Llewellyn’s Spell A Day

Twin Towers Talisman Altar

Just about everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing on September 11, 2001. Honor the memory of the events of that fateful day with this talisman altar.

You will need three safety pins and twenty silver seed beads (with holes big enough so they can be threaded onto the pins). The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were tall and silvery; this talisman will mimic them in looks. Open the first safety pin and thread ten silver beads on the open needle as you recite these words:

Always remember, never forget,
The memory in my mind is set.

Repeat the process with the second safety pin. If you have some, light a stick of myrrh incense (to honor those who passed and their families) and dragon’s blood incense (to banish negativity), and pass the safety pins through the smoke. Thread the two pins onto the needle of the last safety pin. Wear this portable altar in honor of this solemn day.
Balancing Your Intuition

The full moon is a potent time for accessing intuitive wisdom, and basking in the moonlight can help you balance this spiritual faculty, blocking out unhelpful energies and amplifying beneficial insights.

Sitting in a comfortable meditative position in the moonlight, feel this energy bathing your aura with healing and cleansing. Focus on your crown chakra, and allow the moonlight to enter the crown, cascading gently through your chakras from crown to root. As the energy travels, intend that each chakra is in perfect balance, connecting you with intuitive messages in a manner aligned with your highest good.

You might sense some chakras expanding and opening, while others find equilibrium by screening out an excess of input. Trust that your energy knows how to self-balance. When the process feels complete, send gratitude to the moon. If needed, place your palms on the earth to ground any excess energy.
Blessed Feet, Blessed Path

Today the moon is in Pisces, the astrological sign that rules the feet. We often don’t give love to our feet like we do to other parts of our body, even though they transport us every day. This spell uses massage oil to bless our feet and ask that they lead us onto the right paths.

Sit in a chair and rest one foot on the opposite knee. Pour about a teaspoon of oil into one of your palms. Raise your palm close to your mouth and speak this spell aloud so that your breath causes the oil to move:

Healing hands and healing oil,
Allow all tension to uncoil.
A blessing on me, toes to heel,
Direct me to the paths ideal.

Join your hands and then wrap them around one foot. Massage it with slow strokes. After a few minutes, pour more oil, speak the spell again, and switch feet.
Plant for Tomorrow Spell

Now is the time to plant springblooming bulbs such as crocus, daffodils, and tulips. When you plant now for spring, it shows that you believe in tomorrow. The bulbs you plant now will appear dead, brown, and lifeless. But they contain the miracle of hidden life, which, like nature, will return in the spring. Within each bulb is the eternal life cycle: birth, death, and rebirth.

For this spell you’ll need some spring-blooming bulbs of your choice. As you plant, think about nature’s cycle. While planting, think or say:

The sun’s reign is about to end,
The dark season will soon begin.
There’s no need to grieve
or time for sorrow,
It’s time to plant and
believe in tomorrow.
I return these bulbs to Mother Earth,
To continue the cycle of birth,
death, and rebirth.

In the spring, you’ll enjoy seeing your belief come to life.
Demeter Offering

Perhaps it’s no mistake that National Beer Lover’s Day (today) falls in the middle of Virgo season, the sign symbolized by a virginal woman holding a sheaf of wheat. (It’s important to note that in the ancient world, virginal didn’t mean chaste but rather autonomous.) As the grain and earth mother, who is both fiercely protective and fiercely independent (so much so that she even rebelled against Zeus and won), Demeter is the quintessential Virgo. She is a powerful incarnation of the Great Mother Goddess and can be invoked for protection, prosperity, transformation, health, magical power, and healing from disordered eating. Today, light a brown, tan, or golden candle to Demeter. Place a glass of beer or barley water on your altar and pour one for yourself. Say:

Great Goddess Demeter, I call on you.
Great Goddess Demeter, I drink to
you. Please help me with _
(your intention). Thank you.

Mindfully drink your libation. Then extinguish the candle, go outside, and offer Demeter’s beverage to the earth.
Sparking a Connection

Tuesdays are a good time to work on romantic connections and relationships. If you have been unlucky in love, you can work on drawing to you the best partner.

First, on a piece of parchment paper, write down a list of characteristics you want in a partner. Be brutally realistic and honest with yourself. Next, create a sachet of love herbs. These can include cinnamon, apple, basil, thyme, clove, jasmine, and many more. Use the herbs you have on hand and that work for you. You can also add in some stones if you’d like, such as rose quartz. Burn the piece of parchment with your list of qualities on it. Add the ashes to your sachet and seal it up while you recite the following:

Let my one and only find their way and
hear my hope that they never stray.

Keep the sachet in your bedroom in a safe space.
All Hail Salt

Salt is a common crystal on Earth and one of the most sacred. We depend on sunshine and water to stay alive, but we need salt too. Our eyes weep salty tears, our hearts pump salty blood, and our unborn children float in salty wombs. Salt has been used medicinally, as currency, and in sacred offerings, and our salted oceans are cauldrons of life. It’s no wonder we attach such value to it.

Keep a vial of salt at hand, ready for a number of uses:

Purification: Bury magical tools in salt or bathe them in salt water.
Cleansing: Wash hands and face with salt water before ritual or spellcraft. Clean magical tools and spaces with salt solutions; sprinkle the solution to cleanse large spaces.
Setting space: Use salt to outline magical space, holding defined energies in or out.
Protection: Cast salt to create barriers or to protect doorways and thresholds.
Spellcraft: Include salt in spells and charms for abundance, protection, or wealth.

Full Harvest Moon
September 10, 2022

Time to say goodbye to Summer and welcome the arrival of Autumn which will be heralded by a Harvest Moon on Sept. 10, 2022 in Pisces. In traditional Skylore, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox, which will take place on Sept. 22. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. I just love the feeling that’s in the air and visible through the changing of the leaves.

However, because this full moon takes place across the zodiac in water sign Pisces, you’re being temporarily plunged deep into the ethereal world of your emotions. Pisces’ poetic and sensitive energy will amplify full moon feelings, making intuition just as important as observation, and making your fluffiest fantasies feel possible. However, it’s important not to get too carried away in your emotions — Mercury retrograde will be in full swing under this lunation, so it’ll be easy to end up saying something you don’t really mean or otherwise getting swept up in the intensity of the full moon drama.

This September Full Moon is bringing us personal freedom. Good luck seems to be migrating around this Full Moon. After so much darkness this past year it’s like a light is coming on and shining down on us in a positive manner. In olden days the farmers would use the full Harvest Moon to bring in their crops, because it stayed light so long on this night, and maybe that is the message that is here for us. The Harvest Moon puts the focus on the harvest in our lives, whether it is the literal harvest with crops from your garden, or the energy around you that you are harvesting, this is a really important time to know where you stand and how you are finishing out your year.

Being as this full Moon is in the sign of Pisces it will bring a calming water affect, which will bring about an attunement for your emotions. So any feelings that come your way doing this time be gentle with yourself and know that you are being reconditioned and recharged by this healing water of Pisces.

If you’ve ever taken an evening car ride or just so happened to catch a glimpse of the starry sky during the early months of fall, you may have noticed the harvest moon. Unlike other full moons, the harvest moon is a little different in both its color and timing, making this moon phase incredibly striking.

Keywords for this Pisces Full Moon are: sensitivity, intuition, music, dreams, escapes, addiction, the ocean, creativity, dance, nature, forgiveness and compassion.

Unlike other Full Moons, this one is specifically related to the Autumn (Northern Hemisphere) or Spring (Southern Hemisphere) Equinoxes on 22 September. It is a time where everything is illuminated in order to gather the harvest. The Full Moon sheds its brilliant light, making everything easy to see and gather.

The veils between the worlds are thinnest around a full moon, so be careful what you invite in. It is best used to purge things out, and banish the negative energies back to the underworld from where they came. Make sure you close the door firmly afterwards! This is a good time for learning and practicing the White Light Protection of God.

Now more than ever we need to keep our spiritual and physical selves protected with the wonderful power of God’s White Light.

Archangel Asariel is busy working with us during the harvest Moon. As this archangel is associated with Pisces he comes in strong to guide us through these difficult waters. Ask and he will help guide your spirit. Asariel watches over your emotions and the ebb and flow of life, encouraging creativity and teaching through dreams and inner wisdom.

It is perfectly fine to have big visions and to strive to live our dreams however, under this energy, we need to bring our focus and attention to how we are actually spending the minutes of our day.

It’s what we do day in and day out that creates our life, so think about your daily routine and how you can tidy things up and schedule more time for the things you really want to do.

This month is also great for getting organized, for clearing out the clutter from your home or your mind, and for making sure your routine leaves time for self- care.

September’s full moon is forming a loose conjunction with dreamy planet Neptune, further connecting you with your fantasies and illuminates our imaginations. Additionally, a sweet sextile aspect to eccentric planet Uranus adds a fun surprise-factor to this late-summer lunation, so look out for sudden changes of heart. You may see some of your summer goals unexpectedly come to fruition or reach an exciting climax, so expect the unexpected. Summer may be coming to a close, but with this full moon’s rose-colored energy, the future still looks sunny.

If you have felt sluggish, unmotivated or if things have been moving too slow for your liking, September may bring the push you have been looking for. If there is something you’ve been meaning to do, or something you wish to cross off your to-do list, take action this full Moon, as you may just find things get done much quicker than expected!

What Is the Spiritual Meaning of the Harvest Moon?

September’s harvest moon will have the signs feeling a little uneasy, but it does offer an opportunity for a fresh start. “This particular moon’s closeness to the autumnal equinox means that it is symbolic of new beginnings and a door to spiritual awareness. On the other hand, with the Piscine energy of this full moon, you may experience a bit of a feeling of insecurity and a feeling like you’re being too perceptive.

In order to prepare yourself for these particular feelings that come from a Pisces sign, it’s best to try to relax. During the harvest moon, it’s best to slow down, wait, and see what happens in your life. Enjoy the beautiful September sunsets; look back at your achievements, and take a deep breath . . . the tricky bit is nearly over!

It is time for us to spiritually shed the dead parts from our souls, just like the trees are letting go of the leaves, and make way for the new growth that is being released at this sacred time. This is your opportunity to advance your soul growth. Do not let this moment pass you by.

This is a wonderful time to do a Full Moon Release Ceremony.

Write down all of the things that you would like to release on a piece of paper.
Go outside and read your releases out loud
Use a barbecue, fireplace, or a pot to burn the paper.
Thank the Moon, God, and all that is Divine and put out the fire.
While September proves to be a generous month, we must be ever conscious of the path ahead, the needs that may arise and that life is always a maze of shifts, twists and turns.

Uncover and understand what came before and what lies ahead in the spiritual harvest of September’s gratitude and grace. All Full Moons offer the opportunity to let go – and here, the door is open.

This is the harvest time, where all the hard work and effort we have put into things in the past, so tirelessly, is about to be rewarded. We will start to reap what we have sewn.

Things have definitely not been easy this year and you may be feeling tired like you have been working so hard for little reward, but do not give up even though you are tired. Do not quit so close to the finish line as you are nearly there and with the energy that is coming through you will be able to reach your goals.

What are you harvesting now? Take advantage of a Full Moon Reading which will give you guidance on your path. This is a special time of year to direct how your year ends. I have designed a reading that will be perfect to harness the energy of what is occurring now in your life!

Full Moon Blessings,
Cherokee Billie

Heartwings Love Notes 1051 Exercising My Will Power

Heartwings says, “Let go of ‘won’t’ and apply ‘will’ power.”

Every January the media overflows with articles on exercise. You can read about it, view it on your computer and hear ads from fitness centers advising you of its virtues. While it is important for all of us to exercise, anyone with Parkinson’s really needs to. It is key to maintaining balance and stability and can actually help improve daily life. Even before my diagnosis I struggled with exercising and have for many years.

When I think back to my twenties, I see myself standing in front of a mirror on a door in my then home in Manchester, doing jumping jacks. They were part of something called ‘the air force exercises,’ and the only part of them I still remember. It was, after all in the late fifties and that makes it almost 70 years ago. I have a pretty good memory, but not that good. I tried to keep them up but soon failed to do so.

At various times I have thought about joining a gym, and yet I haven’t. The mechanical aspects of a fitness center are daunting, and I am not drawn to them. As an adolescent in junior high I had some experience with gymnastics, which seemed fun, however it was brief. I even had an exercise bike in the bedroom of our home in Grafton. Mostly it functioned as somewhere to hang clothes before they made it to the closet.

The other day I decided to purchase a simple peddler. I had had another, fancier one for a while, however it took up too much room and was too heavy to move easily, so I gave it away. The one I just bought is very simple and light. It can even be folded up if necessary. I am determined to strengthen my legs.
I had an excellent physical therapist once who told me, “Your freedom is in your legs.” I have not forgotten this. He initially worked with me when I had my hip operation. Now since I acquired Parkinson’s, that statement is even more important as a motivator. As it is, I often need a wheel chair if I am to go any distance on foot. I don’t want to have that grow even more important.
The other day as I was driving, I had a similar thought. My legs are responsible for my safe driving. I need to keep them strong for that too. My solution is to build exercise into my day. For instance, when I stand at the stove waiting for a pot to boil, I can do leg exercises. When I put away dishes, I can stand onto the balls of my feet and then my heels, to strengthen my calves.

For me, the secret to exercising is in just doing it at odd moments. I build in a sense of motivation by holding the thought of my strength in my legs equaling freedom clearly in my mind. More importantly, the great improvement I am feeling as a result of doing the exercising is an even better motivator.

May you find the strength to do what is helpful and healing.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Life’s Travails

Each time we break through, we reach a new understanding of the strength we store within ourselves.

We have all faced moments in our lives when the pressure mounts beyond what we feel we can handle, and we find ourselves thinking that we do not have the strength to carry on. Sometimes we have just gotten through a major obstacle or illness only to find another one waiting for us the moment we finally catch our breath. Sometimes we endure one loss after another, wondering when we will get a break from life’s travails. It does not seem fair or right that life should demand more of us when we feel we have given all we can, but this is the way life works.

When we look back on our lives, we can see that we have survived many trials and surmounted many obstacles, often to our own amazement. In each of those instances, we had to break through our ideas about how much we could handle and go deeper into our hidden reserves. Think of it like a frozen lake: it appears impenetrable, but when we break through it, we find a deep reservoir. When we break through the thought that we don’t have more to give or to even fall back on, we can find a well of energy and inspiration trapped beneath. Sometimes we break through by cutting a hole in our resistance with our willpower, and sometimes we melt the ice with compassion for our predicament and ourselves. Either way, each time we break through, we reach a new understanding of the strength we store within ourselves.

When we find ourselves up against that barrier of thinking we cannot handle our situation, we may find that the kindest choice is to love ourselves and our resistance too. We can simply accept that we are overwhelmed, exhausted, and stretched and offer ourselves loving kindness and compassion. If we can extend the unconditional warmth of a mother’s love to ourselves, before we know it, the ice will begin to melt.

What Causes Coincidences?

I’m interested in coincidences, especially those related to health, such as feeling a pain and then discovering that at the same time, a close friend was injured in that part of the body. Is there any scientific explanation for why this occurs?

Coincidence is a fascinating topic, and one that has fostered an emerging field of scientific research. Bernard D. Beitman, M.D., is a leader in the field; he has published several academic papers on the topic and is the author of the 2016 book Connecting with Coincidence: The New Science for Using Synchronicity and Serendipity in Your Life. In 2020 Dr. Beitman founded The Coincidence Project, and he currently publishes both a podcast and a Psychology Today blog named Connecting with Coincidence. Dr. Beitman is a visiting professor at the University of Virginia and former chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Beitman is particularly interested in the kind of coincidence you describe – feeling the distress of a loved one at a distance, which he calls “simulpathity.” He has had this experience himself. He describes inexplicably choking at the same time – he learned later – his dying father was choking 2,000 miles away.

He credits events we regard as coincidences as perceptions that emerge from “swirls of information in our minds juxtaposed with swirls of events in our surroundings…The match is often surprising because it seems improbable.” But he proposes that coincidence is more than “the unlikely juxtaposition of similar events.” He contends that “the…events must also be meaningfully connected, and the meaning is personal and intricately linked to the person involved.”

In his book, Dr. Beitman relates story after story of amazing coincidences – the brother who inexplicably drove to the place his sister sat with a gun in her hand about to commit suicide. The brother had no idea why he got into his car; he didn’t know where he was driving, nor why he was going there or what he was supposed to do when he arrived. Simulpathity coupled with an uncanny knowledge of where to go helped to save his sister from taking her own life.

Dr. Beitman acknowledges that the mathematically inclined would say coincidences like this are examples of random chance at work, a view reflecting a fixed belief in the laws of probability. But he maintains that there are too many similar coincidences to chalk up to random chance. “These coincidences suggest we live in a matrix of unbounded links to one another, especially those we love, especially those with whom intense emotion has forged a bond beyond our current understanding,” he writes.

Dr. Beitman’s research has revealed that at least a third of the general population frequently notices weird coincidences. “Twins, family members, friends, therapists and patients are much more connected and entangled with one another than we have previously recognized,” he writes. “Some people will claim that these stories are romantic fabrications driven by a wish for ethereal energies, but the sheer volume of similar, heartfelt, amazing experiences argues otherwise.”

His theory of coincidence focuses on simulpathity and a kind of “human GPS.” “Simulpathity tells us we can connect with the experience of others at a distance without knowing how we do it,” Dr. Beitman writes, while human GPS tells us that “we can find our way to people, things and ideas without knowing how.”

If you’re curious about coincidences you have personally experienced, this book, along with Dr. Beitman’s other writings and podcast episodes can help you better appreciate them and their potential to enrich our lives. There are also many other recent academic articles that examine the concepts of coincidence and causality that you may find interesting.

What to Do When You Have a Ghost

Silhouette at Top of Stairwell
So, you just realized you are sharing space with a ghost; now what? A startling amount of folks will tell you to build an altar and give them offerings, or call a priest and have the home exorcised, but I would not recommend either of these options. I’ve been a paranormal investigator for fifteen years, and a psychic medium for much longer than that. Along the way, I’ve gotten to know quite a few ghosts, and helped many of them find peace by crossing over to the other side or by cohabitating comfortably with their living roommates. If you find yourself sharing space regularly with a ghost, here is my advice for what to do about it.

Understanding Is Key
You can’t really interact with or help a ghost if you don’t know what they are or how they function, so learning about them can be extremely helpful. The first thing to realize is that ghosts are just people without bodies. They don’t become something super scary and different on the other side; they are just like us, and so I always recommend interacting with them the same way you would with people. If you had a houseguest or roommate, you wouldn’t build an altar to them, or buy them a bunch of presents because well… that would be weird. It would also create a power imbalance between the two of you rather quickly. You also wouldn’t ask a priest to chase them out of your home because well… Rude! Ghosts, like any regular embodied person, are not harmed or banished by prayer or holy water. Some will even take great offense to you trying.

The second thing you need to understand is that not all ghosts are happy where they are. Many are lost or confused, and some don’t even know they are dead. This can prevent them from moving on to the next place. I’ve noticed there is a big misunderstanding among many witches I speak to who think that any attempt at investigation is some form of harassment. However, many ghosts have been waiting decades for someone to notice them so they can get help. So, if your ghost is particularly active or seems to be trying to get your attention, it may be asking for assistance.

For further education on life as a ghost, I recommend picking up books like When Ghosts Speak by Mary Ann Winkowski, and my new book, The Witch’s Guide to the Paranormal, for more detailed information.

Set Boundaries
While ghosts have free will just like the living, they respond well to boundaries being set for them. Before you bust out the Ouija board, call the ghostbusters, or hire an occult professional, simply try talking to the ghost. When you feel their presence, simply say hello, introduce yourself, and set any boundaries that will help you feel more comfortable. Some boundaries you may want to enforce include, “Don’t startle or interact with my children, they don’t like it,” or, “If you want my attention, please stir the windchimes, but don’t poke me,” or, “Please stay out of my bedroom.” Normally, they’ll follow the rules you set for them.

Similarly, while you are setting boundaries, I would refrain from giving specific permissions about anything. For instance, I wouldn’t say, “You’re welcome to stay here, just don’t go in my room.” The reasons for this are: First, they’re already staying in the home, so they don’t necessarily need your permission to do so. Second, your perception might be off, and it may be something more sinister than the ghost of a sweet old lady and giving it permission to stay in the home will make getting rid of it that much harder.

But How Do I Know if They Need Something?
Many ghosts are simply living their afterlife peacefully alongside the living. Sometimes, they don’t even pick up on the living people in the home, and may perceive the house as being empty, or they may have a faint sense of the living the same way the living may only occasionally sense a ghostly presence. Others may be able to fully see and hear the living, but still choose to keep to themselves while cohabitating in a space. If this is the case, you may experience very light activity such as a whiff of perfume every now and then, or small infrequent noises. If this is the case, they may need nothing from you.

Other times, however, a ghost may create activity in order to try and get your attention. So, if you are experiencing some ghostly shenanigans such as knocking, objects falling off of shelves, or occasional pokes or prods, it may be an indication that the ghost is attempting to get your attention. If that happens, they may be asking for help, and you may need to reach out to local professionals for assistance. In some cases, you may get them to move on peacefully by placing fresh lilacs around the home and visualizing a beautiful white light opening to take them to the next place. Other times, they may need more complex care before they’re ready to move on.

But What If They Are Aggressive?
If the activity seems to be more than just a cry for attention, or if their behavior suggests they are trying to harm you, it may be for a few reasons. First, they may be trying to claim territory. Many spirits will feel possessive of an area because they either feel like they own it or because it contains a secret they don’t want discovered. These ghosts may or may not know they are dead as well, so please have compassion for them; you’d act aggressively, too, if a new family just moved into your home while you were still living there. Second, they may have objections to who you are as a person. Yup, ghosts are just dead humans, and that means they can be racist, homophobic, against pre-marital sex etc. and may forcefully object to you or your life choices if they don’t approve. Furthermore, they may have trauma; for instance, you may look like the person who murdered them, and therefore they may target you. Third, they may simply be awful people. Murderers, abusers, predators, and the like all have to die at some point, and can continue to be aggressive harmful people in death.

In this situation I would highly recommend calling upon local professionals, and/or getting a copy of my book The Witch’s Guide to the Paranormal, which goes in depth on these issues in a way that can’t be covered in an article like this. You may be able to get them to move on using the technique described above, but if they are unwilling to go, you may have to resort to something a little more drastic. Using things like salt to repel them, as well as expellant smoke from cleansing herbs can help. Neither one of these will automatically boot them out, but prolonged use will make the space uninhabitable and force them to leave. Once you feel they have gone, be sure to put protections in place so they don’t return.

At the end of the day, just remember that ghosts were people, too. Even in death, they have their own hopes, dreams, fears, desires, beliefs, and secrets. So, when it comes to a ghostly roommate or office helper, always remember not to frame them as something unknowable and otherworldly, because after all, the specter stealing the pens from your cubicle is probably not an eldritch creature from the void, but is instead more likely to be Chad, the copy guy who died in a bike accident a year ago. Knowing this, our everyday conflict resolution and communication customs are likely to do the trick.

How Much Time In Nature?
Andrew Weil, M.D.

You raise a question that finally has an answer. As you may know, forest therapy originated in Japan, where researchers have been studying its physiological effects for many years. It appears to have measurable health benefits; for example, it can lower levels of salivary cortisol, the hormone that rises when we’re under stress.

But how much time in nature is needed to get those benefits? A study from the UK published in June 2019 came up with an estimate – 120 minutes (two hours) – per week. The researchers, from the University of Exeter, found that it doesn’t matter if you spend those two hours in nature all at once or incrementally over the course of a week.

The findings come from data on nearly 20,000 people participating from 2014 to 2016 in a British survey called the Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment, the world’s largest study of people’s contact with the natural world.

Participants who spent two hours a week or more outdoors reported being in better health and having a greater sense of well-being than those who didn’t get out at all. No such benefits were seen for people who spent less than two hours a week in natural settings. The findings also showed that spending five or more hours a week in nature offered no additional health advantages. The researchers noted that most of the participants’ nature visits took place within two miles of their homes. Nearly half the people who reported spending little or no time in natural settings said they had low levels of life satisfaction and one in four said they were in poor health.

The investigators suggested that one explanation for the results “might be that time spent in nature is a proxy for physical activity, and it is this which is driving the relationship, not nature contact per se.” However, study leader Mathew P. White, an environmental psychologist, said, “What really amazed us was that this was true for all groups of people. Two hours a week was the threshold for both men and women, older and younger adults, different ethnic groups, people living in richer or poorer areas, and even for those living with long-term illnesses.”

We learned a great deal about the general health benefits of forest therapy from a British analysis of 143 studies published in October 2018. It included data on some 290 million people from 20 countries and concluded that the practice was associated with lower levels of cortisol, lower blood pressure and heart rate. Findings also showed that forest therapy lowered blood cholesterol and reduced rates of diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, asthma and death from heart disease. In addition, it was associated with decreased risk of preterm birth and lower all-cause mortality. Some of the studies analyzed suggested that forest therapy helped people sleep better and improved outcomes in those with cancer and neurological conditions.

Resistance Equals Persistence

The more we can surrender our resistance, the more we free ourselves from what scares us.

We all know the feeling of being haunted by an issue, no matter how we try to ignore it, avoid it, or run away from it. Sometimes it seems that we can get rid of something we don’t want by simply pushing it away. Most of the time, though, the more we pushy, the more we get pushed back. There are laws of physics and metaphysics that explain this phenomenon, which is often summed up in this pithy phrase: that which you resist persists.

Resistance can even strengthen the thoughts and feelings it is attempting to fight by giving them power and energy to work against. Additionally, resistance keeps us from learning more about what we are trying to resist. In order to fully understand something, we must be open to it enough to receive some of its energy; otherwise, we remain ignorant of its lessons. There is a Tibetan story of a monk who retreats to meditate in a cave only to be plagued by demons. He tries everything — chasing, fighting, hiding — to get the demons out of his cave, but the thing that finally works is surrender. He simply lets them have their way and only then do they disappear.

Now, this wisdom must be applied practically. We are not meant to get ourselves physically injured. Instead, this story speaks to our inner demons. What plagues and pursues us in our minds has a way of manifesting itself in our environment, in the form of people, events, and issues that appear to be beyond our control. But all these external expressions are reflections of our insides, and it is inside ourselves that we can safely experiment with surrendering to what we fear and dislike. It may feel scary, and we may find ourselves in the company of a lot of resistance as we begin the process of opening up to what we fear. But the more we learn to surrender, the more the demons that plague us disappear in the process and the more courageous we will become.

Coach Gilberto Chapter 28
by Stephen Halpert

It was late afternoon. Rain and Gilberto said goodbye to a still upset Karen Muskie and got ready to leave for the day. Surprising them, Alvin Scheckle flung open the office door and stormed in. Eyebrows raised, Rain looked at him.
He glared at the headmaster. “You’ve got your nerve!” He shook his fist at Gilberto. “What right do you have to intimidate that poor young woman?”
“Are you referring to Karen Muskie?” Rain asked.
“Y-you know who I’m speaking of,” the head of the history department stammered.
Gilberto leaned back in his chair. “What’s your problem?” he asked calmly. “And what business is it of yours?”
“I’m making it my business.” Scheckle’s face was beet red.”
Rain shook her head. “Be careful; you could have a stroke.”
“Leave her alone,” he reiterated. “You’ve got no right intruding on someone’s personal life that way. How you became headmaster is a joke.”
Gilberto frowned. “Maybe if you started at the beginning? Why are you so concerned anyway?”
“Perhaps he’s the lover she’s protecting,” Rain said softly.
Alvin Scheckle’s hands were shaking. “Mind your own business.”
“Are you referring to Karen Muskie?” Rain repeated. “Does that make her your lover?” She gave him a sly glance. “Are you her alibi for the night of the Flanders murders?”
Gilberto steepled hid hands under his chin. “Is that who you’re talking about?”
Rain continued on. “Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so upset,” she said. “She refused to name you. But now you burst in here blustering like a madman. Why?”
He looked hard at Rain. “You know nothing about our private lives.”
“Possibly true,” Rain’s voice was soft, non-threatening. “But to burst in here with no provocation certainly indicates you have feelings.”
Gilberto got up and got Alvin a glass of water. “Here, calm down. No one’s accusing anyone of anything. We’re simply trying to determine….”
“Worried your wife will discover your indiscretions?” Rain said softly.
Alvin Scheckle swallowed down the cup of water. He set the empty cup aside.
“There no need to fear your wife will learn anything from us,” Rain went on.
He shook his head. “You have no idea.”
“Oh, I’m sure we don’t,” Gilberto said. “Why don’t you tell us?”.
“All was well until that woman, Lara Parker, decided to take over–constantly second-guessing poor Ed Long until he threw in the towel and called it quits.”
“And why was that?” Rain asked.
“The money was disappearing. Houndstooth could barely cover expenses. Ed was doing his best. For the last three years we all had to take cuts in pay. Without Karen I’d have lost my mind. She’s so compassionate and understanding, and yes, we’re in love–real love not some shoddy back-room sort of thing. Yes, we were together that night.” He sighed. “Now leave us alone.” He stood, turned and stalked out of Gilberto’s office.
“What was all that about,” Rain said. “Poor man’s either flipped his lid or is about to.”
Gilberto checked his watch. “It’s definitely time we called it a day.”
“Sounds good to me,” Rain said. ” Let’s let it all percolate and see what tomorrow brings.”
Gilberto nodded. “Something very fishy, it seems,” he said.
They said goodnight and headed for their cars.
Gilberto was relieved to be home. Maria listened intently as he shared his experience interviewing the flirtatious Karen Muskie, and then the sudden emotional outburst of Alvin Scheckle.
“And Karen didn’t seem really interested in the murders. Couldn’t care less,” he concluded.
Maria came over and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Oh, that feels good,” he said.
She moved her hands onto his shoulders. “Two murders,” Maria said. “Looks like someone may be out to decimate the Houndstooth faculty.”
“Let’s hope not.” He squirmed and sighed. “More like the members of the Camp Wigwam Club.”
“The swingers,” Maria grinned. “My guess is jealousy, pure and simple. Figure out who’s been double timed and you’ll find your murderer.”
He tilted his head back and smiled up at her. “You think?”
“Absolutely.” She put her arms around him and kissed him. “But not tonight. This evening we’re taking Joey and Mona out to supper. Time to catch up with our kids.”
He finished his beer, considered taking another but instead got up and rummaged the fridge. He took out some Swiss cheese and two thick slices of imported dark bread. “Any place in particular?”
“Joey and Mona want pizza.”
He smiled. “What else is new? Don’t they always?”
Maria went over to him. “Please put that back. You’re eating too much for someone behind a desk so many hours a day.”
He frowned. “Maria, do I look like I’m gaining weight?”
“Not yet,” she smiled. “But give it a few years and your trim, athletic waist will be gone forever.”
“You say the sweetest things.” He frowned but didn’t put the cheese and bread away immediately. “Besides I wasn’t only behind my desk today. I was also at the morgue with Rain and the Chief of Police looking at two dead bodies.”
“So you said,” she smiled. “I’m not telling you what to do or for that matter what to eat. I love you Gilberto, and I want you to last.”
Reluctantly he opened the fridge and put back the bread and cheese.
Joey and Mona came in followed by Boris, who sniffed the kitchen table, hopeful of unearthing a scrap or two of anything tasty, however infinitesimal.
“Pizza,” Joey asked?
“Yay pizza,” Mona said. She patted Boris, opened the fridge, saw what Gilberto had just put back. “Want a treat?” she said, taking it out and holding it toward the drooling St Bernard.
Maria looked at her sternly. “Don’t you dare,” she said. “You know better. That’s people food, not for dogs.”
Mona frowned. “Why?” she asked.
“Because dog food is especially created for dogs. He doesn’t need snacks. He’s already a little chubby for his health.”
Mona sighed and put it back. “Oh, Boris let’s go back to my room and I’ll put on Animal Planet for you to watch, while us humans go out for Pizza.”

Why Do Cats Knead? Explaining Cat Kneading, a Quirky Cat Behavior
By catedit

Why do cats knead? If you’re stumped by cat kneading, check out this explanation for one of the most baffling feline behaviors — and what to do about it!

Why do cats knead? Cats are interesting creatures, with many traits and behaviors that are easily recognized as being uniquely feline — the way they curl up tightly to take a nap, for example, or their characteristic grooming rituals after enjoying a meal. Cat kneading is another common feline behavior. The kneading is a motion cats make by pushing in and out with their paws, alternating between right and left. Some cats knead with claws completely retracted, while others will extend their claws as they push in and retract as they pull back. So, why do cats knead? Let’s take a look.

Why do cats knead? A gray and white cat, sucking and kneading on a blanket.
Why do cats knead? There are a few different reasons why cats knead. Photography ©Silvia Jansen | Alamy Stock Photo.
First, let’s look at how cats knead
Before we answer “Why do cats knead” let’s look at how they knead. Kneading is sometimes colloquially referred to as “making biscuits,” because the motion resembles a baker kneading dough. Cats almost always knead on a soft, pliable surface like a pillow, a comforter, another cat or kitten, or even your lap. Often cat kneading is accompanied by contented purring, and sometimes even by drooling as the cat relaxes his jaw. It’s not uncommon for a cat to be in an almost trance-like state as he kneads with a steady, rhythmic motion.

So, why do cats knead?
There are a few ways to answer the question, “Why do cats knead?” Explanations for why cats knead vary, but it is without doubt an instinctive trait. Newborn kittens knead their mother’s belly as they snuggle close to nurse, and the motion is thought to stimulate the flow of milk through her nipples. One rather outdated theory proclaims that cats that knead were separated from or weaned from their mother too early, and therefore continue the kittenish behavior into adulthood, yet nearly all adult cats knead, regardless of how or when they weaned. It’s more likely that the answer to “Why do cats knead?” is that it’s simply comforting to cats. (Although some cats do “suckle” the corner of a pillow or blanket while they are kneading.)

Kneading may also go back to the days when wild cats patted down tall grass or shredded leaves to make a soft, fluffy bed for sleeping or giving birth. Through the ages, the behavior continues to a natural part of cat instinct before settling down for a comfortable catnap.

There’s also a more practical aspect to answering the question, “Why do cats knead?” Cats have scent glands in the soft pads on the bottoms of their paws. When they knead, they release some of their unique scent onto the kneaded surface. That scent serves as a kind of territorial marker for any unfamiliar cats that might come along and try to stake a claim. So when your cat is kneading your lap, he’s not only telling you he feels comfortable and secure, but he’s claiming you as his own. (Scratching is also a natural part of cat instinct that results in the cat leaving his own residual scent behind, as well as a visual marker — claw marks — that other cats can recognize.)

What to do about cat kneading
Another question you might have after asking, “Why do cats knead?” is — “What should I do about cat kneading?” If your cat kneads you frequently, it’s a good incentive to keep those cat claws trimmed, in order to avoid being scratched or having your clothing snagged. You could also keep a folded towel next to your favorite chair, and use it to protect your lap as your cat kneads you with his paws.

If the kneading motion is uncomfortable enough to really bother you, you can try gently pulling your cat down into a lying position so he settles down and goes to sleep. Other tricks involve gently holding his front paws together, petting him, or distracting him with a toy or a treat. Pet behavior experts agree that it’s not appropriate to punish a cat for natural and instinctive behaviors like kneading.

Some female cats will knead frequently just before going into heat, as a signal to males of her willingness and ability to mate. As the estrus cycle continues, the cat will make plaintive meows that quickly escalate into loud, persistent yowls that are an effort to get the attention of a male. She may also pace restlessly, mark areas of your house with urine, become extremely affectionate and assume the mating position (head low, with raised hindquarters) when you pet her. It’s impossible to discourage these natural behaviors, and the best way to eliminate the symptoms associated with the female estrus cycle is to have your cat spayed.

All Signs

In the middle of this week, fair Venus will dance with unpredictable Uranus making everyone restless and keen for adventure! Surprise invitations to unusual events might occur. Romance will be scintillating and love at first sight is possible. Something to look forward to! Meanwhile, let’s do a reality check about where we have been and where we are. Astrology gives us a wonderful roadmap to get a clearer picture of your game plan. (Even if you don’t have a game plan, tomorrow will arrive, whether you plan for it or not.) I love the quote by Dwight Eisenhower: “In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.” So true!

Aries (March 21-April 19)
Midweek, you might enjoy romance or a saucy flirtation? You might get a chance to improve the appearance of your work station. Some of you might even get a surprise raise? Or pleasant news about your health? Meanwhile, lucky Jupiter is in your sign, and it will stay there until May of next year. (Yes, it will slip back into Pisces for seven weeks at the end of the year – no biggie.) Jupiter brings you good fortune! Since Jupiter can be in your sign only once every 12 years, make the most of this! Since 2018, you’ve been on a roll. Your challenge now is to figure out how to take time for yourself and yet, satisfy the demands and needs of groups, clubs and friends. There’s only 24 hours in a day. How can you best handle this?

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Surprising social events and entertaining diversions including exciting romance will be a major perk midweek. Yay! Meanwhile, it’s important to know that this is your time of harvest, when your cherished dreams are coming true. Admittedly, you will experience failure because that’s what happens during harvest. You see what works; you see what doesn’t work. Even though you have many responsibilities, this is a productive time for you! That’s why this can be one of the most rewarding times of your life. You will continue to work hard as well as spend money until your birthday next year. (Caution about wasteful spending to gratify your ego.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Forgive me for repeating this: Normally, fiery Mars is in your sign for six weeks once every two years. Right now, it’s in your sign until April 2023! (Seven months!) You’re PowerPoint on steroids! Although you might overwhelm friends and partners with your drive and enthusiasm, you can use this increased physical energy to get a lot done! You will also be more of a fighter for your own rights as well as the rights of others. This is a popular year for you, so get out and schmooze! Continue to get your ducks in a row because next year, you enter your time of harvest, which occurs only once every 30 years. Meanwhile, spontaneous entertaining plus shopping for home will occur midweek. Enjoy!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
This is an amazing year for you because you look so successful to others. Indeed, many of you are blessed with promotions, awards and accolades for your efforts, if not now, then later in the year. Ironically, recently, you have had to get along with less. For some of you, this is because you have finished some intense encounters with partners, which meant you had to divide assets and make changes. Whatever the cause, you are now forced to stand on your own two feet, which you do very well, thank you. Be ready for a fun surprise midweek. Perhaps an entertaining diversion with a friend, sibling, relative or neighbour? If an invitation comes your way – say yes!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Keep your eyes open midweek because a sudden windfall might come your way. You might get an unexpected raise or a gift or even money? Likewise, you might make an impulsive purchase of something beautiful that pleases you. Meanwhile, this year you want to travel and do anything you can to expand your horizons. Many of you are also exploring opportunities in publishing, the media, medicine and the law, and possibly, higher education. Certainly, partnerships and close friendships have been challenging. In fact, some have bit the dust. In part, this is why you are so goal oriented right now, planning for your future. Enjoy physical activity with friends, such as athletics because this will energize you!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Something delightful will surprise you this week. A fun invitation, a spontaneous social situation, or a flirtation? If it requires a response, act quickly because this window of opportunity is brief. Financial delays are par for the course with Mercury retrograde in your Money House. Cheques in the mail will be late. In either case, you are working hard; in fact, you are busting your buns, which is why at times, you feel overwhelmed. Fear not – you can handle this. Your effectiveness as a human being is being tested. Fortunately, gifts, goodies and benefits are coming to you this year, perhaps indirectly through a partner. No matter how they come – it’s good news for you, practically and financially. Ka-ching!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
This is an excellent year for partnerships. In fact, this is the best year in over a decade for Librans to get married. Meanwhile, many of you have had increased responsibilities with children. In turn, this may have impinged upon your social life and made you withdraw from encounters with others. Ironically, part of you wants to travel and explore new horizons. Nevertheless, you can satisfy this urge by learning more through books and film. Be patient this month with Mercury retrograde in your sign. It can help you in times of introspection, as well as dealing with people and issues from your past.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
This year you can either improve your existing job or get a better job! It’s important to know this. (If born late in your sign, this influence continues well into next year.) Meanwhile, since 2012, you have been reinventing yourself. In the last few years, life has been a roller coaster but now, it’s important for you to solidify your home base. This might require home repairs as well as repairing family relationships, including disputes about inheritances or shared property. Expect invitations to surprising events midweek. Grab every chance to socialize with others because your interactions with others will help you discover more about who you are.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You look fabulous to everyone while the Sun is at the top of your chart casting you in a flattering spotlight. Midweek, an unexpected flirtation with a boss or some kind of perk from an authority figure will come your way! Look good because something will happen. This year is a wonderful time for vacations and chances to express your creative talents. Relations with your kids will improve. You might be proud of them. Since 2020, many of you have been in a state of flux with residential moves and job changes. This will stabilize next year. Meanwhile, be patient with partners and close friends while Mars is opposite your sign until May of next year. Patience is the antidote to anger.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Around 2015, you began to downsize your life. By 2018, you set off on a new path; and this year, you have marvellous opportunities to improve where you live. You are also giving serious thought to your values. What is important? You don’t want to be 90 years old, looking in the mirror thinking, “You blew it!” More than any other sign, you like a well-planned ending. Fortunately, you have a lot of energy to work. You’re working hard and also working to improve your health. (This could sound like a contradiction.) Your devotion to accomplishing a lot, as well as improving your health, will continue until next spring. Be ready for unexpected travel opportunities midweek!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
This has been a playful, upbeat year that has been busy! Oh yes, you’ve been hopping! However, you are happy. No need to feel selfish but admit it – in the latter part of this year, and until next spring, you can practically do what you want. You can put your own needs first. You can be playful, independent and claim to the world, “I am!” (Admittedly, conflict with kids might rankle.) Essentially, this is an optimistic time for you, which means enjoy your good fortune! You have been reinventing yourself for the last two years, (a process that is finished in about five years). Expect gifts, goodies and surprises midweek!

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Oh joy! This year, it’s your turn to get richer! You will either earn more money or find a way to save it. The upshot will be that by next year, your assets will have increased – no question. Meanwhile, your home scene has been chaotic and busy due to residential moves, renovations or visiting guests. (Gasp.) You are also in the midst of a time of letting go of people, places and possessions because it’s what you have to do. Do not think of this as a time of loss. Instead, it is a time of lightening up so that you are free to set out on a new path in 2023. A partner or close friend will surprise you this week!

Weekly Horoscopes beginning Sunday, 11 September 2022

If you’re born within a cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you’re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You’re on the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.

Outlines are longer versions; consist of every possible detail of everyday and are based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don’t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.

Personal theme: I am!!
Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19

Your horoscope for this week:

Life’s exciting. Both existing arrangements and future plans are going amazingly well. Yet certain individuals insist you organise arrangements in detail, especially noting finances and who’s responsible for what. Annoying as this distraction seems, deep down you realise it’s wise. The planets agree. The time you invest in tackling these practical matters will pay off, and abundantly, as events unfold, now and in the future.

Even when you’re trying your hardest to be careful, money seems to slip through your fingers. People want donations towards gifts, charity events, and future travel plans and there seems to be precious little to show for your hard-earned income. In addition to this, you are starting to feel irritated by the minor hurdles that keep getting in your way and preventing you from carrying out your own plans. You will find a way to overcome most problems but it will feel like an uphill struggle.

The aftermath of Saturday’s Full Moon and Mercury’s station in your opposite sign will reverberate. Don’t be surprised if you and others have to backtrack. Relationships of all kinds will be under pressure and renegotiation more likely than not. Yet this could yet be a good thing. Venus, and your ruling planet, Mars, come to their First Quarter phase on Friday – a cycle that began at the end of February/ beginning of March. It could be that a parting of the ways is at least considered. A new approach to marketing and distribution will surely be necessary. Once again, adjusting pace is wise. Accepting that until the Solar eclipse at the end of October is in the past, you may need to adjust your career stride, firm up communications and find new ways of working.

Personal theme: I have!!
Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20

Your horoscope for this week:

After a tricky past few weeks, your ruler Venus is in your fellow earth sign of Virgo and is accenting love and life’s joys. While things are improving, they won’t always go as expected. Still, instead of battling changes, explore where they’d take you. The more you learn, the better informed you’ll be when it comes time to turn the ideas being discussed into lasting plans.

A religious or cultural issue is causing contention in a close friendship. You and someone close hold widely different beliefs. You resent their attempts to persuade you to see their point of view when they show no interest whatsoever in what you have to say. The best thing you both can do is agree to differ. Weekend activities offer you the chance to mix business with pleasure when you might be entertaining colleagues or a business event you are invited to will turn out to be lively and entertaining.

The aftermath of Saturday’s Full Moon and Mercury’s retrograde station will surely be felt for some weeks. Recall that Mars is moving through one of the finance zones of your solar chart and that you will no doubt need to juggle. Don’t underestimate your ability. True, you could feel a sense of loss mid-week. It may be that you have insufficient capital or resources to move forward. Yet think back to the plans you made at the end of February/beginning of March. This is a natural turning point for these. It is time to firm up partnerships which might mean putting these on fresh footing. Adjustment should be seen as a positive experience. You could feel empowered by next Friday. Yes, you might need to accept greater responsibility but this may be no bad thing. Careerwise, this is time for rethink and adjustment.

Personal theme: I think!!
Air sign: May 21 — June 20

Your horoscope for this week:

True, the current planetary setup is unsettled. However, often, those sudden developments will lead to breakthroughs as unexpected as they are thrilling. The secret? Observe each day’s events with childlike enthusiasm; and those who’re too practical to be as spontaneous? Diplomatically ignore them, at least for now. By next week they’ll be impressed how cleverly you dealt with this week’s ongoing twists and turns.

You’re looking at different opportunities and options and a part of you wants to try something completely new. Even so, anything that remotely hints of risk should be avoided. Credit arrangements, borrowing and lending cash will all require some serious consideration. Weigh up all pros and cons before deciding on what to do next. Later on, your spirits will start to rise and your optimistic outlook will rub off on all who are around you.

You surely won’t be alone if you reel from the after-shocks of Saturday’s Full Moon and Mercury’s retrograde station. In fact, you may be one of the signs most affected. Fact is that an alteration in your working patterns is more likely than not. Recall that Mars has an extended stay in your sign. Fighting for what you feel is right would be an understandably dominant theme for the next few weeks at least. Note too, that on Friday, Venus and Mars come to their right-angle aspect. Working partners and how best to finance projects will surely be a source of tension. With others determining that your approach is not viable, many relationships could break down. You will need to question whether you’re being contrary for the sake of being contrary, or if your questions really are in the best spirit of finding ways to develop a working partnership. The written word has special importance with contractual matters requiring particular diligence and perhaps even support from a (legal?) expert.

Personal theme: I feel!!
Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Between the pivotal Full Moon, on Saturday 10 September, and the coming week’s dynamic planetary activity, often events won’t make sense. It may even seem ongoing arrangements are falling apart. Actually, this is about rethinking things, from elements of the past to future plans. While, as a Cancerian, you’d prefer reassuring facts, be aware that what’s most unsettling is leading to the most exciting breakthroughs.

You are reaching the end of a cycle that has seemed repetitive and at times, never ending. It has been hard and yet you never doubted that you would eventually see the finish line. It will be a huge relief to realise you are finally there. Before deciding on what might be next, take some time to relax and recharge your energy. When you’re having fun, you might not stop to count the cost but the pleasure you get out of a social event will make it worth every penny.

It would be understandable if you were discombobulated as the working week begins. Not only are you dealing with the aftermath of Saturday’s Full Moon in another of the Water signs, but Mercury is now retrograde at the base of your solar chart. A review of assets is probable. You may also find that working patterns simply have to be changed when it becomes clear that resources are no longer be available. On Friday, Venus and Mars arrive at their right-angle phase: part of a cycle that began at the end of February/ beginning of March. You may find that alliances are now so very different and that new networks need to be formed. Your gift is in reaching out to those whom you know are protecting their interests but possibly damaging unions in doing so. True you might also experience difficulties with educational establishments and rule changes. Don’t underestimate your ability to ride the storm. In fact, you could join forces with a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius to your advantage.

Personal theme: I will!!
Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Nobody would blame you for battling yet more changes in what was supposed to be a simple matter. However, between frequent and often surprising revelations and your own questions, you’re recognising even far-reaching changes as the timely breakthroughs that they are. The trick? Live one day at a time. That way, you’ll welcome, if not actually enjoy, even the most unexpected of twists and turns.

You’re more at ease thanks to someone helping to solve a family or financial predicament. You’ll be glad of the advice of a practical friend. In return, you might offer to do something for them even though you know they would have helped you out anyway. You aren’t sure how a professional arrangement is likely to go. Once all is in place, just sit back and allow events to work themselves out in their own way. You should be happy with the progress made.

The combination of Saturday’s Full Moon that coincided with Mercury’s retrograde station was obviously be felt by all signs. It’s probable that there’s been financial global financial drama that has the potential to escalate even further in the weeks ahead. It will be necessary for all signs to be nimble and flexible – a challenge for Leos! There is potential for you to feel ‘lost at sea’ and arguably important that you have a good team of colleagues and friends around you who encourage you to think differently and explore options. By Friday, Venus and Mars will have reached the First Quarter phase of a cycle that began at the end of February/early March. It’s arguably worthwhile looking back to the contacts made since then and assessing if any of these partnerships could be put on better footing. In short, this week careerwise seems all about team building and finding support.

Personal theme: I analyse!!
Earth sign: August 23 — September 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Your ruling planet Mercury is retrograde, or moving backwards in the heavens from Saturday 10 September until 2 October. While some are anxious about this, you’ll be discovering the joy of the unexpected. True, as a Virgo, you prefer to plan ahead. Still, now and over the coming weeks, aim to embrace the unexpected with enthusiasm. What’s most surprising could be most rewarding in the long run.

Keep your chin up even if you feel one thing after another seems to be going wrong. Push your way through the problems and all of a sudden everything will start coming together nicely. You will be able to look back on this week knowing the value of perseverance. If you haven’t been feeling very sociable of late, a partner or good friend will be encouraging you to be more outgoing. In return, you can help them get in touch with their inner selves. You cannot deny the attraction of opposites.

Saturday’s Full Moon was in your opposite sign and coincided with your ruling planet, Mercury, reaching its retrograde station in one of the financial zones of your solar chart. You might worry that you’ve invested too much energy in one direction at the expense – most likely of marketing, networking and advertising. These are issues to address this week. It would surely be beneficial to polish your CV and show precisely what you’ve achieved since late February early March: the last occasions when Venus and Mars formed a conjunction. On Friday they reach their First Quarter phase: a time for reassessment. Building bridges, finding new ways of working with others and generally ensuring that others understand your mission statement should be on your agenda.

Personal theme: I balance!!
Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22

Your horoscope for this week:

You’ve a lengthy list of things you’ve intended to deal with or discuss; but something’s always interfered. What’s more, you’ve dreaded facing these. However, with the Sun and your ruler Venus both accenting these tricky matters, not only has the time come to tackle them, you’ll be amazed how easy the process is. So easy, in fact, you’ll begin seeking others to tackle as well.

The days have a lot to offer if you are keen to talk someone around to your way of thinking. A business or legal matter will benefit from a no-nonsense and straightforward approach. Are you single and hoping to get someone a little better? Just speak your mind without worrying about using fancy words and phrases. Above all: be yourself. A senior colleague will refuse to take full responsibility for a recent issue which could have turned out very differently had they taken a better decision.

The whole world should feel after-shocks from Saturday’s Full Moon which coincided with Mercury turning retrograde in your sign. It would be understandable if Libras experienced a change of heart. At the very least, you’re likely to be discombobulated – a feeling that exaggerates on Friday when your ruling planet, Venus, comes to its first right angle phase with Mars. This cycle began at the end of February/ early March. This really is a turning point. Obviously, all signs are affected. You may need to trim your sails. Remember, yours is one of the Air signs and ideas come to you thick and fast. Grounding these isn’t always easy. With Venus moving through one of the Earth signs however, you could partner with someone who’s good on detail and administration. Perhaps all that is really needed is a solid schedule and acceptance that this is a trial period. Consolidating the way forward should be much easier after Mercury turns direct teething issues shown the way to productive ways of working.

Scorpio & Ophiuchus
Personal theme: I desire!!
Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21

Your horoscope for this week:

Few things are more frustrating than facing situations where decisions are urgent, yet being short of facts. The irony is that, as a clear-thinking Scorpio, you’ve a remarkable talent for both defining the issue clearly and deciding how best to proceed. The challenge? Convincing others. Intriguingly, what you learn in the process of figuring out what to say could be more important than anything else.

You haven’t been neglecting someone close, as such, but they are feeling out of sorts and would appreciate your attempts to cheer them up. Even if it’s an hour or so every evening, it will take very little effort to bring sunshine into other people’s lives. It won’t be difficult to get on with the routine tasks expected of you. If you have time left to spare you might turn to a hobby you always find relaxing.

On Friday, Venus arrives at its First Quarter phase with your ruling planet, Mars. This, coming so soon after a Full Moon that coincided with Mercury’s retrograde station, suggests a week to remember. Many partnerships will be under strain. This isn’t just in the romantic sense. You may find that the people you are attempting to work with seem – at least initially – to pull against you. It would be understandable if you felt lost – particularly mid-week. Yet it is then that you could come up with a superbly creative idea. Your artistic senses will surely be to the fore. You could also come up with a slogan or caption that would enable an idea or product to be sold more efficiently; and that’s the other key word for this week: ‘efficiency’. By Friday you could show others not only how to cope with crisis, but how to manage it constructively.

Personal theme: I see!!
Fire sign: November 22 — December 21

Your horoscope for this week:

Ordinarily, you’re easy-going about changes. However, now somebody’s taken over decision-making. Obviously, you’re furious, and quite rightly. Still, reflect on this. The individual in question has freed you to focus on other, far more exciting, matters; and, better yet, it’s without having to juggle various plans and increasingly complex obligations. For now, back off. You may soon realise you owe them a ‘thank you’.

Your thoughts are miles away and if you aren’t able to travel or enjoy a change of scenery you could appear to others to be wandering around in a mental fog. You’re dreaming of what you could do in the future to make your life more enjoyable and thinking about what plans to get started on soon. As much as you aren’t in the mood to get on with your usual commitments, someone is relying on you to fulfil obligations.

The aftermath of the cosmic vibration created by the combination of Saturday’s Full Moon and Mercury’s retrograde station will be felt for some time. Added to that, on Friday, Venus and Mars arrive at their First Quarter phase. This working week should prove ultra-challenging. It might help to think back to late February/early March and partnerships that have begun since then. At many levels this is proving to be a turbulent year. Yours is a sign with a strong sense of right and wrong and you may not be happy with some decisions. Though you might not ‘change sides’, you might alter your view: a potentially uncomfortable process. It may be that unless you do, a partnership simply cannot move forward. What seems highly likely is that you will need to at least consider a different mode of thinking, perspective or transport.

Personal theme: I use!!
Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19

Your horoscope for this week:

Watching arrangements or future plans you’ve worked hard to organise come undone is disappointing, if not upsetting. However, these were a rehearsal for the even more exciting developments that will begin coming your way within weeks; and until then? Declutter your life. For ages you’ve been ignoring certain demanding but unrewarding arrangements and complex commitments. They can, and should go; and the sooner, the better.

A harmonious atmosphere now exists where there has been bitterness and contention. It will come as some relief that a friend or workmate who has not been friendly of late, now seems anxious to please you. You will be equally as keen to help them and this will build a warm and cooperative spirit that extends into your personal life too. A job that requires imagination and creativity will keep you happily occupied later.

On Saturday (10th), not only was there a Full Moon, but Mercury turned retrograde in the career zone of your solar chart. A hiatus at work could follow. Note too, that on Friday, Venus and Mars come to their First Quarter phase: the next stage of a cycle that began late February/early March. Think back to those who have joined your working scene since then. It may be that a review of that working partnership is necessary. A further possibility is that a decision taken in the last fortnight will require review. This is perhaps not so much backtracking, but a review of the costs and energy involved. Yet another possibility is that marketing, advertising and distribution will require extra care. All of this could leave your head spinning and yes, considerably more work headed toward your desk. This is perhaps not the week to begin delegating but to assess talents so that after the next New Moon, (September 23), a team starts work.

Personal theme: I know!!
Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18

Your horoscope for this week:

Everybody has a vision, from hopes for improving on existing arrangements to future plans; but, lately, these have remained exactly that, dreams. Now, however, suddenly several of those seemingly impossible dreams are coming true. The problem? These aren’t in the form or at the time you’ve had in mind. Despite that, go with the flow. Once you’ve learnt more, you’ll be glad you did.

Extremely high costs to keep a service open and available come under discussion. This could mean putting up prices again or closing this service down altogether. Contracts that once went to local suppliers are being ended. This will cause disappointment within your community. If work relationships aren’t what you would like them to be, happier home life will compensate. A favourite relative has something special to give you. Such a generous offer will be much appreciated.

Team management is a major theme. Following on from Saturday’s Full Moon and Mercury’s retrograde station in another of the Air signs, a review of tactics, resources and general management will be required. As importantly, on Friday, Venus and Mars come to First Quarter phase following a cycle that began at the end of February/ beginning of March. Reviewing the last 7-8 months of working practices would be wise. In particular, working relationships with those who work at some distance need to be rethought. It may be that work has not been distributed evenly. You might also be aware of a substantial financial loss or threatened one. Those with proven expertise of team-work will be particularly appreciated. It may be that Aquarian energy is at a premium and that by Friday you’re spoilt for choice as to which team you should join.

Personal theme: I believe!!
Water sign: February 19 — March 20

Your horoscope for this week:

At the moment, your life’s like a jigsaw puzzle. Once that’s clear, when plans don’t fit together the way you hoped, you’ll stop worrying and take each day, and event, one at a time. Frustrating as this slow pace is, it’s about allowing the actual circumstances around you to merge, often in ways as amazing as they are unexpected. Your biggest challenge? Deflecting others’ well-meaning but pointless questions.

The interference of a workmate or someone you study with is slowing down your own progress. Their unwanted criticisms are making you question your skills and decisions. You need to distance yourself more and remind yourself of your past achievements. Casting your eye ahead and there are some great options for the future that will enable you to escape a difficult situation. You are ready to make these changes and take charge of your life.

Saturday’s (10th) Full Moon was in your sign and coincided with Mercury’s retrograde station. There is high probability that you will experience a change of heart or want to make major alteration. Take your time. On Friday, Venus and Mars arrive at their first quarter phase of a cycle that began at the end of February/beginning of March. It might be helpful to think back to that earlier time and the crises you dealt with then. Further adjustment is likely necessary. Recall that both Venus and Mars are travelling through Mutable signs like your own. It’s probable that you will be in the eye of the storm. The present may be all about space clearing and detoxifying. To that end, although you might not enjoy what you discover mid-week, it could be that a crisis proves therapeutic. Don’t be surprised if you attract Leo an Aquarius friends and colleagues who marvel at your ability to ride this storm and in fact, ask you for assistance with their lifeboat.
