Tasha’s Astro Planner for February 2018
This, the shortest month can be an interesting one because two thirds of it is powered by Uranus, planet of sudden and usually unexpected happenings. One unusual aspect of this particularly February is that is has no Full Moon. There is one on the last day of January and another on March 1. However, there is a powerful New Moon Eclipse in the middle of the month on the 15th. There are no retrograde planets at this time. This indicates that during this time period efforts and events may well go forward without any hindrance.
The signs these so-called personal planets are in cue us into the energy at work in our world. The Sun in original Aquarius changes to gentle Pisces on the 19th. Mercury (thoughts and communications) in unique Aquarius moves into colorful Pisces on the 18th. Venus (Choices and decisions) in willful Aquarius changes to inclusive Pisces on the 11th. Mars (physical push) is in energetic Sagittarius all month; you can take advantage of this energy to learn, grow and expand. These are the personal planets, representing daily activities and efforts. Going with the energy of the time-whether forceful or relaxed, you can accomplish more.
These so-called outer planets represent trends and larger currents of energy. Jupiter is in Scorpio all month, prompting blessings for those who dig out the truth and solve mysteries. Saturn is in Capricorn all month putting pressure on business and politics to be authentic, grounded and structured. Uranus is in Aries all month helping promote inventions and innovations. Neptune is in Pisces, helping boost spirituality or possibly bringing deception to those who are not mindful. Pluto is in Capricorn also, digging up deliberately hidden trickery to bring it to light.
The New Moon in Aquarius on the 15th suggests we focus on helping people altruistically through organizations, or group efforts. We can also look to find unique or unusual solutions to dilemmas as well as resolve issues in ways we hadn’t thought to or considered. The eclipse adds an element of change to this time. Because it is Aquarian in nature, it may also represent events that are more than usually unplanned or unexpected. The two weeks preceding it are under the influence of the eclipse at the end of January, therefore this time may be unusually turbulent with unexpected changes or developments.
There is an interesting overall emphasis this month on the potential for illusion, delusion, and deception-self or otherwise. For your planning purposes a few dates may be helpful: 2/3-4 be mindful of excess and push your luck; 2/10 exaggeration and excess may be evident; 2/13 watch out for cheaters or tall tales; Eclipse/New Moon energy heralds change; 2/16-17 More potential for lies and/or deception; 1/21 spiritual vibrations encourage meditation; 2/24-25 postpone choices, seek guidance; 2/28 avoid controversy, seek truth.

Llewellyn’s Spell a Day
Spell Date: Saturday, February 3, 2018
With life so hectic and busy for so many of us, it can be hard to balance work, school, family, friends, romantic partner(s), and alone time. Take a moment to focus on what you need to recharge and realign your energies. Now take a pale-blue pillar candle and carve it with a large set of scales (the symbol for Libra), as the moon goes into Libra today and it’s a good time for balancing energies. Next, carve symbols or words of all those various balls you’re trying to keep in the air.
Anoint the candle with some lavender oil, for peace and harmony, and visualize all these different aspects of your life running smoothly. Focus clearly and strongly. Let the candle burn for several nights in a row, until it is gone (taking any necessary safety precautions). Be blessed.

Create a Magical Incense
Spell Date: Friday, February 2, 2018
Imbolc is a traditional fire festival. Prepare for it with this incense. You’ll need a combination of these Imbolc/winter-corresponding dry materials (bark and aerial parts should be in dried form): cedar bark, shavings, or essential oil; rowan leaves, berries, or bark; basil leaves; blackberry leaves or brambles; oak shavings, leaves, or bark; rosemary leaves or essential oil; whole or powdered cloves; cinnamon sticks or powder; mugwort; holly leaves or berries.
In addition, you’ll need one or more of the following binders: grated beeswax, carrier oil (olive or sunflower are ideal), or your choice of resin.
Combine the dry materials in a mortar and pestle (or spice grinder) to create a uniform mixture. Add the binder to bring the incense together, whether in loose or “solid” form.
As you work, charge the incense by repeating:
“Scents of ages, born of fire,
spells arise as will inspires.”
Use your incense to usher in Imbolc.

A Cup of Cocoa for Saint Brigid
Spell Date: Thursday, February 1, 2018
Today is Saint Brigid’s Day, that goddess guised as a saint who is, among other things, the patroness of dairy maids (which connects her to the ewes coming into milk at this time of year). February also brings us Lupercalia, Juno Februata, and Valentine’s Day, celebrations of the passion that sparks all month ( perhaps with a bit of commercial help!).
Bring Brigid and love together with a hot chocolate spell. Add your favorite chocolate medium to a mug of warm milk (which will also ward off winter chills!). Stir the brew clockwise to invoke her, and speak this incantation:
“Brigid, divine saint and goddess,
Bless me with your gracious goodness.
In milk is possibility,
In chocolate, love and empathy.
Come together on this day
To bring your light and love my way.”
Toast the goddess and savor every sip, knowing you are blessed with love and potential.

A Quickening Spell
Spell Date: Wednesday, January 31, 2018
The second full moon of the year has many names: Snow Moon, Moon of Ice, Bear Moon, Quickening Moon, Little Famine Moon, and Bony Moon. This one occurs in Leo, a sign known for shining a personal spotlight. Prepare to view tonight’s total lunar eclipse either outdoors or indoors. A lunar eclipse is symbolic of our shadow self, so ruminate about what “shadow” you want to shine the Leo spotlight on. Cast this spell as the earth passes between the sun and moon. As a shadow creeps across the moon, name it. For example:
“I am afraid of abandonment.”
At the peak of the eclipse, be still. Breathe deeply and simply be with your shadow. Feel it. As light creeps across the moon, identify the shadow’s strength:
“I am autonomous and self-sufficient.”
In the spotlight of the full Quickening Moon, know that your strength is illuminated.
This post was written by Dallas Jennifer Cobb on January 31, 2018
Spell Date: Tuesday, January 30, 2018
With the waxing moon going into Leo today, it’s a good time to consider our relationship with our physical body and how that relates to our health. If we have ailments or illnesses, if we want to head off the colds and flu bug going around our workplace or school, or if we just want to improve our health in general, heartfelt spellwork can help.
Make an herbal charm ( you can even think of it as a medicine bag) by adding healing and vitalizing herbs such as cinnamon, allspice, and ginger, or calming herbs such as lavender, valerian, and hops. Tie the herbs up in a cotton bag of an appropriate color (such as red for healing blood and tissues, pink for lungs, blue to calm emotions, etc.). As you make the charm, visualize yourself in perfect health, your ailment vanished. Wear the charm until you feel better, then release the herbs on the wind.

Heartwings Love Notes 813 Desire can cloud your Perception
Heartwings says, “Your mind may keep you from seeing what is.”
Stephen sounded excited. “Our friend says he got a grant for $300,000. He’s sending me the link.” I was immediately suspicious. “Tell me more,” I replied. Someone he knew had sent Stephen a message from Facebook telling him he could have a large sum of money, no problem, just apply for this grant and it would be his. He went on to say, “I have already receive (sic) my money.” I immediately noticed the incorrect grammar and pointed it out to Stephen. “Oh, he said, probably just a slip of the pen,” he responded. “I do that kind of thing all the time.” I was still suspicious.
We agreed that I would check out this link-it was on Facebook, and so I did. What came up was a woman with a pleasant face and a picture of an audience in an auditorium with a sign on the stage about grants. The woman told me that all I had to do was answer a few questions and the money would be mine. To make a long story short I gave false answers to her questions-all seeking personal information, and was eventually told that I had to send just a little money-the amount depended on how much I would like for my “grant” and I’d be all set.
When I pleaded poverty she asked me how much I could come up with and when I said “nothing” she offered to get me a loan. At that point I deleted the messages, defriended and blocked the site, and reported it. Not to our surprise found out that our friend’s site had been hacked. We were fortunate Stephen believed my suspicions. In my experience you do not receive large sums of money for nothing. However had I been eager to receive it just for signing up for it, I might have been fooled and given out valuable information to crooks.
I am fortunate in that I feel I have sufficient money for my needs, if not for my wants. This makes me less likely to fall into the trap this experience presented. If not, I too might have dismissed this grammatical mistake and perhaps even several others that came with further conversation. It is easy to mislead someone who wants something badly and of course the offer came from someone we know and so seemed much more legitimate that some “prince” from Nigeria or fake lottery winnings that someone is supposedly handing over. However the bottom line is that the eyes with which I regarded this offer were not clouded with the desire to receive it.
May you see clearly if someone is trying to trick you.
Blessings and bests regards, Tasha Halpert

Invocation of Hecate, powerful and beautiful,
THE CALL TO HECATE
Come, the Moon’s path opens before thee-
From thy secret realm dark as midnight seas
Approach the crossroads of wolves, they wild minions
Thou that runs with the fierce, run now with us-
Drive our foes into the dense impassable forests-
Come like a fire blazing as high as if the firmament
Were kindled by the wind’s great power
They will be calmed by the calling of thy name!
Guide of the underworld- of the ancient wisdom
Black as night, red as blood
Wise as time, ever lasting…
Who are the souls mirror and the keeper of the keys
Enter there upon the chamber where infidels
Bear aloft their weapons of war
Strike there with thine eye which penetrates all darkness
And release those who profane the blessed night!
Come, calm all fears of those who are thy children.
In the silvered silence of the moon
In the cries of all passion
In the howls of the wild
Hecate grant us thy presence!
Come, may the darkness dance with the light!
“As the darkness now draws near
See the cycle of the year
As the light now goes within
Let the Hallows dance begin-”

Home Cures For Winter Ills
Tis the season to get sick, but there are some more natural and nutritious things you can add to your drinking schedule that might just help you heal faster, get less sick, and feel better overall.
There are medicinal teas, bitters, and even cocktails that can employ healing elements. It may be the dark months, but you can be the light!
If insomnia is your issue, consider red wine or sangria with cloves.
Feeling blue? Consider champagne with chocolate bitters made with the cacao bean (see bitters below)
The most favorite old fashioned cure-all is the hot toddy: 1/2 c. scotch, 1 lemon, 2 tsp sugar, 4 whole cloves, nutmeg, 1/2 c. boiling water. Peel lemon and put it in the bottom of a glass with sugar. Use a wooden spoon to press it. Set aside for 45 minutes. Now, quarter the lemon and squeeze it into the glass. Now, add whisky, cloves and boiling water. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Grate nutmeg on top.
Think about adding medicinals to your alcohol – utilizing spice and herbs. Rosemary and ginger are my two favs to actually put in beer or make sangria and add to cocktails.
When I made a spiked tea, I use candied ginger in it for flavor and sweetener, but when I’m done drinking it, I eat the ginger for the medicinal help. You can do the same with blueberries in your tea or cranberries. Eat them when done drinking.
Bitters: Alcohol mixed with botanicals to give an essential concentration of the properties and tastes within the plant matter. This can be used for medicinal purposes, cocktails or cooking.
A dozen bitters I have made (above); cinnamon, almonds, cranberries, cloves, ginger, fennel, orange peel, cardamom, mint, basil, rosemary, and cilantro. Drops can be added to tea or water for curative properties and health and vitality or added to cooking for enhanced flavors.
Grain alcohol, mason jars, items you wish to turn into bitters, and I use hibiscus tea leaves – they add the “sour” bitter component nicely. Put a few ounces of the grain alcohol in each jar, add a bunch of the diced items – herbs/spice/root/berry/nut – and then add a tsp of the hibiscus tea leaves. Seal. Sit aside and shake now and then for about 2 weeks. When you open and smell it, it should smell of the item you infused more than the alcohol. Strain. I put them in dark dropper bottles (you can find them on Amazon). It protects them from sunlight’s effects.
These can be used in cocktails, hot teas, or add to water and drink. They give concentrated nutrients, great tastes, and the alcohol makes them relaxing and calming. If I have a cold, I use the parsley and rosemary in my tea to break up mucus. If I have tummy issues, I use ginger or mint. If I am aching all over, I use turmeric for anti-inflammatory response.
Spicy green tea is an herbal tea remedy helpful in aiding immune functions, as well as breaking a fever and soothing a sore throat.. Cayenne and ginger will both increase circulation and sweating, which is often useful in breaking a fever. Moreover, ginger is an effective anti-inflammatory for sore throats, while honey has long been believed to soothe a sore throat. Green tea has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea is also associated with increased immune function and with combating influenza in general. Add to boiling water and steep for at least 20-30 minutes. Strain and drink. I also hang rosemary sprigs or eucalyptus from the shower head to steam up the air a bit with the sinus-clearing properties.
Ginger (either 1 tsp powdered or 1 slice of root)
Add to boiling water and steep 10 mins. Drink 2-3 times a day. Ginger is amazing on queasiness! Mint is great for gassiness, as is fennel. I chew fennel seeds when I have gas issues.
Aches and pains from chilly weather:
Cherries are a natural anti-inflammatory (25 cherries equals about one aspirin in anti-inflammatory effect). Cherry juice is a good one to have on hand if you workout a lot or in the wintertime you are feeling your past injuries, carrot juice is a close second. Green tea is good and if you add turmeric root or turmeric powder (1 tsp), it has amazing anti-inflammatory properties. And, don’t forget having Epsom salts on hand. I get a big bag at the drug store and I put it in a detergent container with an ice scoop to scoop it out. I add scented oils to make it even nicer. The Epsom salts, mag sulfate, is absorbed into the skin and gives good relief.
Properties of spices/herbs
Cinnamon: Mix cinnamon and honey and you get some great antiviral/antibacterial/anti-inflammatory properties. Use organic raw honey if you can. Ceylon cinnamon beats cassia. Mix 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder to 1 tsp honey. Take 2-3 times a day.
Basil: Antibacterial qualities and anti-inflammatory. Good steeped as tea.
Rosemary: Great for scratchy throat, sinus congestion and head pain. Can be used in tea or as gargle.
Ginger: The combo of ginger and cinnamon is a great one for colds.. If you can, use ginger root, ground cinnamon and brown sugar as a tea.
Source: Put 3 cups of water into a sauce pan. Thinly slice (about as thin as a quarter) 1.5-2 inches of fresh ginger One teaspoon of powdered cinnamon Add 1-1.5 tablespoons of brown sugar. Bring to a light boil then turn down and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Turmeric: A truly amazing anti-inflammatory. Try turmeric milk –
Source: 2 cups of milk (or substitute coconut milk) 1 teaspoon dried turmeric (or one-half inch fresh turmeric thinly sliced or diced) 1 teaspoon dried ginger (or one-half inch fresh ginger). Place milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Add turmeric, ginger, and pepper. Stir well if you are using the dried spices. Let the milk begin to simmer – small bubbles will form on the sides of the saucepan. Stir. Allow to heat for another minute or two being careful not to let the milk overheat. Continue to stir at this point to get better heat distribution and so that you don’t end up distracted in your kitchen and end up with boiled turmeric in your burner pans (*cough*). Turn off heat, cover, and allow the mixture to sit for ten minutes or to improve the infusion. Strain the milk through a strainer if you have used fresh ingredients. Serve warm…..
Parsley: Helps kill bacteria, great for ear infections and stomach troubles.
The Magic Wand 5
Becky stood by the living room window watching her brother Jack climb slowly out of his rental. Was he tired? Where was his usual jaunty step, his jocular joi de vivre? His expression was drawn. How could he have aged so much since last summer? Something definitely wasn’t right with her brother.
“Uncle Jack’s here!” David shouted. He rushed down the stairs and into the hall.
At the dining room table doing her homework, Lisa tried to ignore the persistent cawing. The crow was still perched on the curtain rod in the living room.
Hearing David, Todd closed his laptop and left his home office; Lisa gave up and joined the welcoming committee.
Becky embraced Jack. She grinned. “How’s my globetrotting big brother.” She hugged him. He felt thinner to her and somehow frail. There were bags under his eyes.
He hugged Becky back. “Life is so special,” he said.
“Yes, so good to see you. How are you doing?” she took his suitcase and carryon and handed them to Lisa. “Put these in the guest room, will you dear?”
Jack sighed. “We’re all so carefree until some doctor insists on having the last word.”
Becky frowned and was about to respond when Todd rushed over and threw his arms around his brother-in-law.
“Jack,” Todd said. “Welcome.”
“Uncle Jack,” David pushed past his father and hugged his favorite uncle. “My magic wand really works. We got mice and a turkey, a crow Lisa made by waving it, and a big lizard and turtle and Russian jewels at the museum.”
“Shh, David, give Jack a few minutes to relax,” Todd said. “Can I mix you a drink?”
Jack nodded, “yes, for sure.” He looked quizzically at David. “Wait a minute, slow down. What are you talking about?”
Becky responded. “That his Christmas present from you has certainly caused quite a stir. Let’s go into the living room. You must want to sit down and rest from your journey.”
Jack shook his head. “Oh my,” he said. “The shaman told me it had run out of power and that all its magic was used up.”
Todd grimaced and cleared his throat. “Not quite.”
He handed Jack his usual scotch and water. Then he went on to clarify what David had blurted out.
“I find all of this very curious,” Jack began. “I’d like to go over to that museum.”
“Not with us,” Todd said quickly. “The Director never wants to see either of us again. After that fiasco I’ve told David to put the wand away.”
David looked out the window and giggled. “Mom the cat’s back and cuddling with the turkey.”
Becky sighed and smiled. “It’s very complicated. But somehow they seem to have bonded with one another.”
Jack’s eyes widened. “You mean the turkey and the cat?”
Becky nodded. “The cat won’t go home. I’ve tried to shoo it away, and it
runs off but eventually comes back.”
“Just like the mice and Crow Girl’s crow,” David said.
“I heard that,” Lisa said coming into the room. She raised a fist. “I’ll brain you, you little brat.”
“You did it.” David insisted. “You opened my present from Uncle Jack and
waved my wand.”
Todd frowned. “Children! Civility, please.” He turned to Jack. “You must excuse us if we seem under undue stress.”
“I can imagine,” Jack said. “And I’m terribly sorry. Believe me if I had any idea that the wand ‘s magic power had persevered I’d never have sent it.”
“You mean you thought it ran out of magic,” Becky said.
Jack nodded. “So I was told, and so the shaman believed. He’d used it
to provide food for his tribe and to perform healing.”
“Fascinating,” Becky said. “”Since Christmas I’ve become a believer.”
“We all have,” Lisa said. She frowned and made a face at David. “I just don’t want any of my friends coming over.”
Jack looked puzzled and sighed. “I didn’t mean to make a problem, I only thought it would make a fine addition to David’s collection.”
“Perhaps something recharged its batteries somehow. Maybe coming to another country…” Todd said.
“Or maybe it just needed more time to recoup,” Jack said. “I still find this whole experience to be amazing.”
“That’s because Lisa waved the wand.” David giggled. He looked at his sister and whispered “Crow Girl. Crow Girl.”
“I’ll break your face,” Lisa hissed.
“You two stop. Either be calm or go to your rooms.” Todd looked at them sternly.
“Tell him about the museum, daddy,” David said.
Jack shook his head. “All this is a lot to take in. I’ll have a refill if you don’t mind.” He held out his glass to Todd.
“Uncle Jack,” David asked. “When you were in Africa did you ever meet Albert Schweitzer?”
Jack laughed. “A little before my time David.”
“Oh,” he looked disappointed. “I thought you knew everyone.”
“Maybe in my next lifetime,” Jack said. Again Becky noticed his wry expression. She gathered up her courage and when Todd came back with Jack’s drink, she spoke her mind. “All right big brother tell your little sister what’s going on?”
Jack noticed the crow had come into the room and was perched on the bookcase. It seemed to be peering down at him.
“Fess up,” Becky pushed.
Jack nodded and sipped his drink. “Three months ago I had my annual physical. And to make a long story short after a few tests the big C word came up.”
Tears filled Becky’s eyes. “No. That’s not possible. You’re too healthy.”
Jack got up and hugged her. “I agree but modern medicine oft times seems to have the last word. I’ve started chemo, which is horrendous to endure.”
“Any timetable,” Todd asked?
“Doctors said stage three whatever that means. But you never can tell how fast it can spread.” He sipped his drink. “I’m living each day glad to be here… Fortunately I’m still functional and compos mentis.”
Todd nodded. “You’ll be continuing the chemo?”
Jack nodded. “In a few weeks after I get back to Key West.”
Becky looked upset. “Not here using medical facilities in Boston? You could live here with us and I’d drive you into town.”
Jack shook his head. He grinned wryly. “You don’t want me decomposing in your guest room.” He sighed. “I love you all too much to impose anything like that on you. Remember I’ve a comfortable condo in Key West.”
“Right near where Hemingway lived,” Becky said. “See? I remember from your letters.”
“What’s the big C daddy?” Jack asked.
Todd looked uncomfortable and didn’t answer.
“It’s cancer, David,” Jack said. “It means something’s eating up my lungs and sapping my vitality.” His face grew solemn. “Don’t you ever, ever smoke, David,” he said.
Becky started to cry. “I’m sorry. I don’t want this to happen. I want you with us always.”
“Uncle Jack’s dying?” Tears filled David’s eyes. He jumped up and ran upstairs.
“I’m sorry,” Jack said. “I didn’t mean to upset him.”
David ran back into the room. He held the wand and waved it over Uncle Jack. “Please make Uncle Jack all better from cancer,” he said waving it forcefully.
Todd was about to say something and then stopped. Lisa and Becky’s eyes grew wide. As they all watched, Jack’s color changed. His eyes began blinking and he started gasping for breath.
Todd began to get up and go over to him, but Becky shook her head. “No wait,” she said.
Jack’s breathing quieted and he sat up straighter. He rubbed his chest. “My body feels so warm,” he said. Then his eyes widened. “I can breath freely again.”
Todd, Becky, Lisa and David gathered around him. Becky took his hand. Jack looked at them. “I can’t explain it but something shifted in me. I feel my old self again. Something big’s changed. Thank you David.”
At that moment the crow flew down from the bookcase. It cawed, pecked several times at the top of Uncle Jack’s head and disappeared.

In order to make our dreams come true, we must take action rather than simply wishing for what we want.
There is a popular misconception that we might be able to just wish our dreams into being. Maybe on some other level of consciousness this is the case, but here on earth what we need to do is take action in our lives. Vision is an important companion to our efforts, but it can’t accomplish anything all by itself. When we focus on what we want and ask for what we want, we are initiating a conversation with the universe. Our desires, passionately defined and expressed, bring about valuable and relevant opportunities, which we then respond to by either taking or leaving them.
Many of us are afraid to step out into the world and make things happen, and so we hang back, dreaming and waiting and watching. There are times in life when this is the right thing to do, but this phase of inaction must eventually give way to its opposite if we are to build our dreams into a reality. This can be really scary, and we may fail and struggle, but that’s okay because that’s what we’re supposed to do. Waiting for everything to be perfect before we act, or waiting for what we want to be handed to us, leaves us waiting forever. No one expects us to be perfect, so the best thing we can do for ourselves is to get out there and take action on our dreams.
One of the hardest parts about having a vision is that when we test it in the laboratory of life, it often comes out looking completely different than what we had in mind or, worse, it doesn’t come out at all. If you read the life stories of people who have brought their dreams into reality, you will hear many stories about this experience. But you will also hear about hard work, taking action, perseverance, and, finally, the successful birthing of a dream.

Like birds flying in a “V,” when we feel the presence of others moving along side of us, there is little we cannot accomplish.
As they swoop, drift, and glide, inscribing magnificent patterns across the sky, birds are serene displays of grace and beauty. Long a source of inspiration, birds can be messengers from the spirit realm, or a symbol of the human soul, as they cast off their earthly mooring and soar heavenward. An upturned wing, a graceful flutter, all so effortless and free… More magnificent still is the inspiring sight of birds migrating, progressing steadily across the horizon in a solid V formation that is a singular pattern too unique to be mere chance.
Pushing steadily forward, this aerodynamic V reduces air resistance for the whole flock. With wings moving in harmony, the feathered group continues its course across the sky, covering more ground together in community than as individuals. When the bird at the front gets tired, she will move to the rear of the formation where the wind drag is lowest, and a more rested bird can take her place.
By learning from the example of our winged guides, all of us can feel empowered to take on daring challenges as we chart adventurous courses. Feel the strength of others moving alongside you, as their presence lends power to your wings during this journey across the sky of life. When buffeted by unexpected gusts, we can choose to find refuge in the loving shelter of friends and family. We may even marvel as an otherwise difficult day passes by like a swift wind, as a kindred spirit charts a way for us through the clouds and rain ahead. If your wings begin to ache on your journey, look around for somebody else to fly at the front for a while. All of us move faster when we move together. Let your ego drop earthwards as we all soar ever higher.
