Listening for Direction
Spell Date: Sunday, May 21, 2017

Daily practices add up to great things. One small step after another takes you a long way. My most amazing accomplishments are all the culmination of something done daily over a long period of time. Twenty-five years clean and sober, parenting a healthy, happy teenager, and excellent health and wellness are all the result of showing up daily and taking that one small step.

Whether or not you currently meditate, set aside a few minutes today to sit in silence. Settle yourself cross-legged, with your back straight, neck long, and chin slightly tucked. Rest your hands on your thighs. Inhale deeply and exhale even more slowly. Repeat. Sink into relaxation. Focus on your posture and breath, coming back to them when your mind wanders off. Ask, What do I need to know today? And listen. Divine guidance will come to you from your own depths. Be blessed.

Sunflower Seed Spell
Spell Date: Saturday, May 20, 2017

Helianthus annuus (sunflower) is an apparition of the power of the sun. This spell works with this plant spirit and its seeds to cultivate success in an endeavor.

Ground, center, and align. If you are fortunate, you will be standing in a field of sunflowers, or else you will be holding the seeds. Do this at midday, and if you are able, stand directly under the sun. Begin to dance to raise the power. You may like to chant the following:

“I raise the power, I raise the power, I raise it well, I raise it well, By these sun seeds, by these sun seeds, For this spell, for this spell.”

Focus your consciousness so that you see yourself having already achieved success in your endeavor. When the power naturally peaks, throw the sunflower seeds and feel that the spell’s power releases into you as the

A Spell for Courage
Spell Date: Friday, May 19, 2017

This spell is to be used as an aid to increase courage or strength. In this spell, I use zinnia seeds because in old magical lore zinnias represented strength, and this is the time of year to plant them. The zinnias you plant should be a warm color—red, orange, or yellow are recommended. Select your seeds and plant them according to the directions on the package. Speak these words of power in a firm voice as you plant:

“Seeds that appear lifeless and dry, I ask that you grow, bloom, and delight my eye. And as you bloom beneath the sun’s rays, My courage and strength increase to brighten my days.”

At high summer, your zinnias will stand tall and visitors to your garden will admire their beauty. But you, my magical friend, will know their real meaning.

International Museum Day
Spell Date: Thursday, May 18, 2017

Today is International Museum Day. Museums invite us to explore the world—our past, the plants and animals around us, technology, art, and all kinds of exciting things. They act like temples for all deities of knowledge. Traveling to a museum broadens our horizons by showing us things we might not discover otherwise. Also, if you look in the gift shop, you might find some magical tools. Museum gift shops often have crystals, replicas of ancient artifacts, and other exciting things. So if you can, visit a museum today.

Before you go, say:

“Lugh and Thoth, Apollo and Ganesh, Gods of wisdom guide my journey. Minerva and Benzaiten, Saraswati and Seshat, Goddesses of knowledge light my path. Place your discoveries before me That I may embrace them today.”

If you find a souvenir, bless it with these words:

“Symbol of wisdom, travel with me in my quest for enlightenment.”

Spell to Break Self-Destructive Money Habits
Spell Date: Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy when it comes to finances. Use this spell to end bad money habits and change your financial vibe forever! For this spell, you will need three pennies, lemonscented household cleaner, fresh water, and red nail polish.

Clean your pennies with the lemon-scented cleaner and fresh water. As you do so, chant:

“Money, money, money! I love you, baby, this is true, but our relationship makes me sad and blue. With this lemon I take the bad away. Only the good between us shall stay!”

Paint the head side of the pennies with red nail polish, and as they dry, gently blow on them and say:

“Money, money, money! I love you, baby, this is true. Let’s make our relationship fresh and new!”

Place one penny on your altar and one in your pocket for spending, and include one in your next bank deposit.

Making Witch’s Salt
Spell Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Witch’s salt, also known as black salt, can be a powerful addition to your protective spells repertoire. It can often be purchased at Pagan and occult shops, but why do that when you can easily make your own?

For my Witch’s salt, I use the following:

* 1 cup sea salt
* 3 self-igniting incense charcoals
* 1 teaspoon myrrh
* 1/4 cup black pepper

Use a heat-resistant container to burn the charcoals on the salt, adding the myrrh as the coals get hot. After it is cool, stir in the pepper, being careful not to inhale it.

Sprinkle the salt around the outside of your home for protection or use it to boost your spell mixtures. This salt is not to be used for cooking, although you can buy food-safe black salt at cooking and health food stores.

Let There Be Love
Spell Date: Monday, May 15, 2017

Love is one of the few things in life that we can never have too much of. There are many different kinds of love, including the love of family and friends, significant others, animal companions, and, of course, the love of the Goddess and God. This spell is a message to the universe that you are open to having more love in your own life, and is an invitation to send it in the best possible forms.

Light a red, pink, or white candle. If you like, put a rose or some rose petals on your altar, or a piece of rose quartz. This spell can be said for as many days in a row as feels right, or whenever you need it:

“Friends and lovers, pets and kin, With open heart I welcome in All the love that’s positive To brighten up the life I live.”

Heartwings Love Notes 777 Simple Meals for Easy Days

Heartwings says, “The happiest cook has a few simple recipes for busy days when cooking time is short.

In the good weather when there is much to do in the garden and elsewhere, who wants to labor in the kitchen and spend time fussing with complicated recipes? In addition, as farm stands open and crops are harvested local fresh green vegetables are more and more available. It is such a treat when local asparagus as well as rhubarb become available. Both are helpful for the bodily cleansing that helps make for a healthful change of season. It is such a treat to be able to find what you need locally grown.

This first recipe, Asparagus Pesto and Pasta goes together quickly, will please just about anyone, and is inexpensive to make. Gluten free or intolerant diners can enjoy it using one of the many good gluten free pastas available in the local supermarkets. To serve 4 to 6: Ingredients:1 Lb. Fresh Asparagus, trimmed (The equivalent of 2 cups) 3 or more fresh basil leaves or 1 or more tsp dried; ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, ¼ cup chopped pecans, walnuts or cashews, as you like; 1 small clove raw garlic, ¼ tsp salt, 3 Tbs olive oil, 8 Oz fine spaghetti or fettuccini.

Method: Cook spaghetti to taste and drain. Add 1 Tbs olive oil and stir well. Place remaining oil, trimmed asparagus and all other ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth, pour over spaghetti, stir and serve with a side salad and some fruit for a complete meal. This is also a good recipe to have fun with: try other green vegetables and/or vary the herbs as desired. The addition of parsley would be a natural. Or combine say half a cup of parsley and any green fresh or lightly steamed and still bright green vegetable.

To enjoy rhubarb easily, simply purchase fresh, young stems at the market or if you are lucky, pick them from a friend’s rhubarb patch. Snip them into inch or so sections with a pair of sharp scissors. Put them into the top half of a double boiler or a bowl that will fit into a pot with some water in the bottom. Cover and steam for about 45 minutes. Add ½ to ¾ cups honey or sugar, to taste. Stir well and chill. Serve any time of day for a refreshing treat as well as good cleansing for your system. Let your food be your medicine, especially in the spring!

May your spring food be easy to fix and leave you time to enjoy other things.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

PS I am so happy to hear from my readers. If you have recipes to share, please know I’d love to see them, or else do write and tell me how my recipes might have worked for you or if you have any suggestions for future recipes or subjects? I’ll always write you back. Thanks in advance!

Domestic Tranquility: Tie One On

I was sitting on the sofa working on a collage when Tasha breezed into the living room and held an open catalogue under my nose. “Do you like this blue cotton dress?” The banner across the page proclaimed in big letters, “everything 50% off.”
I shrugged. “It looks 40’s retro.”
She looked at the collages spread across my worktable. They were in various states of completion. Pointing to one she said, “You’ve been working on this for a long time.”
“One of these days I’ll get around to figuring out how to finish it.” I handed her back the catalogue.
“It’s a real bargain at twelve dollars,” she said.
“No. I’d charge more for it than that.”
She smiled and pointed to the catalogue. “I meant this dress.”
I really didn’t know what to say. Then a magazine ad from when I was a kid popped into my mind. “It’s the same blue dress I remember from a 1940’s ad selling washday detergent. You must recall it: Mom’s standing with a basket of wash she’s just beginning to hang on the clothesline…”
She frowned at me and shook her head. “Oh well, I had thought it was rather summery and attractive, something I’d wear out to dinner with you when we’re in Maine.” She shook her head. “But never mind. I wouldn’t buy anything that reminds you of a woman in an add for detergent.”
“She had black hair and blue eyes. In the ad she looked very happy. I’m sure if you wore it out to dinner no one in the restaurant would remember that a woman wore that exact dress nearly seventy years ago.”
She sighed audibly. “Never mind, I have no intention ever of buying anything that reminds you of someone hanging out their wash.” She looked again at the page. “Yes I suppose one could wear it doing laundry or even housework. It seems practical and comfortable, even though I had thought of it as a bit glamorous.” She turned to go back to the kitchen.
I looked at her. “Wait, if you want to buy something special for the trip…” I rummaged through my cuttings looking for a particular sheer dress I had recently cut out. But I couldn’t find it. “Maybe you could splurge on something diaphanous, the kind of outfit Rita Hayworth wore in Salome when she did the Dance of the Seven Veils.”
She laughed. “Yes I’m sure you’d enjoy seeing me in something like that, but somehow I really don’t think that would be suitable for Maine. For one thing it gets cool there at night and I’d be bit chilly.”
“People wear hardly anything at all at the beach.” I tried assuring her.
” Maybe on a Caribbean cruise,” she said with a tone of finality.
But I didn’t want to give up. “You’d look superb in something like that in Maine or for that matter anywhere’s else.”
She smiled. “It is kind of you to say so. In that case I can see you in a tie and jacket sitting with me at a fancy restaurant by the beach.”
I laughed. “I hardy ever wear a tie and jacket.”
“Yes I know. But if I wore the sort of dress you have in mind you’d have to. Otherwise you wouldn’t feel comfortable trying to talk the police out of arresting me for indecent exposure.” She sat down next to me and looked at my collage more closely. “That’s coming along nicely.”
I shook my head. “Believe me that could never happen. Not in that dress. But are you hinting that you’d like seeing me in a tie more often?”
She grinned. “Oh, I think that’s a wonderful idea.”
“We’d have to be going to some pretty spiffy events for me to feel comfortable dressed up that way.”
She waved that off. “Just wear one here at home, around the apartment.”
“You mean put one on when I’m wearing a polo shirt? Or even a tee shirt?”
“Sure.” She started to laugh. “Of course if you dared to do something that different you might single handedly evoke a whole new trend in men’s fashion. And as an artist, too! I can just imagine all the publicity you’d get. This could be the beginning of something new and very big.”
I shook my head. “You’re not serious.”
She leaned forward eagerly. “Of course I am. As you’ve said so many times, all it takes for an artist to gain international acclaim is for him to do something outrageously out of the ordinary. And wearing a necktie over a tee shirt might really work.”
“I suppose.” I grinned. “But how about I forgo the tee shirt and just walk around the house bare-chested with a tie around my neck. Tell you what; when we’re at the beach in Maine you wear something skimpy and I’ll go bare-chested with a tie. That would make an incredible fashion statement. Maybe we’d even end up on YouTube. Both our careers would definitely surge. That I’m sure of.”
“Surge to the bottom of the sea,” she laughed. “Come sit at the table with me and we’ll have some tea.” She stood up and I followed after her. Then I stopped, turned and looked again at the collage I was having such a hard time finishing. In my mind’s eye I saw it swathed in cuttings from neckties. Adding the cloth gave it a whole new perspective. Excited at the thought I continued over to the dining table.
Tasha was putting on water for tea. She looked at the catalogue again, sighed and tossed it into the recycling.
I sat down at the table. “It’s ok with me if you get it.”
She sighed again. “Forget it. I don’t really need another dress anyway.”
I looked at her and smiled. “Maybe tomorrow I’ll wear a tie to breakfast. Would you like that? After all, these radical new trends have to start slowly.”

Everyday Magick Tips: 15 Ideas For Bringing the Sacred to Your Daily Life
by Linette

We could all use a little more whimsy, enchantment, and connection in our daily lives. Here are some things I have done and used to do just that:

Create one or more altars.
An altar is just a sacred, special space set aside for a particular purpose. You can set the intention for anything you like: greater abundance, healing, and a closer connection to the Divine are all popular altar themes. Once you know what your altar is in honor of, then you can choose items that are meaningful to you that reinforce what you want to focus on. For example, a healing altar might have crystals that promote healing, a photo of something that makes you think of being healthy and healed, a letter you write to your body, or anything that has meaning to you and pertains to the theme of the altar. You can also set up a general household altar that has a more all-purpose meaning. It really is up to you! Try setting up multiple altars around your home. Any flat surface will do – even vertical ones – and you can add anything that is meaningful to you and relates to the theme you’ve chosen.

Meditate
Meditation gets a bad rap, sometimes. People think it’s hard or you have to spend a lot of time at it, neither of which is true. Meditation simply means to focus on the space between thoughts. That can happen during a lot of activities: washing dishes, an art project, swinging on the front porch swing, or lying in your bed on the verge of sleep. The idea is to create an empty, still space for new intuitions to emerge and to allow your mind to relax.

An easy way to begin is to focus on your breath and focus on what it feels like to inhale, and then exhale. Notice each tiny sensation. Before long, your body and mind begin to relax, and lo, and behold! You are meditating!

If you would like more guidance on how to meditate, there are countless videos on youtube.com that will help you relax and find that space between your thoughts in no time. I especially like the ones with binaural beats or brain entrainment elements.
Be Aware
Pay attention to your surroundings! Engage all five senses while mentally naming each sensation. Does the air smell like grass? Like oil and car exhaust? Like food? What is the air temperature like…too hot? Too cold? Just right? What about sounds? What do you see? It doesn’t take a lot of time, but paying attention to what’s around you and taking a moment to name those sights, sounds, smells, textures, and even emotions can tune you in to the magic of the moment, adding an element of joy and pleasure to your day.
Buy yourself some flowers
I very often see grocery store bouquets for $5 or less. You can break them up into smaller arrangements and scatter them all around your home or office to bring some life and color and the special joy that flowers bring. Flowers also invite faeries to visit!
Play with a pet
Your pets miss you while you’re away, and playing with them even for just a few minutes can soothe you both and help you reconnect.
Make your last 5 minutes before sleep count
What you think about in your last 5 minutes before sleep is what your brain ruminates on all night. Make it something that will help you, rather than hurt. For example, if you go to bed thinking about how awful your life is, your mind spends all night reinforcing that thought with dreams, hormones, repeating thoughts, and you wake up in the morning feeling as though the day is already a disaster! Try a week where, before you go to sleep, you think about all the things you are grateful for. Make them up if you have to, but do not resort to sarcasm. Feel grateful as best you can. After a week, you will see a difference in how your days go! (For more tips on making your sleep a spiritual practice, read my blog post here.)

Write wish lists
The Universe cannot bring us things it does not know we want. Often, we don’t know what we want, ourselves. Take some time to write down all the big and little things you want from your life and your day. From very small things like a cup of that Chai Latte, to very large things like the home of your dreams, WRITE IT DOWN. The act of writing it imbues the wish with emotion and energy, making it more likely to find its way to you.
Place meaningful objects around your home
Frame the photos on your phone, bring in the beautiful dead tree branch from your yard, get the old desk out of the garage that was your grandfather’s that you just love. Our homes are a reflection of what means the most to us. But…..
Get serious – and brutal – about what you keep in your home
There is a famous quote about not keeping anything in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. Clutter can quickly take the shine off of being at home, making it feel overwhelming, stressful, and unhappy. Start small or go big, but get rid of anything you no longer love or use.

Look for signs
There are signs everywhere that God/The Universe/ Spirit/Big Momma is watching over you, loves you, and wants you to be happy. Sure, you could say they are coincidence, but which is more fun- thinking that nobody “up there” cares, or that you are the beloved child of something greater than yourself? If you choose the latter, there will be evidence for you to find… repeating numbers, happy “accidents”, information that comes to you at just the right time, even people appearing in your life just when you need them! (Psst…I don’t believe in coincidence…to read more about that, click here)

Write Morning Pages
The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron describes Morning Pages like this: 3 pages, long-hand, stream-of-consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning before your brain has a chance to wake that cranky old Editor who lives in there and inhibits you. Try it for 30 days and see what you think.

Edit your input
Every single thing that goes into your brain stays there forever. Facebook is a prime garbage dump to pick up stuff that doesn’t serve you: Do you really need your cousin’s rant about her neighbors rattling around in your mind? What about the racist jokes your friend from high school posts that just make you mad? TV is another medium that offers more harmful content than good, in my opinion: Do you really need another gory image of a dead body in your head along with the story line from Criminal Minds? I don’t. I am happier without them. Be careful what you put into your mind. Books, movies, conversations, all contribute to the climate of your emotional landscape. And you can control that—so, DO!

Smile at strangers
Just do it and see what happens. ??
Do something fun or silly
Why should silliness stop at age 10? Who says fun has to be reserved for weekend nights? Make faces at yourself in the mirror, record a video of yourself on Snapchat, play a game with your spouse or kids, dress up in a silly outfit and just wear it around the house…whatever strikes your fancy.
Sleep in
Don’t set an alarm, make sure your bed is cozy, comfy, and clean, and sleep until you wake up naturally.

We are not here to simply pay bills and die (that’s a whole other post…). We are here to feel joy in its many, many forms. Adding joy and magick to your everyday is not difficult or time-consuming and can really enhance your life. Feel free to share your suggestions in the comments!

The Flow of the Universe
By Madisyn Taylor

Many people live their lives struggling against the current while others use the flow like a mighty wind.
The flow of the universe moves through everything. It’s in the rocks that form, get pounded into dust, and are blown away, the sprouting of a summer flower born from a seed planted in the spring, the growth cycle that every human being goes through, and the current that takes us down our life’s paths. When we move with the flow, rather than resisting it, we are riding on the universal current that allows us to flow with life.

Many people live their lives struggling against this current. They try to use force or resistance to will their lives into happening the way they think it should. Others move with this flow like a sailor using the wind, trusting that the universe is taking them exactly where they need to be at all times. This flow is accessible to everyone because it moves through and around us. We are always riding this flow. It’s just a matter of whether we are willing to go with it or resist it. Tapping into the flow is often a matter of letting go of the notion that we need to be in control at all times. The flow is always taking you where you need to go. It’s just a matter of deciding whether you plan on taking the ride or dragging your feet.

Learning to step into the flow can help you feel a connection to a force that is greater than you and is always there to support you. The decision to go with the flow can take courage because you are surrendering the notion that you need to do everything by yourself. Riding the flow of the universe can be effortless, exhilarating, and not like anything that you ever expected. When you are open to being in this flow, you open yourself to possibilities that exist beyond the grasp of your control. As a child, you were naturally swept by the flow. Tears of sadness falling down your face could just as quickly turn to tears of laughter. Just the tiniest wave carrying you forward off the shores of the ocean could carry you into peals of delight. Our souls feel good when we go with the flow of the universe. All we have to do is make the choice to ride its currents.

Retreat
By Madisyn Taylor

Going on retreat is a time to cocoon so that we may emerge ready to return to our lives with a new perspective.
Occasionally, we need to pause – and step away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. One way to do this is to get away from our daily life and go on retreat. Far more than a vacation, a retreat offers us time to ourselves to rest, heal, reflect, and renew our spirit. It is a time to cocoon so that we may emerge renewed, refreshed, and ready to return to our everyday lives with a new perspective. A retreat gives us time for uninterrupted meditation so that we may go deep within and spend time with ourselves.

A retreat may offer quiet, solitude, and sometimes even silence. Retreats often take place in humble dwellings with simple fare so that our senses may be reawakened to the beauty of unadorned tastes and the sights and sounds of nature. When we spend days in contemplation, we can more easily hear our heart when it speaks to us. We also are able to really listen when a bird sings, deeply breathe in the smell of flowers, grass, or earth, and delight in a soft breeze blowing on our cheek. When we go on retreat we have time to connect to the sacred geometry of a labyrinth, discover epiphanies through asanas, or take a long, reflective walk through the woods where we can give each step our full attention.

Without the pull of deadlines, relationships, the Internet, or other media, we give ourselves time to go deep into our own solitude where we can fully reflect on our joys, sorrows, and fears, owning and releasing them as needed. We may even come to know and understand our life path more deeply. Hopefully, when we return home, we can take a little bit of this time alone back with us and create the space for deep reflection on a daily basis. We also may come back to our life renewed and ready to take on the world. The beauty of going on retreat is that no matter where you go or how long you stay, you’ll always meet yourself when you get there.

About The Morning Feast and Goddessschool.com – The teachings here are based
on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not
separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the
ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman
is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the
tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
