In the Northern Hemisphere, the seasonal powers are about to move through the door of the quickening, also known as Imbolc, Brighid, and Candlemas. Even if you are not in the Northern Hemisphere, this spell will work at any time of the year, or you could wait for August in the Southern Hemisphere.
Take a white candle and a dark ceramic bowl. Ground, center, and align yourself. Drop more deeply into your breath and begin to rock or sway back and forth or side to side. Feel the rhythm of the power that begins to move. It is almost like a serpent. Light the candle and gaze down into the bowl (the well) when you feel entranced and chant:
“Candle and well, This holy spell. Open the gate, For my vision awakes.”
Open to perceive with your intuition. When you are finished, ground and eat something salty and dark.

Happiness and Prosperity

Today marks the start of the year of the Rooster. Before alarm clocks, the rooster’s crow woke people in time for work. The rooster is associated with punctuality and attention and wards off evil spirits.
Traditional Chinese New Year greetings include the Cantonese phrase Kung hei fat choi, which translates to “happiness and prosperity.” The color red wards off bad luck and misfortune, and many Chinese wear red underwear at the New Year and hang red lanterns in their home.
Use red paper to make an offering envelope, carefully folding and gluing it. If you live in an urban area, you’ll find red envelopes in most dollar stores. Because 5, 7, and 8 are lucky numbers for Rooster, enclose $5, $7, or $8 in the envelope and give it to a child or senior, bestowing a blessing on them. It’s believed that how you act today influences your luck for the year. Be generous and happy. Know prosperity.

Melodious Love Chimes

Today is the anniversary of Mozart’s birth. Why not celebrate while strengthening a love affair at the same time? Buy a set of wind chimes with a melodious tone to hang in your home. You will also need some jasmine oil. Place the chimes in your home where the two of you spend the most time. Holding the bottle of oil in your hands, charge it with the love that the two of you have for each other and then anoint the chimes every month or so to keep that energy fresh. At least once a day, stop and bump the chimes to make them “sing.”

Midnight Oil

Some people do their best work at night. Others don’t, but need to work at night anyway. Here is a spell for enhancing your accomplishments after dark. It gathers ambient energy from the sun and moon to aid you.
For this spell, you will need an oil lamp and some oil. The lamp doesn’t need to be big—you can use the candle-sized kind if you wish. First set the oil in a sunny place from dawn to dusk. Say over it:
“Hour by hour, Drink the sun’s power.
Then set the oil where it will be bathed by moonlight from dusk to dawn. Say over it:
“Hour by hour, Drink the moon’s power.”
Once the oil has been charged, fill the lamp with it. Whenever you’re working at night and need a boost, light the oil lamp and say:
“Now the time is right; Give to me the light.”

A Room of One’s Own

There’s no need to tell you how important it is to have a sacred space, a sanctuary. Make this the day you cleanse that room and perform a winter cleaning.
If possible, remove everything from the room and clean it with all-natural cleansers from ceiling to floor. Cleanse every item you return to the room, and replace anything worn or unused.
Or take this day to find and create a room in which to practice your craft. Should you be lucky enough to have options, ask your deity of choice to help you in choosing a room. A south-facing room is best, but work with what you have. Go all out and empty the room and then cleanse, paint, and refloor it, or merely cleanse it in whatever fashion you choose. Create an altar, and bring in a cabinet or chest of drawers for your supplies.
When you are done, relax, content with your work, in a room of your own. Say:
“Bless my work is all I ask. Ere I begin this sacred task. A strong back, no idle hand, Create with me a soft place to land.”

Tasha’s Astro Planner for February 2017
Besides the Sun’s normal move between Aquarius and Pisces on the 18th, only Mercury and Venus change signs this month. Mercury begins the month in organized, ambitious Capricorn helping us with good, spot on focus. On the 7th it enters original, out-of-the box Aquarius helping with inventions, clever solutions and altruistic ideas. Venus is briefly in compassionate Pisces and on the 3rd enters Fashion loving Aries, urging us to seek out what is new and original.
Mars in Aries all month encourages startups, new ways of doing, and beginnings of al kinds. Saturn still in Sagittarius may bring out pressure and structure on generosity. We begin February with no planets in retrograde motion. On the 6th Jupiter makes its station and turns retrograde indicating delayed rewards and/or the retracing of past relationships. The two eclipses this month are probably the most significant of the astrological events in February.
The Lunar Eclipse of the Full Moon in Leo takes place on the 10th, suggesting that we review and dispense with any outgrown love relationships or excessively egoic attitudes we may have developed. Examine attitudes toward children or those whom you may parent or treat like your children and assess your generosity-are you over-giving or manipulative in your attitudes? Do you give more than you receive and need to rebalance or reassess the relationship?
For the Solar eclipse of the New Mon in Pisces on the 26th, note that it is accompanied by a conjunction of Mars with Uranus and might be an explosive day. Check any bridges you are tempted to burn and postpone that action for a day or so to be quite sure it is appropriate On the other hand there is wonderful energy now for any new, compassionate, generous, spiritually oriented project you may wish to begin. If there are karmic issues of which you are aware, address them with positive action.
Days to be mindful include the1st and 2nd, with a Mercury/Jupiter square saying beware of exaggeration or even lies. On the 21st and 22nd an explosive Mars/Pluto square in forceful Aries/Capricorn might be useful if you wish to make difficult or stressful changes. This is a break-through aspect. Be flexible; if you encounter stress with resistance you may not fare well. On the 26th with the Solar Eclipse, Mars is conjunct Uranus in Aries. For best effect, this heavily loaded energy needs to be focused or channeled into the new and unusual.
Days to push your luck include opportunity sextiles on the 9th with Sun/Uranus, the 14th with Sun/Saturn, the 16th with Mercury/Mars, the 20th with Mercury/Uranus. Try new or different solutions and explore new potential. On the 10th and 11th a Sun/Jupiter trine brings a nice day to get married or just have fun. Heartwings Love Notes 761: The Eyes of Unconditional Love
Heartwings says, “When we look through the eyes of unconditional love we see much differently.”
My dear mother had an inherited critical outlook on life. Her mother made frequent remarks concerning how she as well as others looked. In her eyes one’s stomach was not supposed to be anything but flat as a pancake, one’s waist slender, etc. I wondered why my mother wore a girdle when she was quite thin. Then I learned it was because bulges were not to be tolerated. She used to try with little success to get me to wear one. They were so uncomfortable, I wouldn’t. Eventually she too stopped wearing them.
My father too had his viewpoint Once I acquired them my eyeglasses became an issue. I can hear him now as he aimed the camera, saying, “Take off your glasses and look pretty.” Thus whenever I was dressed up the glasses I wore from the third grade on became an issue for me, making me think I ought to take them off in order to look properly attractive. He was also particular about my hair, which was supposed to look smooth and symmetrical–properly arranged in a tidy manner.
My grandmother had very strong ideas about what it was to act like or to be a lady. When I was twelve, inspired by my first experience of being paid for it, I decided to earn money giving the puppet shows I wrote and performed for birthday parties. My grandmother quickly put an end to this, informing me that ladies didn’t work. She gave me a twenty-dollar bill and said; “Now you don’t have to earn money.” She had grown up in a household where as she once told me, if a log rolled off the fire she rang for a maid to come and put it back.
The critical eye that I inherited from my family persisted for a long time. It took me years to become aware of it. Then I had to learn to stop the little voice in my head that called attention to whatever deviation from the “norm” of beauty I perceived. To begin with I applied this to my view of others. Gradually I learned to do this for myself as well. The eyes of unconditional love do not see critically but with an understanding that for good reasons we are all perfect just the way we are. These days the eyes I see through are my own, and I look out upon the world with love. As well, when I look in the mirror now, I smile.

Using Sunflower Oil In Witchcraft

Magic oils are one of my favorite things to work with in witchcraft. You can use them on candles, stones, yourself… you can even use them to create magic paints! In magic oils, a base oil is always used for the majority of the concoction, and sunflower oil is my favorite to use It has natural energies perfect for health, wisdom, fertility, and wish magic.
And in my book, most all magic involves some sort of wish, so I find that I can almost always use it as a base. It is very inexpensive and lasts a really long time after it has been opened before you have to throw it out too – up two years actually!
This oil is sunny, and has a lively and warm energy. It’s even great used on it’s own for wisdom! If you want to keep yourself and your magic in check, try anointing your forehead with a little before performing a ritual for an extra dash of virtue. The Beginner’s Guide To Modern Magic

Make Change Work for You

When we experience change in our life we can control our response and reaction to the changes that are happening.
Transformation is a universal constant that affects our lives from the moment we are born until we leave earthly existence behind. At the root of all growth, we find change. Occasionally, change and the circumstances leading up to it are a source of extraordinary joy, but more often than not they provoke feelings of discomfort, fear, or pain. Though many changes are unavoidable, we should not believe that we are subject to the whims of an unpredictable universe. It is our response to those circumstances that will dictate the nature of our experiences. At the heart of every transformation, no matter how chaotic, there is substance. When we no longer resist change and instead regard it as an opportunity to grow, we find that we are far from helpless in the face of it.
Our role as masters of our own destinies is cemented when we choose to make change work in our favor. Yet before we can truly internalize this power, we must accept that we cannot hide from the changes taking place all around us. Existence as we know it will come to an end at one or more points in our lives, making way for some new and perhaps unexpected mode of being. This transformation will take place whether or not we want it to, and so it is up to us to decide whether we will open our eyes to the blessings hidden amidst disorder or close ourselves off from opportunities hiding behind obstacles.
To make change work for you, look constructively at your situation and ask yourself how you can benefit from the transformation that has taken place. As threatening as change can seem, it is often a sign that a new era of your life has begun. If you reevaluate your plans and goals in the days or weeks following a major change, you will discover that you can adapt your ambition to the circumstances before you and even capitalize on these changes. Optimism, enthusiasm, and flexibility will aid you greatly here, as there is nothing to be gained by dwelling on what might have been. Change can hurt in the short term but, if you are willing to embrace it proactively, its lasting impact will nearly always be physically, spiritually, and intellectually transformative.

“May I ask a favor of you?” Tasha asked me as we finished breakfast.
“What can I do for you?” I replied.
“Would you mind not hanging out the laundry this morning?”
“Not hanging out the laundry? Why not?”
“I’d rather do it myself,” she sighed. “When you do it, the clothes look messy on the racks and they don’t dry as fast.”
“You’re saying I lack style when it comes to hanging out the wash?”
“It’s more the way you bunch things up and then put the clothespins over them. Maybe, instead you could take care of the piles in the hall,” she said, beginning to clear away the dishes.
“What piles? Those aren’t piles! That’s my stuff!” I tried assuring her. “Books, articles, research materials, magazines. Everything in there is vital to me. Especially now that I’m doing art. I never know when I’ll need a particular color or design and can only find it on the cover of some old magazine.”
“Your piles could be considered a fire hazard.”
“First you tell me that you don’t like the way I put clothes-pins on the wet wash. Now you suggest that the hallway is a firetrap. Most people use their dryers you know. Not us! When it comes to the conveniences of homemaking we seem to be living back in the 19th century.”
“What do you mean?”
“You! I’m talking about you as a throwback to some sort of primitive frontier woman at home on the range. You don’t approve such modern conveniences as clothes dryers, cake mixes, electric blankets, microwaves, paper napkins, paper plates, or throw away plastic glasses.”
“So?”
“And I don’t mind, except that while I can appreciate your idiosyncratic behavior, you seem to have trouble accepting mine.”
“What do you mean? I think you’re wonderful!”
“You criticize the way I hang out clothes. You say my clothespin consciousness needs awakening. That makes me feel unappreciated. Do you realize that my mother would roll over in her grave if she knew I was helping you out this way? She’d criticize me for not being able to afford us help.”
“She was of another generation.”
“No doubt, but she got her message across big time. How do you think I feel when I see you vacuuming and dusting?”
“I hope you feel fine knowing I’m exercising and enjoying myself.”
“A part of me feels as though I should hire you a housecleaner.”
“I love doing it. Stretching and bending is good physical conditioning. If we had paid help, we’d have to join a health club to get such good exercise. Plus I accomplish something at the same time. To me this is more fun.”
“What’s fun about housework? That’s downright drudgery to me.”
“Fun is every moment of life with you. Fun is sharing and that includes cooking, cleaning and hanging out the laundry.”
“Even though you think I put too much hot pepper in the chili and my hanging out the wash lacks your sophisticated symmetry.”
“Even so. At least you’re willing to help. Now about those piles… Do you suppose we could set aside some time every day to diminish them somehow? Maybe we could sort through the magazines and take pages out that you think you’ll need.”
“How do I know what I’ll need until I need it?” I asked her as reasonably as I could. “It’s important to my creative process to have my stuff spread out and visible.”
“Oh. Well, I didn’t think about that. But what about the storage unit?”
“What about it?”
“It’s crammed with piles of old stuff, not art material.”
“That’s what storage units are for, to keep stuff in.”
“Can’t they be kept neatly?”
“Well, yes. Except that they’re not really visible so I don’t think much about them.”
“Neither do I except when I go there for something and all the clutter makes me feel nervous.”
“Why?”
