Workshop and Plant Walk Schedule

If you’re in the Northwest Arkansas area, or are going to be here this summer, I have some exciting learning opportunities for you. Right now I have two plant identification walks and two workshops on the schedule. Details below (can also be found on my website):

Saturday May 13, 2017 – Lake Fayetteville Plant Walk
Date: May 13th (Saturday) Time: 9am – ? (11am or later, but you can stop anytime)
Location: Lake Fayetteville, Veteran’s Park Entrance (see details below)
Cost: Suggested donation $5, but scholarships available if you email Cat prior to class.
RSVP: Cat Swenson at cat@greatferments.com

WHERE TO MEET: Meet at: Lake Fayetteville – dirt trail, the entrance in Veteran’s Park off of Zion Rd. From Hwy 71, go east on Zion Road and then go left on N. Vantage Drive. Vantage drive loops around Veterans Memorial Park, FYI. Parking is by the paved trail, but you’ll need to head over to the dirt trail, not far from the Pavilion (You’ll see us from the Pavilion). It’s a nice trail, low-medium difficulty, with a lot of plant life.) Look for signs for Nourishing Traditions group. Dress for the weather! If it’s storming we will not be going out. Also BRING PLENTY WATER and any snacks you may want.

Sunday May 28, 2017 – Crystal Bridges Plant Walk
Date: May 28th (Sunday) Time: 9am – ? (11am or later, but you can stop anytime)
Location: Crystal Bridges Trails in Bentonville. MEET by the shuttle stop to the main entrance/park in that lot. The shuttle stop is right off of Museum Way. Easiest to find if you enter from J street side of the grounds. Great places to walk, and not very difficult.
Cost: Suggested donation $5, but scholarships available if you email Cat prior to class.
RSVP: Cat Swenson at cat@greatferments.com

WHERE TO MEET: The shuttle stop to the main entrance of Crystal Bridges & park in that same lot. The shuttle stop is right off of Museum Way (J Street entrance). Also BRING PLENTY OF WATER and any snacks you may want. This isn’t a long trail and we will not be moving quickly. We are allowing ourselves to be distracted by the wonderful plants around us.

Saturday July 1, 2017 – Herbal Oils, Salves, and Balms
Date: July 1st (Saturday) 1pm – 3pm (Please note: there is a repeat of this same class on July 8th in Bentonville)
Location: The Omni Center at 3274 N Lee Ave in Fayetteville
Cost: Suggested donation $5, but scholarships available if you email Cat prior to class.
RSVP: Cat Swenson at cat@greatferments.com or 200-1908

Details: Join Brandon Weston of Mountain Man Traditional Healing as we take a look at some easy to make herbal preparations. In this class we will be learning how to combine medicinal herbs with different oils and fats to create your own salves and balms. Already made salves and oils will be available to purchase and a recipe packet will be provided that has some wonderful ideas for you to try at home. We’ll also be taking a look at some of the many native “yarbs” (herbs) that grow in our Ozark Mountain area (and maybe even your own backyard!) that we can use in our herbal preparations. Brandon is knowledgeable in the folklore surrounding these plants and has many interesting tales and histories to share with us as well.
