Today is the quasquicentennial of the founding of the Sierra Club. Created in the US 125 years ago by John Muir, this organization is dear to many Pagans, as it celebrates a love of the earth and nature. Protection and cleaning are also built into group activities.
The weather today is likely to be temperate no matter where you live. Contact your local Sierra Club chapter, gather your family, friends, and/or coven, and volunteer for a local cleaning/ beautifying project. If that is not an option, you could take a walk in nature or putter in your own garden. Make it as complicated or as simple as you choose, keeping in mind our precious natural resources. Before and after, recite the following:
“Our Earth is a finite resource, Loaned, not owned. Guide us in the best care of it. Bless our efforts.”
A Magic Cup Spell
Spell Date: Saturday, May 27, 2017
This spell will help wishes come true.
* A coffee or tea cup with a saucer
* A drop of olive oil
* A pen and paper
Wash the cup out three times with the saltwater. Then bless the cup by rubbing the olive oil around the inside of the cup. Write your wish on the paper. Fold the paper, place it inside the cup, and cover the cup with the saucer. Leave the cup and saucer on your altar until the wish comes to you. Then burn the paper. You may use the cup and saucer again for other spellwork, but only use it for magic.

A Friend Spell
Spell Date: Friday, May 26, 2017
Nothing is better than having a good friend. Sometimes our best friend is just waiting for us to open up and let them in.
This spell works with symbols. Opening up can be symbolized by a flower bud. You also need to be comfortable with who you are. Comfort symbols can be a good chair or a pillow. And in a good friend relationship, there is talking and there is listening. Both of these require silence on the part of one person or the other.
Set up your space with these symbols: a quiet space, a comfortable chair or pillow, and a flower bud to open yourself. Work a list of values that you would look for in a friend and that a friend would find to value in you. Seek these things out when you meet people, and remember to share with them those things that you would like others to value in you.

Tarot Postcard Oracle
Spell Date: Thursday, May 25, 2017
For this spell, use an old tarot deck or procure one from a used bookstore. Divide the deck into trumps and pips. Artfully glue each of the twenty-two trumps onto a fitting postcard. Decorate each postcard with symbols, interpretations, and the mythic associations of the card. Be sure to include your own message on the back. Place each postcard inside of an individual envelope with two random pips, then mix up all the envelopes. Finally, hand-deliver your twenty-two oracle posts to random people you encounter throughout the weekend. Inquire with care regarding accuracy.

A Magickal Shield
For millennia, people have identified themselves and traced their lineages through heraldic shields, coats of arms, flags, and other symbolic creations.
Designing your own magickal shield strengthens your magickal identity and can be used for magickal workings as well. Start by making some notes: Who are you in terms of earth? Air? Fire? Water? What kinds of magick do you work with? What do you value? What symbols and numbers are significant to you? What colors?
Use a large piece of cardboard, fabric, or even plywood—with one quadrant each for earth, air, fire, and water and a central area for spirit. With paint, pens, wood burner, or your media of choice, design each section according to the notes you made. Keep revising and tweaking until your shield is finished. Bless it with salt, smudge, and pure water. Display it proudly in your sanctum, and consider using it as an altarpiece as well.

Who doesn’t delight in finding a ladybug in their garden? These mysterious little creatures evoke joy in everyone from the smallest child to the oldest adult. Ladybugs are aggressive eaters of pests, specifically aphids, which makes them a welcome addition to any garden. You can buy packets of ladybugs for your garden from any nursery or garden supply store. Just be sure to release them in the cool hours of the early morning.
Tuesdays are dedicated to the planet Mars, so they are good days for matters of passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Two of the colors associated with Tuesday are red and black, making this a great day for a ladybug blessing:
“Ladybug, creature of red and black, May your belly be full and know no lack. Protect my garden and keep it free From all pests, three times three!”

Spell Date: Monday, May 22, 2017
When we think of cleansing and clearing, it’s usually a physical object or a place—but how often do we try to clear ourselves of emotional baggage? Try this ritual as a kind of reset button for your emotions.
Make a list of things you’ve been worrying about—for example, finances, an employment situation, health concerns, relationships, etc. As you write down each worry, imagine you are setting it aside for a while. You don’t have to worry about it or think about it at all—at least not until you’re ready.
Fold the piece of paper and place a piece of black tourmaline on top of it. You can also use a clear quartz point. Leave this on your altar as long as you wish. Chant:
“Things that cause me worry,
rest beneath this stone,
Help to ease the burden
’til I can face it on my own.”
When you feel the spell is complete, destroy the paper and cleanse the stone.

Heartwings Love Notes 778: A Memorial Day Remembrance
Heartwings says, “We honor our departed when we carry on their good work.”
My father’s father died in World War One, when my dad was six years old. I can still see the picture of him that was always on top of our piano in a old fashioned frame. Tinted brown, it showed a tall man in an army officer’s uniform wearing riding boots—he was in the Calvary, standing opposite a small boy in a sailor suit saluting his father. It may have been the last picture ever taken of him. My grandmother never remarried but raised my father and his brother alone.
My father was a colorful character who dressed as he chose and did things the way he wanted to. Although he didn’t care too much what others thought, he was also in certain ways a traditional person. Every Sunday he attended the Episcopal Church where he had grown up. There my grandmother had endowed a stained glass window dedicated to her late husband. On the rare occasions I attended it with him as a child I would gaze entranced at the light shining through the knight in armor with the various emblems surrounding him.
There was a square in the center of town that was dedicated to my grandfather. He was a hero who been awarded a medal posthumously. Each Memorial Day the parade of marchers would stop there and a member from the American Legion would place a wreath of leaves on the hook beneath his name. My grandmother and later my father would add a big bunch of red carnations. I remember one year my father lifted me up so I could do it. Each year we went as a family for the ceremony.
Buried too far away for me to tend or decorate his grave, his body lies in a cemetery on the Cape where many of his ancestors lived and worked. His several times great grandfather even started a newspaper there that is still publishing. My father’s simple boulder with a brass plaque, his unique choice for his headstone stands out among the more traditional gravestones of his ancestors and other members of his family. He was an individualist to the end.
On this Memorial Day as always I honor my late father in my heart. When I donate to a charity I know he would have given to, when I pray in my own fashion for the good of others, and when I emulate his kind nature and unique sense of fashion, I am honoring his memory. I cannot place flowers on his grave nor can I tend it as I would if I lived nearby; I can honor his memory in my own way by how I live my life in the way he taught me to do.
May this Memorial Day bring you treasured memories to enjoy.
Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Domestic Tranquility: Box of Candy
We finished dinner and Tasha joined me in the living room. She looked at the coffee table. “Where’s that box of candy that was here? I think I’d like a piece.”
“You mean the two pound box of rum soaked dark chocolate cherry nut truffles that the Throckmortons sent us?”
“Yes,” she nodded. “I thought it would be nice to have one.” Her eyes roved the room.
I giggled. “I ate them.”
She blinked. “All of them? All two pounds!” A glint of amazement fluttered in her eyes.
I smiled. “I was doing us a favor. Helping us to avoid temptation. How could we ever seriously think of losing any weight with them tempting us each time we walked past the box?”
Her face was a study in shock. “You just sat down and ate them all like a grilled cheese sandwich?”
I shook my head. “Oh no! I showed way more discipline than that, I stretched it out for at least a couple of days.”
“You devoured a two pound box of candy in a couple of days?” She sighed and shook her head.
“Well we’ve been exercising! Doing the walk away the pounds DVD and I figured finishing them up would be a proper way to kick off our serious effort toward staying thin. You told me we needed to lose a bit of weight so we’d look nice at the beach this summer.”
nd you think eating all that candy will help?”
“I smiled. “Absolutely.”
She tilted her head and raised her eyebrows. “Mind telling me how?”
“I can’t exactly put it into words but its Biblical. You know– feast before the great trudge across the dessert to the Promised Land.”
“What I find truly amazing is that all that sugar hasn’t made you ill.”
“Not in the least! There was pistachio marzipan in the bottom layer. Incredibly delicious! Actually I gave you one.”
“Yes you put it on my desk and said if I didn’t want it you’d finish it off.”
“You liked it then?”
“Of course I liked it! Who wouldn’t! It was scrumptious and I was hoping for more.” She sighed. “Do you have any idea how many thousands of calories you ingested?”
“But that’s exactly why I ate them. The only way I can drop any weight is feast or famine.”
She looked at me and shook her head. Have you weighed yourself lately? You’re far from being a victim of famine.”
I smiled again. “Oh I’m the first to admit you’re an incredibly good cook. I’m only talking about excessively delicious comfort food, like exquisitely rich imported candy.”
“Well that’s good to hear. At least your dietary consciousness seems somewhat on the upturn.”
“And think how long we’ve been avoiding artery clogging fast food restaurants!”
“And I suppose avoiding what any sane person knows isn’t good for them can make one feel proud!” Was there a tinge of sarcasm in her voice?
“My eating that candy was making a supreme sacrifice. You must understand that I ate it for both our waistlines.”
“Of course you did,” she smiled. “You know, I hardly eat any candy at all. Although occasionally I think it’s nice to enjoy a piece. And I see nothing wrong with us having a treat now and then,… in moderation.”
“You’re upset I devoured them aren’t you?”
She shook her head. “Me upset! I just want you to last.” She said emphatically. “But I suppose if that was your last hurrah till your birthday cake. Then perhaps it was worth while.”
“What do you mean my last hurrah?”
“That now you’ll avoid all temptation. Limit your between meal snacks to a cup of green tea. Exhibit incredible self discipline!”
“That’s the idea.” I smiled.
“Good!” She got up and walked into the kitchen. She opened a cupboard door and extracted a colorfully decorative box.
“Where’d that come from?”
“My cousin in Seattle. Her annual Spring gift. She sends them every year, remember?” Then she opened the box of Southern Praline Pecans and took one for herself. “I’d offer you one, but I know how dedicated you are now to losing weight and I wouldn’t want to burden you with unnecessary temptation.”
They were jumbo pecans thickly covered in a buttery brown sugar praline coating. I remembered them from last year. An old family in Georgia had guarded this secret recipe since before the Civil War. My mouth watered. “Those look absolutely delicious. Maybe just one or two?”
“But wouldn’t that be contradictory to what you said about kicking off a genuine effort at weight loss.”
“That was only a figure of speech. Besides, all my clothes still fit me.”
“It was you who brought it up.” She took another one, held it and admired it as thought it were a rare gem. Then she nibbled a little off the end and sighed softly. “I suppose if you want one.”
“We all have the right to be contradictory, especially around treats. It’s the American way. Why it’s a natural part of our human nature. Matter of fact if we weren’t occasionally contradictory no doubt we’d be considered dull.”
She opened the box. Their lusciousness glistened. I started to reach for them. With a smile she moved the box away and handed me two. Then she closed it. “Don’t look for these in the cupoard,” she said. “I’m going to hide them.”
“Why bother? We share everything, especially candy.”
“Yes, and I will share them with you, maybe one or two at a time, tomorrow or the next day.” And with a smile she left the room and went into the bedroom holding the box as though it were full of precious gems.
Spending Time in Nature
By Madisyn Taylor
Because we instinctively know that nature is good for us on many levels, it’s not unusual to feel powerfully drawn to it.
In this modern age, we spend so much time indoors, focused on the busyness of our lives and disconnected from the earth. But much of what we truly need can only be found under the naked sky, alongside tall trees, on open plains, or in the sound of running water. Spending time in nature allows us to commune with other living beings and to find comfort in the nurturing embrace of Mother Earth. You can’t help but experience a different sense of self while walking in a wood or traversing a mountainside. Being in nature connects us to the earth, grounding us as we walk, unhindered by concrete, upon her. Surrounded by other living beings, both bigger and smaller than we are, we remember that human beings are simply one form of life in this vast universe.
Because we instinctively know that nature is good for us on many levels, it’s not unusual to feel powerfully drawn to it. Even if you live in a city or find it difficult to travel to a forest or the countryside, there are a myriad ways to reconnect with nature. When you step out of your door each morning, pause for a minute and close your eyes long enough to let your senses absorb your surroundings. Listen and breathe deeply, until you hear the wind rustling through branches, smell rain on damp grass, and see the reflection of leaves brushing up against windowpanes. If you have time, crouch down and closely examine any nearby grass and soil. The sights, sounds, smells, and sensations we experience that are part of nature can remind us of all the gifts Mother Earth grants us each day.
Spending time connecting with nature nourishes the soul, reminds you that you are never truly alone, and renews you by attuning you to the earth’s natural rhythms. Taking a walk under the stars or feeling the wind on your face may be all it takes for you to reconnect with nature. Remember, you are as much a part of nature as are the leaves on a tree or water bubbling in a brook.
Mookaite: The Grounding Stone of Self-Healing
Properties: This is the grounding stone of self healing. It centers and roots our etheric energies to Earth. Mookaite physically stabilizes and fortifies our ego, balance emotions and assists with mirroring energy (reflecting back what you need to see.) Therefore, the stone’s coloring associates it with the lower Chakra including the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus. Use this stone when you are trying to make a specific decision. Mookaite allows one to be more flexible and therefore, have a new perspective, perception or focus. Its grounding qualities allow for this “awareness of new ideas” as well as the ability to execute it. The warmer the colors (reds, oranges, yellows), the more like an old comforting friend this stone can be to you. When the stone has more yellow to beige tones, it brings more empowerment and strength. These stones help build self esteem. Since it is a grounding stone, it works well when we are dealing with fearful situation or feel we need a little protection. Consider this stone as a meditation stone as mookaite promotes inner calm while simultaneously promoting the desire for change.
Folk Remedies: Known as a healing stone, the stone can be used to focus on someone’s health. It is a great crystal for inducing one’s self-healing. Particularly effective for boosting and giving strengthens to the immune system, it is often used with additional stones for detoxifying blood. I have seen this stone used in treating water retention and weight gain. As its focus seems to be mostly around the middle and lower Chakra, it is helpful in treat stomach disorders, as well as, hernias.
Feng Shui: This stone works beautifully in the Center area postion, as it represents earth, health, healing and balance.
Crystal Cleansing: method 1 – 3 and method 5 – 7
History: Mookaite (SiO2) Silicified Porcelanite, is from the Jasper family and comes from Mooka Creek in Western Australia. Also known as mookite or just mook jasper in Australia, these stones surface around the Carnarvon Basin, often near a huge sheep farm near a region called Mooka Station. The local aboriginal tribes have a word, “mooka” which means “running waters”. Its reference is to the many fresh water springs that feed Mooka Creek.

“We all come from the Goddess
And to Her we shall return
Like a drop of rain, going to the ocean”
“May the circle be open, but unbroken,
May the love of the Goddess be ever in your heart.
Merry Meet and Merry Part
And Merry Meet Again!”
