Renewing Bath

Recharge your batteries after a long day with a comforting ritual bath. Gather some bubble bath, Epsom or bath salts, a candle, a lighter, and something on which you can play music. Ideally all of the scented items will match—lavender is recommended, but eucalyptus is another good one. So are citrus scents.
Run a nice warm bath full of bubbles, adding in about a half cup of salts to the water. Light the candle and set it on the edge of the tub. Play some music that you find relaxing and uplifting. Turn off the lights, sink into the bubbly warm water, and enjoy your soak, visualizing all of the day’s trials, stresses, and tribulations melting away into the water. Emerge renewed and recharged

Herbal Harvest Spell
Spell Date: Saturday, September 9, 2017
Herbal magicks can empower your spells, particularly if you harvest and prepare them yourself. For this spell, you’ll need gathering tools (a sharp boline or plant shears, a shovel), plant food or organic fertilizer, and pure water.
Identify the living plant or tree you wish to use, making sure it is nontoxic and not imperiled. Using a ritual tool or your finger, cast a magick circle around the plant, asking for protection from earth, air, fire, and water. Ask Gaia for permission to gather the plant:
“Mother Gaia, bringer and sustainer
of life, I ask to harvest from this plant
for my magickal purposes, taking only
what I need. I bring this offering.”
Scatter plant food or fertilizer around the plant’s base. Wait for a sign giving an answer to your request. Then gather only what you need from the plant, and before leaving, make a second offering of water to the plant. Close the circle, give thanks to the plant’s spirit, and depart.

A Spell to Calm Anger
Spell Date: Friday, September 8, 2017
Has it been one of those days? It started off with your irritating, nosy neighbor. Then you got to work and someone had your parking space, and your boss acted like a jerk all day. If that weren’t enough, a certain coworker didn’t lift a finger.
Instead of giving everyone dirty looks, try this spell when you get home to calm your anger. First, make a list of everything that made you angry today. Then tear up the paper and put it in a heatproof dish. Over the paper, sprinkle some dried sage and ignite it. As the smoke curls about you, say:
“My spirit is cleansed by this sage.
I hold no grudges or hate.
I hereby release all anger and rage.”
Let the sage and paper burn until only ashes are left. When cool, throw them in the trash.

New Clothes, New Shoes

It’s September. School has started or will start soon. At this time of year, parents and students of all ages acquire new clothes and shoes for the school year. Some buy brand-new items, while others receive items that are new to them. Either way, “new” clothes and shoes will make their way into the lives of many.
Before classes start, take a moment to think of all who made your clothes, the materials from which they are made, and the living things that gave of their being for your clothes and shoes. All things come from the earth, and it is to her that we owe our thanksgiving.
Light a sage bundle. As you pass it over your belongings, say:
“Earth Mother, we thank you for all we have received.
Thank you for fulfilling our every need.”
Extinguish the sage bundle and enjoy your new clothes!

Give Thanks

Heartwings Love Notes: Memories of a Very Special Neighbor
Heartwings says, “A friendly neighbor is a treasure to cherish.”
I was recently able to get back in touch with a former neighbor from a time when her children and mine were young and we lived in a small town on the North Shore of Boston. In our suburban neighborhood, while we both had nice lawns and gardens, our houses were only a few yards apart. Some days when I was upstairs, even without the windows being open I could hear her playing her recorder. A musician and an artist by avocation, she had a dachshund that she had taught to accompany her when she played happy birthday on the piano.
We were able to share only a couple of phone calls in the few months I had rediscovered her. I wish we had had more time to get reacquainted. Now has come the news that she has passed on. Memories of our years as neighbors flood back to me. One favorite is the time I was grilling a boned leg of lamb on my charcoal grill in the back yard only to look out and see her German shepherd running off with it in his mouth. She bravely rescued it from him, cooked it for her family and give me another leg of lamb that was even then roasting in her oven. Many times after that over cups of tea we laughed together, remembering.
Our children played with each other in our yards and she shared produce from her garden with me. Generous with her time and energy, she taught me a lot about sewing, and helped me when I was stuck trying to do something too advanced for my sewing machine skills. She helped me out when my younger children were born, brought food and kept me company. I was sad when she sold her house and moved away. Later after he was grown and on his own she took in my late son and as he helped her with hers, taught him a lot about gardens and gardening. I was very grateful to her for her kindness to him.
No matter how long someone you may cherish lives–and she was 92 when she passed on, it is never long enough to do and say all the things you wish you had done and said. I have to be content with what remains of my memories and of the conversations we had before she went to her final rest. She was a very special friend as well as a wonderful neighbor and I am sure many besides me have fond memories of her. A giving, sharing person, she set a good example for everyone who knew her. She lived a kind and caring life, and will I am sure continue her loving ways now that she has her angel wings.
May you have happy memories of your neighbors and your neighborhoods.

The Birthday Present
Ellen searched high and low for the perfect 40th birthday present for her husband Bob. He had everything he needed and more. Walking through Mallmart, she noticed an intriguing display for a new weight loss DVD entitled Dance it Off, Keep it Off.
She loved Bob dearly, but lately he had been putting on weight. She had tried encouraging him to play golf, but even though he was a top high tech executive he thought the club fees were too expensive. One of their favorite things to do was indulge in ice cream and fancy pastry. She was worried about his health.
She looked at the price. Oh dear, she thought. “Could you tell me more about this DVD?” She asked the clerk. “Why’s it so expensive?”
He shrugged. “Well, it’s imported. People do like it, men especially. The new interactive android holographic fusion is state of the art. From what I’ve heard from satisfied customers, it takes your breath away.”
“Never heard of such a thing” she said dubiously.
The clerk persevered. “Most customers start losing weight immediately. Some guys can’t get enough of it. And we have a money back guarantee. You can return it if it doesn’t do what it says it will.”
“Really?”
He nodded wisely. “We have three editions: men, women and couples. The couples DVD package is fifty percent off this week. That’s two DVDs for one.”
“You say there’s a guarantee?”
The clerk nodded.
Unable to resist a bargain but still feeling somewhat dubious Ellen handed him her credit card.
That Saturday she cooked Bob a special birthday dinner. As they enjoyed their demitasse, she gave him his presents: a sky blue cashmere sweater, travel slippers, two mysteries by his favorite author and the couples’ weight loss DVD set.
When he opened it, he frowned. “You want me to exercise? You think I’m getting fat?”
“No,” she smiled. “I want you to last. It’s as simple as that. Plus from what I’ve read about it on line I think you’ll enjoy the holographic android fusion. It’s the latest high tech craze from Europe.”
She kissed him and gave him a wink hinting at promises to come. “Give it a try while I go do the dishes and fix us something special for dessert.”
He put the men’s program in their DVD. The sound of cool jazz filled the room. The TV screen brightened. Bob found himself standing at the bar in Rick’s café from the movie Casablanca. Rick, looking dour in his white diner jacket, glanced over at him. Sam played old standards on the piano; people stood at the bar, drinking cocktails.
A lean blond in a flowing robe smiled and introduced herself to him. “Good evening, I’m Lili Marlene.” Much to his surprise she stepped from the TV screen into their living room and embraced him.
He looked around. Somehow their living room had become the dance floor of Rick’s Café.
“You’re so adorable.” Her accent was gently European. “Get ready my darling for the thrill of a lifetime.” She flung off her robe, revealing a toned body caressed by a peach colored bikini.
She led him onto the dance floor. The piano played faster; the beat intensified. She pulled him off his feet and twirled him round. Then she grabbed his waist and twisted him back and forth as though he were a rag doll. Finally she pressed herself to him, leading him into an intricate tango as she pulled him across the floor.
Looking deeply into his eyes she said, “You are such a graceful, handsome man.” Feeling both flattered and challenged, he breathed a little more deeply and tried to keep up.
The piano playing grew louder. Bob’s feet were somehow moving faster, keeping up with the pace she had set. Next she led him through a highly rhythmic bolero. His hips began to ache.
Suddenly to his horror she had acquired a bright red cape and was brandishing a bullwhip.
“Dance,” she cried cracking the whip at his toes. Despite his exhaustion he moved as quickly as he could. “Pay no attention to your body.” She cracked her whip again. He found himself jumping up and down to avoid the stinging lash.
As she flicked the whip, she laughed uproariously, “Dance for me my darling, dance your heart out.”
Her taunts and the ever present whip forced him to move even faster. He had no idea how he was managing to keep up.
After nearly an hour of these holographic acrobatics the music slowed. The cape and whip vanished. She embraced him, holding him close as they swerved into a Straus waltz. Finally she released him. Gasping for breath he fell into his easy chair.
“Darling you were magnificent. And tomorrow we will try new dances.” She threw him a kiss, stepped back and faded from the screen.
Ellen walked into the room. Every thing’s cleaned up and I made us a special dessert for later.” Then she looked at him. “You’re sweating. Good for you.”
“Your turn,” he gasped. “You might get a big a surprise too.”
She looked at him oddly. “Do tell?”
“I’m going to shower. See you when you’ve finished.”
She put in the women’s version. Much to her surprise amidst loud noise and raucous music their living room somehow transformed into a Western Saloon. A big burly cowboy in tight black leather jumped off the screen and grabbed her around the waist. The music was bouncy and twangy. He took her hands and began dancing furiously around the room. Then with one hand he tossed her into the air, catching her and whirling her round and round. Her body quivered as he led her through a demanding series of complicated twists and turns. These alternated with fast stepping polka style spurts of movement that took them around and around the room.
By the end of the session she was ready to collapse. She felt a strange difference within her body energy.
“You come back tomorrow,” he said, “and we’ll make more pretty hot music together.”
By the end of the month Bob’s belly was a thing of the past. He seemed younger, lighter on his feet and to her delight infinitely more interested in Ellen.
Much to Bob’s pleasure a trim Ellen had taken to buying shoestring bikinis and imported sheer silk lingerie which she especially enjoyed modeling for him.
That spring they donated the DVD to their church auction.

How To Attract Spirits
If you watch ghost hunting shows, by now you’ve probably noticed something interesting. Certain investigators seem to attract action. Others seem to be forever waiting for an encounter.
I’ve known a wide variety of people who have “attracted” strangeness on ghost hunts. They seem like “ghost magnets.” Sometimes, it’s a combination of two people who separately maybe don’t do much, but together have a strange attraction for action. That says a lot about their relationship and its chemistry.
Let’s break down some of the commonalities I’ve found in ghost magnets:
They usually have a spiritual base. I’m not talking a religious commitment. I’m talking about a universal way of seeing the world and a connection with everyone in it, as well as a sense of responsibility for other humans. They’re the first to offer someone to jump in the grocery line ahead of them. They’re able to feel deeply but also keep a perspective that this too shall pass and in the end life is ups and downs and a ride not a conveyor belt. They make patient parents, sometimes social workers, nurses, ambulance attendants, teachers, and artists. Often times, they’re very sensitive to other people’s feelings. They are at their happiest making a stranger smile. Some might call them empathic.
They are exceedingly patient. They can sit for hours in a room without moving, without talking, just soaking it in until the room is “one” with them. It’s a meditative process in which the boundaries of their body reaches out and feels the corners of the room, as if pushing their aura outward so that if something moves in the northeast corner of the room, they can almost feel it in their body. They come to understand the moods and sounds of the room. There are no expectations, no demands, just the process of being. This normally takes a level of maturity with life and comfort in your own skin to attain this kind of attraction for spirits. The restless energy and manipulative inward-focused emotional aspects of youth sometimes works against them. You need a “wise old soul” no matter what age.
They are folksy and amiable. Sit down, shoot the breeze, be casual and friendly, the average “Joe” (or “Jane”). Like attracts like. You gently invite someone in, they gently arrive. You yell and taunt, you drive it away. You know the saying “attracting more flies with honey than vinegar.” It really does apply in ghost hunting. The concept of pissing something off might work in this world. The loud people do get the most attention. However, in the spirit world the need for anger and pettiness is certainly no longer necessary. You don’t yell at the person doing you a favor by communicating. In other words, if you wouldn’t talk to your friend this way, don’t talk to a stranger this way.
Often times, they have had near-death experiences or psychic abilities. That’s probably a no-brainer, but the fact is that a good deal of life experience including some extremes of the human condition can make a person more sensitive. It can even include people who have had an emotional upset that was devastating, an out of body experience, psychic abilities, emotional empathic abilities, precognition, and telekinesis. Just as psychics better access information from others that the rest of the population doesn’t even notice, they too can touch the other side.
Ultimately, it is the intent upon which you ghost hunt that shows through the most. It’s a kind of spiritual karma.
When I go on a ghost investigation, my extremely logical mind has to be suspended long enough to be able to accept subtle signals and psychic information. I sit with the place, let it get used to my presence. I think in my mind about what it would be like to desperately want to communicate with visitors and not be able to adequately accomplish the task. I try to give the spirits the chance to find easy methods to let us know they’re there.
Some utilize meters, others put down baby powder, and some hang simple chimes or blast a room with fog or laser grids. Think in terms of the logistics of how something without form might affect something else and the first things that come to mind are air patterns and electrical, tensile sensations on our skin, barometric pressure, and the like.
Quite honestly, nothing beats the human receiver when it has to do with communication with the other side. No tools are consistent or effective, yet we upon occasion see, hear, smell, and feel them.
We don’t need to speak out loud, but sometimes it helps us feel we are making a real communication and it also helps us to focus on the questions more fully.
I will be honest, I don’t take a lot of stock in electrical-measurement devices. I have had a KII meter that went on and off to a conversation and later we realized that the air conditioner 10 feet away was turning on and off and when it was on, the meter blinked. We tested it many times to find that the meter was reacting to the unit. Unless you have a shielded environment, electrician tools are not something we can confirm or deny the results.
I don’t like to be hounded by questions from a stranger and I can ascertain that neither would a spirit form. So, I begin by chit chatting about myself, my life, my up’s and down’s, challenges that day, relationship with family. I talk about being lonely or frustrated, dreams I still wish to obtain before this life cycle is over. I might toss out some questions upon pausing such as, “My son makes me very proud, but I miss him. He lives across town and is a busy new dad. Do you ever miss your kids?”
I basically carry on a conversation as I would with anyone else, instead of “how old are you?” “what is your name?” and the dreaded, “when did you die?” I include my name, occupation, where I live, where I came from originally. I might comment on the location and what I think of it. I might mention things people feel particularly strong about like being southern or northern….
You know the philosophy of talking down a kidnapper by using the hostage’s name a lot, making that person real so they are less likely to want to take their life? Well, consider this when talking with the spirit world. Let them know the kind of person you are, so you can be less threatening and more relate-able.
If there are bigger questions you want to ask, get the small talk and introduction done well before you delve deeper.
At this point, you can ask permission before entering a room.
“Hey, is it okay if I go in here?”
Perhaps you get more inventive.
“Do you know the words to this song?” (start to sing a song of their era and the stop, allowing them to completely the melody).
You can get more personal.
“If I tell you what I’m afraid of, will you tell me what you’re afraid of?”
The whole process of attracting spirit energy is a complex one. Many spiritualists and wiccans have their own methods, as do mediums and channelers. The average Joe and Jane need not believe it’s out of their reach. The fact is, the best ghost magnets I’ve ever known were open-minded, logical, highly intelligent people with only a broad sense of the spiritual about them.
So, go forth and learn to attract. It’s kind of like getting that date from a chance meeting, it’s partially your appearance (your age, sex, coloring, whatever) that makes an entity trust you (why having a diverse team is good) and part is simply being human, honest, friendly, and trustworthy.
Lastly, I can’t emphasize enough how much a sense of humor is appreciated. I sometimes laugh hard during team conversation time when we’re on an investigation. It might seen unprofessional, but in those moments when you’re hanging out and shooting the breeze to make an inviting environment, the number one attraction is always humor. The minute we start laughing, magic occurs. It has never failed us and I think I know why.
We are drawn to the sound of laughter and what it implies, that fun is being had and a place is safe and full of family and friends. Laughter is the equivalent of breaking bread in making people feel part of a group.
Also, by feng shui rules, if you wanted to attract spirits you might create more darkness, clutter, and block pathways for energy to move freely and you might hang wind chimes in the southwest corner of your home.
Geomagnetic storms/solar flares: In studying active nights of investigations, I have found that during a geomagnetic storm – the effect upon the earth’s atmosphere from solar flares, seems to correlate. As well, things such as negative ions created by moving water, air purifiers, even salt lamps can aid in being in a state of mind to help one be more receptive to the signs.
It’s not a science, attracting the spirit realm and, to tell the truth, the greatest portion of it involves being present and in the moment. Many investigations have activity happening right and left and only some people picking it up because others look away, close their eyes, are deep in thought and don’t hear something.
The reason we often experience ghosts coming in and out of sleep in the bedroom is that our mind has some time in alpha wave state. That state seems to make us much more perceptive to hauntings. It may not be that people necessarily attract more spirits, but that they are better at perceiving their presence. On nights with geomagnetic storms, even “non-psychic” people are having experiences. So, the activity could be around us all the time, but only at key times and conditions do we pick it up. But, for some of us unusually “lucky” souls, we are attuned much of the time.

The Crystals of Medjugorje
Medjugorje (which means “between the hills”), is a small mountain town located in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Herzegovina region, close to the border of Croatia. Since June 24, 1981, it has become a popular religious pilgrimage due to reports of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to six local children. This is my second journey to this peaceful place and once again, it has left me with joy and tranquility and how the magic of nature plays such a major role in any sacred place.
Just before sunrise, we walked to the base of Apparition Hill. It is here on this hill, that the Blessed Virgin Mary or Gospa, as the locals refer to her as, has been appearing to the six children, (the visionaries), Ivan, Jakov, Marija, Mirjana, Vicka, and Ivanka have been receiving messages from Our Lady, in the beginning on a daily basis. Our Lady began to give weekly messages on Thursdays to the parish community in Medjugorje, and through them to the rest of the world. Since some of the things that Our Lord desired were fulfilled, from the 25th of January 1987 onwards, Our Lady would give her monthly message on the 25th of each month. This has continued up until the present.
Crnica Hill is several hundred feet above the neighboring Bijakovici town called Podbrdo, but today called Apparition Hill. The journey to the top is a dangerous path of sharp and jagged limestone. This porous rock dissolves relatively easily by rain, winter ice and the thousands of pilgrims that climb the mountain wearing down the stone over time. This action creates holes and sharp edges. Some people climb the mountain barefoot, perhaps to feel and understand how the pain of life can be transformed through understanding. It is said that the footsteps of pilgrims climbing this hill has worn a “rosary” into the hillside. In deed, at night, behind St, James’ Church, you can see the side of the hill light by lights that show this “path of the rosary”.
The “5 Stones” or Messages
In one of her messages, the Virgin Mary, suggested that “you put five stones into your sack in order to overcome the atheism that surrounds us, that paganistic mentality that is being disseminated and seems invincible.” In his article, Father Jozo Zovko , said “neither we nor the Church are capable of conquering materialism on our own. Our Lady has appeared in Medjugorje to declare that this is possible.”
Here are her five stones: prayer, fasting, the Eucharist, the bible and confession. With these simple weapons we overcome the world. In the book, Medjugorje, A Testimony, published by Misma Notebooks, 1989, the gifts, the five stones, have not been given to us as a gratuitous perfection, but in order to develop our spiritual potentialities, to cause the growth of the seeds, which will sprout forth if they fall upon fertile soil.
Prayer
Our Lady insists upon prayer. She wept when she appeared upon Krizevac, because Christians no longer pray. Her tears are a medication for you; they fall upon your heart made of stone in order to transform it. Our Lady tells us that to pray means to live as the Church lives.
Fasting
The second gift, another stone in your sack, is fasting: from cigarettes, from television, from an evil thought, from a negative project, and from food. Fasting demonstrates your individual capacity to love and affirms that you are important for everyone. Our weakness is nothing if we possess the ability to love. Even our own physical sufferings, if offered to the Lord, are a gift.
The Eucharist
The Eucharist is the third stone. In May, Our Lady admonished us, “You do not know how to live the Mass.” The Mass is not simply a rite; it is a mystery and a gift of the Lord. It is a sacrament which cannot be comprehended without humility.
The Bible
The Bible which illuminates the path in the dense fog of ideologies is the fourth stone for the believer of today. It must be the source of our prayer. The Bible illuminates a person’s walk amid doubt and conflicting ideologies today.
Confession
Confession is the fifth stone. Our Lady requests monthly confession of us. The purpose of confession is a sacrament and a source of peace with oneself in the meeting with the Lord. A proud person does not know how to confess; humility leads to confession and conversion.
The 5 Physical Stones or Crystals
It is also no coincidence, that stones play a central role in Mejugorje. They are the main attraction on the mountain and because of this, the stones and soil of Apparition Hill are hand picked and made into beautiful rosaries, peace chaplets and decade bracelets. Real pieces of stone are available along the streets leading to the parish church. These healing tools can all be relevant in order to help one bring themselves closer to the goal of reaching heaven or a new spiritual place.
Limestone:
This is an assisting stone used to enhance healing properties, encourages purification, reminds us of our innocence, grounds and centers us and entices positive thoughts. Due to its grounding make-up of clay, sand, organic remains, iron oxide and other materials, many limestones exhibit different colors, especially on weathered surfaces. Therefore, the color of the limestone can help assist with colors of the Auric field and Chakra centers. Red and tan stones for the Base or Root Chakra, orange for the Sacral/Spleen Chakra and so on. Limestone is the root of many crystals including, agate, calcite, dolomite, lapis and Septarian, just to name a few. Therefore, it takes on the metaphysical properties of its additional minerals. This is why limestone is such a mult-dimensional stone.
Dolomite:
The Dinaric Alps or Dinarides is a mountain chain which spans from Italy in the northwest, over Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro to Albania in the southeast. The Dinarides are named after Mount Dinara (1,913 m), a prominent peak in the center of the mountain range on the border of Croatia and Bosnia. Dolomite is the one of the most prominent stones here. This stone soothes hurt, loneliness, and quells anxiety. Facilitates giving and receiving, generosity, spontaneity, creativity and an energy uplift. This stone encourages charitable actions. It is used for energy alignment, balance and energy blockage. The lesson this crystal teaches is that “everything happens for a reason“. This is one of my favorite stones for encouraging original thought, therefore, it is wonderful for inventors, writers, artists and those looking for creative spark. On an emotional and spiritual level, it brings stability (due to its calcium content) and is a great stone to use to help soothes grief and sadness on every level.
Blue Quartz:
This is sited in Judy Hall’s wonderful book, Crystals and Sacred Sites. Blue Quartz is colored by several minerals including Boulangerite, which happens to be a rare mineral found near Medjugorje. Judy also chose this stone for its spiritual connections. It helps you discover or increase your understanding of your spiritual nature. Has a calming effect upon the mind and stimulates hope. A good healing stone for linking heart with Throat and Brow Chakra to expand self expression and creativity, plus refining communication skill to new levels. It is a useful stone for anyone going through change. It inspires hope and creativity and helps one in astral travel or out of body experiences. This beautiful blue stone helps to transport you to a peaceful, tranquil space of inner contemplation and soul knowledge.
Blue Lace Agate:
This is my choice for this wonderful association with Medjugorje (or any Marian site), as the white lines or veins of this stone represent the veil of the Virgin Mary as does the blue coloring representing her girdle. Blue Lace Agate helps to focus on the inner source of love within you that transforms and heals all wounds. Contains the qualities of flight, air, movement, and grace. Highly inspirational when working with the inner self. Works well with not only the Throat Chakra, but the Heart, Third Eye and Crown Chakra. This nurturing stone connects one to any powerful, feminine energy.
Azurite:
This is considered the “stone of heaven”. This jewel of wisdom symbolizes insight and discovery. It is said to increase psychic abilities. Azurite activates the Brow and Throat Chakra for more assertive communication and alertness. It allows for quite, deep access to the subconscious and as a seeing stone offers access to other times, places and lives. Therefore, it is a great stone to assist in astral travel. It is a stone that stimulates creativity, giving access to a fountain of ideas, images and awareness of things around us. This is a wonderful stone for decisiveness and decision making. Keep this around when you have important choices to make. It is the stone for deeper insight and seeing truths.
