Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Tiny Pleasures Magic
August 17, 2019 by Dallas Jennifer Cobb
It’s said that lots of little things add up to something big. Magic is like that. You don’t always have to do big spells and special rituals.
Saturdays are my favorite day to do tiny pleasure magic. While my teenager sleeps in, I slip out to the farmers market to buy fresh bread, vegetables, fruit, and coffee. I visit with local farmers, friends, and neighbors. I walk to the grocery store for fresh milk and eggs, and the local bakery for croissants or Danishes. Then I amble slowly home, feeling rich. I make a feast. Sitting on the deck, in the sun or under the umbrella, I drink and eat slowly, knowing all the tiny pleasures I enjoy in my community, at home, with my family, and within myself. Life is good.
Today, do your mundane tasks consciously, with enjoyment. Let your tiny pleasures add up to big magic.
Elvis Has Left the Building
August 16, 2019 by Najah Lightfoot
On this day in 1977, the King, Elvis Presley, died. Many people believe he never really died. He simply went away. His influence on music is legendary; his voice is ethereal and haunting. His hipswaying, body-shaking movements are memorable and can still excite the heart of a woman who was young and alive when he took the stage in the 1950s.
His home, Graceland, is a sacred place. People from all over the world make pilgrimages to the final resting place of the King.
Today, recall musicians who have influenced your life, for music is the tapestry of our lives and a personal, magickal experience. We all have favorite musicians whose songs have helped us overcome, get through, celebrate, heal, make love, and be inspired. Find one of your favorite songs and give it a listen. Give thanks for musicians and the blessings they bring to all our lives.
Celebrate the Fullness of Your Life
August 15, 2019 by Barbara Ardinger
Like the year and the moon, our lives move through seasons and phases. August opens with Lammas, traditionally the time of the first harvest. We learned in our Pagan 101 classes that we celebrate the full moon by metaphorically harvesting what we have metaphorically planted. So what’s your crop at half past August? How’s your life coming along? Consider this: wherever you are today, your life is full today.
Alone or with your coven, cast your customary full-moon circle with white candles and lunar symbols on the altar. State as your intention that you are celebrating the fullness of your life today—the good things like friendships, enough to eat, ongoing employment, etc. If these things have not quite manifested yet, act as if they are here and give thanks. When you describe them, use the present tense. Feel the fullness shining down upon you in the light of the full moon.
Energy from the Fire Within
August 14, 2019 by Blake Octavian Blair
We’ve made it to Wednesday, a nd many of us need some energy to get through this middle day of the week. Let’s call a bit of power from without to stoke the fire within.
Gather a piece of carnelian stone and a chime or tealight candle and holder. Light the candle and hold the carnelian stone in front of you in the palm of your left hand. Have the stone positioned between you and the candle. Focus on the light of the candle growing, encompassing you and the carnelian. As its light and fire grows and envelops the carnelian, also see the fire within your own soul growing, energy welling up inside you and the stone. As the energy fields meld together, hold the stone to your heart for a moment. When finished, either snuff out the candle or let it burn down safely and carry the carnelian as a touchstone to the fire that exists within you for strength.

This is the original day of the Roman celebration of Diana, called Nemoralia, or Festival of Torches. There are many roads to approaching Diana’s divine nature. She is protector of maidens, grand midwife, friend of the nymph, guardian of oak, lady of the wilds, mistress of the beasts, and goddess of the moon. Hers is a day of equality, appreciation for nature, and making wishes.
To celebrate this day, begin by washing your hair with a fruity-scented shampoo, then dry it however you prefer. Put on a green dress, and dress your hair with flowers.
Using a Sharpie, write your dreams and wishes on colorful ribbons. Gather fresh fruit, toys, or icons of a mother and child, and a stag.
Take the ribbons and items outside to an oak tree. Lay them out at the base of the tree, as an offering. Read aloud the words on your ribbons, then tie the ribbons to the oak. Sit and reflect on your wishes, hopes, and dreams.

Try this spell to help you remember that you are worthy and deserving of love. Challenge yourself to think of at least five qualities that you like about yourself. Choose a small stone or a pinch of herbs to represent each positive trait. Place the stones and herbs in a small drawstring pouch, or bundle them up in a circle of fabric and secure it at the top. As you assemble your bundle or bag, think about each good quality and how you appreciate that quality in other people. Think of how you actually do exhibit each of these desirable qualities. Squeeze the bundle gently as you charge it with loving emotion. Attach the bundle or pouch to a string so that you can wear it close to your heart.
Natural Witchcraft On-line Course with GrannyMoon
We are are drawn to the music, the drum beat…the heart beat of the Earth…our Mother. We converge together and wonder…what is this thing? What is this calling? We feel the stirrings. We seek her healing. We honor Her. She calls us.
People draw together to dance to this music and to break bread. Some of these people of like mind make communities or covens, where they can Feast and be together in song and ritual. But there are the others…the natural witches, those that find and use their own natural powers and knowledge. They seek only their own countenance. There is no dogma, no rules, only your own, however, there is training from those that have gone before.
We learn from Our Mother…the Earth, from the weather, from the elements, the animals, the stones, the seasons, the trees and all manner of living and breathing things, as well as inanimate. They have much to tell us, much to share. But we must learn the language of the Earth and her inhabitants, we must resonate with them to understand.
“Natural magic does not require us to renounce our family, religion or path. Neither does natural magick desecrate any traditional holy symbols. Natural magic brings out the natural power in all things. Natural magic is not an end in itself. ”

Heartwings Love Notes 892: A Patient must be Patient
Heartwings says, “The job of a patient is to learn to deal with issues as effectively as possible.”
The operation went well and I am pleased that it is over. Now the work of healing is paramount in my life and the life of my dear and sometimes frustrated husband. I can’t bend past a certain point which means I cannot pick anything up from the floor or put on my shoes. When I tried to do more than was good for me to do I was incapacitated the next day. He’s not used to cooking or finding things in the kitchen or elsewhere, and it is difficult for us both because I can only help from the couch.
For me there has been a steep learning curve concerning what I have realized is my addiction to accomplishing what needs doing and what I am actually capable of. I have been a “doer” since I was small. I get lots of inner nourishment from this. Being capable and helpful is a great source of happiness for me. There isn’t much I can do now except work on myself to get better. However, as I discovered when I overdid the exercises plus the “doing,” the healing of this body cannot be hurried.
That said, what I am finding is that this opportunity to venture into unknown territory—my current state of incapacitation, is a blessing in disguise. It means that I am getting more help with the chief study of my life which is learning to know myself. Study of the self is one of he principal underpinnings of yoga. When one gets beyond the exercise aspects of yoga, there is a fine body of wisdom awaiting one. The exercise portion of it was actually intended to help the student to sit still while meditating as well as to develop more awareness.
I studied and taught it for a good many years myself and found it to be very helpful in my personal growth. Now I am applying what I know to my progress as a patient recovering from total hip replacement surgery. In my efforts I have the kind services of the VNA and the good people they send me, as well as that of my dear husband. Their guidance is helpful, however only I can do the work necessary for my healing process to be complete. How happy I will be when the day comes that I can walk freely again. Until then, I will work patiently to be my own best patient.
May you find ways to use your challenges to help you grow.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert firstname.lastname@example.org

Heartwings Love Notes 893: Helping the Healing Process
Heartwings says, “The more we give to the healing process, the faster it can go.”
When I first came home from the hospital after my hip operation, I was determined to get mobile and active as soon as I could. I rushed myself, doing too much, and that resulted in a big setback from which it took me some days to recover. Now even though I am feeling better, with less pain, I am very careful to monitor my efforts and to pay attention to the amount I hope to accomplish.
I have found that focusing on the positive results from this experience is helping me to be more patient with myself. One of these comes as a consequence of my enforced leisure spent sitting on the recliner couch with my legs raised as the therapists wish me to do: Stephen and I have been watching some of the wonderful films he has discovered and purchased for us.
The BBC has a beautiful series, The Life of Birds, narrated by David Attenborough, with extraordinary images and explanations of these fascinating creatures. The photography, as well as the subjects is a delight to watch and I am grateful for this opportunity. Instead, at this time previous to my operation I would have been pursuing email correspondence, editing poetry or other writing, doing research, or even playing a game or two on my computer.
However the nature of my hip operation and the healing process it requires dictates that I spend limited time sitting at my desktop computer. While I like to read, my eyes can easily tire from too much time spent with a book. Watching the TV screen is a wonderful option. As well, the evening time I used to spend on the computer because I was busy during the day, is being spent watching humorous films that provoke laughter, a wonderful adjunct to healing.
Work on my healing is paramount. I feel impelled to do what I can to help it along. Doing less, while being faithful to the physical therapists’ exercises and their prescription to get off the couch, walk around and be on my feet for some time each hour is vital. The opportunity to watch some of our wonderful hoard of DVDs comes welcome and more unexpectedly as a blessing in disguise. I also marvel at how contradictory it is to be achieving more by doing less.
May you find time to do what is best for you and your good health.
Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert
P.S. Comments, questions, and thoughts are always more than welcome. I so appreciate your feedback and promise to answer you as soon as possible.
GrannyMoon says “Heal Well My Dear Friend”
Trusting Spiritual Assistance
By Madisyn Taylor
Remembering to say ‘thank you’ to our guides is important for the completion of the help they have given.
We may have become accustomed to asking for help from the unseen world–whether from angels, guides, or ancestral spirits–but sometimes we may forget to close our connection afterwards with a thank you. When we connect to these energies for assistance, it is much like a phone connection. Forgetting to close the conversation with a proper “goodbye” is like not hanging up. While that line is still connected, others can have trouble getting through, while in the meantime, batteries are being drained. Saying “thank you” is a way of releasing our concerns into trusted hands and getting out of the way so that the universe’s divine order can work on our behalf.
As spiritual beings, we may talk about “staying connected,” but our connection needs to be with our source. We can plug in and recharge, but we run on batteries in between, and every connection we make utilizes some of our personal power. Even being surrounded by people that energize us has its limits, and at some point we will feel ready to go off on our own to do what is ours to do. Instead of trying to be constantly connected, we can turn to these beings for help in a way that is more like placing an order. We contact them, ask for what we need, and then say thank you and goodbye.
Beings of light don’t require our gratitude; it is an energetic acknowledgement of trust and release that benefits us. When we bring ourselves to a sense of being grateful, we affirm that what we have asked is already done. Then we can move forward with confidence to do the things we are meant to do, while knowing that all will be well.
Showing Up For Life
By Madisyn Taylor
If you show up for yourself in your life, the universe will show up for you.
The way we walk into a room says a lot about the way we live our lives. When we walk into a room curious about what’s happening, willing to engage, and perceiving ourselves as an active participant with something to offer, then we have really shown up to the party. When we walk into a room with our eyes down, or nervously smiling, we are holding ourselves back for one reason or another. We may be hurting inside and in need of healing, or we may lack the confidence required to really be present in the room. Still, just noticing that we’re not really showing up, and having a vision of what it will look and feel like when we do, can give us the inspiration we need to recover ourselves.
Even if we are suffering, we can show up to that experience ready to fully engage in it and learn what it has to offer. When we show up for our life, we are actively participating in being a happy person, achieving our goals, and generally living the life our soul really wants. If we need healing, we begin the process of seeking out those who can help us heal. If we need experience, we find the places and opportunities that can give us the experience we need in order to do the work we want to do in the world. Whatever we need, we look for it, and when we find it, we engage in the process of letting ourselves have it. When we do this kind of work, we become lively, confident, and passionate individuals.
There is almost nothing better in the world than the feeling of showing up for our own lives. When we can do this, we become people that are more alive and who have the ability to make things happen in our lives and the lives of the people around us. We walk through the world with the knowledge that we have a lot to offer and the desire to share it.

The Time Machine Part 4
The doorbell rang as they were eating breakfast. Emily opened the door. On the doorstep stood two tall men in white shirts, dark suits and narrow ties. Their hair was short and their faces were grim. Both wore sunglasses. The taller wore elaborate cowboy boots, the other scuffed, steel tipped wingtips.
“We would like to talk with your husband, Mrs. Case.”
“Yes,” Hiram said coming up behind her. I’ve been expecting company. Come in.” He turned to Emily. “Coffee for the gentlemen, Dear?”
All three sat at the kitchen table and Emily poured them coffee.
“I’m Smith,” the taller one said.
“Jones,” said the other.
“We’d like a look at your computer,” Smith said.
“I don’t have one,” Hiram said.
“He doesn’t use a cell phone either,” Emily added. “But I do. I keep recipes on mine so I can have quick access to them while I’m doing my baking.”
“Then how do you make people disappear?” Jones asked.
Hiram smiled and sat back in his chair. “I have what I think they call lucid dreams. In the morning I jot down what
little I remember. Truth be told when I read it over it’s gibberish to me.”
“Gibberish?” Smith said.
Hiram nodded. “But once I’m in my workshop my hands seem to have a mind of their own. They move spontaneously.” He drank some coffee. “I had no idea that what I was building would turn out to be a time machine.”
“A time machine?” Smith and Jones stared at him and then at each other.
“Last year,” Hiram began, “I bought an oversized antique steamer trunk at our church rummage sale.”
“What’s that got to do with it?” Jones asked.
“That’s when the dreams started. I was with three men. They told me things.”
Jones cleared his throat. “And their names?”
“Copernicus, Leonardo and Galileo.”
Smith grimaced. Jones shook his head. “So what do they say?”
“I don’t know because I can’t remember.” He spread his hands. “Really, that’s all.”
“And that’s how you make people disappear. They get into your steamer trunk?” Smith’s voice was icy.
Hiram sighed. “I wouldn’t say disappear. It takes people where they want to go, or at least it has so far. That’s not disappearing when they return.”
“Perhaps you had better show us.”
He led them down into the basement. Emily followed. There stood the oversized antique steamer trunk twined with wires, knobs and dials. He waved his hand toward it. “Used by European gentry when they sailed the seven seas,” he quipped.
“Primitive,” Smith said, “Looks like something out of a 50’s Science Fiction movie.”
“Look for yourselves, gentlemen.” Hiram opened the trunk. They checked it over carefully. The original cardboard drawers had been removed from one side, as had the clothes rack from the other. There were two cushioned seats built in.
Jones peered at the dials. “What do these connect to?”
Hiram pointed to the wires coiled around either side of the trunk.
Jones shook his head. “This doesn’t make any sense.”
“But it makes things happen?” Smith’s eyed Hiram coldly. “What you’re telling us is hard to believe. You’re holding something back, aren’t you!”
“I’m sorry,” Hiram said indignantly. “What do you want me to say? That some Martians or maybe aliens from Planet X have taken over my mind and they’re behind all this?”
Smith laughed. “Maybe now we’re getting somewhere.”
Emily’s face reddened. “Please, my husband is a well respected inventor and has been all his life.” She drew herself up and looked Smith and Jones straight in the eye. “And now he’s invented something as big and important as anything Thomas Edison ever did.”
“They went out and they came back, my wife and police Sgt Bugle. Ask them.” Hiram said.
“And they both came back? You brought them back?” Smith’s hand hovered over the dials.
“Well, not exactly, no. They came back by themselves. I haven’t got that part figured out yet.”
Emily looked excited. “I figured it out. I remembered how in the Wizard of Oz that Dorothy could get back to Kansas just by thinking about her home, and I did too.”
Hiram smiled fondly at Emily. “When I asked Leonardo he explained what you did. He said everything happens at once and there’s no such thing as time. When you focus sufficiently on the present, then you naturally return.”
Jones face reddened. “You expect us to believe this hokum?”
. Hiram shrugged. “You can prove it yourself. Get in and take a trip back to whenever you’d like. Go on, get inside and sit down.”
“Just tell him where you want to go,” Emily said.
“To last year’s White House Christmas Party on 12/18. We missed it then. Let’s see if we can go back there now,” Jones joked.
Smith shrugged. “OK, send us back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
“To the White House on 12/18.” Jones reiterated.
“The White House,” Hiram said. He turned the dials to 12/18/
They looked at him, chuckled and squeezed into the trunk. It was tight, and they were bent almost double but they managed to fit in.
“Now remember,” Hiram said as he closed it. “The best way to get back is to think really, really clearly about exactly where you want to return to.”
The Time Machine – Part 5
Perhaps it was the combined weight of Smith and Jones that affected it, but as the steamer trunk time machine he had created lurched from side to side. Hiram’s hand slid over his dials, and he couldn’t tell where it landed.
Crammed inside the trunk’s small space, the two men felt like sausages.
“Open it,” Jones yelled but by then it was too late. Like a washing machine spinning into its final cycle the trunk churned and then came to a stop.
Hiram opened it. The trunk was empty.
“Thought so,” he said.
Emily smiled. “I hope they’re having fun at the White House.”
But rather than appearing pleased, Hiram frowned. “Something tells me I didn’t send them back where they wanted to go.” He scratched his head. “In fact, I’m sure I didn’t. I had set the dials for 12/18 but now they read 18/12.”
She sighed and patted his shoulder supportively. “Well at least they’re not here now.”
“True but I’m sure we’ll hear all about it.” He yawned and peered out the basement window. Was that someone sitting in a dark car across the road? Another vehicle pulled into the driveway across the street.”
“I’d say they’re waiting for Smith and Jones to report in.”
“Then we haven’t all that much time,” Emily said.
Another vehicle, this time a panel truck moved slowly down the street.
He let the curtain drop. “Why do you suppose the government has to make such a big deal out of this?”
“Oh darling, that’s what governments do. By their very nature they have to keep everything under control. How do you suppose they felt hearing that you invented a time machine that really works?”
“That’s no big deal to me. I just wrapped the wire and knobs around an old trunk.”
“Hiram the idea of people going back and forth in time like that is much too much for the government to handle.”
“I suppose. Judging from what I’ve heard and read they’re even fearful of space aliens and flying saucers.”
She hugged him. “I’m so proud of you. You invented a machine capable of performing the impossible.”
“I suppose if they were mass produced people from the government could go back in time anytime they wanted to.” He thought about that. “Maybe that wouldn’t be such a good idea.”
She went to the trunk and stroked it gently. “I think we should use it to go back to another time.”
“What are you suggesting? This is the only time and reality we’ve ever known.”
“Until now,” she kissed him. “And Hiram your time machine is more frightening to the government than flying saucers ever were. All I’m suggesting is that we relocate to wonderful happy and healthful life free of their intrusion.”
“Give up on everything we know and go back somewhere in time and …?” She took his hand. “I’m talking about us going somewhere else than where we are right now. Don’t you realize it Hiram? That wonderful machine of yours allows us to do just that. It’s just us, no family to consider.”
“This is a new thought Emily. It means adjusting to a totally different way of life.”
“Yes,” she smiled.
His face lit up. “Us getting into it ourselves and going to another place and time? By golly that is an idea.”
Yes, Dear. We can just go.” She eyed the trunk “And I think it’s big enough for us to bring a few little extras. She squeezed his hand. “Best of all is that we won’t be spied upon and asked foolish questions or maybe even taken into custody. That’s what the government does when someone makes it nervous. I’m sure they think they mean well, though I’d say some act like frightened little boys who never grew up.”
He nodded. Then he frowned. “But what would we do for money?”
“You have your great grandfather’s collection of gold coins and I have some antique jewelry. We could just bring a change of underwear and get some appropriate clothing when we arrive.”
He nodded. “Make life a lot nicer for us.”
“Oh Hiram, I want you to last, to not be fearful. That could make you ill. I think we should pick a spot in time where we can be happy and you can continue to invent things.”
“But what would make you happy?”
She kissed him. “You, a market with nice fresh vegetables and maybe handmade crafts, and a well stocked public library.”
“That would be enough for you?”
“We could leave anytime, and wake up somewhere else.”
He peered out the basement window again. Another dark car had pulled into their driveway. “As long as we’re together. That’s all that really matters.”
She smiled and hugged him. “Ancient Rome? Maybe one of the Emperors could fix you up with a workshop.”
He shook his head. “They’d be just as nervous back then about a time machine as anyone in Congress today. Some things never change.”
“Yes,” she said, “I suppose you’re right.”
“Why not try a western island like Tahiti. I’ve always wanted to visit there, especially if we could run into Robert Louis Stevenson. He’s one of my heroes.”
Emily put her arm around Hiram’s shoulder. “Good idea! Come upstairs; we’ll go get your great grandfather’s gold coins and a change of underwear. I’ll get my antique jewelry and an umbrella. It’s always good to have an umbrella.”

Miss Mazie – Chapter Two
OVERTIME AND FAMILY LOVE
Eddy Joe pulled off his work boots and sat them onto the cracked kitchen Linoleum floor beside his chair, then sat about pealing his sweat soaked socks from his bone-tired aching feet. “Lord, it’s hot enough to bake Sissie’s pies right on the front porch.” He sighed as Cindy handed him a frosty beer from the rumbling frig with its dented door in the corner of the small kitchen.
“Rough day honey?” She asked, rubbing his tired shoulders and leaning over to give him a kiss. “You’ve been working so much overtime lately me and the boys hardly see you. Not complaining mind you, just worried about you.”
Turning to her he snapped, “How the hell else am I supposed to feed us?” She stepped away from him, and he immediately regretted his temper. “Honey, I’m sorry.” He said, reaching out his arms. “You’re right. I’m worn out and being gone away from you and the boys all the time has me hatefuller than a bear waking up in spring. Come here, sit with me a minute.”
Settling her onto his lap and letting the cool air from the window air conditioner over the kitchen sink wash over them he asked, “Speaking of the boys, where are they?”
She laughed. “They blew in here a couple hours ago, gobbled down some peanut butter sandwiches and milk, and flew back out the door yammering to each other about some bible salesman they’d met up with as they’d run out of the woods near the edge of town. They were all excited cause he was on his way out to try and sell Miss Mazie a case of bibles.”
“Ha!” Eddy roared. “Ha Ha! Miss Mazie, buy a case of bibles? I’ll be surprised if she lets him on the place. He’s liable to come back with a good-sized hole in the seat of his britches for his trouble.”
“Oh honey.” Cindy giggled. “Old Bubba aint’ gonna bite no one. He’s a sweet old dog, and Miss Mazie’s just a different sort of lady. I’ve had her preserves, and I have to say, anyone who can put up blackberry preserves like her can’t be all bad.”
“Well,” He said, ruffling her hair, “You got me there.” Kissing her he asked, “How long you think till the boys come back?”
Wriggling closer into him she said with a smile, “Not till dark. You know how they are. Outside at sunrise, and not back till sundown. Just like we were, and to be honest, I’m glad of it. So many big city kids today are all stuck to those TV Music videos and junk. Other than missing a few conveniences, I’m glad we moved back home.”
Snuggling her close and breathing in her sweet honeysuckle perfume he asked, “Really? I’ve been so worried what with me gone all the time, and the money not as good as Friedman Chemicals promised that you’d be on the next bus back to New York.” Shocked, she looked up into his face, “Honey, there’s not enough money in the world to drag me back to that awful city. It’s a concrete jungle filled with crime, unhappy people, and way too much violence for our sweet boys to grow up in.”
Standing with her in his arms, heading toward the bedroom he sighed, “That thing with Joe last year really rattled you didn’t it?” Throwing her arms around his neck in mock fear of falling she said, “Honey, that mugger could’ve killed our boy. We never belonged in that place, and I was never so happy when Roy called and offered you that job. I just didn’t know how much work it was going to be for you.”
Lying her gently onto the bed, and stripping off his work clothes he said, “Well, there’s a promotion in it for me if I can help bring their equipment up to code, and we’re getting there. It’s just going to take time. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the quiet before our boys come trooping back wanting their supper.”
Later as lightning flashed over the outskirts of town, and Cindy and Edy Joe played a game of tag in the small yard of dirt and dead grass in front of their trailer with Joe, Ronnie, and Jake Eddy felt better about things than he had since they’d moved back. The time alone with Cindy earlier had helped lots, but this fun time with the boys was best of all. Not that he hadn’t enjoyed the feel of Cindy in his arms as they’d made love, but it was good to kick back and relax with the family for a change. Usually by the time he got home at night even Joe their oldest was in bed, and Cindy was ready to drop. How soon he hoped she could leave that job in Sissie’s Bakery and go back to her artwork. He wanted so much to be able to afford to build her that house with a studio attached like he promised, and…
Just then he was rattled from his thoughts by a booming bone rattling crash of thunder. “Holy Cow!” Jake yelled, streaking across the yard to his dad. “It’s alright son, but we’d best get inside before we’re all soaked. Eddy said gathering Jake into his arms. “Looks like a good one’s coming.”
Running for the door, Joe looked back over his shoulder and saw a large black curtain of rain falling just at the edge of town, and it was headed their way. He watched mesmerized by the bright zig zag patterns of flashing lightning arcing through the rain and then he thought, “Wonder what happened to Billy Ray?”
“Son!” Eddy Joe yelled from the door. “Come on. That’s not a storm to be fooling round outside in.”
“Coming sir.” Joe answered turning away, but somehow, he couldn’t shake the worry he felt for his new friend. “Was he a friend?” What made him think some bible salesman was his friend? But, that’s just what he did think.
Somehow, he just knew their paths would cross again.

Weekly Horoscopes Beginning Sunday, 18 August 2019
If you`re born within cusp period (16 to 26 of any month); you`re advised to read horoscopes of both signs covered by that period. You`re in the border; you may have influences from houses within those signs.
Outlines are longer versions; consists of every possible detail of everyday and based on three parts of each sign: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Decan; that is, any of three divisions of 10° within a sign of the zodiac. Even if you know or don`t know your Decan; I recommend, please read all three Decan.
Personal theme: I am!!
Fire & cardinal sign: March 21 — April 19
Your horoscope for this week:
True, you dislike dull details. Still, sometimes you must focus on exactly that. In fact, with your ruler Mars accenting such matters from Sunday the 18th until early October, you`ll be improving on what works, analysing what doesn`t and, in certain elements of your life, setting new goals. Some have been on your mind for ages but others are as unexpected as they are exciting.
You`re more aware of the influence and power you seem to have over some people. This helps you use the power of suggestion to your advantage. At the same time, it`s important to bear in mind the needs and interests of your friends and loved ones. Are you single? Your personal charisma will attract a new admirer. One moment you will be head over heels in love then the next you aren`t sure how you really feel. Time alone will tell.
Your ruling planet, Mars moves into Virgo and yet another side of your personality would be on display. Those of your sign are not always known for being efficient or attending to detail; but it`s not just Mars that arrives in Virgo this week: it`s joined there by Venus and, before the end of the month, by the Sun and Mercury. A strong possibility is being called to account over administrative matters. Even if on holiday, keep receipts, take notes and be careful you don`t lose important papers. The good news is that over on Monday and Tuesday the Moon passes through your sign. You could, if you work at it, delegates certain tasks. Just make sure that if you do so, it`s to people who have a track record of being efficient. Anticipate being distracted by ideas aplenty from someone who`s been travelling. Their excitement will surely be infectious. If you do decide to form a business partnership though, it`s once again vital that adequate notes and details are attended to.
Personal theme: I have!!
Earth & fixed sign: April 20 — May 20
Your horoscope for this week:
Recently, you`ve reviewed how you live, work and your relationship with family, loved ones and friends. That`s a lot, but looking back, worrying complications are finally resolved. Now, however, it`s time to update your own life. This involves your certain longstanding pursuits and goals; but it`s also about discussing existing plans, potential changes and new ideas with others. While occasionally complicated, this will be hugely rewarding.
You`re wondering how you might pay for a future holiday. It might be easier than you expect to arrange finances so you can afford some extravagant pleasures. Think about releasing funds that are tied up in investments that have past their best. If you can`t get away at the moment, you need to be with friends. Throw a party or take your favourite person and paint the town red. It is time to let your hair down.
The arrival of first Mars, and then your ruling planet Venus, into Virgo and the `play` or `research and development` area of your solar chart, suggests a decided change of pace. It could be argued that this would be the optimum time to begin a creative project. The fact that others are willing to back you and are really interested in what could become yet another revenue stream will surely be exciting and give you much to talk about on Wednesday. It`s then though, that as the Moon passes through your sign, that you should air some of aspects of this development that are worrying. It may be that you feel you have insufficient expertise or that there are administrative matters that will require greater attention before this project can be launched. You are perhaps right to address these now, and to focus on moving forward at the beginning of next month. In particular, forming an alliance with someone who`s used to worrying about detail but who doesn`t let that stress get to them, would surely be advantageous.
Personal theme: I think!!
Air sign: May 21 — June 20
Your horoscope for this week:
Long ago you realised that, often, you`ll spot interesting people or exciting ideas long before others recognise their promise or potential; but recently, you`ve been increasingly unclear about the role of certain individuals or events. Since you can ask only so many questions, it`s about taking things in stages. Learning what you can, reflecting, then, perhaps getting more involved. Final commitments? They can wait.
You`re naturally charming and attractive. People are enchanted by your delightful company. Your imaginative ideas will enhance romance. If you`re half of a duo and you have recently argued, now is a good time to mend broken fences. Some financial carelessness could send social plans into a tailspin so keep an eye on your spending. There are many ways to enjoy yourself without it costing a lot. Having fun should not depend on extravagance.
By next weekend, not only will both Venus and Mars have arrived at the base of your solar chart, but the Moon will be moving toward your sign. It`s probable that others will be talking about decisions you are making – or are slowly coming to. The fact that you have fingers in so many pies could be disconcerting to some. Intense communication is indicated for Wednesday. It`s likely extremely important that you are selective about the information you impart and that you are doubly, doubly careful about the language you use. Mis-speaking now could create huge difficulties even before the end of the month. Yes, in some sense you might feel as though you`re on home turf, talking about things that are really important to you. It`s probable though that there is much in the detail yet to be attended to. The fact that others are pouring over every word and examining the nuances of what is proposed should not be seen as a negative. Fact is, that those who practice due diligence should really be in the ascendancy presently and that you will need their assistance (and that hopefully you won`t sabotage their best efforts).
Personal theme: I feel!!
Water & cardinal sign: June 21 — July 22
Your horoscope for this week:
Over the past weeks you`ve questioned what, and in some cases, who, is worth your time. While discussing practical, financial or work matters this way is nothing new, viewing people in such a cool manner seems uncaring. Until you realise how, in several situations recently, you`ve done far more giving than you`ve received in return. This suggests this variety of analysis isn`t just wise, it`s vital.
You`re active and alert and you want to get ahead. Once you have set your goals, you will be determined to achieve them. If and when obstacles get in your way, you will behave is if they don`t exist. This keeps you moving forward. Are you trying too hard to impress a romantic interest? If they are as interested in you as you are in them, all you have to do is be yourself.
A large part of you could be anxious to get started on a new project as of Monday. It may be though that it`s at least Wednesday before you can move forward. Perhaps you need the boost of Venus joining Mars in Virgo to start the process of obtaining estimates and checking the amount of work headed your way may be considerable. Jupiter is now in forward motion and the working zone of your solar chart. It`s there through until 3 December and imperative therefore that you pace yourself. Dealings with neighbours and close working colleagues are set to increase. It may be that you can arrive at a conclusion about job sharing or dovetailing your respective routines and obligations. Concern about someone`s health might also be a factor. In fact, it might even be that a routine has to be adjusted in order to keep appointments.
Personal theme: I will!!
Fire & fixed sign: July 23 — August 22
Your horoscope for this week:
True, you dislike living a predictable life. However, since early July you`ve faced so many twists and turns, you`re exhausted and need a break. With the planetary focus shifting to the cool-minded, cautious Virgo from the 18th onward, those details won`t just be important, they`ll be linked to exciting if complex future plans. The one challenge? Taking things slowly enough to make decisions once, and wisely.
Opportunities to improve your lifestyle will make you feel as if you`re the luckiest Leo on earth. You will feel especially inspired by someone you meet who is from a different background. Travelling should pose no problems. A friend will volunteer to water your plants or look after a pet while you are away. Private talks could mark the start of a new romance or bring the end of an inconvenient arrangement.
Mercury is still in your sign but both Venus and Mars will have moved into neighbouring Virgo by next weekend. It`s probable that by then you will be giving even greater thoughts to `balancing the books` and preparing to make a large purchase before the end of the year. Don`t underestimate your ability to look at the detail involved. However excited you may be by developing possibilities on Monday and Tuesday, as of Wednesday, dealing with practicalities becomes essential. The fact that this requires dialogue with those who appear to be in a position of power yet require your assistance as much as you do theirs, suggests that negotiations could progress. In fact, it could be argued that this would be a good week for buying and selling. prices could move yet lower. This though, is when doing that essential background detective work should come in useful. Though not a trait normally attributed to your sign, in 2019 you could yet show an ability to undertake that type of research.
Personal theme: I analyse!!
Earth sign: August 23 — September 22
Your horoscope for this week:
It`s not that you`ve been shy about speaking your mind as much as, in a range of situations, you`ve been uncharacteristically unsure of your views, plans or priorities. That`s because they`ve been changing and, often, growing, more than you realise. Mars, planet of ego and action, moves into Virgo, on the 18th, boosting your focus. Soon what`s going and, equally, what`s next will be much clearer.
You will enjoy some luck in family related projects. Socialising will not be a top priority but partnerships and family are important. If someone special needs you, there is no question about it, you will be there for them. You could come up with a clever solution to a domestic problem. It might require some daring to carry your intentions through. There are some decisions you have to make on your own.
With first Mars and then Venus moving into your sign the spotlight moves to you. True it could be the end of the month before others are listening to all you have to say. The process though gets started this week; and yes, given that your relationship axis is so much affected, it may be that there will be lively discussion especially midweek. It would be understandable if this was property related. Your horizons may yet be widened. A further possibility is considering doing extra work from home. This might well require reorganisation that takes some weeks to put in place. The thoughts and energy of an Aries-born colleague could prove super useful. In fact, though you may have doubts about their skills at risk-managing, the fact that they are giving more attention to detail than in the past should be encouraging. If there is danger it`s that you could be accused of having fingers in too many pies. In fact, it`s arguably vital- especially over Wednesday and Thursday, – that you show that you can focus and deliver on time.
Personal theme: I balance!!
Air & cardinal sign: September 23 — October 22
Your horoscope for this week:
While you`ve discussed, explored and dealt with a range of existing issues, potential changes and new ideas, a lot remains undecided. Focus on what you have organised, both learning from, and, enjoying it; and take a break. Why? Because once the forthright Mars moves into Libra, on 4 October, and kick-starts an even more decisive period, you`ll be as excited as you are busy.
Job, health and financial progress can be made now. All you have to do is stick to acceptable and proven routines. Be sensible and avoid risks. If you need a partner`s consent before going ahead with some plans, be honest in all communications. An exciting new relationship will begin. This gives you a whole new lease on life. If you`ve been single for a while it might feel strange yet special to start thinking in terms of `we`.
Both Mars and Venus change signs this week. Their move into neighbouring Virgo affects all signs of course. You though should view this as marking `preparation` time. As for most people, the focus is on essentials and practicalities. There may be considerable organising to attend to. Travel arrangements might need to be made – likely requiring considerable writing and messaging. Double checking facts would be wise. Though Mercury is not retrograde, it is moving through one of the Fire signs. The temptation to do things at speed will be great. Anticipate too that your expertise will be challenged. You could pass this test with flying colours but first will require the lazy Libra part of you to remain hidden. For now, it`s arguably imperative that you work on both presentation and professionalism.
Scorpio & Ophiuchus
Personal theme: I desire!!
Water & fixed signs: October 23 — November 21
Your horoscope for this week:
You`re a master making it appear that others are involved in making decisions, while you`ll already have settled on plans; but now, not only must you share this process with others, often they`ll be better informed than you, which means leaving things to them. Once you overcome the control freak side of your nature, you`ll be amazed how much you enjoy being free to relax.
Your perception and intuition are extra sharp. Your intuition will guide you to pursuits that make your life meaningful. Someone will try to talk you out of your decisions but if you feel the time is right to make some changes, trust your instincts. It isn`t luck that has brought you the success you are enjoying now. It is hard work and perseverance that has earned you some substantial rewards.
You may have many, many questions to ask. The problem may be knowing how to get information without appearing to be seeking it. Yet it`s as probable that others need to know more from you. Your plans may be of particular interest from Wednesday. Note that both Venus and Mars change signs this week and that the focus moves to the maintenance of networks. It`s likely that others want to know your plans and specifically perhaps want to honour the work you`ve done. The more others try to seek you out – especially midweek – the more you will might want to see evidence of them doing so. In fact, there might even come a point where they wonder just how much attention you really need! Yet it does seem likely that a new alliance will form and that this would be a direct result of efforts you put in over the last two and half years.
Personal theme: I see!!
Fire sign: November 22 — December 21
Your horoscope for this week:
Not only are things going well, certain once distant dreams are on the verge of becoming reality. However, not all of these will turn into lasting plans or the longstanding arrangements you dream of. Obviously, you`re disappointed; but most of these are a trial run for later in the year, when, yet again, opportunities will arise. Except then, you`ll benefit from what you`re learning now.
Life in the slow lane appeals to you about as much as a week in the company of a boring friend. You want to have some fun. You want to be active and to make good use of your skills and creativity. You need action and to see results of that activity. A passive aggressive person will try to influence you in a subtle way. Don`t take the bait. No one should make you feel guilty about following your passion.
Midweek Mercury makes fabulous aspect to your ruling planet, Jupiter, which if you remember, is still passing through your sign. All talk could be of communications and travel; and yes, this should be super exciting. Bearing in mind that Mars this week reaches the apex of your solar chart and is joined there by next weekend by Venus, your career and all you put into it will likely be in the spotlight. A fresh alliance could be formed. You might though need to give some thought to scheduling and how much you can physically cope with. Uranus has been moving through one of the key health sectors of your solar chart since earlier this year. This does not bring with its bad health, but it is probable that you now need different nutrients. A major focus this week may be on diet and ensuring that you will be in tiptop condition for an event scheduled to take place before month end.
Personal theme: I use!!
Earth & cardinal sign: December 22 — January 19
Your horoscope for this week:
While life hasn`t been dull, for weeks circumstances have forced you to put the needs of others first. Ironically, what you`ve learnt will contribute to the cycle of powerful exploration and growth that begins now and extends well into early October. Knowing that, first, focus on exploration. The more you broaden your horizons now, the more exciting the plans that, ultimately, you make will be.
It will be hard to understand a moody friend early on. Nothing you say or do will please them and eventually you will just want to avoid their company. The clouds will roll back later when the atmosphere between you will change dramatically for the better. A re-evaluation of your life, relationships and goals could lead to you deciding you`re in need of something new and different. Get ready for a whirlwind of activity.
It all starts this week: before the end of August the grouping of planets in another of the Earth signs, Virgo, is considerable. This represents an area of your solar chart that`s all about expanding knowledge. Thirst from information will likely be great. Yet yours is a sign that also needs to know how things work practically; and yes, there is a strong possibility that midweek you will be exasperated by those who want things to be done quickly but who don`t understand that if the foundations aren`t correct, then there is danger of collapse later. So yes, by the weekend you could be accused of being picky. That said, it`s likely that many people who want you on their team. Your particular care, control and application will no doubt be much remarked upon. Indeed, it`s your utter professionalism -in stark contrast to those who only now realising the need to attend to minutiae – that could result in you being propelled forward.
Personal theme: I know!!
Air & fixed sign: January 20 — February 18
Your horoscope for this week:
The recent Aquarius Full Moon both triggered changes and raised questions about what, and who, make you happy. While, as an inquisitive Aquarius, you`ve a gift for finding almost everything and everybody you encounter interesting, actually experiencing personal joy is another matter. You`ve managed to do this in the past, so you understand it. Now that you`ve a better understanding of what`s missing, you`re more likely to find it again.
You really want to believe someone is serious about the wonderful promises they are making. Deep down you know there has to be a catch somewhere. Friends will mean well but their advice will muddle your thinking. Trust your own good judgement. You don`t want to put your trust in the wrong person. If work and other commitments have put you under pressure, laughter will be the best medicine. It`s also important to get out and enjoy some fresh air.
Both Mars and Venus change signs this week -forming a conjunction in Virgo next weekend. This is an area of your solar chart that is all about `joint financial arrangements and deeper meaning`. It may be necessary to deal with legacies, inheritance and yes, complicated financial matters. Others could experience this as the need to talk about subjects often considered taboo. A large part of you may be fascinated by the approach others are taking. It may be that they are focused too much on how things have been rather than as they could be. This is where your particular gift for futuristic thinking should prove helpful. The morality or not of a situation may be under much discussion midweek. The stance that you take could be remarked upon. Where you could take others by surprise is in showing greater flexibility than had been assumed and a willingness to work with those whose task is to ensure that details are attended to.
Personal theme: I believe!!
Water sign: February 19 — March 20
Your horoscope for this week:
True, you can remedy minor errors swiftly. However, you may battle the fact that understanding, and dealing with certain more complex issues will require time and patience. Yet, what you learn in the process of dealing with these will more than justify having to contend with dull details and, possibly, equally uninteresting people. Once everything is organised, it will all have been worth it.
Life is fun and some social events will be hilarious. You might feel you have never enjoyed life as much as you do now. Are you single? Channel your high spirits into flattering someone you are attracted to. A team spirit is present at home and in the workplace. Conversations in the family will be lively and interesting. Joint agreements are made and an older relative will give useful advice on how to resolve a problem.
The build-up of planets in your opposite sign begins this Sunday as Mars moving to Virgo. By the end of the month it might seem that others have all the balls in their court. Yet you could prove an efficient referee and guide. Midweek, Mercury makes fabulous aspect to Jupiter now at the very apex of your solar chart. With your guidance, and gentle persuasion, much could yet be resolved. The intransigence of others could yet dissipate. True, by the end of the month much detail will need to be resolved. As others pour over the wording of documents, it will likely fall to you to hold the long-term vision that all will be well. Though far from complacent about the potential outcome, you can perhaps see that once delicate negotiations are completed, then the fun of rebuilding and refocusing can begin.
