Llewellyn’s Spell of the Day

Sacred Sexuality
Spell Date: Sunday, November 26, 2017

Times change and social standards change. What was risqué twenty years ago is old hat today, as we as a society work to heal what patriarchy, misogyny, and Christianity did to sex.

Today, celebrate sex as sacred and make time to get in touch with your own sacred sexuality. Spend time alone caring for your body— moisturizing, shaving, massaging, and pampering. As you do so, let yourself come alive in your own sexuality, fantasizing and dreaming about sacred sex—not the type of sex that you have been told is correct by society and not what you see on TV or in magazines, but your own deep desires: sensual and sexual.

Put on soft clothing and dance alone in front of a mirror while invoking the goddesses of sacred sexuality: Aphrodite, Inanna, Magdalene, and Lilith. Know how lovely you are.

Savings Spell
Spell Date: Saturday, November 25, 2017

Are you one of those people who has trouble saving things— money, for instance? Or maybe you find yourself wasting time and would like to manage it better. Maybe you can’t seem to stop at just one brownie. If you need help making things last, here’s a spell to help you conserve.

Find something to use as a symbol of what you wish to save. You could use a coin to represent money or a clock to symbolize time, or use a picture of the object. Designate a place where you will store the symbol— a special box, for example. Visualize managing this item, and see your desired outcome. Keep the box in a place where you can see it but not easily reach it, such as on a high shelf. Use these words to seal the spell:

“Help me manage, help me save,
Conserve the item that I crave.
Keep this resource safe and sound,
So there’s enough to go around.”

Write a Letter to Santa
Spell Date: Friday, November 24, 2017

Today is traditionally the beginning of the holiday season. Santa Claus, with his Pagan origins, is the spirit of generosity. He lets us be in touch with our inner child, and ask for what we want from a place of innocence. On your altar, set up the following items:

* The Nine of Cups card (the “wish card”) from a tarot deck
* A pen
* A sheet of paper
* A stamped envelope
* Symbols of the four elements (for example, a feather for air, a candle for fire, a cup of water for water, and a stone for earth)
* An image of Santa

Meditate on the Nine of Cups card, asking yourself what is it you truly want.

Touch the pen, paper, and envelope to each elemental symbol, saying:

“By (air/fire/water/earth), may gifts
come to me when they are asked for
by my true self.”

Begin your letter by writing “Dear Santa,” and ask for sincerely desired gifts. Let go of any wishes that are momentary, faddish, or whimsical. Consider what you really want and need. Seal the letter in the envelope, saying:

So mote it be!

Mail the letter to Santa at the North Pole.

Southern Welcome
Spell Date: Thursday, November 23, 2017

The pineapple has long been a sign of hospitality and generosity in the Southern United States. Bring that symbolism, and its attendant energies, into your own home.

For this spell, you’ll need an image of a pineapple (I found my pineapple mandala online) and your favorite coloring tools. You’ll also need a frame. As you color your image, mentally see your home as more open and welcoming, a place where friends old and new enjoy hanging out. When finished, frame your picture and hang it near the door to your home. Anoint the edges of the frame monthly with a welcoming oil, such as lemon.

A Happy Holidays Charm
Spell Date: Wednesday, November 22, 2017

The holiday season can be full of fun or turmoil, often both. We have many tasks to do, and most of us spend time with our families. It helps to get a handle on the hectic times with some common sense and a little magic. Here are some practical tips.

Plan your schedule in advance. Make your most important commitments first, then plan around them. Take breaks as needed. Do fun things with family. Remember, it’s okay to say no.

For this spell, you will need a strand of thread and some mixed beads, with which you can make a bracelet or other charm. Choose a bead for each of your relatives. As you thread each bead onto the strand, picture a happy memory with that person and concentrate on making happiness the focus of your time together. When you finish stringing all the beads, knot the strand and keep it with you.

Summon a Spirit Spell
Spell Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2017

This spell will help you communicate with the deceased. You should perform this ritual with respect. You’ll need some white sage, a small bell, a magic mirror, and a white candle in a holder. Begin by casting a protective circle and burning the sage. On a table or altar, place the bell, mirror, and candle. Light the candle and gently ring the bell three times. Call the deceased by name, and ask if they’d contact you through the mirror. Say:

“(Name of the deceased),
if you can leave death’s gentle embrace,
Please show me your face.”

The mirror may mist over, then watch for the deceased’s face to appear. They may look younger than you remember. Quietly ask any questions; their responses will be gestures. Then thank them and let them go. Ring the bell again, clear the circle, and snuff out the candle. If this didn’t work, try again. Keep your sessions short.

Good Sleep Spell
Spell Date: Monday, November 20, 2017

Many of us struggle to get a decent night’s sleep. It can be hard to turn off our brain after a long and hectic day. It can sometimes help to tuck a lavender pillow under your pillow. You can write out this spell and put it inside one, or say it right before bed:

“Gentle goddess of the night,
Who fades the day and dims the light,
Grant me safe and peaceful rest
That I might rise again refreshed
With naught but gentle peaceful dreams,
Cradled in your moon’s soft beams.”

The Wonderful Jacket
Posted on November 26, 2017

Those of us who come from New England are familiar with Yankee thrift: use it up, make do, or do without. I am of a conserving nature, having in addition to a Yankee father, a German mother born at the outset of WWI. Nothing was ever wasted in the house I grew up in. I thrived on hand-me-downs and thrift shop finds. Over the years I have accumulated clothing items I am happy to see again when their season rolls around. I often develop a fondness for clothing that has served me well.

Recently as I pushed my wagon through the aisles of a grocery store, I saw a woman standing by the meat counter in a unique and lovely white furry jacket. “I can’t resist telling you I think your jacket is magnificent,” I told her. She laughed and said it was from the 70’s, yet she could never bear to part with it. “Nor should you,” I replied. We each continued on our way, pushing our shopping carts in opposite directions.

I smiled to myself. I was wearing a jacket I have had for close to thirty years. It is a fairly ordinary, black, nylon one, with some very useful pockets. Black fur edges the hood. It is warm and comfortable, and probably unremarkable as jackets go. However the story of how I acquired it and what has been done to it since makes it special.

On a trip to the Cape many years ago, Stephen and I were in a consignment shop, poking around. I saw the jacket hanging on a rack, and figured I might be able to use it. I took it down, intending to try it on. “If you can zip it up you can have it,” said the woman behind the counter. I looked down at the zipper and saw that it was slightly frayed on the bottom and could be a bit challenging. When I tried it on I liked the feel of the jacket and resolved to see if indeed I could zip it.

Very carefully I inserted the frayed end into the metal slot and continued to be careful as I zipped it all the way up. The saleswoman was good at her word and gave me the jacket without charge. In the ensuing years I went on zipping it up carefully until finally one year I invested in a new zipper. Along the way parts of the jacket lining began to wear out. I was fortunate in having friends who at different times were able to repair the worn places in the lining so that it looked almost new.

Now when I put on my wonderful warm winter jacket I remember my friends and their generous work on my behalf. I also think how fortunate I was to have found it, been able to zip it up and to have it still after all these many years. What keeps me warm in it is more than the lining or the material, it is the memories and the love of friends that has been sewn into it. How could I ever part with this jacket? I believe I never could, nor do I ever wish to.

The Gratitude Project

This is a self awareness exercise. I started this in my practice in New York City over 15 years ago. It has always been an offering to my patients who come in during the week of Thanksgiving for treatment. I would ask them to take home this handout and to fill it out in their private time. If they were interested in doing a little self attunement exercise, this would be the ideal time, as we can be more conscious of the benefits we receive in our lives.
At this time in my life, things maybe going great or they may not be the best. Regardless, TODAY I am grateful for:

1. ___________________________________
My life is full of hidden blessings. I will name three of them I may have forgotten:
1. ___________________________________
2. ___________________________________
3. ___________________________________
I was able to eat today. I am thankful to have food to eat today because:
1. ___________________________________
I woke up in good health today. I am so grateful for this because:
1. ___________________________________
I may not have woken up in the best state of health today, yet I cannot be more thankful because:
1. ___________________________________
I am most grateful for three people in my life. Who are they and why?
1. ___________________________________
2. ___________________________________
There has always been a song or piece of music in my life that I have been very grateful for because:
Name of song: _________________________
1. ____________________________________
I have command of my senses today. I am eternally grateful for each one of them, as there are some who do not have the ability to use them. I am grateful for each one of them in this way:
Sight: _________________________________
Hearing: _______________________________
Taste: _________________________________
Touch: _________________________________
Smell: _________________________________

My happiness depends on:
The path of my life depends on:

I hope that this exercise in self awareness has been a helpful one and I thank you for taking the time to be a part of it for yourself.

Laboring Under A Label
By Madisyn Taylor
Many of us find ourselves laboring under a label that has a negative connotation, but this can be reversed.
We live in a culture that uses labels as a means of understanding the world and the people living in it. As a result, many of us find ourselves laboring under a label that has a negative connotation. Unless we can find a way to see the good in such a label, we may feel burdened by an idea of ourselves that is not accurate. It is important to remember that almost nothing in this world is all good or all bad, and most everything is a complex mixture of gifts and challenges. In addition, different cultures revere certain qualities over others, but this does not mean that these qualities are inherently good or bad. For example, a culture that elevates outgoing behavior will label an introvert in a negative way, calling them antisocial. In truth, the ability to spend time alone is one that most great artists, mystics, and visionaries share. Owning the positive side of this label can lead us deeper into our gifted visions and fertile imaginations.

When we look into the lives of any of the great people in history, we always find that they had quirks and eccentricities that earned them less than ideal labels from the societies in which they lived. Many famous artists and musicians were considered to be isolated loners or disruptive troublemakers, or sometimes both, yet these people altered history and contributed to the world an original vision or advances in our understanding of the universe. If we can remember this as we examine our own selves and the labels people use to describe us, we find that there is a bright side to any characterization.

If you have been labeled, remember that all you have to do to see the positive side is to turn the label around. For example, you may be considered to be overly emotional, and the fact that you are perceived this way may make you feel out of control. But notice, too, the gifts of being able to feel and express your emotions, even in a world that doesn’t always encourage that. You might begin to see yourself as brave and open-hearted enough to stay alive to your feelings. You may also see that there are certain paths and professions in which this is a necessary ability. As you turn your label around, the light of your true nature shines to guide you on your way.

Stephen Halpert
Magee and the Haunted Mansion 9

We were headed back to town. Mallory was driving, Sippi beside him. Blackie and I were in the back. Sippi usually put two comfy pillows and a blanket across her back seat. That made snuggling even more comfortable.
But sadly we were in his cruiser not Sippi’s. Mallory’s back seat was littered with papers and police stuff and smelt of old coffee and burnt cigars.
Sippi turned to Mallory. “She’s sweet on you.”
“That blond on the motorcycle.”
‘Oh Heidi Croft.” He smiled. Sippi noticed a momentary far away look in his eyes. “We go back to high school. But she’s much too flirty for me to take an interest in.”
Sippi smirked. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
. Mallory shrugged. “Heidi Croft always lived in the fast lane. She liked being taken to roadhouses to go dancing for Pete’s sake.” He sighed. “My wife Mildred, on the other hand was quiet and adoring. She tended to her knitting and waited patiently while I was working my way up the ranks, before I could afford to pop the question.” He shook his head and sighed again.
Sippi chuckled, and reiterated. “She’s still sweet on you Chief. And now you’re older and more eligible. Why my Aunt Bea thinks that for a man of your years you’re a looker, and she’s got good taste in men.”
Mallory turned to Sippi and frowned. “Don’t start! Heidi Croft isn’t the sort of women who appreciates the quiet life like I do. For heaven’s sake Bopp, that woman still enters motorcycle rallies and wins marksmanship medals from the NRA. She not exactly the apple pie type.”
“That’s just conjecture. You don’t know anything about her.” Sippi resisted a smile. “Except you’re afraid after a while she’d start bossing you around.”
Mallory snorted, and his lips thinned into a grim line.
Sippi smirked. “You wait Chief. A few Sunday dinners with all the fixings and you might be singin’ a different tune.”
He shook his head again. “What are you talking about? I’m still married to Mildred’s spirit. Another woman in my life now would just complicate things– upset the apple cart.”
Sippi lowered her voice. “You’ve been a widower for close to ten years. These days older women appreciate a man like you who’ll help them take care of things.”
His face reddened. “Bopp I’m close to retirement. Then my life will change and I won’t have to take care of anything ever again.”
“Why are you questioning me? You make me feel like an anti social reprobate.”
Sippi chuckled and kept silent.
“If you must know I’m looking forward to going fishing, waking up when I’m good and ready, and not have to kowtow to anyone, especially not to a woman who wants me pulling her plow.”
I yawned. All that talk was boring. Blackie wiggled closer to me, put her paw over mine. Then she sent me a scary thought. I saw Heidi holding a gun.
Blackie yawned and licked my nose.
I felt uncomfortable. Everything about this case confused me. Why the ghosts? What’s up with that? And what about that mysterious rat that had disappeared before our eyes?
Blackie touched my paw again. Her thoughts told me that the ghosts were attached to something in the mansion that kept them drawn to the ruins.
Mallory parked and we all gathered in his office. Raven spread photographs and info sheets of the three escaped prisoners across the worktable in Chief Mallory’s office.
He looked at Sippi and pointed to a photograph. “Happy Boy Fritz. We know he’s dead but not much more.” He pointed to the corpse in the Chevy. “Except he was a mule for drug cartels.”
“Might have been shot because he knew too much,” Sippi said.
Raven nodded. Then he pointed to a blond headed man who looked familiar. “This one’s Roderick Croft. He’s a convicted pyromaniac. Serving a life sentence for incinerating several tenement buildings in New Jersey.”
Sippi nodded. “He and Heidi Croft could be related, similar facial features.”
Then Raven looked serious. “The third escapee is Hedgling Wilson, a killer serving several life sentences. Report here says he’s delusional and homicidal.”
Sippi frowned. “He’s the dangerous one. Look at his eyes. Could be the one who started firing at us from the Chevy last Sunday night. I wonder what brought him together with Croft.”
“The treasure,” Mallory said. “Seems that it’s buried somewhere on Croft property. That’s what Heidi Croft indicated.”
Raven nodded. “In which case he’s a hired gun working for Croft, possibly his bodyguard.”
Mallory shook his head. “I’d like to know a lot more about Roderick Croft.” His device rang. “Mallory,” he answered abruptly, then after a moment he said, “Good work! Get recognizance photos to me.” He closed his device and turned to us. “Apparently there are two cabins in the deepest part of the woods. Let’s go have a look.”
Three state officers including Sergeant Hacksaw met us at the edge of the wood with vehicles. He didn’t appear pleased at seeing Blackie and me. He looked at us and his lips twitched into something like a sneer. “Can’t your Selectmen afford real canines trained in police work? Why do you have to settle for lap dogs?”
Mallory chuckled. “I can’t speak for the little spaniel yet. She’s new at the job. But Magee’s got an uncanny sense for what’s important. You’ll be surprised.”
Hacksaw mumbled something under his breath and we climbed into a small open police vehicle not much bigger than a golf cart. The Sergeant and Mallory sat in front. Raven and Sippi sat close behind them. Blackie and me were on Sippi and Raven’s laps. A second police cart with three patrolmen followed behind us.
The brush was thick. The narrow path into the wood was barely passable. Branches and shrubs brushed against the carts.
After we had been on that path for about a mile, Blackie cringed against Sippi. “What are you telling me sweetheart?” Sippi whispered. Blackie made soft growls that almost sounded like words.
Raven noticed. “She’s trying to tell you something.”
“But what?” Sippi said.
Then that horrible scent filled the air. I made noises and tried to pull away. Something was very wrong.
That’s when the shooting started. Hacksaw’s cart swerved into the brush. Mallory drew his pistol and jumped out. “Take cover,” he said.
There was more gunfire. A state policeman screamed and fell to the ground, his leg bloody.
“Follow me,” Blackie thought. She scurried into the brush. I was right beside her. We had run only a little way when we saw a clearing and then a large boulder. There was a man perched on it. He was aiming a rifle with a scope. Beside him was a pack of cigarettes, a lighter and several boxes of bullets

No Going Back
By Madisyn Taylor

Sometimes during our spiritual growth we can feel as if we are going backwards, rest assured you are not.
There are times when we feel that we are spinning our wheels in the mud in terms of our spiritual progress. This can be especially true following a period of major growth in which we feel as if we’ve gained a lot of ground. In fact, this is the way growth goes–periods of intense forward movement give way to periods of what seems like stagnation. In those moments when we feel discouraged, it’s helpful to remember that we don’t ever really go backward. It may be that we are at a standstill because there is a new obstacle in our paths, or a new layer to get through, but the hard work we have done cannot be undone.

Every step on the path is meaningful, and even one that seems to take us backward is a forward step in the sense that it is what we must do to move to the next level. In addition, an intense growth spurt requires that we rest for a time in order to fully integrate the new energies that have been liberated by our hard work. When we feel we are not making progress, we can encourage ourselves to take a moment to rest. We can meditate more, feed ourselves well, and get extra sleep. Before we know it, we will be spurred on to work toward the next level of our development, and this rest will make sense then as something we needed in order to continue.

Once the sun rises, it doesn’t go backward but instead follows its path in one direction. It may appear to stand still for a moment in time, or to move more slowly at some point or another, but really it is steadily moving forward on its path. We are the same way, and once we have moved through something we can never really go back. We may be resting or revisiting issues that seem old, and it’s natural to feel stuck, but in truth we are always taking the next important step forward on our path.

About The Morning Feast and – The teachings here are based
on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not
separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the
ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman
is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the
tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
