Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Ending Daylight Saving Time Meditation
November 03, 2019 by Stephanie Rose Bird
Last spring we pushed the clocks forward an hour. Over the summer months this gave us more time for our crops and magickal work in the sunlight. This period ends today, as we prepare to fall back—by turning the clocks back an hour.
Go outside or near a window (depending on the weather) to reflect. Sit in a comfortable position on the ground or floor, preferably. Breathe slowly and evenly. Focus your eyes softly inward, to the center of your forehead. Visualize the warmth of the sunlight collecting in this spiritual energy center. Soak in light with every breath. Breathe in and feel sunlight permeate your being. Breathe out and come to appreciate and understand the power of darkness. Feel warm, comforted, and ready to go forward, lit by the fire within.

Consider creating this altar as a way to honor your ancestors and other departed souls who are dear to you. You might place photos of the deceased on your altar, but most of the space should be occupied by things that these precious souls enjoyed during life. You can include their favorite foods, favorite flowers, favorite candies, favorite colors, statues of favorite animals, or anything else you feel the departed spirit might enjoy. Take some time to enjoy each of these items as you think about the positive aspects of the person’s life and its impact. Express your thanks and share your joy with the spirits who have gathered at your altar.
Who Are Our Modern Saints?
November 01, 2019 by Barbara Ardinger
Halfway through the first Christian millennium, there were already too many saints to have their own days. This led to the creation of All Saints’ Day, which honors all saints known and unknown. (Read more online in the Catholic Encyclopedia at http://www.newadvent. org/cathen/01315a.htm.) We know that some saints, like Saint Brigit, are pagan goddesses or gods with new names and invented histories.
We Pagans can name our own modern saints. These are people, religious or not, who work for the rights of all people and to protect our Mother Earth and all her children. My nominations are Eleanor Roosevelt, Pete Seeger, and Nelson Mandela. Whom do you nominate?
Gather your coven, name your modern saints, and cast a circle with a purple candle for each person named. Lay photos or other symbols of these people on the altar. Honor them by singing your favorite chants. Invoke their help to inspire you to carry on their good works.

Mercury in retrograde motion brings the chance for poor communication. What if this year you choose to bring your practice inward? Interact with no one, no front porch lights, no treats for the neighborhood children. Plan a Halloween movie retreat in your own home. A few musts: candles or incense, cleansing of body and viewing space, and comfortable seating. Enjoy your favorite seasonal celebration foods and beverages, healthy or not. Dress up or down. How about mulled wine, finger foods, and a pumpkin dessert? Then dive into one or more of the non-horror films of the season. A few examples: Hocus Pocus or Bedknobs and Broomsticks or maybe even It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown or Practical Magic. Hollywood provides numerous choices. Bell Book and Candle, anyone? Settle in for a film fest and scoff at the inconsistencies.
Invocation to Carpo
October 30, 2019 by Elizabeth Barrette
The ancient Greeks divided the seasons into spring, summer, and autumn. The three Horae (goddesses) watched over them in turn. Thallo brought the flowers of spring. Auxo increased the plant growth in summer. Carpo ripened the harvest in autumn, and then returned the land to rest until spring should come again. Here is an invocation for Carpo, suitable for a variety of autumn rituals:
Blessed be, bringer of food,
Cloud-keeper of autumn’s mood.
All ripens and withers now:
Garden, orchard, field, and cow.
Hera’s handmaid, full of grace,
Carpo, come and show your face.
After the ritual concludes, you may use this devocation, customarily delivered by the same person who invoked Carpo:
We give thanks for autumn’s food
And the clouds of Carpo’s mood.
Rite is done and over now,
Fallow field and sleeping cow.
Carpo, take our thanks with grace.
Now depart and veil your face.
We Are One

At Samhain, the veil between the worlds grows thin and communication becomes easier with those who have gone beyond. That makes this the perfect time to create an ancestor altar. You can make this altar specific to one person, or it can be a general altar for all your beloved dead. They don’t have to be actual ancestors, although some people do that too. Pets are fine to include as well. You can use pictures of the dead or items that symbolize them, black candles, or anything that speaks to you. You may want to put out offerings of incense, food and drink, or flowers, or anything else your dead might appreciate. In the nights leading up to Samhain, spend a few minutes at your altar communing with and sending love out to those you have lost
The Silver-Tongued Devil Spell
October 28, 2019 by Storm Faerywolf
This spell takes an everyday mundane activity and transforms it into a spell for blessing our words and speech. The devil referenced here is the “man in black” or priest of the Horned God, who represents the divine and primal presence within all witches.
For this spell you will need your toothbrush and some toothpaste and some essential oil(s) of your choosing (tea tree, peppermint, and/or cinnamon are all good choices).
Ground and center. Apply toothpaste to your toothbrush and add a few drops of the oil(s) on top.
As you brush your teeth, mentally repeat the following, imagining the brush “activating” your mouth with divine presence as a bold, silver light:
Devil with the silver tongue,
I call on you to charge my words
With truth and purpose,
strength and might,
Blessed with kindness and delight.
“See” your mouth shining with divine light. Remember this as you go about your day.
Heartwings Lovenotes 905 Birthdays are New Beginnings
Heartwings says: “Each beginning is an opportunity to start anew.”
This coming week marks my birthday. Preferring to remain ageless, I don’t divulge the year. My mother always said, “you should be proud say how old you are.” Perhaps, yet there is a lot of ageism in our society, and it creates instant prejudice. Rather than wisdom, generosity and thoughtfulness, being an older person infers decrepitude, absence of mind, ineptitude and general weakness. I prefer not to invoke that negative perception. The women in my family were for the most part vital, strong and capable at every age.
I love birthdays. They are an excellent chance to celebrate. Also, being at the close of one personal year and the opening of another helps me employ a New Year’s mindset: I can survey my accomplishments and achievements of the past year as well as what might come in the next. I am given a special chance to correct any perceived mistakes or missteps. If I am willing to look at myself objectively and without judgement, to see myself clearly, I can make good decisions about what I wish to do next or to accomplish in this new year to come.
This is not always easy to do. It helps to practice a sense of detachment. Most have an inner critic that points out what about us and our behavior is undesirable or unwise. It is often prejudicial and inaccurate. Many find it difficult to ignore. They think of it as an immutable part of them rather than something acquired too long ago to remember. This inner critic needs to be told very kindly that it is no longer useful or needed and to please be quiet. Applied consistently, this technique helps us assess ourselves and our accomplishments in a realistic fashion. Having this attitude helps me to plan better for my personal new year.
It is important not to plan for to accomplish too much, thus creating a negative feedback. I have done this too many times. While I will make some plans for the future, I will make only a few. Instead I will look forward to serendipity, clarity, and many opportunities to learn and grow that I may share with my readers as well as enjoy for myself. As I stand on the threshold of this new year of my life, I anticipate only positive experiences or if not so, helpful ones that I can mine for what I can learn.
May your birthdays all be special and bring you happiness and joy.
Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert <firstname.lastname@example.org>
PS When is your birthday and how will you celebrate? Do you agree about not divulging one’s age? I love it when you share with me. Your emails make my day.
There is Only Now
By Madisyn Taylor
Being present lets us experience each moment in our lives in a way that cannot be fully lived through memory or fantasy.
It can be easy for us to walk through the world and our lives without really being present. While dwelling on the past and living for the future are common pastimes, it is physically impossible to live anywhere but the present moment. We cannot step out our front door and take a left turn to May of last year, any more than we can take a right turn to December 2025. Nevertheless, we can easily miss the future we are waiting for as it becomes the now we are too busy to pay attention to. We then spend the rest of our time playing “catch up” to the moment that we just let pass by. During moments like these, it is important to remember that there is only Now.
In order to feel more at home in the present moment, it is important to try to stay aware, open, and receptive. Being in the present moment requires our full attention so that we are fully awake to experience it. When we are fully present, our minds do not wander. We are focused on what is going on right now, rather than thinking about what just happened or worrying about what is going to happen next. Being present lets us experience each moment in our lives in a way that cannot be fully lived through memory or fantasy.
When we begin to corral our attention into the present moment, it can be almost overwhelming to be here. There is a state of stillness that has to happen that can take some getting used to, and the mind chatter that so often gets us into our heads and out of the present moment doesn’t have as much to do. We may feel a lack of control because we aren’t busy planning our next move, assessing our current situation, or anticipating the future. Instead, being present requires that we be flexible, creative, attentive, and spontaneous. Each present moment is completely new, and nothing like it has happened or will ever happen again. As you move through your day, remember to stay present in each moment. In doing so, you will live your life without having to wait for the future or yearn for the past. Life happens to us when we happen to life in the Now.
Top 5 Reason You Should be Drinking Tea
Do you know how good tea is for your overall physical and mental health? Study after study have proven the health benefits of tea, which other cultures have already known for centuries.
Here, we’ll tell you why you should be drinking tea, how to incorporate it with your crystal healing, what our most popular crystal energy teas are, and finally share with you one of our most cherished tea recipes.
1) Tea is hydrating to the body. It is a wonderful addition to your daily water and makes a tasty but equally hydrating alternative.
2) Tea has the power to calm you down. It can lower your stress level and offer comfort. For some it works as a great sleep aid.
3) Tea has less caffeine than coffee and zero calories (as long as you don’t add sugar or cream).
4) Tea contains antioxidants which boosts and strengthens the immune system.
5) Tea can increase energy and mental focus.
Top 5 Ways to Incorporate Crystal Healing with Your Tea
All delicious EarthSong Studios Teas already come with healing crystal energy inside. However, there are still other ways you can incorporate crystals with your tea! Check out our five favorite ways below.
1) While you are letting your tea steep, it is the perfect time to sneak in a moment of crystal meditation. Use the crystal that matches with your tea or a complimenting crystal. Hold the crystal during your meditation session near your cup of tea. Breathe in the tea’s comforting scent as it steeps, while you take in the healing crystal energy. Enjoy your tea when you’re done with your meditation.
2) Create a crystal circle around the tea and speak an affirmation while it is steeping. This could be the same crystal as the tea or a complimenting one. Your affirmation will vary by tea and situation, but it should be positive and life affirming.
3) Create a tea altar. This might be more for the tea and crystal enthusiast. Purchase or build a small wooden altar with drawers, basically a mini apothecary table. Put your tea tins or tea bags in the drawers with related crystals and sage to keep everything fresh, pure, and cleansed. Place your teacup upon the altar while it’s being poured and steeped, speak affirmations, and thank it for its blessings.
4) Wear the same crystal talisman, a complimenting, or enhancing crystal (such as Clear Quartz) while making and drinking your tea for enhanced effects.
5) Place enhancing crystals such a Clear Quartz inside the crystal tea tins for increasing the tea’s effectiveness. You can also place other crystals inside the tin that are complimenting for added benefits. ~EarthSong Studios
Finding Time for You
By Madisyn Taylor
We can excel easier in our lives when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled.
Within each of us, there is a well of energy that must be regularly replenished. When we act as if this well is bottomless, scheduling a long list of activities that fit like puzzle pieces into every minute of every day, it becomes depleted and we feel exhausted, disconnected, and weak. Refilling this well is a matter of finding time to focus on, nurture, and care for ourselves, or “you time.” Most of us are, at different times throughout the day, a spouse, a friend, a relative, an employee, a parent, or a volunteer, which means that down time, however relaxing in nature, is not necessarily “you time.” Though some people will inevitably look upon “you time” as being selfish, it is actually the polar opposite of selfishness. We can only excel where our outer world affairs are concerned when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled.
Recognizing the importance of “you time” is far easier than finding a place for it in an active, multifaceted lifestyle, however. Even if you find a spot for it in your agenda, you may be dismayed to discover that your thoughts continuously stray into worldly territory. To make the most of “you time,” give yourself enough time on either side of the block of time you plan to spend on yourself to ensure that you do not feel rushed. Consider how you would like to pass the time, forgetting for the moment your obligations and embracing the notion of renewal. You may discover that you are energized by creative pursuits, guided meditation, relaxing activities during which your mind can wander, or modes of expression such as writing.
Even if you have achieved a functioning work-life balance, you may still be neglecting the most important part of that equation: you. “You time” prepares you for the next round of daily life, whether you are poised to immerse yourself in a professional project or chores around the home. It also affords you a unique opportunity to learn about yourself, your needs, and your tolerances in a concrete way. As unimportant as “you time” can sometimes seem, it truly is crucial to your well-being because it ensures that you are never left without the energy to give of yourself.
Manifesting with the Moon
The cycles of the moon are important when doing any kind of empowerment work in order to manifest what we want in life. When working with the energy of natural cycles, you are likely to get better results with the cycles of the moon since they have great power over the tides of our emotions.
This lunar influence is not a constant, unchanging thing, however, and an understanding of the basic lunar cycles can help us to understand how these cycles influence our lives. The moon orbits the earth about every 29 days, and this first cycle is the one most people are familiar with. The moon is illuminated by sunlight, the giver of all warmth, light, and life in our solar system, but we can’t always see the part being lit. As the moon goes around the earth, we see the moon from different angles. When we see a full moon, the moon is directly opposite the sun, when we see no moon, its because the moon and sun are in the same direction.
“As without, so within”. Knowledge of the basic cycles of life is an understanding of the forces that motivate and drive us; the forces that affect our lives. ~peacefulmind.com
