Home Renewal
Spell Date: Sunday, April 16, 2017
It’s Easter Sunday, a day of resurrection and renewal. It’s also a waning moon, a time to cause things to diminish or disappear. So let’s do a simple spring-cleaning spell focused on driving out the unwanted and bringing renewal.

Make a strong tea of lavender and lemon or lemon verbena. In each room of your home, repeat the following steps:

Go around the room counterclockwise, picking up any clutter while saying:

Unwanted be gone!
Unwanted be gone!

Feel free to change the word unwanted to something more specific about your life.

Put all the clutter away. Then dip a cleaning cloth into the tea. Go around the room clockwise, wiping down each surface and saying:

A new day dawns! A new day dawns!

Rinse the cleaning cloth between rooms so that it’s fresh each time.

End by wiping down the front door of your home, inside and out.

Spell to Spice It Up in the Boudoir
Spell Date: Saturday, April 15, 2017
Every relationship needs a little spice when things get too vanilla. Cinnamon can help take things to a whole new level and can bring out the unnoticed elements of an otherwise bland flavor. When you are in need of a pick-me-up in the boudoir, brew a pot of coffee, but add one tablespoon of cinnamon to the fresh grounds before brewing. As the coffee brews, draw a pentacle of red fire in the air just above the coffeepot and say:

“From soil to bean, shaft to stick, bring back the fire and light the wick! Cinnamon spice and all that’s nice, make us hot and double it twice! Red flame rising, enchant this brew, and help us be innocent, playful, and true!”

When the coffee is finished brewing, add your favorite extras and sit together with your significant other(s) and talk sexy. Let this special brew do the rest.

Good Friday
Spell Date: Friday, April 14, 2017
For people of a faith other than Christian, Good Friday is nothing more than a day off of work and school. Others enjoy a quiet day of reflection into their private beliefs.

What fascinates me most is how the Christian celebration of Easter, and therefore Good Friday, was established by the cycle of the moon. In 325 CE, the First Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox, our Ostara. The Pagan influence has never been completely erased from Christianity and other religions. You may choose to meditate on this and the power of ancient earth-based belief systems. Light silver and gold candles to honor the female and male energies. Say:

“Lord and Lady, on this day,
Bless my efforts whatever they be.
Watch over me in work or play.
In turn I give fidelity.”

An Invocation of Balance
Spell Date: Thursday, April 13, 2017
An equinox has come and gone and now the world is moving either into greater darkness or greater light. Has anything shifted in you in subtle or overt ways? Where is your invocation of balance required?

Light a candle of any color before you, perhaps at your indoor altar or at an outdoor shrine. Ground, center, and align. When you feel vividly present inside of the web of relationships, call out to the winds and the worlds:

“Powers of the serpent winds,
Powers I call and conjure in,
I invoke for balance here,
I lay down my hurt and fear.”

Perceive the flame before you open up and engulf you in a ring of holy flame. It holds you in its mighty spell. You may receive visions, intuitions, or insights. Record them in your journal.

Soften the Edge of Darkness
Spell Date: Wednesday, April 12, 2017
The days are getting longer, but not fast enough. In the early spring, I often find myself worrying about something unknown or unidentified—fretting without knowing why or over what. I’ve learned how to soften the edges of darkness and worry using this simple scribing practice. All you have to do is light candles and write.

I use beeswax candles, nontoxic and sweet-smelling. Light three or four of them in fireproof containers enough to create a warm, pleasant glow. Enjoy the candlelight; observe how it softens the room’s edges. Take notebook and pen, and write stream of- consciousness, without stopping, until you’ve completed three pages. Don’t stop, don’t edit, and don’t worry. Whatever niggling worry you may have had will be revealed by writing, and putting it down on paper will lighten the shadows inside you. It may still be dark outside, but inside darkness has softened.

Moon Magicks
Spell Date: Tuesday, April 11, 2017
It’s that time again: the moon is full, filling the sky with glorious light. You’re moved to participate— but how? Here are some ideas for using lunar energy.

Are you involved with a coven, grove, or other magickal group? Work with them to develop a ritual (Drawing Down the Moon, for instance) or carry out a solo ritual. Try Writing Down the Moon.

Go “moon bathing.” Take a walk under the full moon, soaking in the lunar energies. If the skies are clear, you may even be able to read under the moonlight, and there’s no better time to read magickal texts.

Charge your Craft tools by laying them on a silk scarf or altar cloth and allowing them to energize under the full moon. Create charged water by setting out a jar or chalice of pure water overnight. Offer a greeting for the moon:

“Hail to thee, Queen of the Night! May you fill my soul with your clearest light.”

Balance Affirmation
Spell Date: Monday, April 10, 2017
Today, focus on restoring balance to areas of your life that may need attention. Balance is a somewhat general term—think about what it means to you and how you can apply it. Do you feel balanced emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially? Do you live in extremes? Once you’ve targeted your specific need, visualize what balance means in that area.

Use a double-terminated clear quartz point, if you have one. Imagine this as a symbol of balance. You can also use a yin-yang symbol or whatever else appeals to you. Charge the object of your choice with these words and carry it with you:

“Keep me balanced, day to day,
To navigate and make my way.
Keep me steady, keep me true,
In every task that I pursue.”

Good Earthkeeping
By Tasha Halpert

Easter Eggs are More than Just Food

A favorite memory I have of Easter is of dying my eggs using onion skins. For weeks I saved up the papery wrappings of the outside of the onions. Now it was time to put them to use. Using string I secured the onion skins to my eggs and set them on to boil. The results were quite lovely and I was grateful to my friend Maggie for sharing her knowledge of how eggs were originally colored in her native homeland.

Eggs have always had mythological significance. The oldest recorded writings the Vedas of India, say the world evolved from a cosmic egg. According to Wikepedia other mythologies featuring creation and eggs include the Egyptian, the Phoenician, the Greek, the Chinese and the Finnish. As all life hatches from eggs-whether those of mammals or of egg layers, it make perfect sense that a holiday that began as a fertility celebration would feature them.

Easter is essentially a spring festival. The Christian expression of it also relates to life and generation of which eggs are a symbol. Red dyed eggs have been found buried at Bronze Age sites. These were surely connected to the worship of the pre-Christian deity, the goddess in charge of spring farm and field fertility. The name Easter derives from the name Eostre, the Anglo Saxon goddess of spring or Ostara the Germanic version of the goddess’s name.

How the rabbit came to be associated with Easter and eggs is another story. A rabbit relative associated with the goddess, the hare a strong, somewhat fierce animal is nocturnal and its babies unlike those of rabbits are born with eyes open. Some say the figure on the surface of the moon is that of a hare. The hare has also been associated with the moon because its gestation period is the same 28 days. Thus the goddess’s sacred animal came to be part of Easter.

Despite their differences, the hare became a rabbit when Germans immigrated to the United States in the 1600s and settled in Pennsylvania, spreading out from there to the surrounding states. Their Easter celebrations did not catch on right away, however, because of the stronger puritan influence that suppressed what was thought to be essentially too pagan in its expression. It is most likely that children envious of Easter goodies and fun influenced the universality of the celebration so that eventually it spread everywhere.

Easter eggs continue to be important and many households will overflow with them after the holidays. My favorite way to use hard boiled Easter eggs is in egg salad sandwiches. This recipe is for 6 eggs. I don’t peel them but instead break them in half and scoop out the insides. Chop and mash with ½ cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon tarragon, Salt, pepper, a tablespoon or more of horseradish sauce and ½ teaspoon of dry mustard. Add ¼ cup finely chopped celery, and ¼ cup finely chopped onion. If you like curry flavor, add a teaspoon or so to taste.

The Day the Rabbit Found Easter
An Easter Tale for Children of All Ages

The brown rabbit with the soft blue eyes was sad. Somehow and despite hinting as much as he could he had failed to receive an invitation to this year’s Easter Revels. Not that he had received invitations in previous years but this year as he had begun to feel his age he felt especially alone and sad.
It’s unusual for a rabbit to feel gloomy. Usually they’re quite the opposite full of mischief and frolic but this year was different. He watched from his burrow as all the animals in the forest in their Sunday best promenaded to Mother Nature’s feast.
The elephants wore their new cashmere shawls while the tiger sported his blue turtleneck and maroon smoking jacket. The animals looked distinguished, even the field mice in their sporty new jackets.
“Why,” he cried. “Why hasn’t Mother Nature included us in her Pageant? It’s not like we ever had words. I’ve always helped out when asked and we’ve contributed each year to the Forest Fund.”
Though his wife sympathized with her husband’s plight she felt a sense of relief at not having to dress up and participate. After all it was always the rabbits who were stuck with washing the dishes. She was the sort who preferred staying home and doing her own cooking rather than eating what circumstance might serve. “Be glad,” she said. “I’ve made us a carrot cabbage pie and creamed broccoli pudding just for today.”
Despite her cheerful words the old rabbit nonetheless felt left out. A sense of anger rose in him. He considered it unfair that they were excluded. He knew he must do something but what? The question made his brain turn cartwheels. It didn’t help that in the distance he could hear the Mother Nature’s Marching Band playing their new heartfelt spring melody.
“You have never liked going in the past,” his wife reminded him. “Truth be told, to me you seemed critical of just about everything from the flavor of the punch to the choice of herbs in the salad.”
“You yourself admitted the punch was flat and the herbal dressing had no taste,” he reminded her.
“That may be so,” she said, her voice gentle and consoling. “But you can’t expect home cooking at a banquet. “Perhaps last year your critical comments inadvertently hurt the cook’s feelings and word got back to Mother Nature. Cooks are especially sensitive.”
But none the less despite his wife’s gentle admonishment the rabbit felt as though he must do something new and spectacular . Exactly what, however, he wasn’t sure. But something. Of this he was sure.
Gathering his energy he jumped from their burrow, assured his wife he’d be back and hopped deep into the forest far, far from the sounds of the Easter Pageant. He didn’t know where he was going and he wasn’t even sure why he was going there-wherever there was, but he just knew he had to go.
Something made him stop by a large flat stone. He sat down and waited, for exactly what he wasn’t sure but something inside him insisted he wait. After a short time he fell asleep. Even so, he felt as though he were still awake. Everything looked the same until suddenly a gigantic magical multi colored hare appeared out of nowhere right in front of him.
“Why so glum? asked the hare.
“I wasn’t invited to the feast,” The rabbit felt depressed and his voice showed his disappointment.
“Hares and rabbits never are,” replied the hare. “We’re supposed to work on Easter. Just like Santa Claus is responsible for delivering presents on Christmas Eve, we rabbits and hares are supposed to bring the splendor of fertility to all beings of the forest.”
The old rabbit was astounded. He’d never heard of such a responsibility. “Tell me what I’m supposed to do?”
“Enliven the feasibilities,” said the hare.
“And how am I supposed to do that? I’m afraid my song and dance days are behind me.”
“You misunderstand me, my good rabbit,” said the hare. I want you to go home and you and your wife will then follow my instructions.”
“What instructions? Do what?” Asked the mystified rabbit.
“You’ll see,” said the hare. He began to disappear.
“Wait, wait!” cried the rabbit. He started up from the stone and put out his paws.
“I told you, my friend, just go home. You’ll see when you get there.” The hare disappeared completely and the rabbit found himself rubbing his eyes and staring around him. What else can I do? He thought, and away he hopped as fast as he could.
As he hopped into his front yard, his wife came running out to greet him. “Look, look,” she said pointing to a pile of baskets and a stack of buckets of paint. A very colorful hare brought these and said, ‘Go to the hen house, paint the eggs, and deliver them to the festivities.’ Then the gigantic hare disappeared.”
The old rabbit saw the paint and baskets. “Now I understand,” he said and hugged his wife. He told her of his dream and together they made their way to the henhouse. They somehow painted many hundreds of eggs, put them in the baskets and took them to the festivities.
“Oh good,” Mother Nature said. “You finally got my message. And what wonderful painted eggs! From now on you’ll be known as the Easter Bunny.”
From then on the old rabbit and his wife taught eager younger rabbits the art of painting Easter eggs. Every Easter afterward his handiwork dazzled not only the inhabitants of the forest but children throughout the world as well.

Home’s Energy Dedication Spell
by thiscrookedcrown

Spring cleaning? Just moving into a new place? You’ll want to make sure that home is happy, right?

This spell is good for people who want to bring their lives and homes into focus. Some people create their homes to be an oasis of something – productivity, happiness, zen-like peace, relaxation, or fun. If this sounds like something you want to do, then this spell will help dedicate your home’s energy to just that. You’ll still be able to live and work as normal but there will be a definite air towards whatever you want to focus on.

What you’ll need:
• A representation of the key focus of your home
• Sunshine water (optional)
The first thing you’ll need to do is to consider what is the key focus of your home and how you want to represent it. Do you want to have fun? Then a printed photo of you having fun is a good choice. Want to bring peace, then write down a meditation instead. Want to be known as the neighborhood baker? Write your favorite recipe down. How about studious? Print out a school curriculum. You get the idea. It needs to be a piece of paper that represents what you want to do most in your home. If you’re a business owner and casting this spell on your shop space, then use paper money.
Whatever you choose to use, make sure that you spend a lot of time thinking and remembering good times when writing it down. If you’re using a photo, then write on the back of the printed copy what you loved about that time. If you’re using money, cleanse the bill and hold the money thinking or telling the bill how you want to bring more money into the business / home.
Once you have your representation, clean and cleanse your home. Use whatever techniques you want. You just want your home in the freshest possible condition.
Stand in the heart of your home. This will be the place where you spend the most time and are happiest. Where your family and housemates will meet up. It could be the living room, kitchen, etc. For business, it should be the place where you create your products or your counter where sales are packaged up.
You can write down the representation onto the floor / wall / permanent counter in the sunshine water. (Make sure that water doesn’t actually show on the floor / wall / counter, as it sometimes can.)
Once you finish with the sunshine water, you can slip the paper into the ceiling or under the floor. (Try the basement or attic). If none of those options are available, place it under or on top of a piece of furniture that doesn’t move from that room.
Now stand in the middle of the room (as much as possible) and spend time with the home’s energy. You can meditation, say a prayer, or chant a happy home. The dedication is done.

• Sunshine water is water that has soaked up sunshine. It’s super easy to make. You get a clear jar of water and stick it in direct sunlight where it cannot be touched by shadow. Bring it in before dark.
Happy casting!

Enlightenment At Home
By Madisyn Taylor

Spiritual growth can take place anywhere if you are open and ready to learn and receive.
Many spiritual seekers feel called to far-flung places across the globe in the interest of pursuing the path of their enlightenment. This may indeed be the right course of action for certain people, but it is by no means necessary to attaining an enlightened consciousness. Enlightenment can take root anywhere on earth, as long as the seeker is an open and ready vessel for higher consciousness. All we need is a powerful intention, and a willingness to do the work necessary to moving forward on our path.

In terms of spiritual practice, at this moment, there are more tools available to more people than at any other time in history. We have access to so much wisdom through the vehicles of books, magazines, the Internet, television, and film. In addition, the time-honored practice of meditation is free, and sitting quietly everyday, listening to the universe, is a great way to start the journey within. There is further inspiration in the fact that the greatest teachers we have are our own life experiences, and they come to us every day with new lessons and new opportunities to learn. If we look at the people around us, we may realize that we have a spiritual community already intact, and if we don’t, we can find one, if not in our own neighborhood, then on-line.

Meanwhile, if we feel called to travel in search of teachers and experiences, then by all means, we should. But if we can’t go to India, or Burma, or Indonesia, or if we don’t have the desire, this is not an obstacle in terms of our spiritual development. In fact, we may simply be aware that our time and energy is best spent in our own homes, with our meditation practice and all the complications and joys of our own lives. We can confidently stay in one place, knowing that everything that we need to attain enlightenment is always available right where we are.
