Summer Solstice & Cancer (Zodiac) Season

For All Zodiac Signs

The Sun shifts into the sign of Cancer, aka Cancer Season, and the Summer Solstice occurs in the North on June 20, 2021, when the days and nights are equal in length in light and dark.

When the Summer Solstice arrives, the Sun is in the protective and sensitive sign of Cancer; the energies tend to slow down a bit. Nevertheless, the Solstices are important because they open energetic doorways and usher in the magic of the Summer Season. These special days allow us to manifest what we want in our lives. The Sun will remain in Cancer until July 22, 2021.

While the Sun’s in Cancer over the next month, we are more focused on our family and home life. The day’s light begins to grow longer, which helps us make memories, which is right Cancers alley. This influence keeps us close to home as we have a stronger need for security with anything related to home or family.

Since we are technically still in Eclipse Season through the end of June, this Full Moon will land under its influence. Eclipses tend to bring out the truth and so do Full Moon’s, so what’s been hidden, repressed, kept secret, or unknown can be revealed. So if you have any skeletons in your closet, you may want to get things out in the open and deal with whatever reactions are coming your way.

It’s also a good time for teamwork, even with the Sun in more private Cancer. If our expectations are unreliable or unrealistic, then we probably will be let down. Try to work at keeping yourself grounded and your thoughts rooted strongly in reality. It’s for the best during this time, especially since we’re under the after shadow period of Mercury in Retrograde, as we wait for Mercury to get back up to its normal pace as it heads in the right direction again. But this alone causes confusion and can make things that much more challenging to navigate through.

The Cancer energies can make us feel sensitive and emotional. Cancer energy also teaches us to be more ambitious like the other Cardinal signs in the Zodiac (Aries, Capricorn, & Libra). Therefore, we’re usually more tenacious about reaching our business and professional goals. It’s important to take care of our social obligations, as activities outside our home will be more successful when we learn how to create a solid family and home base to fall back on. This influence helps us keep our schedules and routines, our home life in perspective.

With the Sun in Cancer, our thoughts naturally turn inward. It’s a great time to reach out to loved ones that feel safe and perhaps plan a very low-key get-together, or maybe finish up any home projects you’ve needed to get done. We are looking for safety and protection, so we want to surround ourselves with what’s secure and familiar. It’s a great time to celebrate the gift of seeing each other again face to face, now that Covid is down in the US. But still, remain safe and cautious.

The shadow side of the Sun in Cancer Season is that the Moon actually rules the sign of Cancer. So we can become a bit lunatic-like under its influence, especially if we’re worn down, emotionally hurt, lonely, or overwhelmed. Our moods can go up and down rather quickly, and we can become moodier with the waxing and waning of the Moon and all her phases for the next month. Monitor the Moon Phases and how they affect you by following my blogs on social media.

Our everyday lives are experienced on a much deeper emotional level with the Sun in Cancer (no matter your Sun sign). We tend to worry about our emotional security and are naturally more concerned with our personal lives. Even if we are interested in what’s happening globally, we want to protect and nurture those close to home more so than usual. So nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects becomes more important.

Cancer is the Mother of the Zodiac and a water sign, so this energy affects us emotionally. Things like coziness, closeness, emotional bonding, and sexuality are experienced with more depth at this time. This energy can be quite evident in our everyday lives! We can be more kind, compassionate, caring, and empathic to others needs.

But the dark side of this Cancer energy means we can also be more reactive and impulsive when it comes to our emotional connections with people and situations.

Also, with the Sun in Cancer, the general atmosphere is more emotional, so any other Cosmic connections between the Sun and Moon can be extremely intense. But our initial reaction is to take the road less traveled. We will do whatever it takes not to be exposed because we tend to feel more vulnerable, including sidestepping direct confrontation, unless, of course, we are doing the confronting.

If we lose control, we can get a little crazy. Cancer energy, when angered, can be quite over the top and scary because it’s pure raw emotion. This charged-up emotional energy tends to trigger some of our most tender spots, so we can become illogical if we get frustrated or feel picked on. It’s just best not to let ourselves go there, and our emotions take the wheel for the next month. It can prove difficult to be objective or open-minded during this time, as we can be a bit pessimistic in our thinking, especially with Mercury in Retrograde. It’s helpful to keep your thoughts more positive, but you may have to work at it a little more than usual.

We are tapped into the realm of Cancer for the next month. We often feel more powerful when using our emotions with people or experiences, which gives these connections more depth and meaning. Usually, what we do during this time comes from the heart. It’s good practice for us to learn from anyway. Work on being more kind and compassionate while the Sun is in Cancer.

Cook some soul food and find something sweet to eat. Cuddle up with someone you care for, enjoy your Summer, and Happy Birthday, all my beautiful Crabs, Cancers!

And happy Summer Solstice!

Llewellyn’s Spell A Day

A Summer Solstice Solar Blessing

This ritual celebrates the sun god and the summer solstice. It should be performed at noon, the solar hour. If possible, perform this ritual outside.

You’ll need one orange pillar candle and a bowl of water containing a few drops of orange extract. Place the candle on a sturdy surface outside, such as a table or a flat rock. If inside, use an altar or a table. In front of the candle, place the bowl with the water/ extract. Safely light the candle and raise it skyward. Then set it down and say:

We have called you Helios, Ra,

and many other names.

You are the King of Light

and the eternal flame.

Bless me with the bounty

of your kingdom.

Bless me with your power

and your wisdom.

Now sprinkle the water/extract mixture about as an offering. Let the candle burn a few minutes, then extinguish it. This ends the spell. You may use the candle again for prosperity magic.

Coin Spell

Everyone could use a little prosperity. In the past, people often wore coins as jewelry to attract wealth. This spell draws on that history.

To cast this spell, you will need some wearable coinage, a paper and pen, and a sprig of fresh basil. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and bellydance scarves often have coinlike dangles. Some belt buckles have pennies or other coins welded onto a background. You can also find actual sunken treasure or other historic coins made up into jewelry, usually pendants or earrings. Rings and tie tacks are less common but occasionally feature coins.

First, count how many coins you have on your jewelry. For each coin, write down an aspect of prosperity, such as attracting wealth or saving money. Now rub the basil over the first coin while chanting its aspect of prosperity. Imagine that aspect manifesting and what improvements it would make for you. Do the same with the remaining coins. Finally, bury the basil in your yard. Wear the jewelry when you need prosperity. You can keep the paper on your altar.

Strengthen Bonds

To reinforce the bonds in a relationship of any kind, begin by writing your name and the other person’s name on the same sheet of paper. This works best if both people participate, each writing their own name. Fold the paper as many times as you can and place it in a heatproof dish. Set a pink or white candle on top of the paper. As you light the candle, visualize the relationship between you growing stronger. After the candle has burned out safely, take what’s left of it, and the paper, and bury them someplace safe. As you bury these items, hold hands and say these words together:

Let our relationship stay

healthy and strong.

Keep trust between us, and if

something goes wrong,

Let us resolve it as soon as we can.

Let this be true if we both understand.

Safe Travel Spell for Yourself or Loved Ones

Whether you find traveling to be a joy or a chore, we all have to do it from time to time. For those occasions when there may be safety concerns, a bit of magical defense is handy to use.

Envision the person (or people) to be protected surrounded by a silvery bubble of protection. Make this mental image as strong as possible, and infuse into it all the love and concern you have for the person. When you feel that the power is at its peak, say:

By hoof, by wheel, by boat or plane,

Be safe in all travel and return again;

Healthy and whole, protected yet free,

As I do will, so shall it be.

This spell can be repeated as often as desired.

Spell for a New Houseplant

Even if you’re not much of a gardener, summer is a great time to bring plants into your life to add both beauty and magic. Consider adding a houseplant or two to brighten your home. Choose cacti for protection, African violet for love and working with fairies, aloe for health and healing, or pothos for longevity and success. Speak to your plants and consciously charge them with a task in the household. When you bring a new plant home, concentrate on its purpose and say:

Welcome home, friend. I ask that

you bring your own magic to this

home. I will care for you, and

together let us be partners.

Write your specific instructions for your new plant on a slip of rice paper and bury it in the soil to decompose. As the plant grows and flourishes, its magic will come to fruition. Be sure to research and provide any special care your plant may require so you can return the favor!

Smooth Travels

As the school year comes to a close and summer is upon us, many people embark on vacations. Traveling can be a wonderful experience, whether you go by yourself or with others, looking for adventure or for relaxation. Here’s a simple spell to help things go smoothly, no matter what kind of trips you take.

Place a symbol of your journey (this can be anything from a picture of where you’re going to a toy car or plane) in front of a white candle in a fire-safe candleholder or dish. Put a large square of aluminum foil under the candleholder, making sure the piece is large enough to put at least partially around your symbol. Then say the following while gently pulling up the foil so it surrounds the candle and your symbol like a low wall. (Snuff out the candle when done.)

Protection like a bubble,

To keep the journey smooth.

Safe travels without trouble,

All obstacles remove.

Magic Circles Day

June 14 is Magic Circles Day. A circle is used in ritual ceremonies to focus and raise the energy inside the perimeter. Creating the circle, or magical barrier can be done in a number of ways. You can use an athame, also known as a ritual knife, to draw the circle energetically. If you don’t have ritual tools, you can simply use your pointer finger and envision the circle as a color of light. Your body and mind are the only things you really need to create powerful magick. You can use salt to create a physical barrier for protection while in the circle. Stones and crystals or candles can be used, with fire safety in mind. When the circle is cast, say:

Let nothing but love enter and

let nothing but love leave.

Perform the spell of your choice. Then take down the circle, visualizing it dissolving in the opposite direction of how it was created.

Candle Tips

Before lighting a new candle for a spell, check to make sure that you have peeled off all the wrappers and labels. Some candles have a layer of clear plastic shrink-wrapped around them that is hard to see and will smoke if the candle is lit.

You can dedicate any candle for a certain spell or ritual by using a pin to carve a name, runes, or other magical symbols down the side. If you don’t like handling sharp things, a dried-out ballpoint pen also works well.

If a candle builds up a pool of melted wax that threatens to drown the flame, you can tilt the candle or press a metal tool against the rim of wax to make a channel so that some of the wax can run out.

When a candle wick burns down too low to light but there is still plenty of wax in the rest of the candle, carve a well around the wick in order to make it long enough to burn.

Midsummer’s Eve – June 20

Midsummer Day, Litha, Gwyl Canol Haf

Magic magnified. All that is mystical has particular potency during these hours, as for the other two “spirit nights” — May Eve and Samhain. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare evokes familiar Pagan enchantments — a plant arousing love, fairies, transformations, magical flight. Puck can “put a girdle round the world in forty minutes.” Above all, impish spirits cause disorder, for “bright dreams come to confusion.”

Throughout Europe, Britain and especially Scandinavia, drunkenness was not discouraged nor was lovemaking, June bringing little farm work and a good time for birthing babies. Bonfires flickered on hills — neglect to light one at your peril, for your house might be set afire by mischievous spirits. Herbs gathered during this time are especially effective for medicinal purposes. Other plants are treasured for their use in charms and divination, including elderberries, yarrow and vervain. St. John’s wort hangs above doors to avert entrance of evil.

During the night hazel branches, cut between midnight and one o’clock, were used to find water, gold or gems. Fern seeds were also considered invaluable on Midsummer Eve for help in eluding fairies “ill met by Moonlight.” And then “Night’s swift dragons cut the night full fast/ And yonder shines Aurora’s harbinger/ At whose approach ghosts, wandering here and there/ Troop home to churchyards.”

~The Witches’ Almanac

In a time when mothers and female energy are being honored, it is important not to forget the importance of fathers.

The idea of fatherhood is both personal and universal. We all have ideal concepts surrounding fatherhood, and we also have our real fathers — fathers who were there or not there for us, fathers who provided financial support for our families or failed to do so, fathers who loved or neglected us, fathers who were our role models or gave us someone to rebel against. Our father may have been there for us sometimes and not there for us at other times. The process of reconciling the ideal father that resides in our minds with the father that we actually have is a fertile one that can teach us a great deal about ourselves.

Our relationship with our father will often affect our relationships with the other men who will come into our lives. You may have learned to behave and think in certain ways because those were the ways that your father acted and thought. Certain talents that you possess may have been passed down to you by your father. There also may be personal issues that you inherited by virtue of who your father is. Understanding how your relationship with your father has influenced you can help you better understand yourself and the life that you have created.

In a time when mothers, the sacred feminine, and female energy are being honored, it is important not to forget the importance of fathers. Father energy and mother energy are the two complementary energies necessary to bring a healthy human being to fruition in the world. Many of the ideas surrounding fathers are changing in the wake of more modern parenting styles and the more egalitarian roles that are evolving between the sexes. More men are embodying the mother energy these days, and a woman can provide father energy for her children. Either way, we can all benefit from thinking about our fathers and how they have influenced who we’ve become and the ways that we walk through this world. Let us remember to honor our fathers.

5 Ways to Celebrate the Summer Solstice

~Traditional Medicinals

As we welcome the Summer Solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year, we encourage you to let the ethereal warmth of these summer days fill your heart.

In many cultures, this day represents a time of celebration — to embrace the heat of the sun, the warm nights, the fragrance in the air, fresh, vibrant food, and our connection to nature. Plants have often played a role in honoring the change of seasons, but herbs have traditionally been prevalent in solstice events as many of our favorite herbs are at the peak of their growing season.

However you choose to honor it, it’s a special moment in time, and the perfect opportunity to surround yourself with the power, playfulness, and abundance of this season.

Host a solstice picnic

Invite friends to a beautiful sunny outdoor spot, and ask them to bring a dish that embodies summer. We like harvesting edible summer flowers to add to a fresh salad topped with our Spring Green Goddess Dressing. For a hot day, Ginger + Hibiscus Watermelon Pops or Cup of Sunshine Raspberry Sorbet are favorites for this time of year. Sip on herbal iced tea or chilled wine in the sunshine, and savor the heat of this joyous time of year.

Make plant mandalas

The word mandala means “circle.” A mandala represents wholeness, a diagram that reminds us of our relationship to something greater, extending beyond our bodies and minds. As plant lovers, we can’t think of a better way to appreciate and experience the beauty of nature than with a creative project made from the plants we love.

Collect herbs, branches, twigs, blossoms, grass, blooming flowers, crystals, and stones. Use what you can find around you, or take a trip to a local flower shop. Set them into a layout and pattern that makes sense to you. Sit in silence as you do this, and take the time to think about your intentions on these bright days, and which aspects you want to take with you into the coming year.

Spend time in nature with a meditation

Find a quiet spot, somewhere in nature; under a tree in a park, in your backyard, or near a running creek. Stretch out and salute the sun, then settle into quiet stillness to give thanks and gratitude. Slow down for 10-20 minutes and notice the sounds, scents, and views around you. Savor this particular moment in time as you breathe deeply and soak up this summer day.

Take a cold plunge or a cool bath

If you are new to the idea of hydrotherapy, a warm summer day is an ideal time to start this practice. Cold therapy is thought to encourage systemic rejuvenation and renewal and is a lovely tradition to invite into your wellness routine.

If you don’t have access to a cold creek, use your shower or tub at home, or introduce this practice following a daily shower. Allow yourself to experience a burst of cold water, standing in it for as long as you can, breathing deeply, allowing yourself to experience the sensations that arise. Once finished, give yourself a little time to rest, either by laying down for 5 minutes, or starting your day a little slower than usual.

Make Summer Solstice Cordials

Preserve the sweetness of peak summer with your favorite fruit and herbs. Perfect for special occasions or as a delicious dessert!

The simple version of a cordial recipe is equal parts simple syrup, fruit and herbs, and a solvent, like brandy or vodka.

A favorite this time of year is Strawberry Lemon Balm Cordial:

Strawberry Lemon Balm Cordial

Preserve the sweetness of peak summer with your favorite fruit and herbs. Perfect for special occasions or as a delicious dessert!

Servings: Makes 1 quart. The serving size is 1 oz.

About 1 quart of fresh strawberries

10 Traditional Medicinals Lemon Balm tea bags

1-2 cups simple syrup (a 2:1 ratio of honey & water)

1-2 cups alcohol preference; brandy or vodka is most popular.

Make a simple syrup by simmering on the stovetop 2 cups of honey with 1 cup water.

Cut and chop the fruit, filling a mason jar ¾ of the way.

Cut open the tea bags and empty the dried tea into the jar.

Fill halfway with simple syrup, and then fill the rest of the jar with alcohol.

Let the cordial sit on your counter, occasionally shaking for about 4 weeks.

Once done, strain and preserve the liquid in an airtight bottle.

This will keep for a year in the refrigerator. Enjoy as is, over ice, or save for the dark days of winter when you need to bring out a little summertime energy.

Heartwings Love Notes 987: Learning to Cope can be Tricky

Heartwings says, “What once you did without thinking can become tricky with change.”

I used to put on my shoes and socks without thinking much about it. It took me little time and effort and was easily accomplished. Then I had a hip operation. I no longer can reach down on both sides of my left leg because I can’t bend enough that way without putting too much pressure on my hip replacement. In addition, I have lost some of my flexibility. Some of that is due to age, some to not doing enough stretching. It slows me down not to be able to reach easily to my feet or to lift them in the air from a sitting position. Please hear me, I am not complaining, only stating facts.

As I grow on in years, more and more mindfulness is required for everyday tasks. By mindfulness I mean focus and concentration. Going down stairs is another act that requires care as well as caution. Holding onto the banister is essential. I learned this once the hard way when I stumbled and sprained my ankle. It took me nine months before I could walk without pain and even now years later my ankle bothers me when the weather is damp and/or rainy. Needless to say, I now always hold firmly onto any available railing when navigating stairs.

I sound like I’m part of a quote from a verse in the folksong I used to sing called What are Folk Made Of: “What are old women made of, made of, what are old women made of? Aches and groans in all of their bones…” however, that is not my intention. I know well that things could always be worse. Just the other day I was in the parking lot of a clinic, getting out of my car for a doctor’s appointment. I spotted several vans with occupants in wheelchairs. Immediately I felt ashamed to feel uncomfortable about my own small by comparison, physical issues.

There is a saying to this effect, “After I saw a man with no feet, I no longer complained because I had no shoes.” Things could nearly always be better, and as well, they could nearly always be worse. It seems to me better to make the best what is and perhaps even learn from it than to complain. Life can offer us much when we look with acceptance at what is given. A wise woman once quoted me this Hebrew saying: “The Lord God, blessed be He, has given mankind many good gifts in his cradles, but some of them come in rough wrappings.” The gift may be hidden from us if all we see is the wrappings.

May you discover the gift within the wrapping and make good use of it.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

How about those wrappings? Do they distract you? How do you cope when the going gets rough? I love it when readers share their stories. Write to me at and for more Love notes visit my web pages at

Incense Meditation

Meditating with incense can offer many benefits; embers become shooting stars, and the silver ribbon of smoke becomes unraveled clouds.

When we focus on incense sticks during meditation, we move into a mystical space that is both physical and spiritual. Like us, the incense stick is earthbound with an ember that burns for only a finite time, but the diaphanous spirit it releases is unbound by time or space. Rather than shutting down our senses to focus on an inner realm, incense involves our senses as we follow whirling smoke upward and outward while we take its scent into us, filling us as we breathe.

The journey starts with a flame, and then a glowing ember releases smoke to rise above us in an ethereal dance. Ashes fall below, purified by the fire. We can use this to imagine negative thoughts being changed from darkness into the beauty of warm gray snowflakes and a scented spun-silver plume, lighter than air. We can watch as our atmosphere is altered to become reminiscent of the heavens and lifts our thoughts: Embers become shooting stars, and the silver ribbon of smoke becomes unraveled clouds. Altered senses may guide our inspired thoughts to travel along new, perhaps undiscovered, pathways.

We can also imagine our physical selves being represented by the incense stick, our inner fire releasing magic into the world. That part of us emanates outward, expanding to mingle with the breath of those around us as we ride the wind to become part of everything. We can also see in the swirling smoke our life’s path, not a straight line but a twirling, meandering ballet that moves us ever onward and upward. We may leave a bit of ourselves behind as we bounce off of our surroundings, working through them, but no matter what we do, we cannot avoid our final destination: oneness with all that is. As spiritual beings enjoying the physical experience of life, incense meditations can help us remember the beauty and wonder of our existence, where heaven and earth, body and spirit, are all available to us in every moment.

Getting What We Want

If we aren’t clear about what we want in life, it won’t be able to find us.

The best way to get what we want from life is to first know what we want. If we haven’t taken the time to really understand and identify what would truly make us happy, we won’t be able to ask for it from those around us or from the universe. We may not even be able to recognize it once it arrives. Once we are clear about what we want, we can communicate it to those around us. When we can be honest about who we are and what we want, there is no need to demand, be rude or aggressive, or manipulate others that are involved in helping us get what we want. Instead, we know that we are transmitting a signal on the right frequency to bring all that we desire into our experience.

As the world evolves, humanity is learning to work from the heart. We may have been taught that the way to get what we want is to follow certain rules, play particular games, or even engage in acts that use less than our highest integrity. The only rules we need to apply are those of intention and connection. In terms of energy, we can see that it takes a lot of energy to keep up a false front or act in a way that is counter to our true nature, but much less energy is expended when we can just be and enjoy connections that energize us in return. Then our energy can be directed toward living the life we want right now.

Society has certain expectations of behavior and the roles each of us should play, but as spiritual beings, we are not bound by these superficial structures unless we choose to accept them. Instead, we can listen to our hearts and follow what we know to be true and meaningful for us. In doing so, we will find others who have chosen the same path. It can be easy to get caught up in following goals that appear to be what we want, but when we pursue the underlying value, we are certain to stay on our right path and continue to feed our soul.

Reiki Grounding and Cleansing Affirmation

Article by Kathleen Johnson

Reiki practitioners are aware of the importance of grounding the client during a Reiki session, and over the years, Reiki has guided me to develop an effective grounding practice. This affirmation effectively grounds the client, as it also releases and removes any incompatible and/or unhealthy energies.

It is also effective for balancing the client’s energies because, in addition to grounding the individual, it connects him/her to Spirit, and centers him/her in the Heart. True balance is achieved when the individual is properly grounded (Earth), connected (Spirit), and centered (Heart).

This technique is taught in all my Holy Fire Reiki Level 1 classes and is applicable and appropriate for any level and/or style of Reiki.

Perform this affirmation near the end of the session, following the hands-on treatment.

While continuing to channel Reiki, begin by gently holding or touching the Receiver’s feet and silently state the following:

“(Receiver’s name) is a child of the Divine, he/she is a child of the Universe, and he/she is your child, Mother.

I affirm that (Receiver) is grounded to your beautiful face, so he/she may walk confidently upon you all the days of his/her lives, secure in your unconditional love.

Your support is pure, your love is unconditional, and we are grateful.

As (Receiver) is grounded to your beautiful face, I affirm that he/she is connected to Spirit.

Reiki Grounding and Cleansing Affirmation

I also affirm that (Receiver) is centered in his/her Heart, as he/she walks in balance throughout his/her life.

For that purpose, I release and remove energies that do not serve the Highest Good.

I release and remove energies that are incompatible with (Receiver’s) path, energies that are not his/hers to carry, and energies that are toxic or detrimental for him/her.

I release, remove, and return these to your loving arms, Mother Earth, to be cleansed, purified, and recycled. And I am grateful.”

Pause and intend that the energies flow through the client, through you, and down into Mother Earth. Hold the space until it feels complete.

“(Receiver) is deeply healed and blessed by Reiki”.

Again, hold the space until the grounding feels complete. You may follow with chakra balancing and testing, if so guided.

As stated above, this technique is quite effective for grounding, centering, and balancing the recipient, as well as for clearing any residual energies. It is my sincere intention that this technique becomes a valuable addition to your Reiki practice.

Herbal Essentials for a Summer Camping Trip

~Traditional Medicinals

All year long we dream of wild and sunny summertime camping adventures. As plant people, some of our favorite camping activities include identifying mushrooms, taking pictures of wildflowers, and discovering new plant friends. Camping is a non-negotiable ritual for many of us here, as it helps us reset and reconnect with both ourselves and the plants in their natural habitat.

As herbalists, we always have our essential tools and plants handy – even when camping. We never leave home without our plant identification guide in tow, whether we’re hiking or doing an overnight trip. This way we can learn more about the origins and benefits of all the wild plants we find along the trail. Whenever possible, we try to pack a camping stove and kettle so we can continue to support ourselves with the power of herbal teas.

Camping can also have its challenges. Many of us fall prey to windborne irritants and bigfoot anxiety–but herbs can help! Here are eight of our must-have plants for any summertime camping trip, many of which are easy to bring in the form of tincture, tea, or bitters blend. We prefer packing tea pouches as they’re lightweight and easy to prep, all you need is hot water.

Many of these herbs are easy to find in stores in our top tea blends. Here’s how we use them in the wild:

Chamomile – Soothing and calming. We love placing cooled Chamomile tea bags over tired eyes to calm and soothe after a long day under the warm summer sun. Or, wind down with Cup of Calm, infused with nervous system soothing chamomile, lavender, passionflower, and catnip.*

Peppermint – Cooling and uplifting, perfect for relieving bloated tummies and as a topical refresher post hike.* If you’re feeling bloated after one too many snack bars (or smores), try a cup of Peppermint tea to untangle your tummy. If you’re a little too hot and need a spritz, refresh with our Peppermint and Rose Water Mist.

Lavender – Relaxing and restorative, ideal for unwinding around the campfire or to quell any occasional camper’s anxiety.* Try it in our Chamomile with Lavender tea to soothe the nerves after hearing all the bigfoot stories. Or, if you enjoy the soothing scent, simply bring lavender essential oil with you and apply a drop to your pillow before bed.

Turmeric – Warming and relieving, turmeric has been used in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine to support everything from digestion and the respiratory system to everyday discomfort. We use our Turmeric with Meadowsweet and Ginger tea to support our body as it responds to aches and pains post hike.* We think it’s the next best option after a hot tub!

Dandelion – Bitter and cleansing. Bitters help optimize digestion, relieve symptoms of gas, bloating, upset stomach, and occasional nausea.* Try sipping on our Roasted Dandelion Root tea as a hearty morning brew, or simply take Urban Moonshine’s Original Digestive Bitters before or after meals to give the gut some extra support.

Passionflower – Uplifting yet relaxing, it helps to reduce nervous system woes and promotes restful sleep.* Sip it in our Nighty Night tea or take some of Urban Moonshine’s Hit the Hay while stargazing so you can sleep soundly through the nighttime noises.

Nettle – Nourishing and tonifying, a wild food and medicinal herb that supports the whole body – including healthy eyes, nose and sinus.* Try it in our Nettle Leaf tea or Urban Moonshine’s blend, Aller-Blast, where it’s combined with adaptogenic reishi.

Echinacea – Protective and stimulating, this herb fires up the immune system when you need it most.* When you’re feeling run down from all the elements or fellow campers are experiencing seasonal woes, rev up your immune system with our Echinacea Plus tea or Urban Moonshine’s Immune Zoom.

Being away from technology and close to nature is often therapeutic enough, but we think bringing these plant allies along will make the trek even more enjoyable. You can learn more about dandelion, passionflower, peppermint, and more of these medicinal herbs here.

These wild spaces also remind us of the significance of the work we do, and the importance of protecting these ecosystems. Many of our plants are collected in their native habitats, like licorice and raspberry leaf, and are done so mindfully through traditional knowledge and a commitment to the FairWild Certification. Learn more about how we’re walking our talk in our most recent Sustainability Report. We’re wishing you happy trails, full of plant medicine.

Chapter Six Gilberto Rides Again

By Stephen Halpert

Despite the threat of rain it was perfect weather for the Fourth of July.

Atlas Senior Staff and their families crowded onto the beach in Narragansett Pier, Rhode Island for their annual 4th of July clambake.

Gilberto positioned his beach chair so he could maintain a commanding view of the area.

Gilberto watched as a classic blue Bentley convertible eased into a parking space. He remembered as a teenager when he’d park cars at the Country Club near Miami how he learned to discern about people from the way their vehicles appeared. This Bentley was a classic from a bygone age; its body patched, painted, repaired. To Gilberto it gave the impression of somehow having made it through the wars.

“I suppose you’d like to tool around in that fancy buggy,” Maria said with a smile. “I’d imagine just the insurance would set us back…”

Gilberto nodded, smiled. “Sure, who wouldn’t.” His attention was drawn to the stocky freckled redhead in a sundress who appeared from the driver’s side. She reached into the back seat, casually picked up a fancy monogramed beach bag, then fastened a blue boot over the back and front seats and strode toward the bathhouses.

“It looks a little like my father’s old Packard,” Maria said. “He drove it when I was little. I remember sleeping across the back seat when we’d be on trips.” Maria unfolded beach towels as Ramon appeared. With him was his younger daughter, Toni.

Joey grinned. “Wow you look bigger.”

Toni grinned. “You just never noticed me before.” She sounded matter of fact, like her mother, Rosa. Together she and Joey ran into the ocean.

Ramon unfolded two beach chairs and set his down beside Gilberto.

Gilberto smiled. “Where’s Rosa?”

“Changing room at the bathhouse.” Ramon said. To Gilberto his voice seemed strained, tight.

Gilberto noticed the redhead disappear into the woman’s bathhouse. Even from a distance he noticed she walked briskly, her head held high, designer sunglasses, freckled complexion. Her mouth betrayed an expression of sorrow, as though she were lost with too many years left to live.

After a short while Joey and Toni emerged from the ocean. Joey looked shocked, shaking his head. “She’s not going to marry him?” he asked?

Toni shrugged. “Who knows, I never said that. But she wants to keep the baby.”

Ramon frowned, gave Toni a stern look. “Enough,” he said forcefully. She appeared embarrassed and fidgeted with her towel.

Moments later Rosa and Sara emerged from the bathhouse. Ramon gasped in surprise. They were chatting affably.

As they drew closer Ramon forced a smile. “Hello,” he said. “You found the beach.” He rubbed the back of his neck.

Sara smiled cordially. She turned to Gilberto. “Oh hello, Mr. Santiago.”

Gilberto smiled. “Call me Gilberto, everyone at Atlas does.”

Sara set down her beach bag and opened a large towel onto the sand.

Then she removed her jacket revealing a modest designer swimsuit highlighted by Olympic stripes.

Gilberto introduced Sara to Maria.

Maria smiled. “I think Gilberto’s covetous of your Bentley.”

“He can have it,” Sara said ruefully.” It was my late husband’s pride and joy.  I’ve never become comfortable with a stick shift and already I’ve had to replace the brakes.” She looked wistful, “I hang onto it for sentimental reasons. Personally, I’d prefer to drive a Camry. But to own a car in Boston is ridiculous. I only drive the Bentley on occasion for trips out of town, otherwise I take a cab.”

“I’ve always driven a stick,” Gilberto said. “These days living in the Back Bay we keep something insignificant. Otherwise the insurance can be a killer.”

Rosa joined the group. She smiled at Sara. “I remember we talked at the Rowan Tree Inn’s fundraiser. Your contribution was very generous.”

Sara smiled. “I had no idea you were married to Ramon. What a small world. Do you do much traveling for the Inn?”

“Yes, Rosa said. “Usually I like Ramon joining me. That way we get a bit of a getaway.”

Smaller world everyday Gilberto thought. He noticed that the sun was starting to hide behind dark clouds.

He smiled at Sara. “I’d be glad sometime to give you some tips about shifting.”

“That would be nice but I must warn you, the Bentley is extremely temperamental, with a mind of its own.”

“That’s true for most British and German vehicles,” Gilberto said. He wondered if Sara was that way as well.

Ramon looked at the sky. “Best to get in a swim before it rains.” He rose, took Rosa’s hand and together they walked into the ocean.

“Thank you for making that offer.” Sara said.

To Maria she sounded just a little too casual. She smiled. “Don’t let Gilberto talk you out of it.”

“That wouldn’t be difficult for him to do,” Sara said. “It’s much more comfortable to sit in than to drive. Perhaps I’m just a natural passenger.”

Ramon and Rosa returned still holding hands.

The old brass bell on the veranda announced that the clambake was ready. Everyone headed for the food, and for the next several hours Atlas senior staff chatted as they feasted on lobster and delicious seafood. Gradually the sky grew darker.

“There could well be a storm coming,” Gilberto said.  “Let’s head back.”

Sara smiled at Maria. “If you’d like Gilberto could drive it back to Boston. That way he’d have a chance to try it out.”

Maria smiled. “Sure,” she said. “I’ll drive our car, and we’ll see you at the condo. Maybe you’d like to stop by for coffee.” Gilberto gave her a kiss and Sara led him to the Bentley.

Despite its age Gilberto loved the feel and precision of the Bentley. It had a smooth, natural flow and hugged the road. He envisioned one of the royal Winsor’s in command. It downshifted easily and he appreciated being behind the wheel of a truly classic of British motoring.

Then the sky darkened further. “Maybe we should pull up the top,” he said.

“Good luck with that,” Sara said. I’ fear it’s permanently open. At least I’ve never been able to budge the roof.”

The wind picked up and a few drops landed on them. Gilberto pulled over but try as he might to raise it, the top seemed locked into its position. “Oh well, he said as he got back on the road, “we might get a little damp.”

Then the engine sputtered and Gilberto noticed that the gas gauge was almost on empty. He eased the Bentley onto Route 95 past Providence, toward Boston. “Must be a gas station somewhere near,” he said. But no such luck. He pulled over, opened his phone and called his roadside service. By the time he made a connection and requested help it was raining harder.

The sky opened. The rain began to fall harder. To his surprise he felt Sara clutch his right thigh.’ You’re so masculine,” she said softly. “I knew you’ll be my hero.” Gilberto couldn’t help but wonder if she’d said the same to Ramon. (To be Continued)

How to Teach Your Cat to High-Five

By Nicole Ellis

Yes, you too can teach your cat tricks. Trick training is a great way to bond together, while also providing enrichment through mental stimulation. To get started in trick training with your cat, keep your sessions short. Five to 10 minutes is plenty of time, just set aside time each day to practice. Cats love routine, so by setting a daily ritual you can help get them excited for training time. In no time you’ll be surprised how much your cat knows.

One of my favorite beginner cat tricks is teaching them to “high five.” This impressive-looking trick simply requires your cat lifting her paw, on cue of course, in a swatting motion, which is a very natural and easy movement for her to perform. Training should be a fun and relaxed experience for both of you.

Ready to get started?

Start by getting out your cat’s favorite treats that she doesn’t get very often. Freeze-dried chicken or roast chicken works great, too! Crinkle or shake the bag to get your cat excited for training time.

Hold a treat in front of your cat near shoulder level. When she reaches out, tell her she was “good” and follow up with a reward.

Practice this for a few days, a few minutes at a time. If she struggles with this, raise the treat above her head a little. No two pets are the same, so try different levels to see what entices your cat to lift her paw.

Once your cat understands this transition to holding the treat in your hand with a reward only when her paw touches your hand, even in the slightest, she will soon understand she needs to touch for the treat.

Offer your open hand and, again, when your cat touches it, say “good” and reward. If your cat doesn’t respond, take your hand away and present it again. If she’s still confused, then go back a step for a refresher.

And just like that, your cat will have mastered high five-ing! I hope these tips spark a love for training your cat and increasing your bond together.

Pro Tips

Consistent training is key. Your cat might not dive quickly into high five the next day. Sometimes we all need a little refresher.

Keep sessions very short; five minutes is a perfect training session. This is hard to do when you are both having fun. However, keeping sessions brief prevents burnout and leaves your kitty wanting more.

Train in the same area daily until your cat understands the behavior.

Pull out the ottoman! Some cats focus better when perched on an elevated platform.

Georgia Nichols Weekly Horoscope: Sunday, June 20, 2021

All Signs

Good news! On Tuesday, Mercury retrograde is officially over! However, its shadow will continue until July 8, so it would be wise to wait until after July 8 to buy big-ticket, Mercury-related items like trucks, cars, cell phones or computers. The Sun is in Cancer for the next four weeks, which will encourage family values and the notions of “clan.” Cancer is about the past as well as hearth and home, and definitely garden and kitchen! Gardeners will be out in full force along with weekend barbecue chefs. This is also a bit of an idealistic week. Of course, Cancer is a sentimental sign, which is why they can’t throw anything away. And George Burns was right: “Happiness is having a large, giving, caring, close-knit family in another city.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Your focus on home, family and your private life will be strong in the next four weeks. Many of you will be more involved than usual with a parent as well. You will enjoy entertaining at home. You will also enjoy redecorating or making where you live look more attractive. Quite possibly, meetings and groups will take place where you live? Book clubs, civic gatherings or protest groups – could be anything. Your ruler Mars will boost your energy and give you the determined resolve to express yourself to others without fear or apology. It might also boost your sex drive! Because it could increase your interest in sports, it will also make you more competitive. (You hate to lose.)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Your daily pace will accelerate in the next four weeks – no question. Suddenly, you have things to do, places to go and people to see! Many of you will also be reading, writing and studying more than usual. You will certainly be in touch with siblings, relatives and neighbours midst all this to-ing and fro-ing. Part of why you will keep on the run is that your home scene is chaotic due to increased activity, visiting relatives, residential moves, renovations or some other reason. Nevertheless, your spirits are high and you’re full of positive hopes for the future. Enjoy group activities and fun times with friends this week. From here on, your moneymaking ideas will unfold more effectively. Ka-ching!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Your focus on your possessions, your wealth and your assets will be stronger in the next four weeks. This is why some of you are seeking a better paying job. Others will look for ways to make money on the side? This is certainly possible because this week, you will attract money, wealth and favours to you. Yes! Bosses and important people might do something that boosts your wealth or your earning power. Meanwhile, something might trigger more profound thoughts. You will start to look at your environment and your daily world and give yourself a report card. You realize how fortunate you are to live where you live and have the affection of your loved ones.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Once a year, the Sun is in your sign for four weeks and that time has arrived. This means it’s your turn to recharge your batteries for the rest of year. The Sun in your sign will also attract people and favourable situations to you, which is why this is such a favourable opportunity! In turn, you will feel generous to others this week. You might want to help someone less fortunate in a distant land. You might also see ways to explore opportunities in publishing, the media, the law and medicine. By nature, you are frugal with your money but this month, you might spend big! (Open your wallet and let a few moths out.)

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Although your personal year is ending, your new year will not begin until the Sun enters your sign four weeks from now. This means, you’re kind of in limbo. Actually, it’s the perfect time to set goals for your new year ahead. What would you like to achieve? The past year was a strange year with Covid restrictions; but now, your new year has promising possibilities! If there’s anything you want to accomplish, be specific about defining your goals. After all, goals will give you a clearer focus on what is important to you. They will give you more clarity in decision-making. They will lead to more control over your future and give you a sense of purpose. Booyah!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You’re looking at a popular month! In the next four weeks, not only will you be more involved with friends as well as groups and organizations, but your involvement with others will benefit you. (This is important to know.) You will also interact with creative, artistic types. The next four weeks are also an excellent window to bounce your hopes and dreams off someone to get their feedback. In some fashion, your involvement with others will lead to a greater interaction with the public at large. You might encourage people to think big or achieve an ambitious goal. Bosses and people in power are willing to listen to you.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Once a year, the Sun sits at the top of your chart for four weeks shining down on you – casting you in a flattering spotlight. It’s a favourable situation and it has arrived! Yay! This is why you will look good to bosses, parents, teachers, VIPs and the police. They will admire you even if you don’t do anything special or anything different. (It’s smoke and mirrors.) Since this influence actually exists for you, obviously, the next four weeks are the perfect time for you to make your pitch and do what you can to advance your agenda. Because Venus is in the picture as well, some of you might strike up a romance with your boss or an authority figure. Meanwhile, you might also help someone else in need.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

In the next four weeks, you have wanderlust! “I’m outta here!” With Covid restrictions lifting in many places, some of you will book a flight to grab a change of scenery and explore adventure! You want to learn something and be stimulated! “I’ve been cooped up too long!” However, this same influence will also bring opportunities in medicine, the law, publishing, the media and anything to do with higher education. You might want to take a course or get further training. You might also become romantically involved with someone “different”. Opportunities to enjoy a vacation, sports events and fun times with kids, as well as social outings will delight. Explore!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You will be more passionate about everything in the next four weeks. Romance will be passionate. Issues will be passionate. And in particular, you will be passionate about assets, shared property and the wealth of someone else. But it’s all good. If you’re negotiating how to divide something, you’ll come out smelling like a rose. Obviously, this means the next four weeks are an excellent time to negotiate mortgages, loans and financial arrangements. Fear not, as the traveller of the zodiac, you’ll be glad to hear that Mars will do its best to bring you opportunities to travel and expand your world! Focus on what’s necessary and the rest will fall in place.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

It’s that time of year when you need more sleep. That’s because symbolically, the Sun will be as far away from your sign as it gets all year and the Sun represents energy. Grab some cat naps in the next four weeks. You will find that your focus on partners and close friends will also intensify. And yet, you will have more objectivity to see these relationships more realistically and to see your role in them. This means you can see how you can improve your style of relating to others – major bonus. Your sex drive will be amped as well. By no means will you have a boring month ahead! (Meanwhile, roll up your sleeves and get hands-on at work.)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

It’s time to sit up and be a person. You intend to be organized, productive and efficient in everything you do. Oh yes, for the next four weeks, you’re setting the bar high. (“I’m going to get dressed and get the mail.”) You will derive great pleasure from making this effort to work smart. Naturally, this will spill over into other areas of your life and you will decide to go on a diet, eat healthier, drink less and exercise more. This sounds like a serious makeover! Nevertheless, ice cream is still tempting, isn’t it? (Blame Venus.) Meanwhile, with fiery Mars opposite your sign, be patient and tolerant when dealing with others because you might feel annoyed. Be nice.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Lucky you! Planetary configurations now guarantee you a fun-loving four weeks ahead! Yay me! The bottom line is you want to have a good time! Take a vacation if you can. If not, take a mini-vacation on weekends. Enjoy sports events, playful activities with kids, romantic interludes, the arts and any chance to express your creative urges. Romance will definitely blossom. New love is possible for some of you, while existing romantic relationships will become even more affectionate and thrilling. Fear not, you won’t forget work. In fact, you’ll have lots of energy to work hard. (Impressive!)

Weekly Horoscopes beginning Sunday, June 20, 2021

If you’re born within a cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you’re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You’re on the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.

Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible detail of everyday and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don’t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.

Personal theme: I am!!

Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19

Your horoscope for this week:

Your priority? It’s to choose your battles wisely. Ignore mere irritations, and instead focus on overdue changes or confronting issues as complex as they are crucial. That may, in fact, be the reason you’ve been sidestepping these. The secret? Do something out of character, and seek guidance from those who’re wiser or more knowledgeable than you. The results will be as swift as they are delightful.

Give some thought to a financial problem that isn’t going to go away. This is not a good time to seek a sub or a loan. All financial doors will seem to be securely locked. If on the other hand a friend promised to pay back a loan by the end of the week, there is no harm in reminding them of how much they owe you. An increased amount of social activity will make a big difference and a welcome change to your normal weekly routine.

A week that begins with a Solstice (ushering fresh vibration) is normally important. This time it seems to be even more so as Mercury turns direct, and both Jupiter and Neptune reach stations prior to turning retrograde. There’s high probability of re-connecting and venturing further afield. In the process, you could reflect on presentation, style and long-term hopes and visions. Decisions don’t need to be made just yet as it could be argued that you are not yet in possession of all the facts (but rapidly gathering these). The discovery that certain people have already come to conclusions about their schedule and workspace could prompt you to think again about how you deal with those matters yourself. Given that the Full Moon midweek accents your professional life, it would be unsurprising if, by Friday, you didn’t want to discuss options with those in position to negotiate.

———— ———– ———- ——— ——– ——- —— —– —- — — –

Personal theme: I have!!

Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20

Your horoscope for this week:

Ordinarily you’re obsessed about getting facts and ensuring details are clear before ideas are turned into lasting plans or arrangements with others; but with the foundation on which these are based shifting daily, your focus is on yet more exploration. Exasperating as that may be now, what you learn and the new ideas that emerge will be forming a solid, if unexpected, foundation for the future.

The withdrawn mood that is with you at the start of the week will swiftly subside. By Wednesday you will be keen to get out in the world and to catch up on all you may have been missing. You might not be too certain about what you are going to do but what you will be aware of is how energetic you are feeling and you won’t want this to go to waste. You’re starting to feel more in control of recent domestic problems.

The combination of Sunday’s solstice with the Full Moon midweek is obviously important for all signs. Together this suggests the need to focus and reach conclusions and make decisions before moving forward. Mercury has only just turned direct. It may be that you need to rethink recent financial decisions and the cost of travel and communications. This week too, Jupiter and Neptune arrive at their retrograde stations suggesting wistful longing for how things have been. However, the world is now very, very different. Clinging on to the past is not an option. All signs need to move forward. In your case, this could lead to considerable discussion about training or refinancing expertise with a view to expanding a working operation.

———— ———– ———- ——— ——– ——- —— —– —- — — –

Personal theme: I think!!

Air sign: May 21 — June 20

Your horoscope for this week:

Chaotic as recent weeks were, you’ll be astonished how much you’ve learnt. Your ruler Mercury’s been retrograde, and while that cycle ends Tuesday, Mercury remains in Gemini until 11 July. This gives you plenty of time to review those twists and turns. While you’re impatient now, the insights that surface will be so valuable that you’ll be grateful for every day of these reflections and insights.

Take the opportunity when it comes your way to show off an artistic or creative talent. Your boss may not have realised all that you are capable of and they will be glad to have your help with a difficult task. Someone might let you down and this will mean you having to take things into your own hands. You will be nervous to have a go at a job you never thought you would be able to do but there is no one as multi-talented as you, as you will be finding out.

Your ruling planet, Mercury, turns direct in your sign. That it arrives at this key station between the Solstice and a Full Moon, suggests all eyes might be on you and the decisions and plans you put forward. Both Jupiter and Neptune reach retrograde stations too: this isn’t a signal for looking back, but does suggest you might want to review aims and objectives held over the last dozen or so years. Not only might these require refining, it may be that you feel have been blown off course and that there is no chance of going back. Yet going back might not be your best move in any case. It could be that what’s really needed is a review of your general direction. Gemini is often thought of as the ‘newspaper’ of the zodiac as others rely on you for news and information. It may be that you now have new sources and along with these, need to find a different presentation style. So yes, much of this week could be about how you put your knowledge on display.

———— ———– ———- ——— ——– ——- —— —– —- — — –

Personal theme: I feel!!

Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22

Your horoscope for this week:

While the Sun’s move into Cancer, on Monday, is bound to lift your spirits, the obstacles you’re facing will require patience. In fact, many of the actual circumstances are unclear, which means patience is vital. You’ll soon begin to focus on shedding what must go; and the future? Be patient until the Cancer New Moon on 10 July. By then, everything will be crystal clear.

Do your best not to let your feelings rule your head. Every now and again you allow strong emotions to colour your judgement. Whether you are married or single, if you meet someone who starts your heart all a flutter, don’t jump into a relationship you might later regret. A significant part of your week will be when someone close has something exciting to share with you and this will be cause for a celebration.

The Full Moon Midweek is in your opposite sign and comes just a few days after the Solstice and the Sun’s entry into Cancer. This week is important in other ways too: Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune each reach stations; cosmic punctuation marks. It’s likely that a colleague to whom you are very close, will arrive at a decision about their long-term plans. Where you fit in is important. There is every possibility, given the fact that Jupiter and Neptune tend to work together, in you being asked to get involved – not necessarily with a volunteer organisation or a charity, but to give without experiencing quick financial reward. The reason you may be asked to do this is because others sense that you are quite capable of holding a vision. In fact, it’s probably not too much to say that you will be central to this planning and happy to be involved.

Personal theme: I will!!

Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22

Your horoscope for this week:

Usually for you, as a Leo, life’s about organising things for certain individuals and inspiring those who need a boost. Yet Monday’s move by your ruler the Sun into the most strategic and, often, reflective portion of your chart takes you within. While some events are a relief, you’ll also be facing issues you’ve struggled to avoid. The time has come to deal with them – and the sooner, the better.

The general pattern of your life is changing as you now take on new direction. You have been prepared for these as recent developments have given you a feeling that change was in the air. You’re about to climb a few more rungs up the professional ladder and although you are gearing yourself for a more challenging time, you also know this will bring you greater happiness and fulfilment.

Marked change in the cosmic weather should be felt from the start of this week. It’s not simply that both Jupiter and Mercury arrive at stations, but that the week begins with the solstice which always brings renewed drive and determination. For you, and having had so much to think about in recent weeks, watching others as they scurry around trying to make up for lost time should have its amusing moments. Around Thursday’s Full Moon their antics could amuse you greatly. Yet simultaneously you might need support from an expert. It’s not that you don’t know what you’re doing or what your plans are, but you may need guidance as to how best to cope with altered rules and regulations. The problem as you see it may not be immediate, but revolves around what might happen closer to your birthday. In short, this week seems to be all about forward planning.

Personal theme: I analyse!!

Earth sign: August 23 — September 22

Your horoscope for this week:

One of your strengths is your talent for defining a problem and, simultaneously, devising a solution. However, as you’ll be discovering between now and mid-July, things won’t be that simple. The obstacles you’re facing aren’t the problem but, rather, that you’re unwilling to seek guidance. This could involve somebody close or an expert. Whatever the case, once you go for it, you’ll understand why it’s so important.

News received is what you have been waiting for. This underscores a career or some other private goal. Now you have the green light to get started on a special project you can’t wait to see where this takes you. Efforts made to clarify a recent misunderstanding will be met with better results than any previous attempts. This is all down to your confident attitude and your determination to make other people sit up and take notice.

Sunday’s solstice coincides with Mercury’s direct station at the apex of your solar chart, suggesting that after weeks and months you’ll have a sense of where you’re going. The real issue is how well you are prepared. This weekend too, Jupiter stations in your opposite sign prior to turning retrograde as does Neptune on Friday. You could think of this is suddenly being given the green light to go on a journey but realising you haven’t packed, bought the tickets or even have sense of timing or schedules. In short, you could quickly get into a flap. You will likely need assistance. That could be forthcoming around Thursday’s Full Moon, – and perhaps from friends and colleagues born under either Cancer or Capricorn. Though they have very different talents and skills, both could enable you to get on your way with ease. The art though as always, is not to panic.

Personal theme: I balance!!

Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22

Your horoscope for this week:

If it seems that what once worked is coming undone, it’s no surprise. Actually, this is about a timely review of existing arrangements and future plans. While you’ve been aware some must go, others seemed fine if, perhaps, dull. For now, merely mull over changes, nothing more. Why? Because ideas or options beyond anything you’ve previously considered will soon appear; and you need to be ready for them.

A number of responsibilities and new commitments loom on the horizon. You might be looking for ways to ease your burdens. If you sit back and wait for the tide of hard work that’s about to engulf you to come in, you will only have yourself to blame when you can’t cope. Take this chance to plan ahead and even to clear away a few loose ends so you are better able to manage in time to come.

We are now at that time of year when the Sun crosses the apex of your solar chart and you should give thought to what you want to achieve before your birthday. 2021 is special in that the Sun’s Cancer ingress coincides with Mercury’s direct station. You likely now have fresh ideas which, though they’ve been incubating for a few weeks, will astound some people who were oblivious to work that’s been going on in the background. On top of this, Jupiter turns retrograde. For the next few weeks refining, reviewing and preparing to make key presentation will likely dominate your working hours. Actually, it may be that these tips over into playtime. It won’t be at all surprising if one area of your home becomes mission control for this project.

Scorpio & Ophiuchus

Personal theme: I desire!!

Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21

Your horoscope for this week:

The past few weeks’ events probably convinced you that certain once-prized arrangements really must come to an end. Still, as a Scorpio, you’d rather stick with what you know, and if changes are unavoidable, keep them to a minimum. Relax. This won’t come naturally, but it’ll make it easier for you to spot the astonishing, and entirely unexpected, events soon to come your way. Until then? Declutter.

You’re sure in your own mind about what you want to do. In a group situation you may have to show patience. Although you feel your ways are the best ones, you should give others a chance to air their views. Even if the final agreement is that these aren’t a patch on your own ideas, at least it will help everyone feel they are contributing to what is supposed to be a team effort. Delegate where and when you can.

It has long been recognised that Scorpio values integrity and loyalty above almost everything. This week, with both Mercury and Jupiter arriving at stations, it might seem that certain individuals are saying one thing but doing another. By Thursday’s Full Moon you may feel the need to make clear that you can’t be messed around with any longer. You need to know the facts. That these are different to those presented just a couple of weeks ago might not disturb you quite as much as someone prevaricating or disguising an altered approach. We are at that time of year when your expertise tends to shine through. Don’t be surprised if others look to you to take a lead and confront if necessary. This is perhaps time for you to enjoy your obviously valued status within a group; but yes, temporarily, you may need to take on a role that doesn’t feel entirely comfortable.

Personal theme: I see!!

Fire sign: November 22 — December 21

Your horoscope for this week:

You may have been born under one of the most inquisitive signs of the zodiac; but that doesn’t mean you’ll be happy about the sudden changes or, possibly, completely unexpected events that could transform your life. True, these are adventurous, yet they require you explore ideas and territory so new you don’t know where to begin. Relax. Destiny will show you the way.

A special goal will absorb your interest. This will demand concentration and self-discipline. Seeking a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed will be the best way to approach this challenge. As much as you aren’t very keen on strict routines, forward planning will ensure everything gets done in good time. A partner might be looking to make a change whereas you feel happy with the way things are. In all relationships you feel more comfortable in the driver’s seat.

This week begins with the solstice which always marks a change in the cosmic weather. This year that event coincides with Mercury turning direct in your opposite sign and comes just a couple of days after Jupiter turns retrograde at the base of your solar chart. Together, all this signals fresh attitude, new pace and new rhythm. It’s likely that someone you’ve been working with will move to action stations. That might require you to dig deep into an archive and retrieve either old photographs or letters. This flurry of activity should suit you well. Determining your legacy and how you want people in your present work to talk about you through references or in conversation seems super important. Perhaps the most interesting feature of this week is the promise of renewed contact with someone – most likely a Pisces – with whom you share history and, in whose life, there are singular developments.

Personal theme: I use!!

Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19

Your horoscope for this week:

Theoretically, Thursday’s Capricorn Full Moon offers a valuable opportunity to observe what you’re happy about or not. That may happen, but you’ll also be wrestling with tedious practicalities and misunderstandings, limiting time for personal reflection. That’s the point. Others’ difficulties aren’t your problem. Back off, then turn your attention to delving into your own questions. You’ll soon discover some are far more important than you realise.

A friend or neighbour will contradict themselves when discussing something about the past. You might decide not to pick up on this chance to catch them out but you will bear their careless thoughtlessness in mind in the future. A private project carried out in seclusion will give you a lot of satisfaction. This is a good time to develop new talents and to further your study interests. You will be happy to leave family and friends to their lively plans while you stay in the background.

By next weekend, Mars will have left your opposite sign. Until then the accent is on building new partnerships. With Mercury in direct motion and the Sun moving through your opposite sign, it should be obvious that others are rethinking their position and the time and commitment they are prepared to put in to revised working arrangement. That said, and especially around the Full Moon in your sign on Thursday, you may need to make clear what is and what is not negotiable. It might seem that others are taking liberties. Actually, they may have been doing this for the last few weeks. Now you may need to call a halt to their antics and make clear the challenges that must be faced if you are to continue working together. Yes, this could be stressful: it may though be necessary if you are to avoid future work headaches.

Personal theme: I know!!

Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18

Your horoscope for this week:

Your mood as you begin the week will depend largely on whether you’ve discovered how recent sudden and probably unsettlingly ideas, events or changes will benefit you. True, they mean altering your approach to familiar elements of your life and, possibly, your objectives.

Personal theme: I believe!!

Water sign: February 19 — March 20

Your horoscope for this week:

You may already have realised that whatever plans you’re making, they must be considered tentative. As a Pisces and a perfectionist, that’s not your style; but you’ve no choice. However, others aren’t just uncertain about their next move, the foundation on which those plans are based is shifting, and will continue to do so for some months; but so, will your own priorities, as you’re about to discover.

Heavy work or outside responsibilities are interfering with your family life. If this is temporary, you will soon get into the swing of things once your routine gets back to normal. If there is any chance this new situation is a permanent one you may have to change your priorities. This is a time when two is company and three is a crowd. Arranging a romantic date with someone special or a cosy evening listening to music and discussing the future will make for a relaxed ending to the week.

It’s not necessary to give you a list of all the events happening in the sky over the next seven days: all you need to know is that the cosmic weather is vastly different to how it was last week. It should be ‘all systems go’. It’s probable that this will put you in something of a flap. You may not know which task to tackle first. Priority surely must be given to domestic matters. Yes, although others want to see you out and about, it’s likely that before you can do that, there is something that has to be attended to at home and as a matter of urgency. There may be a costly repair or it could be about inviting people in that you haven’t seen for some time. Either way, before progress could be made in your working life (career), these matters likely demand attention.
