Multiple Personality Day
Spell Date: Sunday, March 5, 2017

This is Multiple Personality Day. It refers to more than one soul sharing a body. Though it is often considered a disorder, it’s possible for plural people to be healthy. Some cultures considered this a sign of strong magical ability, like three-in-one deities.

Closely related are aspected personalities, in which the parts of the personality are distinct yet not separate, like the facets of a crystal. Many models describe aspects of consciousness such as the “thinking self” and “primal self.” People also have different roles based on work, family, and religion. It’s important for those pieces to work together.

Today, light a pyramid candle with three sides. Meditate on the parts of your personality and say:

“By this light I balance myself. I seek harmony within and teamwork among all the selves that I am. So mote it be.”

Stillness and Quiet
Spell Date: Saturday, March 4, 2017

In this busy world, we are constantly bombarded with stimuli. Our serenity is invaded with intrusions from our devices, our cities and towns, and our own thoughts. Sometimes we just want to run screaming, “Stop the madness, and stop this merry-go-round so I can get off!”

Even though life seems to gallop along at a frenetic pace, the world does slow down just a bit in the early morning hours, allowing us to pause and remember we are truly spiritual beings having a human experience.

This spell requires nothing more than some frankincense incense, some soft, inspiring music, and a willingness to rise before dawn.

Don’t speak to anyone. Light your incense. Play your music. Sit quietly as you meditate on these words:

“Silence is golden, music is soothing. My soul is renewed.”

House Blessing
Spell Date: Friday, March 3, 2017

As magickal folk, we may be called upon to cleanse or bless homes or other properties. And, of course, we can bless our own homes, too.

For this spell, you’ll need a smudge stick, matches, bread, wine (or grape juice), a quartz crystal, and salt. Begin by smudging the house, first outside and then in, moving deosil (sunwise) and opening the doors and windows if possible.

Next, offer bread to the homeowner,
saying:

“This is so you will never be hungry.”
Offer the wine: “This is so you will never thirst.”
Offer the crystal: “This will fill your home with energy.”
Offer the salt: “This will bring flavor to your life.”
Finish with: “So shall it be!”

Enjoy the bread and wine together in the freshly blessed home, scattering a few small pieces of bread and a saucer of wine outdoors for the wee folk.

Personal Growth
Spell Date: Thursday, March 2, 2017

As you explore the Pagan path, you will grow—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But sometimes it may seem like you are getting nowhere. What did you do, where did you wander off, or did you make a wrong turn? More often than not, it is just a miscalculation and nothing serious.

The best way to track what you are doing is to keep a journal. Some call it a Book of Shadows; others call it a notepad or journal. You can blog, keep an e-file, or use a composition book and a pencil and write it all down the old-fashioned way.

When you get to a point where you are not sure about something, these references can be valuable tools in figuring out what to do next. Read where you have been, and you will see how you have grown. You will find a clue as to where you need to go next.

Wish for Something New
Spell Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2017

March seems to bring with it hope and a sense of renewal. We know winter will end soon. It’s not surprising that according to the ancient Roman calendar, this was New Year’s Day. This spell will bring something new into your life. You’ll need the following supplies:

* A pen
* A sheet of paper
* An envelope
* A photo representing your wish
* A purple candle

First, write your wish on the paper. Then place the paper and photo in the envelope, but don’t seal it yet. Next, light the candle. Gaze at the flame and visualize your wish coming true. When you feel the time is right, close the envelope and seal it by dribbling some of the warm candle wax on it. Snuff out the candle. At Ostara, open the envelope to release the spell’s energy. Continue working toward your goal until you achieve your desire.

Money Jar
Spell Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017

Fat Tuesday, traditionally, is about excess. We overdo the eating and drinking before a time of abstinence. While we do not necessarily adhere to the abstinence part, we can relate to the idea of having a little extra to protect against a time of shortage.

Set up a small jar or container in which to dump pocket change in a place in your home under the watchful eyes of the gods. Allow the gods to smile down upon your efforts to ensure you have enough when the lean times come. Empty your pocket change into the jar daily or weekly and just let it accumulate.

If the jar overflows, put the money in the bank. If you find yourself short on cash, take what you need. The gods reward those who work on helping themselves. I have always found enough spare change for what I need in my money jar.

Spell to Renew Good Health
Spell Date: Monday, February 27, 2017

Do something today that is good for your health. Add new fruits or vegetables to your diet or begin an exercise program. Light a green or white candle and visualize your specific need or just focus on general well-being. If you’re having trouble staying on track with a health plan such as diet or exercise, charge a piece of jewelry as you light the candle and wear it as a reminder of your goal. Chant:

“As this candle burns, Vibrant health returns. Energy improved, Wellness be renewed.”

Allow the candle to burn out, or burn it for a few hours each day until it’s spent.

Heartwings Love Notes 766 Thrifty Living Makes Sense

When I was a child a friend of my mother’s gave me the dresses that her twins had outgrown. Because they were dressed alike, I had to wear two of whatever came my way. Thrift meant making do with what was available. There was a war on and many things were rationed. Later my mother had to stretch what my father earned to cover the needs of the three more children born after I was eight years old. How excited I was when in my sixteenth year I got a pair of Bermuda shorts. They were newly fashionable and I felt special to have a pair. Although they were wool, I wore them all that summer and for a number of summers after that. For a long time they were my only pair.

Growing up in a thrifty household inclined me toward a thrifty lifestyle as an adult. When I was raising my own family of five children I had to stretch our food dollars to try to nourish as well as please my family. I learned all kinds of tricks to make inexpensive cuts of meat palatable and I baked cookies by the dozen so the children would have treats. Home made was far less expensive than store bought. My sewing machine hummed as I made dresses for my daughters and even some outfits for my sons when they were small.

Judging from the advertisements I see today, thrift is not especially fashionable. Bargains, of course are. However what is considered a bargain by some standards is not by others. When I was growing up the annual church fairs were the best places to find inexpensive, serviceable garments. I do not remember there being any other places one could find good second hand clothing at that time. When we got together I introduced Stephen to consignment and thrift store shopping, and he embraced it happily. I find it more fun to shop that way because you never know what you will find, and the prices are far more reasonable than what regular stores charge.

Over the years I have amassed a wonderful collection of clothing. Much of it has come from consignment or thrift stores, the rest from sales. Certain garments have endured the test of time and I wear them joyfully in the appropriate season. Others get rotated back into the mainstream to be discovered by someone else who enjoys saving money by shopping wisely. What is even nicer is that now I can have a number of pairs of shorts for the price I would pay for one bought new, or a cashmere sweater that someone has passed on, at a fraction of the cost in a regular store. For me this is a kind of payback for the days when I wore the twins’ hand me down dresses over and over again.

May you find ways to be thrifty and enjoy the results of your efforts.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

PS Please feel free to share your stories with me, I love to hear them. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions I would be so happy to receive them. It is my joy to hear from readers.

Domestic Tranquility: The Fly Swatter

We were enjoying our breakfast one Saturday morning as we perused the current batch of catalogues that had found their way into our mailbox.
Tasha sighed. “This is a shocking waste of resources. Imagine cutting down trees to print this stuff. If I thought it would do any good, I’d write to these companies and have our name taken off their lists.” She waved one at me. “Who would want to buy these elaborate utensils or appliances? Their only function is to prepare rich, fattening appetizers and desserts.”
“Be careful,” I said. “There’s always that one special item that could prove invaluable.”
“Like what,” she asked as she poured us a second cup of tea.
I held up a page to show her. “Well there’s this wonderful telescoping bright red flyswatter.”
“What on earth would you want one of those for?”
“To swat flies, especially when they gang up on us and attack just as we’re falling asleep.”
“But we have the Bugzooka; that should take care of flies. And it doesn’t kill them either, it just traps them, and then I can put them back outside where they belong.”
I shook my head. “Tasha the Bugzooka is fine for lazy moths with less than perfect vision but a fly has eyes in the back of its head. Besides, I’ve never caught one yet using it.”
Tasha looked surprised. “You haven’t? I have, lots of them.” Then she looked at me seriously. “You mean you’d swat a fly?” Her expression was a merge of indignation and surprise.
“Yes I would.”
“How could you?”
“Quite easily. What’s so hard for you to get about a fly swatter?”
“Well it kills them. It’s almost as bad that dreadful flypaper.” She shuddered. “I remember that from when I was a kid.”
“What do you mean? You’d want me to strike them softly, knock them out and whisk them off the deck?”
Her face turned sad. “It isn’t a nice thing to do, killing a poor defenseless insect that way.”
“I’m sorry but I’m not the Dali Lama. He’s led a life of peaceful contemplation. For him it’s easy to send friendly messages to go away and leave him alone.”
“And you couldn’t do that?”
“Not yet, Maybe in another lifetime if I start practicing now.”
She sighed. “Well they don’t bother me.”
“Sweetheart your spiritual depth far exceeds mine. You’re holy. You have a direct connection to angels. I’m just a mere human and it’s people like me who buy flyswatters. Look at this.” I pointed to the illustration. “It extends, so reaching for a high altitude fly is easier than jumping up and trying to catch it in my hands.”
“And you think it’s all right to just do that?”
“Millions of people have flyswatters and as far as I know none of them will end up in purgatory because of it.”
She smiled. “But that’s only conjecture. You really don’t know what happens to people who kill flies once they enter the hereafter.”
“True but I’m willing to take that gamble. Besides the flyswatter is only five dollars plus it’s red. What could be better than that?”
She got up and began clearing the dishes. “Ignoring them and politely asking them to go away.”
“You mean inflicting them upon our neighbors. That doesn’t seem kind at all. Besides flies carry germs and if they land on our food… Right there….”
“Not if I cover it carefully or put it away.”
“This wonderful telescoping flyswatter is only five dollars. That seems inexpensive for something so extremely useful and worth while.”
She sat back down and looked at me. “Well, I certainly wouldn’t tell you not to buy it if it really makes you happy to kill the poor things.”
“What do you mean poor things? I’m protecting us from the possibility of pestilence. Flies are notorious for carrying disease.”
“I really think you need to rethink what you’re saying. To me you have always been daring and resourceful, a man of wit and charm not some thoughtless elderly person rushing about the apartment waving a flyswatter. Why that could almost be thought of as delusional behavior. Next thing you’ll say we need to own a gun.”
“That’s ridiculous.”
She shook her head. “No, it’s only a matter of degree–first a fly swatter, then poisonous sprays–things like that can get out of hand quickly.”
“All right I won’t buy it.” I looked again at the picture of the wonderful red flyswatter. “But once the fly season starts I’ll leave it to you to stop them in their tracks.”
She nodded. “I’ll have my trusty Bugzooka at the ready, never fear.”
“Do you realize we’re bickering over a five dollar fly swatter?”
“It isn’t the money. That has nothing to do with it. It’s the principle of interfering with nature.”
“We can also use it to kill spiders.”
“Oh dear you must never kill a spider. That is very bad luck. Just show it to me and I’ll take it outside.”
“Sure, if you get to it before it bites you. I see no reason why we must become victims of flies and spiders. Next thing you’ll tell me is not to put down ant traps next spring. We should just let them take over our kitchen.”
“That’s right, I don’t think using dangerous poisons to kill harmless insects is the way to go.”
I sighed. “What do you want me to do, buy an ant eater? Train it as a household pet just so we can feel environmentally superior?”
“Now you’re being silly.”
“They eat flies too. I realize, though we can’t buy an ant eater at the mall.”
She giggled. “I’m sure an ant eater costs considerably more than a five dollar flyswatter. Besides, it’s a wild creature and probably it’s illegal to own one. I’ve never seen one in a pet shop or even read about private ownership of ant eaters.”
“Never mind. Forget this entire conversation. It doesn’t matter. No need for us to get Biblical.”
Thank you. And I’m not getting Biblical. I’m just trying for us to avoid a worse situation.”
“Never mind.” I repeated. “I give up. Throw the catalogue out, and next time we meditate send welcoming messages out to the universe inviting whatever winged creatures to come visit us.”
“Now I know you’re teasing me,” she said with a laugh. “Why would I want to do that? No, I’ll buy you the fly swatter for a birthday present and we’ll see who can get to them first, you with the swatter or me with the Bugzooka.”

Competing with Yourself
By Madisyn Taylor

When we are satisfied with our life, we do not look for experiences of winning and losing to define our self-worth.
The urges that drive us to compete with others tend to be straightforward. Years of both evolution and societal influences have shaped us to pit ourselves against our peers. The needs and desires that inspire us to compete with ourselves, however, are entirely personal and thus far more complex. A need to outdo our earlier efforts–to confirm that we have grown as individuals–can motivate us to reach new heights of accomplishment. We are capable of using our past achievements as a foundation from which we venture confidently into the unknown. Yet if this drive to compete with our former selves is the result of low self-worth or a need to prove ourselves to others, even glowing successes can feel disheartening. Examining why we compete with ourselves enables us to positively identify those contests that will enrich our existence.

There are many reasons we strive to outdo ourselves. When we are ambitious in our quest for growth, we are driven to set and meet our own expectations. We do not look to external experiences of winning and losing to define our sense of self-worth. Rather, we are our own judges and coaches, monitoring our progress and gauging how successful we have become. Though we seek the thrill of accomplishment tirelessly, we do so out of a legitimate need to improve the world or to pave the way for those who will follow in our footsteps. Be careful, though, that your competitiveness is not the result of an unconscious need to show others that you are capable of meeting and then exceeding their standards.

Consider, too, that successful efforts that would be deemed more than good enough when evaluated from an external perspective may not satisfy our inner judge, who can drive us ruthlessly. In order to attain balance, we have to learn the art of patience even as we strive to achieve our highest vision of who we are. When we feel drained, tense, or unhappy as we pursue our goals, it may be that we are pushing ourselves for the wrong reasons. Our enthusiasm for our endeavors will return as soon as we recall that authentic evolution is a matter not of winning but of taking pride in our progress at any pace.

Spell for Gentle Communication
by witchoflupinehollow

As most of you know, I’ve been focusing more on astrology in my practice lately and have even started offering Moon Sign Readings. Our moon signs deeply resonate with who we are in our souls, not just the shiny exterior we present to the world.

With my moon in fiery Aries, I tend to run a bit hot! Especially since my breakup two months ago, I have been a bit short-tempered and have been butting heads with coworkers. For the new moon and solar eclipse in Pisces a few days ago, I set an intention to be kinder, more thoughtful and to think more deeply about my words and actions before I let them out into the universe.

To put a little extra oomph behind this intention, I enacted a little spell. I joke a lot about carrying crystals in our pockets but despite my cynicism, they can be wonderful little reminders of the intentions we have set!

This spell utilizes chrysocolla, which is a beautiful little turquoise-colored stone associated with communication and harmony. The spell also uses lavender, one of the most calming herbs and a staple in any witch’s cabinet.

Spell for Gentle Communication
• Small chrysocolla stone
• Lavender buds
• Glass jar
1. Sit in a comfortable position at your altar. Hold the crystal in your hands and close your eyes. Envision yourself in various situations, communicating in the manner you would like to: calmly, clearly and gently.
2. When you are ready and feel the stone is sufficiently infused with your intentions, pour some lavender buds into the glass jar, enough so the bottom of the jar is covered.
3. Place the chrysocolla stone in the jar and shake it gently so the lavender buds settle around it.
4. Charge under the dark of the new moon or light of the full moon.
5. Carry the stone with you to remind you of your intentions.

We Are All Connected
By Madisyn Taylor

Being aware of the connection between all things can help you in terms of the broader effect you may be creating.

There are times when we may feel disconnected from the world. Our actions can seem like they are of no major consequence, and we may feel like we exist in our own vacuum. Yet, the truth is that our simplest thought or action – the decisions we make each day, and how we see and relate to the world – can be incredibly significant and have a profound impact on the lives of those around us, as well as the world at large. The earth and everything on it is bound by an invisible connection between people, animals, plants, the air, the water, and the soil. Insignificant actions on your part, whether positive or negative, can have an impact on people and the environment that seem entirely separate from your personal realm of existence. Staying conscious of the interconnection between all things can help you think of your choices and your life in terms of the broader effect you may be creating.

Think of buying a wooden stool. The wood was once part of a tree which is part of a forest. A person was paid to fell the tree, another to cut the wood, and yet another to build the stool. Their income may have had a positive effect on their families, just as the loss of the tree may have had a negative impact on the forest or the animals that made that tree their home. An encouraging word to a young child about their special talent can influence this person to develop their gift so that one day their inventions can change the lives of millions. A poem written “merely” to express oneself can make a stranger reading it online from thousands of miles away feel less alone because there is someone else out there who feels exactly the way they do.

Staying conscious of your connection to all things can help you think of your choices in terms of their impact. We are powerful enough that what we do and say can reverberate through the lives of people we may never meet. Understanding that you are intimately connected with all things and understanding your power to affect our world can be the first step on the road to living more consciously.

About The Morning Feast and Goddessschool.com – The teachings here are based
on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not
separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the
ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman
is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the
tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
