Happy Blue Full Moon!
Till I scarcely more than muttered “Other friends have flown before—
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.”
Then the bird said “Nevermore.”
–Edgar Allan Poe (1809–49)
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake.
–William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
“The autumn woman moves towards dreamtime. Though she knows her limits, she has also felt limitless. She has known the ineffable. She wakes at night from dreams of high windy places where small blue flowers bloom, and she knows in her bones that such places exist. Luminous beings appear in her dreams and pull her towards them. She recognizes the dust of infinity in a windstorm, the fragrance of timelessness in a fire…”

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

October 26, 2020 – November 1, 2020 is the last week of October and it brings us two sign changes as Mercury and Venus move into Libra, which should cool off some of the Scorpio energy and make it more manageable. In Libra, Mercury likes to weigh all the options before committing to an idea, and Venus seeks harmonious relationships that are diplomatic, kind, and civilized.
So, if you need to express political or controversial opinions, do it before Tuesday because people may tune you out. Later in the week, the ‘spooktacular’ Halloween Full Moon occuring in Taurus should rattle a few cages, but in addition to the Full Moon, we have the Sun opposing Uranus. Expect the unexpected to occur. Finally, on Sunday, Mercury will form a tense square to Saturn in Capricorn.
Although your mood may be melancholy and it may take an extra dose of caffeine to get you going, it’s a good day to focus on practical matters and complete tasks that need attention to detail.
Best Coventry Candles this week are, BHC Inner Balance, Prosperity and Needed Change, and Wicked Good Florida Water.
Become present and feel the power in your words
The way you turn a phrase can turn your world topsy turvy or set it to rights. This is most notable in magic and intention work. Wishing for a good outcome is not even close to the same league as declaring your success at a specific date and time. We have studied this at Coventry and every blessing on every label has been deliberated over, tested, rewritten, and edited by the best of us. We have now created a new layer to turning your want into a magical declaration, candle holders!
The card drawn for this week is the Seven of Cups Reversed.
Are you making the best decisions for yourself?
This week with the Seven of Cups reversed, you may find that you face several different choices.
Instead of choosing the option that appeals to others, you’re relying on your inner wisdom and guidance to show you the best way.
Come up with your own criteria to help you make decisions in alignment with your inner being.
Ground yourself first and reflect on what you want for the long-term. All these shiny new objects in front of you have a certain power over you right now, and you’re at risk of losing focus if you chase after pipedreams.
Take a step back and assess the options against your priorities to work out which opportunities will be a real benefit to you.
If you feel overwhelmed by so many choices and cannot move forward, reduce your options. Focus on what is important to you.
Ask the Tarot: Is this aligned with my highest good?

Honoring the Mighty Dead
BY RAVEN DIGITALIS
Those who have crossed the veil before us deserve to be honored, especially at this time of year.
Gather photos and representations of your deceased loved ones, and lovingly set them on an altar. Decorate the shrine with offerings of candles, food, drink, grains, toys, and anything the deceased enjoyed while incarnated on the earth plane.
Talk and communicate with each of the beloved dead individually. As you do so, discuss their positive qualities and write them on a piece of paper. Continue doing this for all ancestors on the shrine so that you are left with a piece of paper filled with positive qualities that you wish to embody in your own life. Thank the deceased for their work on this planet. Pin this magickal paper next to your bedside so you can meditate on these positive qualities every day, further invoking them into your life.
BY BARBARA ARDINGER
This Samhain night is also a blue moon, which is the second full moon of any month. Gather your circle for a Samhain blue moon ritual tonight. Prepare tokens that symbolize good fortune. (If you plan far enough ahead, you can collect wishbones and paint them with blue glitter.) Ask your priestess du jour to dress like the Blue Fairy in Disney’s Pinocchio and lead everyone in a meditation to find out what wishes their hearts make. At the end of the meditation, the Blue Fairy can give everyone a glittery wishbone or a piece of blue lace agate and this magical verse written in blue ink on the palest blue paper:
On this night when the moon is blue,
I hear your wish and make it true!
-The Blue Fairy
Go around the circle telling what your wishes are. Figure out practical ways to help them come true.
Flush and Be Gone!
BY MICHAEL FURIE
Just before the Samhain festivities begin, a simple banishing of troublesome little things could be in order. This is a great time to get rid of unnecessary things so that we enter the dark time ready to begin a fresh cycle with a minimum of distractions.
An easy, effective, at-home banishing can be done with a few easily obtainable things: a felt-tip marker and some toilet paper. Write what you wish to be rid of on pieces of toilet paper while visualizing being free of these things. Crumple up each piece of paper individually and toss it in the toilet. Flush them away, and as you do so, say:
Unbind and release, flush and be gone;
obstacles banished, the battle is won.
From unneeded burdens, I now break
free; into the future I travel with ease.
To Commune with Your Ancestors
BY CHARLIE RAINBOW WOLF
This is the season when the veil between our world and other realities is thinnest, making it the perfect time to reach out to and visit with your ancestors. Their blood courses through your veins; you’re already bonded. This spell strengthens those ties. You’ll need a pen and paper, catnip, rose petals, a heatproof surface, and a lilac-colored candle and something to light it with.
Write down the names of the ancestors you wish to remember. Sprinkle the catnip and rose petals on the heatproof surface. Place the candle on top and light it. Gaze into the flame, and read out the name of the person(s) you’d like to spend time with. Focus on the light of the candle binding you together. Feel their DNA in you as you sit in the glow of the flame. When you’re finished, pinch out the candle, but leave it on the herbs, with the list of names next to it, until November 3.
BY DEVIN HUNTER
Last night, Venus entered Libra, a sign that embodies this planet’s hunger for beauty and attention. Cast this spell on yourself so that everyone who sees you will find some aspect of you absolutely desirable. All you need is a pink candle in a holder and something to carve it with.
Using your carving tool, etch the symbol of Venus (T) into one side of the candle, and the symbol for Libra (g) into the other. On the bottom of the candle, etch your initials. Light the candle, then cover your eyes and say:
See no ugliness, see no fear,
see only what you hold dear.
Cover your ears and say:
Hear no wickedness, hear no lies,
listen only to what sounds wise.
Lastly, put your hands a few inches in front of your mouth and say:
Speak only flattery, taste only sweet,
give me your attention from head to feet!
Let the candle burn out safely on its own.
Sweet Words Spell
BY KATE FREULER
Every day we deal with people with whom we just can’t seem to communicate for some reason. We simply don’t vibe with certain individuals, and no matter how hard we try, our words always seem to come out wrong, causing awkward or upsetting results. If this keeps happening to you, try this spell.
Place your lip balm or gloss in a bowl of sugar. Place your hands over the bowl and envision your words flowing from your lips eloquently, communicating perfectly what you’d like to say. See the result of your words causing the recipient to smile in response. Feel the understanding blossoming between the two of you. Cover the bowl of sugar with a cloth and leave it overnight.
The next day, put on your lip gloss like always and try to set things right. Dispose of the sugar, or use it in your coffee, tea, or baking to bring more sweetness to you.
BY SUSAN PESZNECKER
Put together a miniature “brave kit” so you’ll always be prepared to deal with frightening or malevolent forces.
- A small hinged tin (the kind breath mints come in)
- Flash paper
- A white tealight candle and holder
- Matches in a waterproof container
- Small stones or crystals (fluorite, obsidian, and amethyst are ideal)
- Charged water (i.e., water that has been charged in the light of the sun or the full moon)
- A small piece of soft fabric
- A small “golf” pencil
- 1 or 2 iron nails
- Small vials with screw-on lids (for the water and salt)
Fit the items into the tin box. You’re now prepared for a variety of spells and conjures. Cast a circle with the salt, write spells on flash paper and cast/ ignite them into being, work candle magic, set up a small altar on the fabric, asperge an area with water, use the iron nails for protection against negative energy, and so forth.
Meditation Magic, A Full Moon and Mercury Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde is in its final week of retrogradation, and we are sure that by now, we all felt its effects. This is certainly not a time to push forward, but it’s rather a time to take a breather, introspect, reflect, work, and improve what is already existing both inside and on the outside.
And during these introspections, and seeing the little imperfections and possible improvements, while nothing goes forward can be a really harsh time for anyone. So, the most important thing to remember during this Mercury Retrograde is to be compassionate to yourself.
Think of yourself as a close friend, or as a child that is still learning, and treat yourself with understanding, kindness, and compassion. It’s easy to fall back to your old patterns and judge yourself, or kick yourself while you are down, but how is that any way to create your own damn magic gorgeous?
About the Jez of It
A witch believes that life itself is sacred, and anything that sustains life is holy. There are four basic elements that form and sustain our lives. Air, fire, water, and earth. Witches believe that when all four elements meet and combine life begins. We need air to breathe, water to drink, earth beneath our feet, and fire to keep warm. Without any one of these elements we cannot exist, life cannot exist.
If we look beyond the physical manifestation of life, as witches do, we can get a sense of the symbolic, energetic, mysterious, and occult traits of the elements. For example, air represents communication and thought, the power of knowing. Fire, our passions and drives, the power of will. Water, our dreams, emotions, and visions, the power of daring. Earth, our ability to be pragmatic, practical, and realistic, the power of the wisdom of silence.

Heartwings Love Notes 955 Freedom to Be Free
Heartwings says: “We may have to do without to know what we are missing.”
Remember when you hugged people when you met them or they departed? How normal it was to shake hands? The freedom to be spontaneous with others has disappeared from our lives. I miss it, especially the hugs. Smiles, too I miss. Behind a mask smiles are hidden, and I like to see smiles. To be sure this is all temporary, and one day these restraints will be gone, if not forgotten. I cling to that when I feel the loss of my freedom to act the way I always have.
It never occurred to me that these behaviors I miss could go away. I never dreamed of this “new normal,” nor expected to encounter it. Most likely not many have. The last pandemic was over a hundred years ago, so there is not likely to be anyone who would have a memory of it unless they were more than a hundred and five or more. I didn’t realize that was what killed my grandfather. I’d only heard he took ill and died during WWI in France in 1918, not what he died from.
I miss the freedom to go shopping just for the fun of it, or to stroll through Marshals or Ocean State Lot to see what’s on sale. It never seemed to be anything special to do; it was just a normal part of life. So was going to the library or he senior center. Of course, compared to some countries in the Mideast or other places where people are fleeing violence and terror, the USA is far better off. I still have the freedom to walk the streets, drive my car wherever I wish to, or order takeout from a restaurant. That freedom is not universal worldwide and cannot be taken for granted, either. This is something I try to remember when I am tempted to complain.
Freedom to do as I wish is something I cherish. I hope that wherever I go or whatever I do when I regain it, I will remember what I it was like to do without that privilege. I hope too that when I hug a friend or shake the hand of a stranger that I will do it mindfully, remembering what it was like when Covid 19 permitted me only to give “air” hugs or bump elbows. No one knows when that will be. We all hope it will be soon.
May you appreciate your freedom when it returns.”
Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

The Power of Pathworking
BY SIMON COURT
Grimoire and Wand
I always wanted to be a magician. From an early ag,e I knew that was the way for me. Not your rabbit from a hat prestidigitator nor vanishing cabinet illusionist. No. I wanted to be a real magician, a student of the magic arts. But where to start and what indeed made up those magic arts? I found The Magician, His (sic) Training and Work, by W.E.Butler.
Aha. “Magic is the art and science of making changes in consciousness according to will,” I read. Here was a definition I could take on board. And from these first readings I was led to The Mystical Qabalah, written by Dion Fortune. In the back of this book was a brief discrete note that the Society of the Inner Light offered courses. So, this fortuitous chain of events led me to those who offered training in what I wanted to do.
The journey began, first with that Order and then with The Servants of the Light when the Society withdrew from teaching. What made this so wonderful for me was that back in those days, the middle of the last century, there was very, very little published on the topic that was from a reputable source.
But, no matter where my studies took me, that first definition of magic remained my touchstone. It guided my learning, both in the occult arts and in more usual skills, skills more closely related to making a living and developing my own life, needs, preferences.
In the course of this I found another aphorism that resonated: “What is above is like what is below, but after another fashion.”
Studying above and below in terms of supposed “Planes of Existence,” the finer ones stacked upon the most physical of everyday outer experience, led easily and logically to rephrasing the rule as, “What is without is like what is within.” This is in terms of the one being derived from the other. I had learned that the outer world is a manifestation of some inner forces or principles, so I decided that the inner and outer nature of me, of people, was exactly the same, built upon the same dichotomy and relationship.
It followed that what we experienced in our meditations flowed out through our changing self into the changing world of effects. And so it was that I came to pathworkings.
My first pathworkings and fantasy journeys were specific individual journeys to experience principles, thoughts, feelings on the inner that would flow out as changes to the way I related to the outer.
When the “New Age” mind-and-manifestation people did their inner visualizations to obtain an item in the world it often worked. But, it did not work because their inner mind power had created or manifested that item in the outer. Nor was it because their inner work had attracted the item to them. It was because their inner work had led them to see details they might have missed, to sometimes choose between options with values changed by inner work, leading them down different paths to those that would otherwise have been taken. They achieved the objects of desire by the interaction of their changed inner nature with an unchanged outer world. Their work did not lead the item desired to them. Rather, it led them to the item. A new harmony between within and without had been created.
This is magic.
And this is why the great writers of the last century emphasized inner change, changes in consciousness in accordance with will.
It was not long before I fell in love with the Pathworking method and studied and worked towards building an integrated set of workings that would address different aspect of my inner nature, my imaginings, my thinking and the dynamics behind my decisions to action.
After some time, some experimentation, some testing, and some research, I had built a structured intertwined set of pathworkings to address how a person presents in the world of their experience and to give that person subtle control over their world of both action and thought. I assembled these into a book, The Magic of Pathworking.
I read somewhere that, “the beginner magician takes his (sic) armor off when the battle has just begun.” I cannot find that reference now. It may have been Aleister Crowley. The magical task of restructuring the inner self to no-fuss archetypal principles is like putting the sports clothes on before the event, perhaps even before warming up.
If we want to see events in the world unfolding according to our inner nature, then the first task would be to synchronize that inner nature with reality, to bring inner and outer into accord. Once in accord an examination of where inner thoughts, feelings are heading may well give an indication as to where outer events are heading. Once inner and outer match, then reading the winds of change within may give clues to the winds of change without.
And this brings us to magical ritual.
Ah. The regalia. The accoutrements. The barbarous words and phrases of power. A wand, cut at the right time from the right tree, lovingly shaped and inscribed with mystic symbols. Barbarous words of power in a long dead language. An old magic mirror, bought at auction.
You will find that all magic is performed on the inner. Outer regalia and tools serve only to help the mind set the scene. Outer movements and spoken words assist others of a group to synchronize their inner working, which is where the real magic takes place. My priestess and I make the three circumambulations to open the circle for our group. What we are really doing is ascending a spiral staircase together in the turret of a castle. Or sometimes we are walking a circular track up a conical hill in the centre of a plain. All our group participants are in the same inner reality.
One of my teachers said that a group of magicians could perform a rite while riding on the subway. Magicians can perform, and have performed, rites in the same inner space while physically scattered across the globe.
Magic takes place on the inner. And the technique used for this is exactly the same as pathworking. I have set this down in a new book that is just about ready for submission. Some might say that I am giving away secrets here. Well, the second book on magic I acquired was written by Dion Fortune, and she was wont to say: “The greatest secrets of magic can be shouted from the rooftops, but only those with ears to hear will hear.”
But why do we do these things at all? To gain power and riches? To bend others to our will?
Perhaps some do.
I happen to think that the true worth is changing oneself in ways that let those positive changes within flow out into reality, lifting it. It is a “rubber sheet” theory. If you take a rubber sheet with the edges fixed in place and pinch and pull one point upward, other parts are also pulled upwards to varying degree. If the magician rises, they pull up others with them.
I say “rising,” but only by means of illustration. A better fit is the idea of a journey, a quest, and the distribution of benefits or a return with the prize.
What is it all for? This brings us to mysticism.
My mysticism is always Quest-and-return. The Qabalistic magician might ascend the Tree of Life in their magic, the way of evolution, later to descend the way of involution, bringing back the Prize to make it real or available for others and themselves. The Quest is a fundamental theme in human tales going back into the mists of time. It appears in those modern science fiction tales where the hero, gender irrelevant, alone or in company, attains something that benefits all, or saves the Galaxy. And it occurs in the stories handed down among the First Australians, some going back well over 20,000 years. A quest or task, pitched against trial and adversity, to achieve a prize, not for self but for community, local or global. And often with this is told the price of failure. Or misuse.
Among many Europeans, and especially those of British origins, the Quest of Quests is that of the Grail. This is why I have prepared a work of pathworkings that take the practitioner in the steps and through the adventures of the knight Percival. The attaining of the Grail and the just as important return of the Grail’s mystery to the kingdom of everyday life are foundation themes in European cultures.
And this takes us beyond.
For the Grail is but one expression of something fundamental embedded in human nature—the Quest. Be it the Grail, lost treasure, artifacts on a distant world, lost treasures in this world, the ancient Teacher in the Himalayas, the unattainable lover, the Beatrice, the Dulcinea, El Dorado, Shangri-La, and so many more, it is the attainment of the unattainable object or person of desire. It is the Impossible Dream made real.
The idea that this is fundamental to human nature is a subject of mysticism. All magical study and practice leads to this goal. And it all boils down to some quite simple principles: lost and found, separation and reconciliation, exile and homecoming, and more.
In the quests there is the start, the goal, and the journey between. This is followed by the return that is the resolution of the opposites. These are three parts, the two poles and the between. The between may be a path or a barrier.
There is here a core theme of human existence. My current work is not a set of pathworkings. It is a presentation of the many different forms of this foundation principle. Each chapter addresses an aspect of separation/reconciliation, such as exile/homecoming, personality dissociation/reintegration, separation of lovers and their reconciliation, the Fritz Perls empty chair/two-chair tool, and much more.
It is written in two styles to present the resolution of poetry and prose into a whole meaning. Then the resolution is wholeness, and resolution occurs at the boundary. The boundary that initially separates becomes the solution that unites.
The mid Twentieth Century jazz pianist Thelonius Monk, who had a Middle Eastern musical background, once said that he would play two adjacent notes to hint at the quarter note between them. So this work consists of chapters in two parts, a grail motif in a poetic story form together with a psychological exegesis on the theme, with references to supporting academic literature. This work is current, nearly complete in story, note and reference form. I hope this little essay has given some idea of what I am about and what I am attempting to say. But more than that, I hope it has been useful in its own right.
May your travels be rewarding.
Change Of Season
We can celebrate the change of season and shift our own energy by setting some time aside to make the same changes we see in nature.
In today’s world, office jobs and supermarkets have made it possible to work and provide for ourselves and our families regardless of nature’s cycles. While most of us no longer depend directly on nature’s seasons for our livelihood, our bodies’ clocks still know deep down that a change of season means a change in us too. If we don’t acknowledge this, we may feel out of sync, as though we have lost our natural rhythm. These days, autumn is more likely to bring thoughts of going back to school than harvesting, but in both cases, the chill in the air tells us it’s time to move inside and prepare for the future.
We can consciously celebrate the change of season and shift our own energy by setting some time aside to make the same changes we see in nature. We can change colors like the falling leaves and wilting blooms by putting away our bright summer colors and filling our wardrobes and living areas with warm golds, reds, and browns. While plants concentrate their energy deep in their roots and seeds, we can retreat to quieter, indoor pursuits, nurturing the seeds of new endeavors, which need quiet concentration to grow. We can stoke our inner fires with our favorite coffee, tea, cider, or cocoa while savoring the rich, hot comfort foods that the season brings in an array of fall colors: potatoes, apple pies, pumpkin, squash, and corn. As animals begin growing their winter coats and preparing their dens for hibernation, we can dust off our favorite sweaters and jackets and bring blankets out of storage, creating coziness with throw rugs and heavier drapes. We can also light candles or fireplaces to bring a remnant of summer’s fiery glow indoors.
By making a conscious celebration of the change, we usher in the new season in a way that allows us to go with the flow, not fight against it. We sync ourselves up with the rhythm of nature and the universe and let it carry us forward, nurturing us as we prepare for our future.
Checks and Balances
When we see ourselves in other people, it can be a great opportunity for growth if we are willing to do the work.
Most of us have probably come across the universal wisdom that the people who irritate us the most are expressing qualities that we ourselves have. This is why family members can be so vexing for so many of us — we see ourselves in them, and vice versa. This isn’t always true, of course, but when it is, it’s a real opportunity for growth if we can acknowledge it, because it is infinitely easier to change ourselves than it is to try to change another person, which is never a good idea. For example, if we have a coworker who engages in some kind of negative behavior, like complaining or trying to control everything, we can look and see if we ourselves carry those traits.
We may have to look to other situations in our lives to see it, because we behave differently in different environments. Perhaps we don’t complain at work, because our coworker overdoes it, but maybe we do it with our friends. Maybe we aren’t controlling at the office, but we’re used to being in control at home, and this is why we feel so irritated not to be in control at work. Even if we look and find that we are not engaging in the same behavior that we see as negative in others, we can still learn from what we are seeing in this person. The truth is, human nature is universal, and we share many of the same tendencies. What we see in others can always help us to understand ourselves more deeply.
Having the ability to see something in another person, and automatically bring this observation back to ourselves, is like having a built-in system of checks and balances that enables us to be continually engaged in self-exploration and behavior change. When we see behavior we don’t like, we can make a concerted effort to weed it out of ourselves, and when we see behavior we do like, we can let it inspire us to engage in imitation. Through this process, we read our environment and let it influence us to bring out the best in ourselves.
by Stephen Halpert
It was a chilly sunny morning on Halloween. Joey and his puppy Oscar were playing on the esplanade. Joey kicked Gilberto’s soccer ball and Oscar jumped and ran in pursuit. He couldn’t quite land his paws onto it and had to push it back to Joey with his head and body. Oscar left the ball by Joey’s feet.
Joey looked up and saw a woman dressed completely in white.
At first, he could hardly see her. The sun seemed to block his view. Nonetheless he smiled politely. ” Hello, I’m Joey.”
Oscar shivered and began to whimper.
Although she smiled, he couldn’t tell where she was looking. “I’m Martha Skeffington, Mrs. Royal Skeffington. Is that your dog.”
Joey nodded. “His name’s Oscar. He’s a Silky Terrier but not very good at playing soccer.”
She seemed to back away. “I’ve always been nervous around dogs.” She clutched a monogrammed silk handkerchief to her lips. “Even little ones like yours.”
Joey nodded. He’d never seen her before. There was something about her however that bothered Oscar. He kept whimpering and scurrying in circles.
“Do you live near here?” Joey said.
She smiled. “I think I still do. But I’ve since learned we can’t be sure of anything, especially whatever we may think we’re sure of.”
“Even if this is where you live?” Joey said.
“Especially.” Her voice trailed off.
Gilberto and Maria walked over to Joey and Oscar.
“Hi Gilberto, hi mom. This is Mrs. Skeffington.” He turned to where she had been standing. “She said she was nervous around dogs so I guess she left.”
“I don’t see her,” Gilberto said. “Are you sure”?”
“I was just talking to her,” Joey said. “I promise, Gilberto. She couldn’t of gone very far.” He looked around.” She was all dressed in white.”
Gilberto nodded and looked across the expanse of concrete and grass. No one was visible. “She must have disappeared into thin air,” he said.
“You mean like a ghost or a spirit?” Joey asked.
Gilberto looked at Maria and shrugged. “I wouldn’t go quite that far.”
Everything she wore was white, even her shoes,” Joey said. Oscar cowered and continued to whimper.
Maria picked up Oscar. What’s wrong little one? Why are you all freaked out?”
“Be careful,” Gilberto said. “You’re not supposed to lift anything. Couldn’t it hurt the baby?”
“You’re a fussbudget,” Maria smiled. “Really Gilberto, not to worry.”
Joey took Gilberto’s hand. “Are we going trick or treating tonight,” he asked? “Please?”
“If it doesn’t rain,” Gilberto said.
“The lady,” Joey said, “she told me her name is Mrs. Skeffington,”
Maria continued to comforted Oscar. He was clearly upset. Her voice soothed him. “He’s acting like he’s seen a ghost,” Maria said. “Dogs can see things we can’t. They sometimes get spooked around the supernatural.”
“That’s understandable,” Gilberto said. “I probably do too.”
Maria smiled and looked around. “Dear Mrs. Skeffington,” she said. “You are always welcome to visit us. We’re in condo 6B.”
Gilberto rolled his eyes. “Are you crazy? Inviting a dead person to just stop in and say hello.”
“I don’t see why not,” she said. “They can visit anyway but don’t always become visible. She sounds holy all in white that way. Maybe she’s got good news or a blessing to share with us.”
“She held a silky white handkerchief, mom,” Joey said.
Maria set Oscar down. He pressed against Joey’s leg.
“Gilberto what time can we go trick or treat?” Joey asked.
` Gilberto looked at Maria. “Whatever time works for you.”
“Maybe around four before it starts to get really dark, she said. “We can walk around Louisburg Square, check out Charles Street and stop for ice cream.”
Gilberto had to laugh at how Joey looked at the mention of ice cream. “Just remember,” he cautioned” ice cream might taste good but all that sugar can be dangerous to your health.”
“I know,” Joey said. “That’s what they told us in school, but it sure tastes good anyway. I wonder if Mrs. Skeffington likes ice cream?”
Gilberto laughed. “Why don’t you ask her?”
Maria chuckled. “Well, it’s Halloween. My grandmother always said this is the time for spirits to return to pass amongst the living.”
Joey’s eyes widened. “You mean dead people can come back?”
“Not everybody thinks that way,” Gilberto said. He gave Maria his why do you tell him things like that look.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if Mrs. Skeffington became our friend,” Joey said.
“It’s possible,” Maria said. “I think we should go in and have some lunch.”
Later that afternoon, with Oscar on his leash, they left to take Joey trick or treating. Seeing some kids from his school he ran ahead. Gilberto took Maria’s hand. “You don’t have to tell him fanciful things that could influence how he thinks.”
“He’s fine,” Maria said. “Nothing wrong with exposing him to thinking about ghosts. To me they’re very real. But you didn’t have a grandmother like Sarah. Every year at Halloween she’d bake a platter of cookies and put them outside on her porch. When it got late, she’d bring in the platter. All the cookies would be gone.”
He chuckled. Maybe neighboring kids or animals.”
She shrugged. “Maybe. But I’d prefer to think it was visitations from spirits who liked her baking.”
Joey came running back. “Some big kids are taking little kids’ candy. When someone told them ‘no’ he got a bloody nose.”
“That isn’t fair,” Maria said. “It takes away from the spirit of Halloween.”
They proceeded down Mt. Auburn street to Charles. Three rough looking kids blocked their path. “Look at all that candy,” one said and grabbed for Joey’s Halloween bag.
“I wouldn’t do that,” Gilberto said quietly.
“Oh yeah,” another kid said. “Three of us, only one of you.”
“That’s true,” Gilberto said. “But if I were you, I’d move on and leave us alone.”
Gilberto thought he smelled alcohol. The three of them laughed, sneered and then as though on cue rushed at him.
He sidestepped them and kicked one just below his knee, his hand chopped at another’s neck.
Even though he was on a leash, Oscar began to bark and jump at them. Two of the kids screamed and backed away. The third, older and bigger, grinned and snarled.
“You asked for it,” he yelled. He stepped forward and pulled out a knife. Gilberto saw him move toward Maria.
But before Gilberto could reach Maria, a white gloved hand struck the kid’s shoulder hard and threw him to the ground. Dropping the knife, he landed on his face. It skidded away and ended up near Gilberto’s feet. A cut over the kid’s eye started to bleed.
“Get out of here and stop picking on little ones.” Gilberto’s voice was angrily firm. He picked up the knife and handed it to Maria. She put it in her purse. The bully scrambled away after his friends.
“Look at that!” Maria pointed to a white handkerchief lying on the sidewalk near where Joey stood.
Gilberto picked it up and looked at the monogramed S. “Maybe ghosts help after all.” He smiled and reached into Joey’s bag for a candy. “Trick or treat,” he grinned. “Time for ice cream.”
Hocus Pocus Buns
~ Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. ~
1 tube of refrigerator biscuits (10 biscuits, NOT Grands)
5 regular size marshmallows
2 Tablespoons melted butter
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Line large baking sheet with a Silpat mat or cooking parchment. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together. Melt the butter. Remove biscuits from tube and, using fingers, flatten out two biscuits (not too thin, but big enough to get them around your marshmallow. Now dip a marshmallow in the melted butter and roll it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place coated marshmallow on the center of one of the flattened biscuits, and mold the biscuit around the marshmallow. Using the second biscuit, wrap the biscuit around the open end. Essentially you want to completely enclose your marshmallow in the biscuits. No marshmallow showing, and no openings in the biscuit layer. Because you’re using two biscuits to one marshmallow, you’ll have plenty of dough to work with.
Place buns on lined baking sheet, at least two inches apart. Bake for 11 minutes in preheated oven. Remove from oven and allow to cool a bit before transferring to a cooling rack. You may want to brush them with a little more butter and sprinkle a little sugar on top (as pictured.)
When ready to serve, cut them in half to reveal the space where the marshmallow disappeared! This is a great recipe to make with kids.
Note: These can easily be made Vegan. Make sure you purchase refrigerated biscuits that don’t contain dairy, and use vegan butter and marshmallows. (we love Dandies.)
How To Cook A Safe Thanksgiving Dinner For Your Cat!
The highlight of every Thanksgiving, of course, is the dinner. But if you choose to celebrate the day with your felines can you cook a safe Thanksgiving dinner for your cat?
Keeping in mind that certain of your favorite foods are toxic for cats and others are just not that healthy for Kitty, it is definitely possible to prepare a feast you will both love. It is unlikely to cause tummy distress if your furbaby is used to variety in his diet. If you tend to stick to one brand then I would exercise more caution.
Is Turkey Safe for Cats?
Turkey is often a favorite of cats. It is not only safe but a healthy treat. With a few modifications, you can prepare a delicious Thanksgiving dinner you can both enjoy. Skip the brine, extra salt is not good for Kitty. Anything in the onion family is a no-go too. Most herbs are fine for Kitty but you don’t want to overload their diet with sage, thyme, and rosemary.
That doesn’t mean you have to eat a plain, turkey though. Taking the skin off the bird before giving Kitty his share should keep both of you happy. She’ll enjoy the organs too.
Serving goose or duck? Both are also safe for cats as long as they aren’t dressed or stuffed, without excess fat, onions or garlic, or highly seasoned.
How to cook giblets for cats
You can roast the giblets with your bird, simmer them, or let her try them raw. Debone the neck if you cook the giblets. Cooked turkey bones are dangerous for your kitty
Cooked turkey in a roaster
Turkey is the star of a safe Thanksgiving dinner for cats.
What About Sides?
Cats are obligate carnivores and don’t need fruits and vegetables in their diet. But a bit of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and squash are all fine for Kitty to eat in small bits as long as you put aside his share before you add all the butter and cream.
Cranberries are safe for Kitty if they aren’t cooked with artificial sweeteners or a lot of sugar. Don’t offer grapes or raisins though, they are toxic to you furbaby.
Plain cooked peas, carrots, green beans, and broccoli are okay too if Kitty likes them. But skip candied glazed carrots or green bean casserole. Kitty doesn’t need the extra sugar or salt.
Kitty doesn’t need the extra fat or most of the seasoning in your gravy but he won’t mind going without it. You can provide him a tasty substitute with something like Tiki Cat Broths or a tasty food topper like Friskies L’il Soups.
Cats are generally lactose intolerant. If your cat can tolerate it, you can share a tiny amount of your whipped cream or vanilla ice cream but skip the pie and chocolate. Non-alcoholic eggnog is safe for cats that don’t get digestive distress from dairy products too.
Or you can make Kitty a special seasonal drink. Blend plain pumpkin puree and non-fat yogurt in a 1:1 ratio. Let Kitty have a serving and freeze the rest for Christmas.
Keep the total package of fat, dairy and sugars in mind when planning a Thanksgiving dinner for your cat. Felines aren’t as susceptible to bloat or fat-induced pancreatitis as their canine counterparts. But you don’t want a special event to end up giving Kitty a bellyache or leaving you a mess in the litterbox to deal with.
Georgia’s Weekly Horoscope
Sunday, November 01, 2020
On Nov. 3, the day of the US election, Mercury retrograde will end becoming what astrologers call “stationary direct.” This means it hovers in the same degree for two days before moving forward again. (Note: in reality a planet never slows down or goes backwards, this is an illusion relative to planet Earth.) The last time that Mercury stationed direct on a US presidential election was in 2000, when Al Gore won the popular vote but George W. Bush took office. Fortunately, Mercury will be in the sign of Libra, which promotes balanced fair play. Nevertheless, expect delays and confusion perhaps due to uncounted mail-in ballots and demands for recounts? (Personally, I wonder if it’s time we got rid of democracy? All in favour raise your hand.)
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Your ruler Mars has been retrograde in your sign since Sept. causing confusion, indecision and self-doubt. Fear not however, because it will go “direct” on Friday the 13th. (Would I make this up?) After that, things will improve! And when Mars catches up to where it was when it first went retrograde (28 degrees) at the end of Dec., your life will improve even more! After that, you will move forward with strong energy. Meanwhile, this week, Mercury retrograde will end, sitting directly opposite your sign, which will make conversations with partners and close friends eventful. Expect meaty discussions, probably about shared property and inheritances. Fortunately, Venus will keep things friendly.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Mercury retrograde has attracted ex-partners and old friends back into your world; plus, it has created delays and goofy errors in your work, your job and possibly with something that is health-related or related to a pet. This part has been a drag. But hey, you’ll be happy to know that this is over as of this week. Yay! Almost immediately, you will see these delays and goofy errors reduce back to a normal level. Meanwhile, you will still need more sleep. (You cannot ignore this.) Venus will promote your relations with work colleagues. It will also nicely boost your health, although it will increase temptations to fattening, sweet foods. Avoid thirds on desert.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
This continues to be a productive time for you because you’re determined to be more efficient than usual, which is why you are putting a lot of effort to get better organized in your world, especially your job. Many of you will have to work on behalf of others more than usual – to perform a service of some sort. (It’s a joy to labour for those you love.) When Mercury stops being retrograde this week, this will encourage you to go forward with creative ideas, especially working with kids and activities related to sports and the arts! New romance might flourish for some of you because it’s easy to get along with loved ones now. (There’s no need to pretend to be what you are not.)
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
This is a lighthearted, fun-loving time! Relationships are lighter, especially with children. Basically, you want to do what you want to do and set your own priorities. It’s a good time to be yourself and also to be conscious of who you are. Family discussions and home repairs, as well as chances to redecorate or make where you live more attractive are also on the menu. Marriages and partnerships have truly been tested this year, and those that have outlived their usefulness have ended. Having said that, you are a sign that is loath to let go of anything (including people), which means you often stay in the wrong relationship too long. (You know who you are.)
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Home and family continue to be your priority; and many of you will be involved with a parent more than usual. Mercury retrograde has created delays and goofy errors in your daily schedule, which means you’ll be happy to know that Mercury retrograde ends this week. (Note: Its shadow continues until Nov. 10. If you are making a big purchase like a car or computer, wait until after that date.) This means silly errors will reduce and that’s a relief! (Less frustration.) Because Venus has now moved into your House of Communications, you will see how much love there is in your daily life. In addition, you will also be grateful for the beauty of your daily surroundings more than usual. Sweet!
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Your fast pace continues with appointments, time with siblings and relatives, short trips plus increased reading, writing and studying. You are keen to communicate to others because you want to enlighten them about something. Financial matters look solid. You might attract money or financial advantages to you. Mercury retrograde will end in your House of Earnings, which might cause you to focus on something related to your assets. Many of you had had challenges wrapping up issues related to shared property and inheritances. This delay will cease in a few weeks. This is a good week to tell someone how you feel about something.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
You will be philosophical this week because not only are you focused on your assets – you’re also thinking your values. What really matters in life? It’s good to know what really matters because this is how you distinguish how to make wise decisions. Obviously, you do not want to be looking in the mirror in later life with regrets. Because your ruler fair Venus is in your sign this week, you will have a stronger desire to relate to others. Venus will also help you to make peace and have fun schmoozing because Venus always ranks pleasure above work. Be patient with partners and close friends while Mars stays opposite your sign. (The last time it was retrograde opposite you was 1988.)
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
The Sun in your sign marks the beginning of your personal new year, which means it’s a good time to define goals for what you want for yourself. Goals keep you on track and give you a sense of purpose. Meanwhile, a private love affair might happen for some. (Not surprising because you are a passionate, secretive sign.) Many of you have been confused or questioning issues about your job or the work that you do, and this is because Mars has been retrograde since Sept. This has “hung you up!” It’s important to know that when Mars is no longer retrograde in mid Nov., you will feel more proactive about your job, and when Mars is finally clear of its retrograde shadow – at the end of December – you will be all systems go! Yeah!
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
The Sun is still hiding in your chart this week, which means similarly, you will feel comfortable taking a backseat or working alone or behind the scenes. (Not always your first choice.) This continues to be an excellent window of time for you to define some goals about what you want for your new year ahead (birthday to birthday). An important conversation with a friend or a member of a group might take place this week because Mercury retrograde turns direct in your House of Friendships. Fortunately, Venus will ameliorate any intense discussions. In fact, Venus will also encourage interactions with creative, artistic people. Cool!
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Have you noticed that you often choose to socialize in a way that is supportive to society? You join committees or start raffles and initiate worthwhile events? This week, you will be involved with groups and perhaps a friend. Since, your interactions with others will be mutually beneficial, by all means, be friendly! Fair Venus is now at the top of your chart, which is useful. It creates favourable circumstances in your business life and makes people in authority look kindly on you. Regardless of what you do for a living, others will ask for your advice about artistic matters like design, layout, office redecorating or PR. You might also develop a crush on your boss.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Once again, this week, the Sun is still at the top of your chart, casting you in a flattering spotlight that makes you look good to bosses, parents and VIPs. Obviously, this is your time to act and to do what you can to promote your own agenda. Some of you will have an important interaction with a parent. Note: Don’t pretend you are something that you are not because you will be exposed. (That symbolic spotlight.) Travel for pleasure, especially a chance to return someplace you really liked before will resonate strongly within you this week. Maybe you can make plans for the future?
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
More than other signs, you sometimes “escape” from things you don’t like, even if it’s just daydreams and fantasies. This week, you want to escape by “getting away from all this.” This is why you will enjoy any chance to travel and have a change of scenery, even if you do this through books and film. This is a fortunate week for you because gifts, goodies and favours from others can come your way. Personally, your love life will be passionate and affectionate. Contact with a previous lover could be significant. For those of you who are suffering delays with earnings and finances – be assured that by the end of the year, these obstacles are gone. Great!
Weekly Horoscopes beginning Sunday, 01 November 2020
If you`re born within cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you`re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You`re in the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.
Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible detail of everyday and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don`t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.
Personal theme: I am!!
Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19
Your horoscope for this week:
Things won`t necessarily go according to plan. However, as you`ll swiftly discover, what`s least expected could be best in the long run. Every unexpected event offers an opportunity to discover something worthwhile or encounter somebody interesting enough to broaden your horizons. Yes, that means delays in what you had in mind. Take things one day at a time. Soon it will all make sense.
Your partner will be making some lively plans for the end of the year. After discussing these thoroughly, you will be happy to let them call the tune. Planning for the future will make a relationship stronger, better and happier. Playing games that involve other people will give you the mental stimulation you crave. If your local pub, club or society has been hosting an online trivia contest, you should enter. You could win a handsome prize.
Think long and hard. It`s highly likely you will be asked to make an important decision by Tuesday and that the repercussions will be great. Saturn will soon leave the apex of your solar chart but before it does you likely need to give careful thought to the amount of responsibility and weight you are carrying. Security issues will almost certainly surface. With an opposition between Venus and your ruling Mars scheduled for Monday (9th), you could also find increased tension in even the closest of partnerships. All in all, this might prove a week of high drama when the stakes seem to get ever higher. On the positive side, it`s unlikely you`ll be suffering alone and that even if others don`t agree with you, they will at least understand what you`re going through.
Personal theme: I have!!
Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20
Your horoscope for this week:
Because the shake-ups triggered by the Taurus Full Moon, on Saturday 31 October, will appear in a range of forms, initially, you`re urged to wait, watch and learn from them. True, some will seem pressing. However, the facts that surface during the week will alter both your perspective and raise questions about your priorities. Decisions? If you can`t put them off, regard them as an experiment.
Be wary of people who promise more than they can deliver. Don`t divulge too much personal information if you`re in a new relationship. If you`ve been with your partner for some time, you will sense when the moment is right to ask an all-important question. You could do with a little more freedom. It would be much better for you if an older relative would ease their demands on you and understand your need to pursue outside interests.
Routines are likely to be upended as Mercury arrives at its station on Tuesday. You may need breathing space to recover and recharge. Yet the cosmos might demand that you look carefully at small print and consider legal argument. It may be that errors or misunderstandings have taken place in recent weeks and that there is now regret and soul-searching necessary before you can move on. Taking time out to review what you`ve learnt and how you can use recent experiences to your long-term advantage would doubtless be wise. In particular, you might benefit from a conversation with a Capricorn who understands how power can be used or misused and who gives you useful hints as to how to avoid being pushed around.
Personal theme: I think!!
Air sign: May 21 — June 20
Your horoscope for this week:
No sign is better at turning life`s twists and turns to your advantage. Currently, however, you`re unsure which changes should be regarded as welcome versus those you`d best avoid. Employ your skill as a diplomat, showing interest in what seems worthwhile but making no promises; and encourage others to do the same. Each day and discussion will add to your insights. Still, solid plans should wait.
A recent argument still plays on your mind. You feel someone is ignoring your needs and feelings. Whether it`s about love, passion or old-fashioned romancing, you should voice your thoughts. Your partner may not understand why you are annoyed with them. They have realized how important some things are to you. Keep in touch with your friends and family. Share how you feel. Quality time shared with people who matter will make life easier.
Your ruling planet Mercury, arrives at its station on Tuesday which could prove a memorable date in 2020. You may need to review decisions taken since September and yes, might not be entirely happy with the way that things have worked out. The key is not to panic even though there are likely to be yet more issues to address. True, you could feel disheartened as Mercury makes right angle to Saturn. It might feel as though the cosmic headmaster is demanding homework you`ve yet to prepare. Decisions about property and where and how to live are likely to surface. Revaluations may be necessary; and yes, you might need to do all of this whilst beset by limitations. If there is good news, – and there probably is, it`s that you may not be alone in this quest and that by early next week have support from someone who can guide you through the next maze.
Personal theme: I feel!!
Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Dramatic and, often, unsettling as the feelings and events triggered by the Full Moon on Saturday the 31st may be, they`re part of a more far-reaching pattern of timely change. Knowing that, instead of calming shakeups, concentrate on exploring options and meeting people. Focus on what you can learn and who you meet. It will take you into new, often unexpected and exciting, territory.
You`re allowing a partner or friend to twist you around their little finger. Someone is taking liberties and showing you little respect. They are acting in a way that hurts you and they`re taking your forgiveness for granted. Nothing good will come out of this relationship. You need trust, understanding and loyalty to feel emotionally content. Your entire focus, later, will be on a cherished goal. You have the qualities necessary to achieve this and you won`t waste a wonderful opportunity to succeed.
Mercury stations at the very base of your solar chart this week – so anticipate a few twists and turns. Mars is still retrograde at the apex of your solar chart and if you`re involved in repairs or review, this could prove a tricky time. Yet more difficult decisions might need to be taken – most likely midweek; and yet: you perhaps now know that you`ve addressed a long-standing issue and have a clear idea now as to what can be done when restrictions are lifted. The other – and most promising news, – is that you career could soon move into new and fast lane. As plans and schedules are made, diary management is essential. There might also be the need to address and education issue and how best to help someone improve their qualifications and recover lost ground.
Personal theme: I will!!
Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Obviously, you`d rather make lasting decisions about various elements of your life, then move on. However, with the actual foundation on which they`re based shifting, and well into the month, you`re better off regarding any plans as tentative, and continuing to explore your options. While some will be clear from the moment they arise, others will be as sudden as, ultimately, they prove to be exciting.
You`re excited about the future of a relationship. Even so, if you and a partner haven`t been together for long, take your time. If a lot of your social interactions have been online wait until you`ve met in person a few times before deciding how you really feel. Take this relationship one step at a time without planning too much too quickly. You aren`t so foolish as to expect a joint project to go smoothly all the time. Still, when you do encounter bumps in the road you will find a way around these, together.
You are right, loyalty matters! So, you might still be dismayed by recent actions. Forgiving and forgetting is likely not easy. Yet this has been a turbulent year for all; and it`s not over. Decisions taken this week will have obvious and lasting repercussions. Whose side you are on might matter more than usual. Yet there is the prospect of forming a strong alliance. True, this could begin with doubts and yes, you perhaps need a formal contract put in place. All this is possible but will likely require energy you don`t feel able to access. Hold the thought that next week, Mars turns direct and that you should then feel refueled. For now, and boring as it may be, dealing with small print is essential.
Personal theme: I analyze!!
Earth sign: August 23 — September 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Recent tricky and, often, time consuming misunderstandings have been frustrating. What`s more, as a result, you`re hesitant about taking certain complex, but otherwise appealing, plans to the next stage. The trick is to proceed, but resist the temptation to finalize arrangements. Instead, ensure what you organize is flexible enough to ride out the inevitable changes. As a result, you can easily rethink arrangements when you must.
You`re trying too hard to keep other people happy. It means a lot to you to be able to help your friends and family but in doing so, you`re losing touch with your own needs. Have you been looking after your health? You run the risk of being swallowed up by work and voluntary obligations and pleasing everyone but yourself. Make it your aim to sort out your priorities. This may mean being firm and making it clear it`s time to put yourself first. If anyone resents this, they aren`t a true friend.
There`s a saying that if you `look after the pennies the pounds look after themselves`. That perhaps worked when coinage was in regular use! Now, the art is in keeping track of credit card purchases. As your ruling planet Mercury, comes to its station on Tuesday, balancing the books could be super important. You might also wonder if those who promise much, will actually deliver; and yes, by the end of this week demanding that promises are honored will likely take much time – and even result in the kind of dispute you usually aim to avoid. The viability of a project will likely also be under scrutiny. Reshape and review is probable with your particular skills and expertise coming to the attention of someone in authority who only now realizes how much you`ve oiled the wheels through this turbulent year.
Personal theme: I balance!!
Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Life would be a lot easier if you could make lasting plans. Happily, certain tricky matters are less complicated, but others remain puzzling. That`s no surprise. With the idea`s planet Mercury retrograde, and triggering the usual confusion, until Tuesday 3 November and, also, positioned in Libra, even simple plans are unlikely to proceed as anticipated. The trick? The more flexible arrangements, and your thinking, the better.
A part of your self-esteem comes through harmonious friendship, work and romantic relationships. Regardless of your professional and material success, you need to feel loved and appreciated. If you sense you aren`t measuring up to a loved one`s expectations or you can`t please them these days, this will affect your confidence. Discuss your personal goals with your family. Their support will mean a lot to you. A partner will do their best to meet you halfway.
Mercury stations on Tuesday in your sign. It could feel as though you`re undertaking a very fine balancing act. Yes, it`s true that most days are like that for Libra! This though, could be a moment to remember. You may not be entirely happy with decisions others are taking. Perhaps you realize the repercussions of decisions and potential threats to your security. You might also have reason to wonder if others will keep their word. Recall, Mars is still retrograde in your opposite sign. You may not be entirely sure what direction certain individuals intend to take and not know the outcome of that until at least midmonth. For now, everything focuses on detail. Asset management will surely have your attention as might be health related issues. In assisting someone who is not hundred percent however, you could rebalance your scales: sure, in the knowledge that you`ve done all that you can.
Scorpio & Ophiuchus
Personal theme: I desire!!
Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21
Your horoscope for this week:
Obviously, you`d rather make plans you know are reliable. However, with both circumstances and your priorities changing until the Scorpio New Moon, on 15 November, you`re better off regarding even simple arrangements as tentative. The good news, however, is that if ever there was a time to take chances and learn from experience, it`s now. Be adventurous. The more risks you take, the more you`ll learn.
Don`t be fobbed off by anyone who doesn`t take your ideas or suggestions seriously. Be sure they know how important some plans are to you. Even so, there will be times when to avoid an argument you will need to bite your tongue. A youngster in the family could do with a little guidance. With life being so hectic, it won`t be easy but try to make time for your nearest and dearest. Being able to laugh, play and even do serious things together is important for you all.
Mercury turns direct on Tuesday – just ahead of Mars reaching its station next week. These promise to be exciting, but arguably, turbulent times. It could feel as though your world is turned on its head. You may not know the outcome of decisions taken until nearly the end of the month. The importance of documentation cannot be stressed enough. It will likely be necessary for you to review old wording and even, by the end of the week, seek legal advice or other expertise. After much confusion however, a plan could emerge. You wouldn`t turn a ship around at speed and risk capsize. Taking your would be wise. Note too, that those born under the Air signs of Gemini, Libra or Aquarius may be floating ideas but lack the energy or teams structures to see these through.
Personal theme: I see!!
Fire sign: November 22 — December 21
Your horoscope for this week:
Usually you`re the first to spot, and act on, intriguing new ideas or offers. Yet now you`re either lacking vital information or are uncharacteristically unsure of your own mind. Actually, you`re better off waiting to see what the rare, if not life-changing, link between your ruler Jupiter and the powerful Pluto, on the 12th, brings your way. After that, things could look very different indeed.
You might be feeling a little lonely. You`ve lost touch with friends you used to see regularly and your social world has changed dramatically. It will feel like there`s a dark cloud hovering over your life. Don`t let this lead you to any port of storm for company. Think about joining a volunteer or political organization. A change is as good as a rest and you could do with a change of scenery. Visiting a place that has links with your childhood will be sweetly emotional.
Truth matters. Around Tuesday`s Mercury station you might wonder if you`re the only one thinking this way. Aware that facts are either muddled or have been deliberately misconstrued, you might prefer not to take a stance: rather than choose between two (ill-informed?) or poorly presented perspectives. Yet not getting involved could be just as painful! It would be understandable if you went back to old documents or even old legal arguments before determining a course of action. Hold the thought that next week, Mars turns direct in the `legal` area of your solar chart. It`s then, and presumably after having gathered many thoughts and ideas together, you can plan the next stage. This might prove one of the milestones in your life. Yes, truth matters and so does your integrity and accumulated wisdom. What seems clear is that before you sign on any dotted line, and whatever your age, you will be acutely aware of the responsibilities commitment brings.
Personal theme: I use!!
Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19
Your horoscope for this week:
Ordinarily, you`re superb at spotting and untangling the source of delays, in anything from plans to personal passions. Yet even you are struggling with the range of confusing situations and unreliable information you`re being told. Making tentative plans may be out of character, but it allows you to at least move ahead a little, yet rethink things as you proceed. Final arrangements? You`ll have to be patient.
Someone is being secretive. You sense they aren`t being totally truthful. You feel disappointed that those you thought you could trust have been spreading malicious gossip.. Trust your intuition. Be careful about how much personal information is revealed in a group discussion. You should be able to benefit from a scheme that has been put into place affecting your workplace. Something you do on a daily basis is made easier from approaching it in a different way.
Mercury stations at the apex of your solar chart. Not only are you likely to arrive at a conclusion regarding a career matter, you might also need to make a tough decision about who you`re happy to work with and the level of responsibility you`re prepared to carry. If you are already in a position of authority, you might also give careful thought as to whether a co-worker has the necessary skills and maturity to continue in their role. Before Mars stations midmonth, (an event that comes just ahead of the New Moon), it seems a major clearing up operation will be necessary. Amidst all this, a powerful new alliance could be formed. Also, you may be drawn into the confidence of a Libra who now needs your expertise as they negotiate a deal that would be of benefit to you both.
Personal theme: I know!!
Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18
Your horoscope for this week:
Those around you are enthusiastically discussing new ideas and, in a number of cases, potential changes. While you understand their appeal for others, you`re seeking something more exciting and, ideally, far-reaching. You`ll get it, but not until mid-December, when expansive Jupiter and Saturn stage a rare and powerful meeting in Aquarius. Until, then? Focus on decluttering your life, and mind. You`ll be glad you did.
You`re struggling with a decision to do with your home. If you`re looking for a plumber or electrician, ask for recommendations on a social networking site. One name will be mentioned repeatedly and this is the person you should hire. The chance to add to your qualifications will arise unexpectedly. You aren`t sure you are up to taking a long-term course of study. Ask a trusted friend what they think of the idea and how they would go about it.
Mercury arrives at its direct station early this week. You could think of that as a car that has just done a three-point turn in the hope of avoiding a traffic jam. Unfortunately, going back on the same route is unlikely to work. Dead ends everywhere. Fact is, that misunderstandings need to be resolved before anyone can move forward. That might not happen until mid or even the end of November. So, you could feel stuck between a rock and a hard place for much of this week. On the positive side however, you should now see exactly who is in charge and who has real expertise. Those who shout the loudest may not be the ones with greatest impact. Yes, like many, you could feel forced to take sides. It`s unlikely that you will do this quickly: instead probing, asking searching questions and making clear that before you make any commitment, you need to know exactly what you`re getting yourself into.
Personal theme: I believe!!
Water sign: February 19 — March 20
Your horoscope for this week:
For ages, you`ve sensed the potential not only for the inspiring activities you`ve been seeking, but also something that would allow you to break away from at least some of life`s more tedious obligations. While those duties won`t vanish, you`re likely to link up with people or pursuits that will more than fulfil those idealistic needs. Still, be patient. It will take time.
Difficulties and problems in the workplace need to be addressed. There is a balance of risk as you approach new plans and ideas. You are working with people on a number of issues in the hope of minimizing damage. A boss who is willing to get to grips with big issues will help change anger into acceptance. Find the confidence to say what you think and this will help avoid misunderstandings. Keeping thoughts to yourself isn`t really giving any relationship a proper chance.
It`s unlikely that Mercury`s station on Tuesday will pass unnoticed. In recent weeks that planet has been retrograde. It`s absolutely not the case that retrogrades are always bad things. Yet it does seem that around the time of the stations there is much confusion. That`s likely particularly true this week. You may remember that Mars too is retrograde. Your cash flow situation could be particularly muddled. There`s also the high probability that the terms of an agreement will need to be reviewed. Schedules will likely need to be rearranged. Much though can be achieved before the end of the year and though you could feel overwhelmed midweek, and fervently hoping that someone will arrive to take charge, there is much that you could do yourself. It`s often the case that when the going gets tough Pisces behaves as though it`s the ultimate Virgo. Don`t underestimate your ability to organize and show efficiency. In fact, you could sway someone`s opinion completely before the weekend by streamlining, showing excellent data management, and producing all the right papers and in all the right order – and on time.
