Llewellyn’s Spell a Day

Taming Technology
Spell Date: Sunday, July 22, 2018

We don’t want to bind or hex our devices, but some of us want to slow things down, so to speak, until we can get caught up with upgrades and apps and … well, stuff. A spell to tame technology has to work in both directions: on our device and on us. Let’s ask Sunday’s ruler, the Sun, for help.

Set Saule or Apollo on your altar and cast your circle. Plants tend to grow slowly, so find plants that are ruled by the Sun (sunflowers, rosemary, a bromeliad) and set them on your altar. Add cashews and acorns and burn cinnamon or frankincense. Finally, set your device(s) at the feet of the deity and speak these words:

Great and mighty powers of technology,
I am learning. I want to learn!
Please wait for me to catch up.
Lend me your artificial intelligence.
Give me helpful menus and remember my passwords.

Magickal Entryway Wash
Spell Date: Saturday, July 21, 2018

Saturdays are a lovely time to do magickal work for the hearth and home. Logically, the place that sees the most physical and energetic traffic is your front door. Today, give your front door a thorough cleansing with soap and water, then mix up a nice magickal wash to both cleanse and boost the energetic vibrations of your door’s main gateway.

To call upon the magickal number of three and all that it represents, buy three different citrus fruits of your choosing, squeeze their juice into a bucket of hot water, then add their peels. Wipe down your door and entryway with the wash and recite this:

“Citrus beaming with high energy,
Cleanse and clear my entry’s energy.
By power of citrus three, so mote it be!”

When you are finished, dispose of the bucket of wash under a tree in nature and let Mother Earth transmute any collected energy.

Spell to Honor Aphrodite
Spell Date: Friday, July 20, 2018

This date is the old Greek Festival of Aphrodite, Goddess of love, sex, and beauty. She was considered important for partnerships of all kinds because of her compassion.

To set up your altar for Aphrodite attunement, use the colors pink, pale green, and pale blue. Her gems include rhodocrosite, rhodonite, and rose quartz. Roses are her flower, especially pink or fragrant heirloom roses. Incense and oils should reflect flowers and fruits, all of which are sacred to Aphrodite and are under her astrological rulership (the planet Venus, which rules Libra and Taurus).

To invite Aphrodite’s blessing, light a pink seven-day candle, visualize Aphrodite’s loving sphere of peace, compassion, and love illuminating the room with a pale pink light. Softly chant her name (the traditional pronunciation for magic is “Ah-fro-DEE-tay”) and become aware of the loving, peaceful energy invoked by thoughts of her.

A Good Day Knot Spell
Spell Date: Thursday, July 19, 2018

Sometimes it feels uncomfortable to be awake and go about the day. Other times it feels great to be alive and taking care of business! It is my sincere hope that you are feeling well and jovial on this fine summer day, but if you’re not at your finest, please remember this simple knot spell for the next day you’re feeling in tip-top shape.

On a day when you are feeling wonderful, get a cord, a rope, or a simple piece of string in which you can tie a loose knot. Let your positive energy well up inside you while you tie a simple knot. As you tie, make a strong effort to focus your positivity into the knot in order to “capture” the energy.

In the future, on a day when you feel crappy, untie the knot and breathe its energy into your mind and body for a self-induced magickal boost.

Chart Your Course with the Tarot
Spell Date: Wednesday, July 18, 2018

The tarot can be a wonderful tool for looking ahead at paths yet to be walked and obstacles yet unmet (and unknown). To do this, you’ll need your favorite tarot deck and work surface (silk cloth, etc.).

Prepare by considering what period of time you want to look at: The next several weeks? Months? An entire year? Set a time frame and spend a few moments contemplating. What do you imagine happening during that period? What questions do you have?

Spread out your card surface and shuffle and cut the deck as usual. Lay out one card for each time delimiter— e.g., one card for each week, month, season, etc. Contemplate the cards and consider initial meanings.

Make a detailed journal entry about which cards turned up for which times, and note your initial responses. You might also photograph the layout for later reference—the layout itself could hold meaning. Return to your notes and photos weekly to assess what the cards have revealed.

Wash Away Anxiety Spell
Spell Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2018

No matter who we are, anxiety can creep into our lives. Before we know it, those gnawing thoughts can turn into little demons that interrupt our sleep and make daily living feel intolerable.

Release unneeded anxiety with this easy spell.

You will need:
* Stones (as many as you feel are necessary)
* A washable marker
* A large tub of water

Take as many stones as you need (garden pebbles work just fine), and with a washable marker write on each stone the anxieties you may have, such as nervousness about a new purchase or the first day of a new job or school.

Now take each stone and, one at a time, drop them into the water. Imagine yourself free of anxiety as the marker dissipates your fears in the tub of water. As you drop the last stone, say:

“I release all fear and anxiety
In the name of the Goddess.
So mote it be.”

A Thunderstorm Love Spell
Spell Date: Monday, July 16, 2018

Use this spell to add more passion and romance to your relationship. To charge this spell, it should be performed quickly as a thunderstorm approaches.

You’ll need a piece of paper, a red ink pen/marker, some dried yarrow, and an envelope. As a thunderstorm moves close, draw a heart on the paper in red ink. Crumble the yarrow over the heart. Fold the paper, put it in the envelope, and lay it on a windowsill. Charge the spell with these words:

“Thunderstorm, bring my love, excitement, and passion.
Hear my words and turn them into action.
Let the lightning flash, let the thunder roar.
Keep my love hot with desire, now and forever more.”

As the storm moves away, hide the charm. After you see it’s working, keep the spell active, if you wish, by replacing the yarrow once in a while.

July Full Buck and Thunder Moon July 27, 2018

Look for the summer skies to light up with the Full Moon in Aquarius July 27, 2018. It is also a total lunar eclipse. This July 2018 lunar eclipse is a rare central lunar eclipse, where part of the Moon passes through the center of the Earth’s shadow. It is also the longest total lunar eclipse this century, lasting 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Being as this is a powerful total lunar eclipse it is also called a blood moon because of the reddish color caused by light being refracted by Earth’s atmosphere. With three major events all in one day think of the power that is coming through for you and use it for your best and highest good.

The full moon in July represents what many natives call “Thunder Moon”, since July is a time when rains and downpours appear allowing Mother Nature to give her wrath to people who mistreat her. At the same time, being so merciful, she would provide support and fostering to drought and feeding her playground through surges of water.

Since July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur, the full moon of this moon is called the full Buck Moon. Another name for this month’s Moon was the Full Hay Moon.

This Full Moon is about balancing our commitment to our career and families. Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them.

The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between roots and direction. With the Moon full symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves, and to let things out of our systems.

Take time to pray and visualize what you want during this full moon.

This is a good time to cleanse and charge your crystals under the Sun during the day and the Moon by night.

This will be a perfect night to do a Burning Bowl Ceremony. Release what you no longer need and allow the new into your life.

July Elements To Work With.

Herbs: honeysuckle, lemon balm, hyssop
Colors: silver, blue-gray
Flowers: lotus, water lily, jasmine
Scents: orris, frankincense
Stones: pearl, moonstone, white agate
Trees: oak, acacia, ash
Animals: crab, turtle, dolphin, whale
Birds: starling, ibis, swallow

This is a great time to do Dream-work and meditation on goals and plans, especially spiritual ones.

Full Moon Ritual

Our ancestors used spiritual baths or sweat lodges during the full moon. Water is a medium that can transfer energy. I find that using 1/2lb. of Epsom salts in the water helps to cleanse the spiritual body. During a spiritual bath you need to slow down, take a deep breath, feel the water around you, let it wash and cleanse every part of you. Let it carry the hurts, aches, negativity, grief, rejection etc down the drain. Feel its strength and purity. Feel the water surround you, comfort you. Let it rebirth you.

It is beneficial to have an in depth spiritual reading every moon cycle. Since every moon cycle represents a change, it not only affects our external forces but our internal forces as well. If you would like to get a reading with me CLICK HERE!

Full Moon Blessings,

Heartwings Love Notes 837 Keeping the Peace Without Sacrifice

Heartwings says, “Maintaining peace is a matter of awareness and flexibility.”

My parents tended to discuss their differences at the top of their lungs. Their shouting made me cringe. They must have grown up doing this. My father and his mother my grandmother, used to have loud disagreements. My mother once told me they would telephone each other, call and then hurry to hang up. My mother also talked about the “fights” she had with her sister, so she too was in the habit of loud disagreement. Disliking the discomfort I felt, I resolved when I grew up there would be no fighting in my family.

When neighborhood children played in my yard, they knew if they provoked conflict they would be sent home. If my children were to begin fighting I would separate them and send them to their rooms. In addition, if I strongly disagreed with something their father wanted or said, I would wait until they were out of earshot before I discussed it with him. I had determined there would only be peace throughout my entire household. No one was permitted to fight.

However, in those days I didn’t know how conflict could be resolved while taking people’s feelings into account. I have since learned about conflict resolution and about ways to carry on discussions in a reasonable fashion. The “talking stick” method means one person gets to speak without interruption while holding a talking talisman. When he or she is done, the next person holds it and has his or her say. Even young children can learn to abide by this method.

Keeping the peace does not mean keeping silent, it does mean expressing oneself without being judgmental or vindictive. Feelings can be expressed and people can agree to disagree. What is important is to learn how to express negative feelings responsibly. I can say, “I feel,” not “you make me feel.” When I take responsibility for how I feel, others can do the same. When I speak my truth with kindness, I evoke the same response. When everyone listens, resolutions can be arrived at and peace can be made without anger, resentment or the sacrifice of anyone’s well being.

May you find good ways to keep the peace.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Herbs of the Moon
by Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs

The vibrational impact of the Moon not only affects the tides within our ocean, it also greatly affects the tides of our blood, our subconscious, our emotions, and intuition. The plants associated to the Moon act principally on all the major fluids of the body (water and blood), stomach and overall gut. The primary action of fluids within the body is to regulate, nourish and eliminate. Much of our digestive activity, and “gut feeling” greatly influence our mood and emotional body.

The Moon is known to house our intuition and our emotions. Astrologers look at the Moon’s position in a natal chart to understand the part of one’s being which is most vulnerable, including the emotions which we nurture and protect. Important lunar transits and aspects to the natal Moon (the moon’s placement in your birth chart) may indicate vulnerability to certain health issues. Some examples could be difficulties with the menstrual cycle, digestive difficulties, constipation,

L U N A R  A N A T O M Y

“The lunar correspondences with human anatomy include much of the brain and the rear pituitary. The left eye and the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, and hormones associated with the alimentary system), the uterus, the breasts, ovaries and menstrual cycle are also governed by the Moon. Most modern medical astrologers place the lymphatic system and the sympathetic nervous system with the Moon as well.” (Dr. Paul Beyerl)

Doctors and healers of the past, like in Chinese Medicine, used astrology as a means to mapping and observing the illness of a patient and particularly used the Moon to track its progression. Some imbalances, like colds, arise when we are more vulnerable due to emotional stress or anxieties which threaten the health of one’s unconscious. Try to pay attention to this on a monthly basis. Learn about where your natal moon is located, and how you feel throughout the course of the month along with the ongoing lunar cycles. This can greatly help you unlock fluctuations with hormones, moods, eating patterns and thought patterns.

L U N A R  E N E R G E T I C S

By nature, lunar herbs are cool and moist. They represent the feminine or Yin aspects of the Universe and may be worked in polarity with solar herbs. Lunar herbs promote a nurturing quality within the individual and work compatibly with the receptive aspects of one’s being.

P H Y S I C A L

Digestive herbs, both cooling and warming herbs that assist the digestive system.

Kidney Herbs that prevent the over-accumulation of uric acid, preventing the formation of kidney stones. Diuretics These particular herbs naturally can prevent the formation of gallstones as well.
Blood herbs that assist as anti-coagulants, and diuretics.

E M O T I O N A L

Many of the dopamine-regulating herbs (feel-good herbs) are lunar. Herbs that help us tap into the feeling body, and abandon the mind. Herbs that soothe the heavy heart, and assist deep relief to pain and/or trauma.

S P I R I T U A L

Herbs of the Moon can greatly affect the subconscious mind. Their powerful action on our body’s watery reserves is known to pave the ways to the intuitive mind. Many of the mystical and visionary herbs fall under this category as they focus on dilating our pituitary gland and generally known as spirit tonics. They are a very good aid in the development of the intuition and of psychic abilities as well as in remembering dreams. These herbs can be great assistants when paired with visionary herbs, like ayahuasca, iboga, bufo alvarius, etc. as they help assimilate the intensive experience within the shamanic journey back with the natural ebb and flow of life.

The green world of plants grows at night, having generated its fuel during the day from the radiant light of the Sun. It is against a starlit night that life is simpler, that we must see with our feelings rather than with our logic. Herbs of the Moon render us more sensitive, and wisely, help us uncomplicate our lives so that fulfillment becomes a more realistic goal.

The Elderly Population
By Madisyn Taylor

Our elderly population are our mentors and wise folk that came before us and paved the way for our future.

In tribal cultures, the elderly play an important role. They are the keepers of the tribe’s memories and the holders of wisdom. As such, the elderly are honored and respected members of tribes. In many modern cultures, however, this is often not the case. Many elderly people say that they feel ignored, left out, and disrespected. This is a sad commentary on modernization, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We can change this situation by taking the time to examine our attitudes about the elderly and taking action.

Modern societies tend to be obsessed with the ideas of newness, youth, and progress. Scientific studies tell us how to do everything – from the way we should raise our kids to what we need to eat for breakfast. As a result, the wisdom that is passed down from older generations is often disregarded. Of course, grandparents and retired persons have more than information to offer the world. Their maturity and experience allows for a larger perspective of life, and we can learn a lot from talking to elderly people. It’s a shame that society doesn’t do more to allow our older population to continue to feel productive for the rest of their lives, but you can help to make change. Perhaps you could help facilitate a mentorship program that would allow children to be tutored by the elderly in retirement homes. The elderly make wonderful storytellers, and creating programs where they could share their real life experiences with others is another way to educate and inspire other generations.

Take stock of your relationships with the elderly population. Maybe you don’t really listen to them because you hold the belief that their time has passed and they are too old to understand what you are going through. You may even realize that you don’t have any relationships with older people. Try to understand why and how our cultural perception of the elderly influences the way you perceive them. Look around you and reach out to someone who is elderly – even if you are just saying hello and making small talk. Resolve to be more aware of the elderly. They are our mentors, wise folk, and the pioneers that came before us and paved the way for our future.

Stephen Halpert
The Walking Stick

While he was unloading his weekly trash, George found a walking stick with the silver top. It was a smooth, polished hickory stick that showed some age; its usual rubber tip however was missing. It was beside the dumpster behind his condo. The loose-fitting sterling top had a monogram set within a fancy engraving between two royal lions.
George twirled the stick between his fingers. It felt as though it had been designed exclusively for him.
Why he wondered would someone leave such a finely crafted walking stick beside the dumpster. His first thought was that it had been stolen, and the thief got cold feet and discarded it. Then what crossed his mind was that it had been lost and accidentally left with trash. He shrugged, shook his head and tucked it under his arm.
Good fortune he thought. He began to carry it the way he thought a Victorian British country gentleman might. But despite how hard he tried pressing it between his arm and chest the stick constantly slid downward into his hand.
Holding it gave him the sense of being aristocratic; not only that but being a gentleman of privilege. Normally a person of simple means and basic tastes, when he held the stick, especially when he leaned on it, his attitudes and mindset abruptly changed.
George had always supported democratic principles. He believed fervently in health care for all, public assistance for the poor, and women’s rights: not only a woman’s right to choose but also absolute equality for women in the workplace.
Walking back to his condo however, George began to feel resentment against the poor on public assistance. What right did they have expecting free handouts when all the rest of us have to work for our paychecks. The thought of his government having the burden to provide health care annoyed him. Wasn’t tax money intended for national security not free lunch programs for needy children. He stopped walking and felt genuinely upset when the thought of women having equality to men crossed his mind.
Back in his condo he set his new walking stick in the umbrella stand inside his entry way.
What’s all that about, he thought. Where are these weird conservative thoughts coming from? He went back to the hallway and retrieved his new walking stick. As soon as he clutched it those same odd feelings fervently insisted their way into his mind.
That night he picked up his girlfriend Becky and drove to their favorite bistro for pizza and beer.
“Nice walking stick.” Becky said as climbed in next to him. “Not something I’d usually expect to see you carrying. Where’d you find it?”
He thought it would be insulting to the walking stick to say he found it by the dumpster. Instead he smiled and heard himself say “an English Lord bequeathed it to me.”
Becky giggled. “More like you found it at a yard sale or at the Salvation Army.”
“If you say so,” he grinned. “Don’t think I’m high class enough for an English lord’s walking stick?”
“That’s right,” she grinned.
“Well if you must know it was a gift from Lord Dumpster.”
Becky laughed. “Oh I know Lord and Lady Dumpster. That’s where I found my Bentwood rocker. No doubt a hand-me-down from their palace. Not to change the subject but have you registered to vote in the primary next week.” Becky’s question made him bristle. “You mean that referendum to support more money for school lunches?”
She nodded.
“Personally I think our state has more important things to do like more money for police and fire firefighters.”
Becky frowned. “Are you sure? That’s not what you said the other day.” She noticed his hand holding his walking stick.
“Let’s not go there, ok?”
“If you say so. But I thought we had agreed that the school lunch program was vital.”
“Anyone can change his mind,” he said lamely.
“Sure,” she nodded. “I guess we can agree to disagree.”
They finished their pizza in silence. Becky surprised George by declining another beer.
“It’s getting late,” she said.
They left. George was feeling annoyed. Walking toward his car they were confronted by three big tough guys in hoodies and dark glasses.
“We want your money,” the bigger one said. ”
Becky shrank back. “Give him what you have George. It isn’t worth ending up in the hospital.”
“Girly there’s smart,” one guy said and made a grab for Becky.
George nodded in compliance. The next instance the walking stick seemed to become an extension of his hand. He sidestepped the first punk and slammed the stick against the side of his neck. Then George found himself whirling, his stick struck against the second one landing across the bridge of his nose. Instantly blood gushed out.
The third punk tried to back away but George watched as his stick poked his ear and then landed another blow against his mouth. More blood.
Becky screamed. Patrons from the bistro rushed out onto the sidewalk and apprehended the three assailants. A police wagon appeared and they were carted off.
“Pretty fancy footwork,” a police officer said. He peered at George. “You into marshal arts?”
“No,” George said. “Those guys tried to grab my girlfriend and I did what I had to do spontaneously.”
“My hero,” Becky hugged George. “You and Jack Reacher.”
The police officer took George and Becky’s names and told them they’d have to testify at a pretrial hearing.
Back in his car Becky kissed him. “I never saw you do anything like that before. And I know this sounds kind of weird but I saw a shadow moving your arm. Maybe your walking stick’s haunted.”
“Could be,” George said. “I know I think differently when I have it with me.”
“My hero,” she smiled and again kissed George. “Just do me one favor. When you go to vote please leave it in your car. We need all the votes we can get for the school lunch program.”

How Fear Blocks Creativity
By Madisyn Taylor

When we feel safe, our creativity unfolds like a beautiful flower.

To understand how fear blocks creativity, take a moment to imagine yourself telling a story. First, imagine telling the story to someone you love and who loves you. You probably feel warmth and energy as you fill in the details of your tale to your friend’s delight. Now, imagine telling the same story to someone who, for whatever reason, makes you uncomfortable. The wonderful twists and turns, the fine points and colorful images that unfolded in your mind for your friend probably won’t present themselves. Instead of warmth, energy, and creativity, you will probably feel opposite sensations and a desire to close down. When we feel unsafe, whether we fear being judged, disliked, or misunderstood, our creative flow stops. Alternately, when we feel safe, our creativity unfolds like a beautiful flower, without conscious effort.

Knowing this, we can maximize our creative potential by creating the conditions that inspire our creativity. In order to really be in the flow, we need to feel safe and unrestricted. However, achieving this is not as simple as avoiding people who make us feel uncomfortable. Sometimes we can be alone in a room and still feel totally blocked. When this happens, we know we have come up against elements in our own psyches that are making us feel fearful. Perhaps we are afraid that in expressing ourselves we will discover something we don’t want to know, or unleash emotions or ideas that we don’t want to be responsible for. Or maybe we’re afraid we’ll fail to produce something worthy.

When you’re up against fear, internal or external, ritual can be a powerful–and creative–antidote. Before you sit down to be creative, try casting a circle of protection around yourself. Visualize yourself inside a ring of light, protective fire, or angels. Imagine that this protective energy emanates unconditional love for you and wants to hear, see, and feel everything you have to express. Take a moment to bathe in the warmth of this feeling and then fearlessly surrender yourself to the power that flows through you.
