The next Supermoons comes February 19 and March 21, 2019 (following the peak of the Spring Equinox). Of these, the February 19th full moon showcases the closest and largest full supermoon of 2019.
With the January 21 full “blood wolf moon”, behind us, this supermoon is the second in a series of three full supermoons this year.
Super moon or Supermoon, is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. The term “supermoon” is not astronomical but originated in modern astrology.
The name SuperMoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979, arbitrarily defined as …”a new or full moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit (perigee). In short, Earth, Moon and Sun are all in a line, with Moon in its nearest approach to Earth.”
The association of the Moon with both oceanic and crustal tides has led to claims that the supermoon phenomenon may be associated with increased risk of events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but the evidence of such a link is widely held to be unconvincing.
The opposite phenomenon, an apogee-syzygy, has been called a micro-moon, though this term is not as widespread as supermoon.
10 Rituals for the Full Moon
When the moon is FULL, this is considered the highest time for manifesting goals, nurturing your passions, full-scale healing, encouraging strength and power, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money, and dreams. It is the most potent time for rituals for prophecy, protection, divination and any manifesting work that needs extra power. This is the time when the seed you planted at the new moon may have developed.
- Make a Moon Tonic
Moon Tonic water containing the energies of the moon embody very powerful healing benefits that bring about integral balance and wholeness throughout the body, mind, and soul. Clear quartz crystal catalyzes the absorption of lunar energies as well as amplifies the healing benefits.
To Prepare Moon Water
- Wait for a clear night, preferably on or right before the full moon.. put your crystal in a clear glass and cover with one cup of purified water.
- Check this chart for the exact day of the full moon you have chosen.. At sundown, place the glass out of doors in a moonlit place (cover the glass with clear plastic wrap).
- Remove the glass at dawn. The water is now filled with lunar (and quartz crystal) potency. Drink the moon water every morning to prepare your body, mind, and spirit for the stress of the day
2. Enjoy a Moon Bath
Bathing in the light of the full moon can be an intoxicating experience (even with your clothes on!) If you are able to sit on the ground under the moon’s light, sit in a comfortable position (perhaps on a yoga mat or even a chair). If you are standing, have your back up against a wall or building for support. Drink in the moon with your eyes for a moment. Get lost in the structure and shape of the moon. Feel this reflective light drench you in its bright shower.
Close your eyes and sense the space around you. Listen to the ambient noise (either nature, traffic, crowds…) Make yourself aware of this noise and then, slowly take yourself inward. Bring your attention to behind your eyelids and then slowly move your quiet thoughts to the center of your forehead or Third Eye.
Sense the light of the moon, even with your eyes closed. Take in the drenching light into the center of your forehead or Third Eye as you imagine it lighting up this powerful energy center. Take the time to breathe deeply and absorb the energy from this extreme power source. When you are ready to “dry off”, slowly open your eyes and great the powerful light again, through your eyes.
- Cleanse Your Crystals
The full moon is the best time to cleanse and recharge any crystals or stones, jewelry or other objects you would like to bring to full fruition. Most crystals can be cleansed under luke warm water, massaged gently with liquid soap or wiped down with a soft cloth. Place your stones in the light of the full moon. It is like recharging a battery. Leave them in the moonlight for several hours or until you feel they have taken in enough lunar energy. These journals are good places to record your outlook, your goals for achieving a path to your truths and your daily affirmation. It can allow you to look at that information later for understanding inspiration and guidance. Journal from one full moon to the next (about 29 days) and record events, emotions, love life, home life, work life or anything you wish to bring your attention to.
- Lunar Meditation
Try meditating with the full moon. Similar to the “Moon Bath”, bring yourself outside to greet the moon. If it happens to be cold where you are this night, consider sitting indoors where moonlight can stream through a window.. Set an intention for your meditation. What do you wish to achieve in the next 5, 10 or 15 minute meditation? Is it to calm your mind, bring about a certain wish or honor a good deed? Whatever your intention, state your intention out loud and then close your eyes. Sense the light that falls around you. Take several very deep breaths and exhale out all the tension. Use this powerful time to bring forth your intention and release it outward to the Universe. Your positive affirmation and direct intent will be heard. If it is supposed to be, it will manifest. When you are ready to come out of your meditation, slowly open your eyes and great the powerful light again, through your eyes.
- Moon Gardening
Moon gardening at night is a great way to enjoy white or light-colored, night blooming plants, in addition to those that release their intoxicating aromas in the evening. Electric diffusers work great if you are indoors. If you go outside, take a diffuser where you put essential oil and water in the top dish and light a candle beneath it.
