Ragnar Lodbrok Day – Ragnar was one of legend’s most famous Vikings. On this date in the year 845, he raided Paris. It just happened to be Easter Sunday – which as a pagan Viking, he did not pay too much attention to the Christian holidays. Toast Ragnar with a raised glass, and read from his saga.

Eka Dasa Rudra (an eleven-week-long Balinese festival consisting of thirty ceremonies) is held on this date approximately once every one hundred years to restore the balance between the forces of good and evil. The festival, which is ancient in origin, reaches a climax when thousands of pilgrims gather at the volcano temple to observe animal sacrifices made to appease the God Rudra. In Taiwan, the birthday of the Goddess Kwan Yin is celebrated annually on this date.

Great Goddess, thank you for helping me learn from the infinite well of wisdom that has always been present with me.

Make A Dammit Doll!

Dammit dolls are great and the best part is that you can shrink the size and make poppets. They also help get rid of scraps of materials.

What you need:

Scraps of Material
Stuffing–polyester or cotton
Old buttons for eyes and belly button
Yarn for hair
Paper to make a pattern

Make a pattern by folding the paper in half and cutting out a shape of
somewhat like a ginger bread man. I copied the shape from a small
cookie cutter that I had. It was easier to draw the shape first and then
cut it out. I found a nice fat shape looks better than a thin one.

After you have your pattern, use it to cut out two identical shapes. If
you like, use pinking shears to make a ragged edge. On one side, sew on
buttons for eyes and belly button. Using some yarn, attach the hair at
the top. I added a mouth to mine by using a cross-stitch pattern that my sewing
machine does.

Now, put wrong sides together and stitch around the edge, leaving an
opening to add the stuffing. Add stuffing,(don’t over stuff it) and
finish sewing up the opening.

Write the following poem on a piece of paper and attach it around his neck:

Whenever things don’t go so well…
And you want to hit the wall and yell…
Here’s a little dammit doll
That you can’t do without.
Just grasp it firmly by the legs
And find a place to slam it
And as you whack the stuffing out
Yell, “DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!”

Change of Luck Spell

To change your luck, if you feel you must, turn your clothing inside out or backward. This is an old gambler’s trick to change a losing streak, but it will also work if you are just having a bad day, as so many of us do on occasion. If, on the other hand, you find you already have a piece of clothing on inside out or backward, don’t change it unless things are going badly for you. A less obvious alternative, if it is too conspicuous to reverse your clothing, would be to take the contents of your right pocket and put them in your left pocket, and put the contents of your left pocket in your right pocket. Or, if you wear earrings, put your left earring in your right ear, and your right earring in your left ear. And so on and so forth; the possibilities are nearly endless.
