys. As a planet which is usually indicative of aesthetic values, Venus is correspondent with the skin and hair. Modern medical astrology has also incorporated the thyroid, parathyroid, and thymus.

It rules the reproductive system (fertility/infertility), correlates to the urinary system (and its connection to the kidneys). Venus within our lives can also dictate how (and if) we are able to receive from others, and from life in general. Venus is like the midwife to our happiness; how we are able to accept the deepest pleasure in our life and access our natural state of joyfulness.

*It’s important to see where Venus is located within your natal chart, along with its aspects. This can provide great clarity as to the potential strengths and weaknesses
within the body.

By nature, the herbs of Venus are feminine, gentle, relaxing and balancing. The action of “tonics” in itself is Venusian, as this category of herbs is the ones that balance all major organ systems and assist our body in accessing harmony. Most of these herbs tend to be neutral, as they can be both warming and cooling.
Venusian herbs work with the energies of attraction. Many of these herbs have been used in a ritual by different traditions, as they are said to be the agents that fuel the dream into manifestation. Although each herb has its way of yielding its power, they have the common thread that they are known to assist in materializing what we love.

Stephen Halpert
Murder in North Grafton, Part 2

Officer Sippi Bopp followed Officer Charley Chico into Detective Tom Winslow’s cottage. As she entered his kitchen and saw his body, she stopped short. She hadn’t expected to walk into the middle of a crime scene on her first day of work.
Sitting in his office, waiting to hear from them, Chief Redtoe chuckled to himself. He figured Detective Winslow deserved the embarrassment of their walking in on his king size hangover, the end result of his retirement party the night before.
Then the message from a shocked Charley Chico came in over his radio: Winslow was lying in a pool of blood on his kitchen floor.
The chuckle turned into a cough. “You found what?” Chief Redtoe called for his car; minutes later Sippi heard the sirens on Route 122.
Something made her around just in time; her eyes widened. “Don’t,” she said forcefully. Chico stopped and glared at her. He put down the slice of cake he was about to snitch.
“That’s part of this crime scene. You can’t go messing with it or some smarty lawyer could consider relevant evidence tainted.”
“Just a small slice of cake,” Chico said belligerently. “And who says you got the right to tell me what to do anyway?”
“Just don’t go taking any or I’ll tell:” her voice flat like she was serving a summons.
Chico put his hands on his hips and shook his head. “You that kind of a girl? The sort who goes and tells?”
Sippi straightened her shoulders, looked hard at Chico. “It’s easier for both of us if you just consider me a woman like I consider you a man. Cause if you see me as girl then I see you as little boy.”
Chico was about to retort when Chief Redtoe burst through the back door.
Nodding to the two officers, he walked toward the kitchen table, saw Winslow’s body on the floor and gasped. He reached for a chair and fell into it. “Oh,” he said, tasting his breakfast. He wiped his handkerchief across his forehead and shook his head. He had known Winslow well. They’d been fishing buddies and good friends for many years.
He looked at his officers and then at the body. “This is a crime scene. No one touches a thing unless I say so.” He sighed. “Officer Bopp, check his computer.”
“Yes sir.” Sippi turned and walked past the living room into a small den where Winslow had a long wooden table facing his garden. On the wall was an assortment of horseshoes.
Redtoe fought back his feelings of grief. Whatever might have been said over the years about Tom Winslow, a native of Grafton, was considered one good cop.
“Desktop on his computer is open,” Sippi said as she came back into the kitchen. “No documents open, though. Looks like if there were any papers on his work table, they are missing now.”
The medical examiners came in. “When can you give me a time of death?” Redtoe asked a flustered, slightly overweight woman in her late forties with curly streaked blond hair.
“Yesterday, Chief.”
“This isn’t funny, Wanda. What’s left of Tom Winslow is in this kitchen.”
Wanda Cody eyes flew open. “He’s retired.”
“Not for two months,” Redtoe grumbled. “He told me yesterday he had loose ends he wanted to finish up.”
“Maybe one of them finished him,” Wanda said. She looked at Sippi and smiled. “You new here? I’m Wanda Cody.” She held out her hand and Sippi shook it.
“Sippi Bopp,” she replied.
“Officer Bopp,” Redtoe said. “Jim was supposed to mentor you, back you up so you wouldn’t go shooting yourself in the foot with the DA.”
“I’ve been trained in crime scene investigation,” Sippi said. She looked at Chico. “But a mentor’s always a good thing.”
The chief sighed. “Tom told me he brought a file home last night. Check to see which one it was and have copies printed from the scans.”
Sippi nodded. “Looks like his desktop has been cleared.”
“Backtrack his computer at the station.”
Sippi sighed and nodded her head. This day had not started as she had expected. First before even climbing out of bed she got an indifferent text from Raven Jones, her now former boyfriend, saying goodbye, telling her he’s off to the FBI Academy in the wilds of California.
That was that. Raven was gone. Good riddance as Aunt Bea would say. But Raven had this gentle lover man side that could melt ice. They had met when they were both in rehab. She was WNBA with a bum knee. He was NBA with a broken collarbone.
Already she missed him. But she knew it couldn’t be more than it was. The only constant between her and Raven was that she could never be sure where his heart was at from one day to the next. Raven could like a rug.
“What are you thinking Bopp?” Redtoe startled her. “You look a thousand miles away.”
She pulled herself together and straightened up. “The shots,” she pointed to the shattered screen dangling from the window frame. “Had to come from across the pond. That’s at best sixty, seventy yards away. Perp might have once been military.”
“Maybe,” Redtoe said. “What are you getting at?”
“Perp had to be a pretty good shot Chief. Lots of glare, reflection off the water. Narrow scope. He couldn’t afford to miss.”
Redtoe nodded. “Tom served in Viet Nam. Maybe a connection there.”
Wanda came from the kitchen. “Something funny about this cake, Chief. I don’t like the smell. I’m going to run it through the lab.”
Sippi nodded. Chico looked sheepish.
A patrolman came into the cottage. “Footprints outside, Chief.”
“See if you can get impressions. Tire tracks too. Might be useful.”
Redtoe looked thoughtful. It was good for the department to have a woman of color on the force. He was impressed with her quick analysis of the situation. If there was any mentoring to be done it had better be up to him.
He cleared his throat and looked intently at Sippi. “Bopp I’m turning this case over to you. Chico will be your back up. I want you two to learn what you can about whatever circumstances in Tom’s life ultimately led to this. Start with the missing file. See what that’s all about. Yesterday he mentioned a cold case. Find a tie- in. Then look into his private life. I want this case solved. An unsolved murder like this is a black spot for the Department. Report back to me ASAP.”
Chico looked over at Sippi. “Guess you’re lead.”
Redtoe continued. “Chico, show Bopp around Grafton. Give her the total drive by so she knows the landscape like the back of her hand. Fill her in.”
He turned and followed the medical examiner out.
Chico checked his watch and smiled at Sippi. “It’s almost lunch time; how about we start our drive around with a pizza.”
Sippi wrinkled her nose. “I want us to walk around the pond first.”
He seemed confused. “Why? What are we looking for?”
Sippi’s eyes brightened. “Whatever’s there but isn’t supposed to be. Let’s start there for openers. By the way, any organic salad bars in town? Maybe a restaurant with a gluten free menu?”
Charley looked doubtful. He shook his head, wrinkled his nose. “You mean stuff like broccoli, tofu, sprouts? Stuff like that?”
“Yes,” Sippi nodded.
He looked thoughtful. “No,” he sighed. “For stuff like that we’d have to go to Westboro.”

The Magic of Jade

This  is  the beginning of the new lunar calendar. In celebration of the Chinese New Year, I will be discussing the many  wonderful  contributions  the  Asian  cultures  have  given the world in relation to crystals and alternative medicine.

The  ancient  Chinese  culture  has revered Jade for centuries. Jade is considered the health, wealth and longevity stone.  Used  also  for  courage,  wisdom,  justice,  mercy,  emotional balance, stamina, love, fidelity, humility, generosity,  peace, harmony. Jade is known as androgynous, therefore it is considered having a gentle, steady pulse
of healing energy. Jade is found in different colors and can be used on the appropriate Chakra based on its color.

Properties  common to all colors of Jade include its ability to mellow one’s existence. Helps one rid themselves of negative  thoughts  and  energy.  Very  beneficial to the heart in both physical and spiritual senses. It is a very protective  stone  and  will  keep  its wearer out of harm’s way. Jade bounds us to our earth energies and physical instincts. Jade is a humbling stone.

Folk  Remedies:  Jade works with the lungs, heart, thymus, immune, kidney and blood detoxification, nervous system. While all Jade has some healing influence, each color relates more specifically to certain ailments or organs.

Strengthens the body’s filtration and cleansing systems and assists in the removal of toxins.

Feng  Shui:  Jade is used in positive directions for longevity and a good life. Used in the Center area for harmony and  balance,  in the Northeast area for wisdom and in the Southwest area for love and partnership. (Be sure to use two stones together in this area, never one or three).

History:  There  are  two  varieties  of Jade: Jadeite (NaAlSi2O6) and Nephrite (Ca2[MgFe]5Si8O22[OH]2. Nephrite is quite  similar  to Jadeite in its healing abilities, but its colors are creamier and less translucent than Jadeite; Nephrite  is  the  more  commonly  found variety. Jade may come in a variety of colors, green, blue, black, violet,
white, yellow and a reddish and brownish variety. Each with its own slightly different use.

Blue  Jade:  A peaceful and passive energy source. Helps people who meditate to relax and gain an inner serenity. A quiet  teacher of patience and slow, steady progress. It is a wonderful stone to give to people who feel restricted or overcome by situations beyond their control.

Brown  Jade:  A  stone  that connects us tot he earth. A good stone to use to help settle matters of the home or to adjust to a new environment.

Green  Jade:  Most common. Very calming to the nervous system. The color green is representative of life or growth. Helps one channel passions in a constructive way, making expressions of love easier.

Lavender  Jade: In touch with the emotions. Beneficial to people who have been hurt by love or need to discover the gentleness within themselves. Can help one learn restraint and subtlety in matters of emotional importance.

Red Jade: A passionate and active stone. Caution is advised here: it can have such a stimulating influence that the wearer  becomes  agitated  and  feels the need to express anger. It can help you extract those feelings and come to terms with them. Use Red Jade to blow off steam, to release tension.

White  or  Cream Jade: Helps one direct their energy to its most advantageous outlet. Helps filter out distraction and allows you to envision the best result of a given situation. Also suggested for the eyes.

Yellow and Orange Jade: Both are similar enough to be considered together. Both impart the gift of  joy  and happiness. They teach the interconnectedness of all beings. Help organs that process food and waste in our bodies.

The Ego
By Madisyn Taylor

The ego is simply a way for us to understand and attend to ourselves, at the same time as we understand and attend to the world around us.

In most spiritual circles, the ego gets a pretty bad rap. The reason for this is that the ego, to some extent, is the principle in our psyches that separates us from one another, while spirit is the principle that shows us that no such separation exists. Sometimes the ego is depicted as an almost demonic figure that keeps us from realizing our true nature. But at its most basic, the ego is simply a tool that helps us organize the various aspects of our personality so that we can function in the world. In this sense, the ego is simply a way for us to understand and attend to ourselves at the same time as we understand and attend to the world around us. The ego is a tool that we use to navigate the world.

Perhaps the problem is that the ego sometimes gets out of control. This happens when the higher self loses control of the psyche. The psyche then falls under the leadership of the ego, an entity that was never meant to lead. The ego is meant to be definitively in the service of the higher self. When this relationship is functioning, the ego is a useful intermediary representing the whole self but not thinking that it is the whole self. Then, it is almost as if the ego is the self playfully pretending to be the separate entity called “I.” Like an actor, the ego plays the roles that the world asks us to play in order to be part of the program. In this way, the ego can be a tool enabling us to be in the world but not of it.

As long as we are in touch with our higher selves, our egos are not a threat. They are simply useful tools in the service of spirit. We keep our egos in check when we continually nurture our awareness of who we really are. Then our egos are free to serve without trying ineffectually to rule. It is healthy to have ego, but like all things in life, ego functions best when it is in balance and harmony with your whole self.

Importance Of Forgiveness
By Madisyn Taylor

In order to forgive, we need to stop identifying ourselves with the suffering that was caused to us.

When someone has hurt us, consciously or unconsciously, one of the most difficult things we have to face in resolving the situation is the act of forgiveness. Sometimes it feels like it’s easier not to forgive and that the answer is to simply cut the person in question out of our lives. In some cases, ending the relationship may be the right thing to do, but even in that case, we will only be free if we have truly forgiven. If we harbor bitterness in our hearts against anyone, we only hurt ourselves because we are the ones harboring the bitterness. Choosing to forgive is choosing to alleviate ourselves of that burden, choosing to be free of the past, and choosing not to perceive ourselves as victims.

One of the reasons that forgiveness can be so challenging is that we feel we are condoning the actions of the person who caused our suffering, but this is a misunderstanding of what is required. In order to forgive, we simply need to get to a place where we are ready to stop identifying ourselves with the suffering that was caused us. Forgiveness is something we do for ourselves, and our forgiveness of others is an extension of our readiness to let go of our own pain. Getting to this point begins with fully accepting what has happened. Through this acceptance, we allow ourselves to feel and process our emotions.

It can be helpful to articulate our feelings in writing over a period of days or even weeks. As we allow ourselves to say what we need to say and ask for what we need to heal, we will find that this changes each day. It may be confusing, but it is a sign of progress. At times we may feel as if we are slogging uphill through dense mud and thick trees, getting nowhere. If we keep going, however, we will reach a summit and see clearly that we are finally free of the past. From here, we recognize that suffering comes from suffering, and compassion for those who have hurt us naturally arises, enhancing our new perspective.
