Full Moon Celebration
Spell Date: Sunday, March 12, 2017
Whether you’re honoring the full moon alone or with a group, find some time to get outside and look upon her light this evening. Each month it’s humbling to consider how small we are in the universe— and yet, what great things we can do. Think of those in the past who’ve looked upon the moon, as well as those who will see her in the future. The moon has long been a symbol and object of fascination to us. In many ways, she unites us here on Earth as we gaze up at her glowing face.
Create an altar to celebrate moonlight; use white candles, clear crystals, and silver or white decorations. Use this chant as you honor the full moon:
“Brilliant moon, We gather in the darkness as your glow arrives. Constant moon, Throughout the ages your presence survives. Mirror moon, Reflecting the light and the phases of our lives.”

Persephone’s Love
Spell Date: Saturday, March 11, 2017

In the stories of Persephone, we hear of abduction and return. We read about how Demeter, Zeus, and Hades feel about and react to her. Persephone is the Sovereign Queen of the Dead and the Underworld. In my experience as her priest in this world, she is an agent of mysterious power and deep love. She chooses to pluck a strange blossom because she is curious, she desires, she dares. What of the perilous quest for love?

Take a pomegranate and hold it in your hands while in a meditative or entranced state. Project your awareness into the pomegranate. Feel its many seeds and its chambers, its hard exterior and its soft, yielding within. Know that when you burst open this fruit, you are committing to the dare of love in its infinite manifestations. This is one of the greatest risks, this dare of love. Be aware.

Reiki Tag
Spell Date: Friday, March 10, 2017

To strengthen a psychic trust bond with someone, take some time out of your day to play a bit of Reiki tag. Sending and receiving energy is one of the essential ways that we maintain our spiritual relationships, and testing the system every now and then is a fun way to explore our compassion and understanding for others. Each person must choose three positive emotions or energies to share.

At random moments in the day, energy should be sent and received mutually. When one person initiates sharing, the other must take time out of their routine to reciprocate. Test your ability to anticipate the needs of others by looking for signs of thirst, hunger, discomfort, or emotional need. Test your observations by asking for feedback, first in person, then over the phone, and finally using only psychic skills. Discuss the results over an intimate dinner, and for the best outcome, fine-tune your trust by choosing to adapt your techniques together.

Save the Day Spell
Spell Date: Thursday, March 9, 2017

Following a devastating brain injury, Hal Elrod created the acronym SAVERS to remember the practices he undertakes each morning that “save” the day.

S stands for silence. Get quiet in the morning: pray, meditate, breathe. Start the day in a calm state of mind.

A is for affirmations, the positive statements that encourage you toward better behavior, happy thoughts, and healthy outcomes.

V means visualization. Envision yourself doing a complex task, step by step, with a successful outcome. Focus on what success feels like.

E is for exercise. Just fifteen minutes of bodyweight exercise gets the blood flowing to the brain.

R stands for reading uplifting, inspirational material.

S is for scribing—writing down what is going on inside of you. Journaling is a great way to be in touch with your deepest desires and keep track of your progress.

Try these SAVERS to magically change your day.

Heartwings Love Notes 768: Thoughts from a Thrifty Cook

Heartwings says, “Saving money on food is easy when you have thrifty ways.”

To my mother food was precious and not to be wasted. She had been a young child during World War I in Germany, and the experience of scarcity shaped her thinking around food. Every bit was to be used up one way or another. Then came World War II and rationing. Though I was very young, that also helped shape my attitude. Fortunately I have been able to put my early ideology to good use in learning how to create meals from whatever I have left over even if I hadn’t already planned ahead what to do with it.

A chicken, for instance provides at least three meals: hot, cold, and soup. That’s easy, but what about the bits and pieces of vegetables, meat, fish, or even pasta that might otherwise molder in the back of the ‘fridge. Why not make a soup, or combine them in a stirfry? If your family is fussy about food you probably can’t do that, however a retired couple like us, or even a single person may find it fun to experiment. One warning: it is important for the leftovers from the originals to make good combinations: a curry and a chili won’t mix well.

To use up most leftover vegetables, sauté half an onion until soft and then tip in whatever you have. The additional onion freshens the taste. Add half a box of chicken or beef broth and serve it as soup with a salad for supper. Throw in a handful of uncooked pasta of your choice or leftover rice and simmer for a heartier dish. Or combine the vegetables and the rice or some cooked pasta, sprinkle on curry powder, voila, another meal. A little leftover hamburger or some other cooked meat can easily be added to the simple stirfry and you have a more filling lunch or supper. I often use some of that convenient boxed coconut milk to season my leftover vegetables

Whenever I make rice I make enough so I have some left over. I like to use it to make what I call Pudding As Rice: Per person use ½ cup rice, 1 Tbs butter, 1 Tbs brown sugar, about a half cup or so mixed dried fruit of your choice-brown and white raisins, dried cranberries, cherries, dried pineapple, or whatever else you fancy. Mix and cook together over low heat 15 minutes or so, stirring occasionally until all is mingled into a tasty mix and serve with some kind of cream poured over it. Or instead, combine it with fresh or canned fruit. This simple dessert pleases almost everyone.

Here’s to leftovers! May you use yours well.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Domestic Tranquility: Mars or Bust

“Could you imagine spending our golden years on Mars?” I asked Tasha.
She turned from her computer and looked at me. “What on earth for?”
I waved the article I had just read. “Where’s your pioneer spirit? Wouldn’t you like to explore the red planet, be one of the first settlers there? It would be like being pilgrims all over again.” I went to her desk and handed her the article. “Read this; it’s about colonizing Mars in the near future.”
She took it, perused it and frowned. “Passage is only one way.” A sense of finality permeated her voice.
“That’s true but what a way to go.”
“Go where?”
“To our great reward. Oh sure we could hang out on earth and get fleeced by the medical industry or we could sign up for an early flight and be part of history.”
“And what are we supposed to do once we get there, assuming the flight even makes it and we haven’t deteriorated half way into orbit.”
I went back to my computer and sat down. “There’s always risks,” I said. “Risks are a part of life.”
“And you’re the one who doesn’t like driving into Worcester for fear of traffic on Route 9.”
“But this would be different. We’d be traveling with contemporaries, thought of as pioneers going where no one has gone before.”
She threw up her hands. “You have no idea the peril we’d face. This wouldn’t just be a holiday cruise on the bouncing sea; and for someone who occasionally complains of about claustrophobia can you imagine how you’d feel being strapped into a space suit for who knows how many years?”
“I suppose you could see it that way. And I’m sure the majority of our friends would heartily agree with you.” Visions of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon flashed through my mind. “Wouldn’t you like being on the bridge of the Enterprise with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock? Furthermore, you’re the one who always speaks of life as an adventure.”
She ignored that comment, got up from her desk and went into the kitchen. “You can’t compare TV shows with real life. They’re meant as entertainment, nothing more.”
But if people felt that way back in the days of the Mayflower this country might never have been colonized.”
“Have you thought about what we’d be given for food? You’d never see a pizza or eat sushi again. Instead there’d be some tasteless paste squeezed into our mouths from a machine.” She frowned. “No thank you.”
“For all you know that paste could have amazing taste-beef bourguignon braised in wine; or your favorite, fresh crabmeat oozing with a distinct New England flavor.”
She took some leftovers from the fridge. “Forget it. If you must, you go to Mars. Were it me I’d hold out for something ever so much more practical like visiting the Moon.”
“And you don’t think the moon hasn’t already been so commercialized that considering a vacation there is not only way over priced but no doubt booked ahead for years? Mars on the other hand touches upon man’s basic, root desire for exploration.”
She laughed. “Sure, if you say so. Who am I to argue to with someone who’s never even gone backpacking let alone camping in the wilderness? Would you please peel some garlic? We’re almost out.” She handed me two large buds.
“Tasha, living in a colony on Mars is totally different from camping out on the Appalachian Trail. For one thing it might never rain there as opposed to getting drenched by some cloudburst or struck by dangerous lightening during a thunderstorm. Besides chances are we’d meet the Martians and they’d show us how to grown corn and other staples just like Native people did for the Pilgrims.”
“Or devour you for supper. No one has any idea what to expect from an onslaught of possibly angry Martians. As long as I can remember I haven’t read one science fiction novel that even hints that Martians might be friendly and welcoming to people from Earth.”
I peeled several cloves and put them in the jar she keeps them in. “Sometimes history has a way of repeating itself. We’d give them jewelry and some of the same junky plastic beads and trinkets we gave the Native Americas back before the first Thanksgiving. How do you think Peter Minuet could have ever afforded to settle New York? It’s not like he had Donald Trump by his side writing checks.”
“And assuming we even landed we know we couldn’t ever return. I’d never be able to visit the great grandchildren.” She looked pensive. “It would be sad for me knowing that the rest of my life was being spent in some kind of interplanetary exile.” She began setting out the ingredients for cornbread.
“You’d be able to email, Skype or maybe even tweet via the computer. And believe me knowing that their great grandmother was living on Mars would make you far more interesting to them than just being another elderly person tottering about here on Earth.”
She sighed. “When they come up with a round trip ticket I’ll let you know how I feel.” She looked at me wistfully. “In the meantime couldn’t you just be satisfied to live in a peaceful retirement community somewhere we both wanted to be?”
I smiled and nodded. “Sure thing. Just for you I’ll try to be satisfied with life right here on earth. Unless of course you change your mind.”

Taking Counsel in a Circle
By Madisyn Taylor

The use of a talking stick during counsel assures every voice is heard fully without interruption.

When we sit in a circle together and share our thoughts and feelings, we participate in a powerful, unifying practice whose origins stem from the very beginning of human time. All early cultures practiced some form of this ritual, which gives each individual in the group a voice, and at the same time reveals the one voice, and the ultimate unity, of the group. This profound and simple way of talking and listening has experienced a modern rebirth in counseling, social work, and spirituality.

Most circles benefit from the presence of a leader who opens the circle by calling in angels, spirit guides, and ancestors – beings of light who will be present with those taking counsel. The leader may announce a theme for the circle, or one may simply evolve from the unstructured expressions of each participant. The circle continues for as long as feels right, at which point the leader may summarize what has been said, perhaps leading everyone in a moment of silence before the circle disbands. One of the most powerful components of this work is the talking stick, which can be any object – a crystal, a flower, or a candle – that is passed around the circle from person to person. The person holding the object speaks until he has fully expressed his feelings, and no one else interjects, interrupts, or even responds until they are holding the stick. This enables people who have a hard time speaking out to express long buried feelings and points of view. This is powerful because in a community it is often what is not said or acknowledged that causes the most pain and suffering.

The circle, which contains no hard edges or angles, is the ideal container for these difficult truths. As we hear the many perspectives the subject at hand inspires, we begin to see that our individual truth is just one of many. Our own hard edges begin to soften as the circle flows from one person to the next, and each wave of words cleanses us of one more layer of mental and emotional armor, freeing us to be closer to the people around us. Try using counsel during your next family meeting, school class, or any setting where you feel a centering communication method is needed.
