O Great Mother Sun
Spell Date: Sunday, May 14, 2017
Apollo isn’t the only deity in charge of the sun. Sun Goddesses include Amaterasu, Brigid, Hathor, Rosmerta, Saule, Shapash, Sulis, and many others. When we see Mother Sun as the center of the solar system, we can perhaps see greater peace among the people who are “ruled” by the planets. When we see Mother Sun shining down upon our beautiful blue planet, we can begin to see her blessings flowing into all nations and all people, even those who acknowledge only father gods.
For Mother’s Day, therefore, let us stand before our altars, upon which stand sun goddesses and symbols of sunny warmth and golden power. Say:
“O Great Mother Sun, shine down upon us today. Make every day your day, our Golden Mother’s Day. Shine into our hearts and minds and teach us that you give warmth and light to all of us, for we are all your children.”

In an old teapot, combine a photo of you and your partner, a lock of hair from both your heads, and any old love letters or items of endearment from your courtship that you’ve kept safe. On anniversaries or special occasions, add memorabilia to your Mrs. Pots spell and store her beneath the head of your bed.
If you experience fatigue or tribulation in your relationship, investigate the heartening memories kept warmly brewing inside of good ol’ Mrs. Pots. Allow the teapot to become an item of spiritual significance to you. See it as magical and mnemonic charm, inspiring compassionate understanding actively enriched by the flow of honest communication. Spells like this are a wonderful way to foster shared family and coven values.

It’s the end of the work week, and whatever your Friday rituals or spellwork, why not use the poetry form of the limerick to bring in some humor?
The creator of the limerick is unknown. First noted after 1820 and into the mid 1800s, this form of poem consists of five lines, rhyming aabba. While very popular in nursery rhymes, limericks are often quite ribald and for adults only. To prepare for the weekend, I offer the following limerick, safe for any age:
the weekend is nigh,
With errands and chores piled high.
If Hestia please,
Work’s accomplished with ease.
What’s not done?
I’ll turn a blind eye!”

Find Your Goddess
Spell Date: Thursday, May 11, 2017
Find a dense encyclopedia-style reference book on Goddesses, such as Patricia Monaghan’s The Encyclopedia of Goddesses and Heroines.
Light seven white candles on your altar. Remove any goddess symbols. Have the book in your lap. Ground and center. Say:
“Today I find my goddess. Come to me, Lady, that I may know you.”
Close your eyes. Open the book at random, allowing a spot within it to call to you. You may rifle through the pages, but your eyes should remain closed. When ready, place your finger on the spot that calls to you and open your eyes.
You’ve selected a Goddess. Say thank you and extinguish the candles. Read up on the goddess you’ve found. What are her colors? Foods? Incenses? Rituals? Surround yourself with her sacred things and pray to her daily for a full month. Meditate on the meaning of this goddess in your life.
If, at the end of a month, you don’t feel that you and she are meant to continue this relationship, you may repeat the spell.

Sabbat Moon Spell
Spell Date: Wednesday, May 10, 2017
Many Witches and Pagans will celebrate the great feasts at the full moon nearest the calendar date. Here is a Sabbat moon spell for that reason.
Beltane, the closest festival, is a fire feast, so either make a fire in your fireplace, if you have one, or light several candles in a fireproof container. If you are able to be outside, make a bonfire. Be sure to have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby just in case. This spell is to call for sabbat magic to empower any spells you might be working on.
You will need a dark stone to act as a storehouse for the sabbat power. Dance around the fire and enter a trance state. Call power from the fire and the sabbat. When you reach the peak, release the power into the stone. It will hold this until you wish to transfer it into your spells.

A Project Garden Spellworking
Spell Date: Tuesday, May 9, 2017
This is a garden spell that you will work all summer. You will be growing your Project Garden. You will not be planting seeds; you will be planting projects. With the beginning of the growing season, we will make sure all our needs are in place for our plans to sprout.
Are you looking for a new job? Starting school in the fall? Projects need setup, just as seeds need soil and sun. What supplies do you need? New clothes? Books? What will be the cost of your supplies? Plan now, then find funding for your project.
Estimate the cost for what you need and burn a green candle you charge with earth energy. Then locate sources of funding, such as a summer job or a loan from a relative. Magic works best when you work with it.

Festival season approaches! Learning to start outdoor fires “magickally” is fun and will put you in demand for rituals, festivals, and other gatherings.
Visit your local outdoor recreation store and purchase a two-piece fire-starter set. One piece is held steady while the other (the “striker”) is struck sharply against the stable piece, creating sparks. The sparks then fall onto some sort of highly combustible material and voilà—fire!
Most fire starters are the traditional flint and steel. Some replace the flint component with magnesium, which yields extra-hot sparks. Practice (outdoors!) until you can create a reliable shower of sparks. Then create a pile of quick-start material to catch the sparks: fatwood shavings, shreds of newspaper, or laundry lint (from your dryer) work very well. Rehearse until you can light fire with one strike. For effect, say as you strike:
Prometheus, gift us with fire!

Heartwings love Notes 776: A Thank You to my Mom
Heartwings says, “We need to acknowledge with thanks the gifts we receive from our mothers.”
This week I received a loving card in the mail from one of my three dear daughters. In it she expressed her thanks to me for what I had given her as well as for what I continue to give her. She lives at quite a distance from me so we do not see one another often. We do however do our best to keep in touch with mail and emails. It was a precious card and it was even more precious to read her acknowledgement of the little things I do for her as we continue to communicate and to share our lives together.
Although I cannot write her a letter or call her on the phone, I began thinking about what I might be grateful to my late mother for. There is a long list beginning with how she always insisted on my wearing a hat on the beach and cover up as well to protect my skin from the sun. Today, with the prevalence of skin cancer among my contemporaries and even those younger than I, I am especially grateful for her good advice. It is thought that the early exposure to excess sun is a precursor to skin cancer. She had a permanent tan on her back from her teenage years of sun exposure in Cuba where her German father was in the diplomatic service; later she had numerous bouts with skin cancer.
Though I haven’t thought much about this until recently, I realize that she was an immigrant, and what that meant especially in her early years in the country. It was the outset of what became WWII that she married my father and came to this country from Germany. As a child I remember seeing a movie taken of part of their honeymoon showing Nazis marching. She had to endure suspicions and even dislike for her nationality, even from her in-laws. Fortunately she spoke perfect English and quickly became a citizen. She was herself very courageous, and she encouraged me to stand up for myself when I was picked on in school for not being athletic or slender. In addition she always supported me when I shared my grief at not being able to fit in.
She encouraged my creativity, keeping the little booklets I made for her even until I was much older and then giving them back to me. She applauded my early efforts to play the guitar and urged me to write my own songs. She pushed originality as a virtue, praising it above all in everything I did. I think of her often and wish her well as she makes her way through whatever is next for us all in the afterlife. I am sure her bright spirit is still learning and growing and perhaps she is in some way practicing the art she did so beautifully in this life to enhance the walls of the angels’ heavenly homes.
May you have happy memories of the gifts you receive from your mom.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert
PS Dear Readers, Please share with me the gifts you may have received and the memories you have of your mothers. It is always a joy to her from you and I will be so happy to respond as soon as I am able.
The Hundred Dollar Bill
We were driving home from the Thai restaurant in Worcester. It had been raining on and off all day and the road was slick. Tasha was driving more slowly and carefully than she usually did. Ahead on the right she spotted a metal donation box for clothes.
“Oh good,” she said pulling over. “Let’s drop off the two bags of clothes on the floor in the back seat. I’ll be glad to have them out of the car.”
“It could start raining any minute,” I said feeling content and comfortable after eating more than I’m used to. “Let’s wait.”
“It won’t take but a few moments. I’ve been meaning to donate them for the last week.”
I turned, grabbed hold of the bags, swung them over the seat, opened the car door and climbed out. In the distance thunder announced even more rain.
I opened the handle and put in the two bags in the bin. Then as I turned back to the car I had a funny feeling. I paused and looked around. That’s when I made eye contact with Ben Franklin. He appeared crumpled, soiled, and wet. Reaching down I picked up what was indeed a hundred dollar bill.
I got back in the car. “Look at this.” I smiled.
“That’s a hundred dollar bill,” she said surprised.
“Our luck.” I spread it out on my knee and smoothed away the creases. Thunder rumbled overhead followed another downpour.
“Are you keeping it?” she asked.
Her question surprised me. “I don’t see why not. Here we are in the middle of the highway, no houses or buildings near by.”
“But surely someone must be missing it. Maybe they’ll come back and try to find it.”
I frowned. “Are you suggesting I put it back outside where I found it?”
She raised her eyebrows and smiled. “Knowing you I’m sure you wouldn’t want to.”
More thunder and lightening punctuated the night.
“Let’s get home before the road floats away.”
Reluctantly she started the car and continued driving back to Grafton.
“It just don’t feel right,” she began. “Obviously someone is out a hundred dollars.”
“No doubt. But maybe you could think of it as kismet, or as an act of divine Providence, maybe even payback for your being so nice as to donate two bags of clothes you no longer want.”
“If you say so.” As torrents of rain challenged the windshield wipers, she drove even slower.
Nothing was said for a while. Then she spoke up again. “Are you going to keep it?”
I sighed. “I wish my finding it didn’t bother you. After all if you hadn’t wanted to stop and donate your clothes this wouldn’t have happened. So thank you.”
“What are you thanking me for?”
“Who else would I thank? If it hadn’t been for you.”
“You could thank God.”
“I don’t think God has anything to do with this. After all, it was your idea we stop.”
The rain finally slowed down. We stopped for a light and proceeded down the hill toward our apartment. It was early and I noticed that the supermarket was still open.
“I could use a bag of potatoes and some onions.”
“Sounds good. Pull up close to the door in case we get another cloudburst.”
“Are you going to use it?”
“The hundred dollar bill.”
“I hadn’t planned on it.”
“What will you do with it then?”
I looked over at her. “I have no idea. Call it a gift. Now that you mention it maybe I’ll splurge on some lottery tickets.”
“But that’s gambling.”
“Is my finding this really bothering you? I guess we could drive back to the donation receptacle and I’ll crumble Ben up and toss him out the window.”
“No that’s not bothering me but I do fell sorry for whoever lost it. You wouldn’t like losing a hundred dollars. Supposing that was all the money you had for food.”
“Wait in the car. I’ll run in and get your potatoes and onions.”
“I’ll come in with you. I like picking out my own potatoes.”
“You don’t like my taste in potatoes?”
She smiled. “Oh it’s not that. I’m sure you’ve a good eye for onions and potatoes. But when I’m doing the cooking, I like to pick out the ones I want.”
“And you can hang onto Ben. I’ll use my credit card. Let him burn a hole in your pocket.”
“I’d rather use him to pay for the spuds and onions.”
“If you say so.”
We parked, grabbed the double umbrella from the back seat, unfolded it and went inside.
The market was practically empty. Outside thunder rumbled and rain began falling hard against the rooftop. Tasha pushed the wagon, picked up the potatoes, onions, and then organic grapes, mangos and a bag of apples.
Easy come easy go I thought as I handed Ben over to the clerk. He ran up the total, bagged our purchases and handed me an assortment of bills; several twenties, a flurry of tens, a five, some one’s and pocket change.
Another clap of thunder rolled as we started for the door.
“Aren’t you going to buy lottery tickets?”
“I thought you might not approve.”
“Don’t be silly. Let’s see them.”
I bought half a dozen five dollar Patriots scratch tickets. “You too,” I said.
“I’ve never done that. I’m not usually lucky with things like that.”
“Oh go for it. I’m sure Ben would be ok with it and cheer you on.”
We stood at the counter. After a few moments Tasha pointed to a scratch ticket that had flowers and butterflies.”
“Want two or three?”
“No,” she smiled. “One’s just fine.”
“If you say so.” I paid for them, gathered the tickets and we started for home.
We put away the groceries. Tasha put on water for tea and feeling like anticipatory children we began scratching the tickets.
The Patriots may have won last year’s super bowl but tonight Brady, Gronk and the team came up empty. “Oh well, easy come easy go,” I said masking my disappointment.
Then she laughed. “Look at that,” she exclaimed. “A hundred dollars. How fortuitous.” She smiled. “Thank you Ben and most especially thanks to the flowers and butterflies.”
I laughed. “You deserve it. After all they were your clothes you were giving away.”
“Where are you going?” she asked me.
“Into the bedroom. I want to see if I have anything in the closet to donate.”

Anoint yourself to increase your involvement with spiritual activities, especially prior to meditation and religious rituals of all kinds.

Anoint yourself or objects for protection.
Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Tincture
Anoint your body, healing amulets(sachets), blue candles and so on to speed healing or to retain good health.
Anoint your body or love sachets to attract a love and to expand your ability to give and to receive love.
STEP BY STEP
THE ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:
” Dried or fresh herbs in powdered or cut form.
” 80 -100 proof vodka or rum (NEVER use rubbing, isopropyl or wood alcohol).
” Wide-mouthed glass jars with lids (mason jar or equivalent).
” Unbleached cheesecloth or muslin.
” Labels and markers.
You should plan to start your tinctures on the day of the new moon and let them sit at least 2 weeks until the full moon – this adds a natural drawing power.
1. Pour the amount of herb you desire into the glass jar and slowly pour the alcohol until the herbs are entirely covered. Then add an inch or two of additional liquid.
2. Seal the jar tightly so that the liquid cannot leak or evaporate. Put the jar in a dark area or inside a paper bag.
3. Shake the jar every day.
4. When ready to bottle, pour the tincture through a cheesecloth into another jar or dark colored tincture bottle. Squeeze the saturated herbs, extracting the remaining liquid until no more drips appear.
5. Close the storage container with a stopper or cap and label.
Wisdom of our Ancestors
You can find guidance to deal with difficult situations by
accessing the wisdom of our ancestors. To do so, write out your
perception of the situation on a piece of paper.
Light white, black, and red candles, and cut an apple crosswise to
reveal the five-pointed star created by the seeds.
State these or similar words:
I send my voice across the veil
To my ancestors who know me well.
Answers given to aid my quest.
Quiet your mind, and receive guidance. It may arrive immediately or
over several days. Thank your ancestors, and offer the apple to them.
Recognizing Our Own Abundance
By Madisyn Taylor
One way to practice generosity is to give energy where it is needed whether that is in the form of time, money or love.
The most difficult time to be generous is when we ourselves are feeling poor. While some of us have experienced actually being in the red financially, there are those of us who would feel broke even if we had a million dollars in the bank. Either way, as the old adage goes, it is always in giving that we receive. Meaning that when we are living in a state of lack, the very gesture we may least want to give is the very act that could help us create the abundance that we seek. One way to practice generosity is to give energy where it is needed. Giving money to a cause or person in need is one way to give energy. Giving attention, love, or a smile to another person are other acts of giving that we can offer. After all, there are people all over the world that are hungry for love.
Sometimes when we practice generosity, we practice it conditionally. We might be expecting to “receive back” from the person to whom we gave. We might even become angry or resentful if that person doesn’t reciprocate. However, trust in the natural flow of energy, and you will find yourself practicing generosity with no strings attached. This is the purest form of giving. Remember that what you send out will always come back you. Selflessly help a friend in need without expecting them to return the same favor in the same way, and know that you, too, will receive that support from the universe when you need it. Besides, while giving conditionally creates stress (because we are waiting with an invisible balance sheet to receive our due), giving unconditionally creates and generates abundance. We give freely, because we trust that there is always an unlimited supply.
Being aware of how much we are always supported by the universe is one of the keys to abundance and generosity. Consciously remember the times you’ve received support from expected and unexpected sources. Remember anyone who has helped you when you’ve needed it most, and bless all situations that come into your life for the lessons and gifts they bring you. Remember that all things given and received emanate from generosity. Giving is an act of gratitude. Plant the seeds of generosity through your acts of giving, and you will grow the fruits of abundance for yourself and those around you.

“We all come from the Goddess
And to Her we shall return
Like a drop of rain, going to the ocean”
“May the circle be open, but unbroken,
May the love of the Goddess be ever in your heart.
Merry Meet and Merry Part
And Merry Meet Again!”
