Remember my dear humans, fresh air, sunshine and communing with Mother Nature is the best medicine. It is good for our immune system, lifts the spirits and breaks up the monotony of “social distancing!”
Blessed be my little witch. To those who came before and those who will come after, know that the Goddess is with you always. Thank you all my dear readers…be blessed. ~GrannyMoon

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Biddy Tarot Card of the Week
by Brigit | Biddy Tarot
The card drawn for this week is the Death Reversed.
This week brings you the opportunity to embrace change, rather than resist it. Say yes to change and see what wonderful opportunities present themselves to you.
You may also be experiencing personal transformation on a deep level. Allow yourself to release what no longer serves you and make space for the new to emerge in your life.
The reversed Death card also invites us to return to the lesson of the Hanged Man – a card of pause, suspension and putting things on hold. Even though we are experiencing heightened levels of uncertainty and destabilization as more and more events are cancelled and restrictions put in place, we are being asked to see things from a new perspective and to find the opportunity in the pause.
Ask the Tarot: What do I need to let go of or release at this time?
Witchcraft For Coping With COVID-19: Banish, Protect And Heal
March 15, 2020 by Cyndi Brannen
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus is a global crisis that’s significantly impacting all of our lives. As witches, we know that there is no separation from the material and spirit worlds. Our work for banishing, protection and healing involves both the mainstream practices, like social distancing and hand washing, and the deeper work of our witchcraft.
I’ve embedded links throughout this article to help you cope and stay focused on strengthening your mind, body and soul. Included are links especially relevant to those engaged with my courses and books. I’ve also included the components of our Keeping Her Keys COVID-19 altar comprised of releasing, protecting and blessing.
The practices and energy shared within this article are not substitutes for medical care. If you are suffering symptoms of the virus or may have been exposed, I urge you to seek the appropriate services.
Our Energy And Energy Intake
Perhaps as witches our greatest challenge is to manage our own stress and the energy intake that we absorb from others, not just during this outbreak, but overall in life. We are incredible powerhouses of our own energy, and we often “collect” other’s energy as well. This is awesome, except when it gets to be overwhelming and exhausting.
Our efforts to stay safe and sane during this pandemic will naturally include the recommended preventative practices and, if necessary, the required treatments, that the mainstream health care system is prescribing.
We can deepen our prevention and healing practices through our witchcraft, working our magick to protect and ensure health, taking the medicine of our plant and stone allies, and leaning into the mystery of this time. There is much to feel, do and learn from this outbreak.
It Is Right To Be Fearful: It Is Our Right To Release The Fear
This crisis is frightening. That needed to be said. In a world where our emotions are often minimized, taking some time to honor the fearful emotions evoked is important.
If you’ve performed the Agape Phoberos Ritual, you’ll have tapped into the power of fear. In this ritual, you’ll also experience the way that agape – pure love – soothes our fears. Learning the power of our emotions, and how we can correct them through restorative words evocative of love, through this ceremony is an excellent ritual for anytime, but particularly now while we are so in fear, the corrective power of the love energies is potent. If you are feeling afraid, only doing the love ceremony will help immensely. You can find the Agape Phoberos Ritual here. https://keepingherkeys.com/read/f/the-agape-phoberos-ritual
Correcting an excess of fear is vital to managing any crisis. We can’t think, let alone connect to our deeper selves, when we are in a terror spiral. Honor your fears, then release them. They are not bad, but they must not remain in control.
Banish: Ritual For Releasing Fears
Cast your fears into this black bowl filled with sea salt for cleansing, layered with soapwort and juniper, plus a hunk of salt for added purification. One of the biggest challenges of this pandemic for us witches is that we can become incredibly stressed. This is for a multitude of reasons. We are, of course, concerned for our safety and health, as well as our beloveds.
In addition, because we are empaths, we can acquire the fears of others. We can also be attuned to the societal zeitgeist, the spirit of the times, which could make us quite terrified. Finally, many of us have lived through horrific events, rendering us even more sensitive to crises like this. There is nothing inherently wrong with any of these experiences. We are blessed to be able to feel it all, when so many humans feel nothing. We need not be bound by these fears. Writing or speaking your fears and concerns into the light of the screen or your notebook can burn away their power. We are so much more than these concerns of ours. Right as they may be, they do not control us.
Release your fears into this vessel, envisioning them being absorbed into the waiting plant spirits and salt. If you are able, offer this releasing energy to banish the virus from yourself, your beloveds, community and the planet. See the powers of the plant spirits in this bowl absorbing it all.
Release your fears so you can clearly cope with the situation.
Absorbing The Energy Of Others
We need to stay informed about the pandemic as it evolves, both on the large scale and in our own lives. From shortages at the supermarket to cancelled travel plans, there are many minor hassles associated with it. Then there are the larger issues, like if the virus is impacting our work, education or social lives. We may have beloveds who have to change their behaviors to minimize risk. It is a moment in time that we need to be well informed yet not succumb to panic. This is a lot to manage.
In particular, being witches we are often sensitive to the general energy currents of society, as well as to those of individuals and organizations with whom we associate. Again, this is a lot to manage. This is where energetic shielding can really help.
Enforce Your Boundaries
Moreover, our energetic boundaries are incredibly crucial to our successful navigation of any crisis. We are dealing with our own hassles and fears, perhaps even a real risk of having been exposed. Plus, we are often compelled to be the caregivers of those around us who are also dealing with all of this. This is a direct challenge to our boundaries. We must be careful to not be so supportive that we drain ourselves dry.
Amplified Sensitivity Due To Previous Trauma
Additionally, we witches are often survivors of all manner of trauma. Not only does this result in poor boundaries, but also in us being hyper-responsive to threatening stimuli. Certainly this crisis counts as that. This is because our physiological fear system is always searching for any threats. Because of what was done to us in the past, in the present we can be forced into a huge reaction when we cognitively know that the threat to our safety is actually quite low.
Talking to those who are obsessing over the crisis and endlessly engaging in the news about the virus will be very triggering to a witch who has a hard-wired trauma response. Limiting our exposure to such things is a necessity. That is a boundary we must enforce, lest we be pummeled into a deep spiral of distress.
Protect: Candle For Preventing Harm
The sacred fire of protection is freely offered from this candle. Draw the energy from this candle all around you to boost your awareness of the risks and to enhance your immunity. Envision the flame surrounding you, your beloveds, community and the world, if you are able. I’ve anointed this candle with a blend of agrimony, black cohosh, dandelion root, eucalyptus, slipper elm and yarrow. All are protective in general, and specifically for calming thoughts and protecting the respiratory system.
Create your own COVID-19 Protection Candle by anointing one with protective plant medicine. The botanicals used are also part of a family recipe for a respiratory ailment fighting infusion. It is resting on top of pink quartz.
Dissolving The Stress Spiral
If you find yourself in a spiral, which is practically to be expected given everything that is going on, I’ve included some ways to use our breath to loosen the spiral gently, creating space within it to break its stranglehold on us.
The Animarum Nyssa, known as the Unifying The Three Selves Meditation and The Sacred Seven can be listened to further down in this article. You can also do the Hekate’s Breath Chanting which will quickly dissolve that spiral, it’s linked below.
Quick fix: draw your breath in slowly in a controlled manner until your belly is full. When it is as full as possible, hold your breath right there. While holding your breath, recite in your mind, “I am safe. I am healthy. I am whole.” Exhale in a slow and controlled manner. Do this at least three times or until you feel better. There are days I do this for 30 minutes.
Breathe, witches. It really is all about the breath. Through our breath we release, protect and bless.
Bless: Healing Through Sacred Smoke
The sacred smoke offered consists of bay, lavender and yarrow surrounded by pink quartz. Take what you need to restore your own state of wellness; the abundance of bay, the calm clarity of lavender, and the well-being wonder that is yarrow. If you are able, draw the smoke deep into you, then extend it to your beloveds, community and the planet. If you can, add your own healing energies into this smoke, strengthening this offering, directing it to those in need after you have received your fill.
Llewellyn’s Spell a Day
Dry Floor Wash Cleansing
March 22, 2020 by Laura Tempest Zakroff
Have a room that needs a bit of an energy cleansing? Mix up this dry floor wash and grab your broom!
Gather these ingredients:
* 3 tablespoons sea salt
* ½ cup each of dried rosemary, vervain, and sage
* A jar
Mix the ingredients together in the jar, then sprinkle it on the floor of the room in a counterclockwise motion. Start in the north and sprinkle just enough to make it around the room in a spiral three times. Allow the mixture to sit for fifteen minutes.
Next, take up your broom and, continuing in the same direction, sweep up the mixture, for as long as it takes. Once you’re satisfied that you have swept it all up, sweep the room one more time, this time in a clockwise direction.
If possible, dispose of your sweepings in a small fire.
Plant Your Garden
March 21, 2020 by Barbara Ardinger
In his novel Candide, or Optimism, the French author Voltaire sends his hero through all kinds of disasters. Candide’s teacher, Dr. Pangloss, keeps telling him it’s all for the best in this best of all possible worlds. That wasn’t true in 1756, when the novel was published, nor is it true today. What can we do to help make this struggling planet a better world for all men and women? What Candide eventually learns is that “when man was first placed in the Garden of Eden, he was put there … that he might cultivate it.” What can we cultivate?
Gather with your circle or community and plant a garden of flowers and veggies. Then plant a metaphorical garden that will bloom with friendship, good works, and realistic optimism. Join hands and declare this blessing:
We’re here to plant our garden,
Helping flowers grow,
Only friendship can bestow.
So mote it be!
Mercury Spell for Safe Travels
March 20, 2020 by Charlynn Walls
Traveling is part of life. Some of us commute to work each day. Sometimes the travel is longer for business, and at other times we travel for pleasure. No matter why you or a loved one are traveling, you can do this quick spell for safe travels.
Mercury, a Roman deity who aided travelers, can speed travel and provide safe passage. Take a piece of paper and cut out a small wing or draw one if you do not have ready access to scissors. Write down where you will be traveling from and where you will be traveling to. Call to Mercury, saying:
From here to there and back,
please ensure a safe journey.
Now place this item in your travel bag before the start of the trip.
Equinox New Beginnings Spell
March 19, 2020 by Devin Hunter
Blessed equinox, witches! Cast this spell before midnight and use the energy of the day to bring blessings to a new beginning.
You will need:
* A crayon
* 1 fresh egg
* Flower seeds of any kind
With a crayon, draw an image on the egg that symbolizes the new beginning you seek, such as a picture of a house for a new home, a heart for new love, etc. Dig a hole a few inches into the ground and hold the flower seeds in both hands. Gently blow over them to empower them and say:
A new beginning from growing
seeds, bringing balance, focus,
change, and disciplined deeds!
Then place the seeds in the hole. Crack the egg over the seeds, put the shells in the hole, then cover with soil as you say:
So must this be, for the good
of all, but mostly for me!
As spring emerges and your flowers bloom, so too will your fresh start.
March 18, 2020 by Kate Freuler
Did you know that a great way to help your indoor potted plants grow is by adding crushed eggshells to the soil? Just rinse the shells thoroughly, run them through a blender, and then sprinkle them into the dirt. You can turn this into a magickal process simply by adding a little food coloring and visualization to the blender as well. Put a drop of the following colors in your eggshell fertilizer to grow some magick along with your plants:
*Pink: Love and friendship
Visualize your goal as you sprinkle the shells into your plants. As your greenery grows, your wishes will manifest. (Don’t do this more than once a year or it may upset the pH balance of the soil.)
Snakes of Transformation Spell
March 17, 2020 by Cerridwen Iris Shea
Rather than celebrate Saint Patrick today, let’s celebrate snakes. Snakes are symbols of transformation. Medusa, the snake-haired goddess who could turn men to stone with a glance, aids dramatic change. The ribbons in this spell symbolize snakes. As they twist in the wind, they represent the intellect and the element of air— new ideas to manifest change.
Gather these supplies:
* Ribbons in colors corresponding to your desired changes
* A marker in a color that contrasts with the ribbons
* A place to hang the ribbons where air will move them
(a curtain rod, tree branch, etc.)
Using the marker, write one desired
change on each ribbon. Tie the ribbons
to the curtain rod or tree branch
(or whatever you choose to use). Say:
Medusa, please aid me in being
the transformation I see in my life,
taking action rather than going along to get along.
Let the snakes
of transformation twist in the
winds of change. So mote it be.
As each change initiates, remove the ribbon and continue the work.
Banishing Lack Spell
March 16, 2020 by Thuri Calafia
For this spell, you’ll need a black candle in a holder, burnable copies of your bills, and a heatproof container in which to burn them, such as a small cauldron or a plant pot plate painted black.
Find a safe place to do this sacred burning, then cast a circle around you and invite your chosen guardians and gods in your usual way. Take a moment to let your imagination wander to all the worst-case scenarios that have been playing in your head lately. Then take a small blade or wooden pick and inscribe the candle with symbols and words representing those fears. Let the energy build by reviewing the bills you feel especially fearful about, then say:
As the moon wanes, so let poverty
and lack wane. Blessed Lord and
Lady, take these burdens from me.
Take the bills, one at a time, and as you say these words, light each bill in turn in the candle flame, then quickly place them into the container you brought and watch them burn. As each bill burns, visualize it getting paid in full and on time. After all the bills have burned, take some time and gaze at the candle flame and allow yourself to relax and open to the peace of debt relief.
Be sure to follow up with energies conducive to getting your bills paid, such as taking the offer of working overtime or reining in your spending. You might also choose to buy a lottery ticket!
Heartwings Love Notes 923: A New Reality
Heartwings says, “Coping with a new reality is not easy.”
I keep thinking, or maybe even hoping that one morning I will wake up and what is happening now will prove to be a bad dream, and everything will be normal again. Something tells me that that hope is in vain, and that what is happening at this present time is all too real. I know Stephen and I are safe for now, as many are, and we have sufficient supplies to see us for some time to come. We are also fortunate in having friends who are younger and willing to help us out with grocery trips and supplies when we need them. We feel blessed in this and very grateful.
None of us have lived through anything like this before. We’re in uncharted territory. Nor can we be sure what will come next. In the days of the bubonic plague little was known about good hygiene. We know enough to wash our hands and stay at a distance from one another. In those same days. chamber pots were dumped from windows into the street, often splashing passersby. As to hand washing? in the time of the plague there was no such thing as plumbing in Europe, though Rome had had it in the past.
There is not as much traffic passing our windows to the street as we are used to seeing. The mail still comes, for which I am grateful. This is a good time to attend to all the tasks that have been neglected in favor of errands and appointments. The self-quarantine Stephen and I are practicing provides a fine opportunity to go through piles, clean, and hopefully even eliminate what needs clearing out. Although I am someone who normally enjoys doing this, I find it difficult to begin these neglected tasks because I’m still getting used to the way things are today. Perhaps part of me is still living in the old reality. It’s not easy to let it go. I guess I keep hoping I won’t have to.
Will we go back entirely to the way things were? I have a feeling we won’t. I believe the majority if not all the people living today are headed for a much needed change in consciousness. What was once a priority may become less so, and new priorities will arise. Much that we have taken for granted is, in this new reality gone for us now. It is my belief that eventually much will return, and also much will change. A long time ago a wise woman told me never to take anything for granted. That has proved to be good advice for me to follow. I have been grateful for much in the old reality, and I plan to be grateful in the new one as it evolves.
May you discover blessings in the new reality to make up for any you have lost in the change from the old one.
Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert.

Why anger is a rock in your shoe.
When you are angry with someone, the irritation is like a stone in your shoe.
You can grit your teeth and continue walking, or you can remove the rock.
Of course, it is better to remove the rock! But then you also have to remove your pride.
When you are irritated with someone, decide which will cause you more pain—staying angry, or throwing your pride away.
There is no problem in not having your way.
Becoming Our Own Role Models
by Madisyn Taylor
There was a time where women stood together in a bond of sisterhood, women supporting women.
As women embrace the fullness of who they are as individuals, they may find themselves supporting other women, helping others to reach the level of inner comfort and outer freedom that they themselves have found. Among those who are less sure of themselves and their place in the world, it may be more common to criticize other women than to seek their help. But there are things that a woman can only learn from another woman, as there are things about being a man that can only be learned from other men. We all recognize that we have much to learn from each other regardless of gender, but sometimes we could use a supportive role model that gives us a more precise example of what and who we can become.
There was a time where women stood together in a bond of sisterhood, women supporting women. It is only natural that the pendulum swings out of balance for a while so that we may have the experience of what we do not want. It is up to women to bring the pendulum back into balance and bring back the sacred sisterhood we yearn for at our core.
If we envision a world where women support each other and help each other find their place in an ever-changing world, then we can become the change we want to see. Jealousy, envy, criticism, and judgment are refuges for the insecure. As we help others to become self-assured, we create a world in which all people help each other, regardless of gender. Only women can make the change in how women are seen and understood, not just by other women but by the world at large. The way we speak about each other to other women and to the men in our lives informs everyone to treat us with the respect that all women, and all people, deserve.
Health Benefits of Willow Bark
Is the all-natural pain reliever better than aspirin?
By Cathy Wong
Willow bark comes from the willow tree of the Salix species. The bark contains salicin, a compound similar to aspirin. Salicin is metabolized in the body to create salicylic acid, a precursor to aspirin.
The herbal extract has long been used in native and folk medicine to relieve pain, inflammation, and fever. In the late 1800s, chemists discovered a way to make a synthetic version of salicylic acid, called acetylsalicylic acid, which we today know as aspirin.
Sold as a dietary supplement, herbal tea, or topical ointment, willow bark is known as liu shu pi in traditional Chinese medicine and vetasa in Ayurvedic medicine.
Willow bark’s analgesic (pain-relieving) and antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties have been touted since as far back as 4th-century Greece when users would chew on the bark for rapid pain relief.
The growing popularity of natural medicines has fueled a renewed interest in willow bark. It is considered by some to be a reasonable alternative to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin, Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve (naproxen).
Salicin, when converted to salicylic acid, inhibits the activity of cyclo-oxygenase 1 (COX-1) and cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2). These are the same enzymes targeted by NSAIDs to alleviate pain and inflammation.
Alternative practitioners contend that willow bark can safely treat a host of pain disorders, including headache, low back pain, knee pain, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. There are even some who say that it can aid in weight loss.
As is the case with other herbal supplements, the evidence supporting the use of willow bark is often mixed or contradictory. Here is just some of the current research says:
Studies investigating the effects of willow bark in people with osteoarthritis (“wear-and-tear arthritis”) has yielded mixed results.
In a clinical trial published in Phytotherapy Research, a willow bark extract containing 240 milligrams (mg) of salicin daily was compared to a placebo in 78 people with osteoarthritis.
After two weeks of treatment, pain scores (using the WOMAC osteoarthritis index) were reduced by 14 percent in the willow bark group compared to 2 percent in the placebo group.
The same was not seen in a six-week study published in the Journal of Rheumatology.4? For this trial, 127 people with knee osteoarthritis were given either 240 mg of salicin, 100 mg of the pain medication Voltaren (diclofenac), or a placebo.
After six weeks of use, Voltaren was found to be more effective in alleviating osteoarthritis pain, reducing pain scores by 47 percent compared to willow bark’s 18 percent.
The second arm of the study revealed that willow bark was no more effective in alleviating pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis (a form of autoimmune arthritis) than a placebo.
The current body of evidence suggests that willow bark may be most effective in treating acute low back pain.
In a 2016 analysis published in the journal Spine, researchers evaluated 14 previously published studies on herbal treatments for low back pain.5? Among their findings, the researchers reported that the bark of the white willow tree (Salix alba) consistently provided greater pain relief than a placebo.
With that being said, the quality of the reviewed studies was considered poor to moderate. Further research would be needed to determine how safe and effective willow bark may be in relieving low back pain.
Willow bark has been aggressively marketed in recent years as a weight loss supplement.6? The health claims were fueled by early research in which the combined use of willow bark and ephedra proved effective in enhancing athletic performance and burning fat.
Ephedra (known as ma huang in traditional Chinese medicine) has been banned in the United States since 2004 following a spate of sudden cardiac deaths in users. On its own, willow bark has not shown any weight loss properties despite its continued use in weight loss supplements.
Possible Side Effects
Willow bark is considered safe for short-term use. With that being said, there has been relatively little research into the long-term safety of the herbal supplement.
Insofar as willow bark similar to aspirin, it is possible to develop many of the same side effects, particularly if overused. These may include stomach upset, vomiting, dizziness, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver toxicity, and kidney impairment.
Children and teens should not use willow bark due to a rare but potentially fatal condition known as Reye’s syndrome, commonly associated with aspirin. The same applies to breastfeeding mothers who may inadvertently transmit salicin to their babies.
The safety of willow bark during pregnancy is unknown, so it is best to avoid it if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
An allergic response to willow bark is also possible, especially in those with a known allergy to aspirin.7? On rare occasion, the allergy may lead to a potentially life-threatening condition known as anaphylaxis.
Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room if you experience shortness of breath, wheezing, rapid heartbeat, rash or hives, lightheadedness, or swelling of the face, throat, or tongue after taking willow bark.
If left untreated, anaphylaxis may lead to asphyxiation, coma, cardiac or respiratory failure, and death.
Willow bark may slow blood clotting and prolong bleeding time.2? As such, it should not be taken with anticoagulants like Coumadin (warfarin), antiplatelet drugs like Plavix (clopidogrel), or any drugs associated with bleeding (including NSAIDs).
For the same reason, you would need to stop taking willow bark two weeks before scheduled surgery to avoid excessive bleeding. Willow bark should also not be used in hemophiliacs or people with other bleeding disorders.
Willow bark contains chemicals similar to the non-steroidal painkillers Trilisate (choline magnesium trisalicylate) and Disalcid (salsalate). Taking willow bark with either of these drugs can amplify their side effects, including stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.
Dosage and Preparation
There are no guidelines directing the appropriate use of willow bark. Generally speaking, oral doses of up to 400 mg per day are considered safe and effective for the short-term treatment of muscle or joint pain.
Willow bark supplements are most commonly found in capsule form but are also available as powders and liquid extracts. There are also topical ointments used for pain relief and oil-based serums intended for external use only.
Willow bark can also be purchased as wild-crafted chips or powders for use in making teas and tinctures.
What to Look For
Dietary supplements are not subject to routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.8? Because of this, the quality can vary from one brand to the next. Moreover, few herbal drug manufacturers voluntarily submit their products for testing by the U.S. Pharmacopeia or other independent certifying bodies.
To better ensure quality and safety, opt for well-known supplement brands with an established market presence. When buying wild-crafted willow bark, only choose those that have been certified organic under the regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Is the bark from all willow trees safe?
All willow trees belong to the Salix genus. There are more than 400 different varieties, the leaves and bark of which are believed to be medicinal. This doesn’t mean, however, that they all contain the same amount of salicin. Faster-growing trees, like the white willow (Salix alba) or the black willow (Salix nigra), are the varietals most commonly used for health purposes.
Generally speaking, the bark of all willow trees are non-toxic. They can, however, cause side effects is chewed or swallowed since you are unable to control the dose. Moreover, there is no way to know what pesticides or chemical toxins the tree may have been exposed to.
For safety reasons alone, you should not harvest your own willow bark without input from an experienced herbalist or botanist.
Treasure #12, Conclusion
The Coast Guard cutter retrieved the wooden cases and began unloading them on the dock. ‘Look,” the captain pointed to the helicopter overhead. Several sailors cautiously accessed their weapons.
“Millions in ancient treasure.” The captain pointed at the chopper. “Could be any clown wanting to pull the heist of the century. I say we stand our ground.”
The sailors nodded.
The copter drew closer. The radio squawked.
“This is the DEA. Stop unloading immediately. Surrender your weapons. Stand away from your cargo. Prepare to be boarded.”`
Judge Featherstone looked at the Captain and clenched his fist. His face reddened. “I wouldn’t put it past those snakes in Washington to pull some power play like this.”
“You want a standoff we’ll give you a standoff,” the Captain’s gruff voice barked into the ship’s radio.
“We’re not going to give it up.” The Mayor’s voice was determined. She took the mic from him. “This is the mayor. Whatever our cargo, it is within the provenance of the township of Key West. That includes unearthing ancient treasure.” She handed him back his mic and turned to her aide. “Call the governor, inform him and request National Guard intervention.”
In the chopper Smith and Jones sat with an agency pilot and a squad of DEA agents.
The pilot looked at Jones. “I sense reluctancy on their part. Are you sure they’re ferrying drugs? What’s this provenance of Key West all about? You don’t use the Coast Guard to ferry drugs. It just isn’t done.”
“It’s that Judge,” Jones said. He frowned. “One of those Huey Long demagogues. I say we go in and blow up their entire operation. No prisoners. Just like James Bond would do were he in our shoes.” He removed a sinister looking pistol from inside his suit coat and checked its firing mechanism.
“Piece of cake,” Smith told the pilot. “We land on their deck, make the bust, retrieve the drugs and get medals from the President. He likes the splashy headlines that come with big drug busts, especially here in Florida.”
The pilot frowned. “What if they won’t surrender it to us?”
“We blow them out of the water,” Jones said forcefully.
The pilot shook his head. “But we don’t have sufficient protocol for that. Our orders are to observe.”
Jones waved his pistol. “What kissy face liberal told you that.”
Smith turned to the pilot. “If you were sitting on enough drugs to light up Istanbul you’d seem reluctant to surrender them too.”
“I’m reporting in,” the pilot said. “Protocol is protocol.”
Jones swore. “Tell that to Mad Anthony Wayne.”
“Huh?” the pilot said. Smith frowned. The DEA agents fidgeted in their dark wooly suits in the eighty degree weather.
Evelyn appealed to the Judge. “I hope you’re not giving up Hemingway’s treasure.”
“Not on your life,” He assured her, putting his arm around her shoulders.
The captain spoke, “Women and children are to be taken below. All hands mount your weapons.”
He turned to the Mayor. “We’ll stand our ground. Escort women and children to the cabins below,” the captain barked
David sighed and fell in line. He looked at Todd and smiled. “It’s ok daddy. “I can handle it. Clutching his knapsack, he followed Lisa, Julia, Becky and a nervous Evelyn down the metal stairs. Inside the cabin he took his wand from his knapsack and peered out a porthole watching as the helicopter landed on the dock.
Lisa clutched David’s arm. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to save the treasure,” he whispered.
“Per order of the President of the United States,” Jones yelled. “Stand aside and surrender your cargo of illegal drugs.”
“What are you talking about,” the mayor shouted. “This cargo is protected under the egis of the township of Key West.”
“It’s drugs!” Jones shouted. He pointed his pistol. “Stand aside of I’ll blow your brains out.
She shook her fist at Jones. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Lisa clutched David’s arm. “Do something.”
David waved the wand. “Please don’t let them have the treasure.”
“I warned you,” Jones shouted. He aimed his pistol and fired at one of the wooden chests. The metal lock cracked. The lid shattered. Cabbages fell out and rolled on the deck.
The pilot stared at Jones. “Better stop.”
“There must be drugs in those cabbages,” Jones yelled. He fired into two other chests. They shattered and more cabbages rolled onto the dock.”
Todd looked at Jack. Both men began laughing hysterically.
“What happened to the treasure,” the Mayor asked Judge Featherstone?
He tried to speak but no words came forth. He shook his head.
Jones grimaced, and put away his pistol.
The Coast Guard captain glared at the Mayor. “You requisitioned the Coast Guard for cabbages?” He stopped and shook his head. “Wait a minute, what were cabbages doing at the bottom of the ocean?”
“There’s something very wrong here,” she said.
“But ours is not to reason why,” Todd added.
Smith and Jones looked at each other, shrugged and shook their heads. “Win some, lose some,” Smith sighed.
Jones frowned. “Guess there won’t be any promotions.” They turned and went back to the helicopter. It rose into the air and flew away. Evelyn and the rest came up from below and stared at the cabbages.
“What happened,” Julia said.
David smiled and said nothing.
Judge Featherstone shrugged. “Who knows?” He looked at everyone and smiled. “How about I take you all to lunch at the yacht club?”
Days after arriving home David joined his parents at the dining table. “These are for you and mom,” he said handing two large star rubies to Todd and Becky.
Todd’s eyes bulged. “Where did you get those?”
“On the floor of the Captain’s cabin when we were on that Spanish galleon.”
“And he gave me this,” Lisa said showing them her emerald.
Becky hugged David. “These are priceless.”
Todd smiled at David and Lisa. “I suggest we put those away in a safe place and not speak of hem to anyone.
“Yes sir,” David said. “But daddy I hope when Uncle Jack visits us in the summer, we can all go treasure hunting again. That was so much fun, don’t you think?”
“And when they visit I guess it would be appropriate to serve corn beef and cabbage.”
“Especially cabbage,” Todd laugh. He peered into the facets of the ruby and laughed.

When anger has no outlet it can morph into resentment and carries the potential to cause great turmoil.
Anger, when channeled into the pursuit of change, can be a useful tool in our emotional palette. Anger is experienced by most people, some more than others. It is when anger has no outlet and morphs into resentment that it carries with it the potential to cause great turmoil. Allowing us to assign blame for the pain we are feeling, thereby easing it, resentment tends to smolder relentlessly just below the surface of our awareness, eroding our peace of mind. The target of our resentment grows ever more wicked in our minds and we rue the day we first encountered them. But resentment is merely another hue on the emotional palette and therefore within the realm of our conscious control. We can choose to let go of our resentment and to move on with our lives, no matter how painful the event that incited it.
Hanging onto resentment in our hearts does not serve us in any way. Successfully divesting ourselves of resentful feelings can be difficult, however, because doing so forces us to mentally and emotionally confront the original source of anger. When we cease assigning blame, we realize that our need to hold someone or something responsible for our feelings has harmed us. We thought we were coping with our hurt when in fact we were holding onto that hurt with a vice grip. To release resentment, we must shift our attention from those we resent back toward ourselves by thinking of our own needs. Performing a short ceremony can help you quell resentful feelings by giving tangible form to your emotions. You may want to write down your feelings and then burn the paper and close your ceremony by wishing them well. When you can find compassion in your heart, you know you are on your way to healing.
Free of resentment, we have much more energy and attention to devote to our personal development. We can fill the spaces it left behind with unconditional acceptance and joy. And, as a result of our subsequent freedom from resentment, blessings can once again enter our lives as the walls we built to contain our anger have been demolished.

Personal theme: I am!!
Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19
Your horoscope for this week:
Between the Sun`s move into Aries on Friday the 20th, and the fresh start triggered by the Aries New Moon on Tuesday the 24th, you`re beginning a period of breakthroughs.. However, avoid finalising plans until you see what happens when, on the 31st, your ruler Mars moves into the sign of innovation and the unexpected, Aquarius. It`s about shedding the past and embracing the future.
A new friend or partner is trying very hard to please you. All you really want is for them to be themselves when they`re in your company. You love their adventuresome spirit and you feel this will be a great relationship, but they need to relax and realise you don`t expect to be entertained all the time. If there`s anything you`re struggling with at work or at home, you aren`t admitting defeat by asking for help. After all, how else can you learn?
Of course, all weeks are action packed but a week that contains the Aries New Moon seems to be especially so. Let`s not forget either that as of Sunday, Saturn moves into Aquarius. Bear in mind that these slow-moving planets don`t change signs every year and that this represents a significant cosmic gearchange. A strong possibility is being asked to join a new group or association and taking on a prominent role within it. The two planets Jupiter and Pluto are at work too. Both make spectacular aspect to the Aries Sun. All this suggests another phase in the wealth-giving cycle. By the close of this week you should feel empowered. It might be wise to take time out at the start of the week and consider carefully, – even putting pen to paper, – exactly where it is that you`re headed. Clarity is now crucial.
Personal theme: I have!!
Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20
Your horoscope for this week:
You`re in the midst of a streak of good fortune, although initially what arises may seem unsettling rather than lucky. That`s because elements of the world around you are changing in exciting yet sometimes surprising ways. For now, explore absolutely everything, knowing events and your own perspective on changes will come together on Saturday the 28th, when your ruler Venus is brilliantly aligned with the fortunate Jupiter.
You can make good progress by channelling your energy into activities that help move you forward. You will be doing your utmost to further your ambitions. Watch for signs of possible openings to improve your current circumstances. Expect to find yourself drawn into a group effort and this will involve a lot of hard work. Your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get on with whatever needs to be done will make a good impression on those in positions of authority.
The two wealth-giving planets, Jupiter and Pluto, are edging towards conjunction. This week the Sun aspects both. This likely represents a marketing opportunity that could take you to where you want to be by your birthday. Seeds own this week could bear fruit relatively quickly. What makes these seven day extra special is that Saturn has now arrived at the apex of your solar chart; a transit only made every three decades. This is the time to be serious about your aims and objectives and to build on all you`ve gained in the last 14 years. What`s especially significant presently is the support you are likely to receive from someone who is well aware of just how hard you`ve been working.
Personal theme: I think!!
Air sign: May 21 — June 20
Your horoscope for this week:
Usually, changes and new ideas excite you. However, the extent or speed at which things are moving could seem overwhelming. While that`s understandable, instead of waiting by the side-lines and watching, get involved. This ensures you`re up to date, but also means you`ll be discussing and learning from others` reactions to the exciting, if occasionally puzzling, events currently shaking up the world, and your life.
You`ve put a lot of work into a joint project while other members of your team find excuses to shirk responsibility. They are taking your helpfulness for granted. If you`re enjoying this task, you won`t lose anything by finishing what has been started even if there are others who stand to gain from your efforts. Later on, get any concerns that have been bothering you, off your chest. Either talk these through with a workmate or neighbour you can trust or seek professional advice. Either option will help you make decisions that help you move forward.
Saturn has now arrived in another of the Air signs. Barring a few months in the summer of 2020, for the next couple of years it moves through an area of your solar chart connected to the acquisition of expertise. It would be unsurprising if you gave thought to enrolment on a course or, if you`re already super qualified, think about how to pass knowledge on. It`s probable that long-term financial arrangements will have your attention too. In this respect, and with the realisation that someone (possibly born under either Virgo or Sagittarius) has been cavalier with funds, you might decide it`s time to build your own nest egg. This needn`t be just financial – it`s perhaps as important to cultivate a support network.
Personal theme: I feel!!
Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Over recent years you`ve faced, and learned from, a series of tricky situations involving others. While some were challenging at the time, others were clearly breakthroughs but still required patience or that you adopt a new approach to persistent issues. Now, suddenly, your efforts bring profits in ways as surprising as they are rewarding. Say a tentative `yes` to everything and deal with the details later.
You might stumble into a situation that reveals a friend or workmate has not been telling you the truth. This will annoy you but curb your first reaction and don`t let your irritation show. Now you know what is going on there will be ways to use this to your advantage. You aren`t quite prepared for the extra demands people are making on you now. Family commitments are heavier than usual and you shouldn`t be reluctant to ask for help when you need it.
This week`s New Moon highlights the very apex of your solar chart: a time when you are likely to identify fresh aim or objective. The fact that the Sun makes fabulous aspects to both Jupiter and Pluto suggests that you may be moving up the career ladder. It should be obvious to all that you are well aware of your unique selling point and what you have to offer. With Saturn now moving through one of the key partnership areas it might also be that a business enterprise moves into its next gear. Of course, it would be normal for you to be cautious and instinctively to move sideways before you move forwards. That said, even you must recognise deep within you that you need to make alterations before your birthday and that what`s proposed is potentially the opportunity of a lifetime.
Personal theme: I will!!
Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22
Your horoscope for this week:
While you`ve achieved an amazing amount during the past month or so, it`s been all about duty, finances or practical matters, so not much fun. Now, suddenly, with your ruler the Sun moving to accent new ideas and places, events aren`t just breaking that pattern, you`re exploring unfamiliar yet intriguing ideas. For now, focus on learning what you can, aware that decisions can, and should, wait.
A new partner is sociable and outgoing and keeps you on your toes. Will this relationship last? Only time will tell but since you are having fun, this is all that matters for now. Besides, whatever occurs in the future you will have fond memories to look back on. A friend or neighbour is expecting you to give them some help or support. With so much going on, you don`t know how you`re going to fit it all in but you will.
Saturn, whose journey through the zodiac takes almost three decades, has now arrived in your opposite sign. At some level you could feel constrained by others. On the other hand, this may be a constraint you`ve been working toward. Commitment or non- commitment are the big issues. Though Saturn appears to retreat from this position for a few months during the summer, only to return at the very end of the year, the likelihood is that you are now thinking quite differently about partnerships generally and your next career move. A boost comes this week; not only by the Aries New Moon, but also from major aspects involving the two planets Jupiter and Pluto whose cycle is generally regarded as wealth-giving. Fact is that you may now be ready to take a risk. Whether this is in or out of union, there`s high probability that this week marks a distinct turning point.
Personal theme: I analyse!!
Earth sign: August 23 — September 22
Your horoscope for this week:
The past few months have been unsettling, but you`ve learnt a lot. Better yet, certain once-essential arrangements or future plans are either less important or quite simply gone. Ridding yourself of burdensome elements of your life, and clearing your mind, is perfectly timed. You`re suddenly free to explore the amazing, although unexpected, ideas and offers coming your way. Decisions? They can and should wait.
New beginnings are ahead for you but don`t be in a rush as the time to launch a group project has not yet arrived. It`s important to wait until everything and everyone is ready before making a start. Patience, caution and confidence will lead you to future success. You are serious about your aims but you also enjoy your relationships with others. Catch up on gossip and keep an eye on what opportunities might be around you.
Saturn`s arrival in one of the key working areas of your solar chart suggests an influx of work. The daily grind could feel even more heavy and wearing than usual. Yet on the very considerable upside, this week`s New Moon should bring with it a working partnership that will eventually prove hugely beneficial. Yes, you may not feel this until nearly the turn of the year, but progress begins now. It perhaps helps too that by next weekend, the Moon will be moving through another of the Earth signs. What begins as all talk, should turn into practical action by the weekend. In particular, assistance from those born under either Taurus or Libra could make a very real difference to daily planning which, with their assistance should run more smoothly.
Personal theme: I balance!!
Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Nobody is better at making life look easy than Libra. Being ruled by gracious Venus, you`ll ensure others are happy, then quietly tackle various challenges and crises, usually with dazzling efficiency. Now, however, you need both a fresh perspective and, in certain matters, guidance from others. Ask, and the sooner the better. The response you receive will be as warm as it is helpful.
There is time and money to be saved by tackling home related projects yourself. You could discover a talent you didn`t know you had in the process. So, when it comes to jobs about the house, instead of waiting for a professional to find room in their diary, why not do it yourself? Someone you see regularly seems to be doing their utmost to annoy you. Don`t take it to heart and curb your overactive emotions or you might say something you`ll later regret.
All signs should benefit from a significant cosmic gear-change this week. Saturn moves into another of the Air signs, Aquarius. This will be its first visit to this part of the zodiac in almost 3 decades. For you, Aquarius represents that area of your solar chart associated with hobbies and leisure activities. As you might imagine, Saturn, the planet of great seriousness, will prompt you to look at these a little differently: you might now wish to improve a talent and perhaps, over the next couple of years, guide it into being another revenue stream. In fact, given that this week`s New Moon in your opposite sign, you may be encouraged to do this by someone who wants to work in partnership. This person may well have administrative skills that you feel you lack (but in fact might not!). What seems clear is that you would benefit from confidence building and reassurance that you`re doing the right thing.
Scorpio & Ophiuchus
Personal theme: I desire!!
Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21
Your horoscope for this week:
Being cautious by nature, ideas or offers that come from out of the blue or, alternatively, situations in which things fall into place magically make you uneasy. Yet according to the planets, you`re experiencing exactly that. For now, explore with an eye to learning what you can, not making decisions. They can wait; but, also, consider the possibility things really are as good as they seem.
You`re nervous about an interview or meeting especially because you will be dealing with people you have not met before. As it will turn out, this experience could turn out to be interesting and informative. You may even be made a surprise offer, so expect the unexpected. In addition to the determination and dedication you put into your plans, an element of luck will help bring your aims to fruition. Some people will want to know the secret of our success.
Saturn takes nearly 3 decades to journey through all twelve signs. This week it arrives at the very base of your solar chart. Though it will retreat from this position for a few months, taking up proper residence at the end of the year, this week should bring a hint of things to come. So, what might these be? Fact is that the very base of the solar chart is about where you come from and where you hope to be. Think of it as an arrow. It is now necessary to give thought to where it is that you want to be approximately 14 years` time and get ready to lay the groundwork. Think of this as a journey and this week as preparation time. You need to check what you have in the bank to sustain you along the way; and of course, need to give some thought to physical fitness for the trip ahead. This week is all about identifying what assets you have and what improvements and indeed what shopping needs to be done. In this respect, someone entering the scene soon after this week`s New Moon, could bring with them sharp and very 21st-century ideas as to how you could get on your way quickly.
Personal theme: I see!!
Fire sign: November 22 — December 21
Your horoscope for this week:
There`s no denying the power of your independent streak. Still, between current changes and the new ideas coming your way, you`re urged to seek advice from others. The trick is to outline both events and your own thoughts beforehand, and then discuss options with a range of individuals, asking for suggestions, no more. Then pause to consider them all, possibly investigate further, then make decisions.
Stay focused on your goals and you will get through a lot and make some worthwhile accomplishments. It may mean missing out on a few social get togethers but you want to make progress and you can`t have it all ways. Be prepared to work for it. Creative projects will be a great source of pleasure especially if you`re sharing your time and talents with others. You are resourceful in your thinking and even you will be surprised by some ideas you come up with.
There is a very definite change in the cosmic weather this week as Saturn makes it Aquarius ingress. Obviously, this affects all signs but different areas of life in each. It would be unsurprising if, for Sagittarius, local travel became an issue. There might also be concern about boundaries and fences etc and need to make clear what is and what is not acceptable. At a different level entirely, you might give thought to eye-sight tests and perhaps a visit to the dentist. Relations with co-workers are set to develop in a new way: Aquarius is after all one of the Air and cutting-edge signs of the Zodiac.. Anticipate needing to learn new things – which, of course, you might enjoy. Other factors suggest that this might also be the time to make long term plans and indeed, perhaps invest or put down a deposit on an adventure.
Personal theme: I use!!
Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19
Your horoscope for this week:
You`ve long known you`d need to alter the balance between your domestic setup and obligations out in the world, but have been unclear how to begin. Now destiny triggers timely shake-ups. Do whatever you must, then instead of going back to the way things were, explore various options. What you learn will, at minimum, be informative but could help you make timely, if not overdue, changes.
An opportunity you`ve been watching for will come your way. You`ve waited a long time for this and you even started thinking it was never going to happen. Although this sudden turn of events takes you by surprise, don`t let this stop you from doing what you want to do. Health is good and your stamina does you credit. Your mood is determined and whatever your aims might be, there is a high chance you will succeed.
Saturn has now moved out of your sign and on into Aquarius. Though it returns to Capricorn for a few months, this `cosmic gear change` should bring at least temporary relief from responsibility. You may find that others are now willing to share the load. Yes, for some Capricorns this might be all about buying in expertise. It may be that you are simply carrying too much. This week`s New Moon should be viewed as a starter signal for trying out new methods. It is perhaps also important that you give thought to how space is used at home. It may be that you need to clear a corner so that you can focus on a project has been very much in your mind for the last 2 1/2 years. You might also be pleased to know that the two `wealth giving` planets, Jupiter and Pluto both moving through your sign, make excellent aspect to the Sun this week. Indeed, it could be that a side-line brings in extra and much-needed funds.
Personal theme: I know!!
Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18
Your horoscope for this week:
It`s rare that the planetary activity of a single period can be defined as `life-changing`, but with both the practical Saturn and fiery Mars moving into Aquarius between now and the end of March, that`s exactly what you`re experiencing. While some events are merely surprising, others could seem unsettling if not unwelcome; but they`re all about discovering, discussing, exploring and, ultimately, undertaking much-needed breakthroughs.
If you were to take someone up on their offer, there`d be nothing but hassle as a consequence. To be honest you aren`t keen on some suggestions other people put to you. Therefore, go with your instincts and turn down requests, demands and invitations you don`t feel up to. You have more projects on the go than normal but you won`t have any trouble keeping up with these. You handle responsibility well and you`re more than capable of coping with current obligations.
Saturn`s arrival in your sign will eventually bring extra responsibilities your way. A hint of what`s to come should be apparent around this week`s New Moon. True, it may be that you`re more than happy to take on extra duties – particularly if you feel that you can do these better than others! And yes, that may be a financial incentive. An unusual set of aspects occurs this week – obviously affecting all signs but with some tuning into the possibilities more than others. Given the high probability that you`re ready for a change of direction, you may be more than happy to discuss alternate ways of working. There is also the possibility of getting involved in a research project requiring a degree of detective work. Here you could truly excel; showing others, that you`ve been ultra-observant in recent months and can see clearly areas for improvement.
Personal theme: I believe!!
Water sign: February 19 — March 20
Your horoscope for this week:
Happily, your powerful intuition recognises the potential in even unsettling changes. However, others regard even minor shifts as reason to worry, if not complain. Often, you`re tolerant, listening and sometimes giving advice. Now, however, you really must put you and your own life, priorities and feelings first. If you must, explain this to others, knowing whatever you say, their response will be as self-centred as ever.
After a brief spate of feeling one degree under, you`re feeling back on top form. You`re even willing to go out on a limb and take a small financial risk. Something is telling you that anything started now will be successful and you`ve always trusted your instincts. Whatever occurs, you`re enjoying life and for the moment you`re happy to take a wait and see approach. You are starting to feel more at ease in your relationships and emotional harmony prevails between co-workers and those in charge.
Of course, it may be that it`s simply that time of year, but there is high probability of you having a fresh spring in your step. The fact that Saturn – one of the slower moving planets – changes signs this week whilst there is also a New Moon indicates fresh vibrations. Given your high degree of sensitivity, you are likely to tune into these. If you think of each of us as aerials, there are times one we tune into signals better than at others. You may be ready to dance to a new frequency altogether. Not for the first time, your creativity, imagination and design skills could be put to excellent use. Anticipate that those born under the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn will beat a path to your door. It may be that they can`t move forward with one of their plans until they know you`re on board.
