Prosperity with Every Falling Flake or Drop

Spell Date:  Sunday, February 19, 2017

This is a simple prosperity spell that you can do when it snows or rains. If you don’t have some form of moisture coming from the sky on the day you want to do it, you can substitute a small pitcher and a bowl, or even confetti or glitter. The spell can be done outside or inside ( looking out at the precipitation). If you are using confetti, you can do it at an altar. Take a moment to visualize each flake, droplet, or bit of confetti containing the potential for prosperity. You can even see them as gold coins. Then say:

“With each flake (drop) before my eyes, Prosperity comes from magic skies. Falling down and all around, Prosperity will now abound.”

National Battery Day

Spell Date:  Saturday, February 18, 2017

Today is National Battery Day. We use batteries to power much of modern life, from flashlights to smartphones. Alas, batteries and magic don’t always mix! Some magical people find that they drain batteries extra fast. Others can give a dying battery a little recharge.

On the mystical side, many things can work as a “battery” to power a spell. Quartz crystals are among the best for this purpose. A plain, clear quartz crystal can provide energy for all kinds of magical crafts. Crystals are easily recharged by putting them in sunlight or moonlight for a few hours.

Whether your favorite type of battery is technological or magical, take a few minutes to honor it today. Look at it or visualize it and say:

“Vessel of power, I give thanks to you for holding the energy until it is ready to become light, motion, sound, and power.”

World Human Spirit Day

Spell Date:  Friday, February 17, 2017

All over this earth, most of what we know about our own world is superficial, shallow, and limited. Unhappy and tragic news bombards us from all sides. Today, look to the strength of the human spirit. Make this a day to search deeper for contentedness—to wonder at our achievements, contemplate possibilities, and embrace the realization that we do not have all the answers yet. Give thanks to the higher powers for all we have and all we are.

Another way to celebrate this day might be to research forward-thinking prophets and philosophers from the past, and those who currently live among us. Light candles: white for peace, purple for spiritual awareness, and black to absorb negative energy. Then say:

“I call to my higher power and the power within the candle flame. Keep me curious and open, available and welcoming, to the blessed spirituality of all like-minded humans.”

Let There Be Peace on Earth

Spell Date:  Thursday, February 16, 2017

It seems like every time we turn on the TV or click on a current events blog, the news is filled with reports of war. There are uncivil wars in nations around the world. Religious psychopaths are raping women and girls and killing men. Drones seem to be filling the skies. It’s awful. While we can donate to agencies to feed hungry people or find homes for people who live on the streets, at the same time we need to do altar work to help heal the consciousness of our beautiful planet.

Every day of the year is a good day to sing that lovely song “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” written by Jill Jackson Miller and Sy Miller in 1955. But let’s rewrite the verse to remove the patriarchal slant:

“With Goddess as our Mother, Cousins all are we. Let us meet with each other In perfect harmony.”

Lupercalia Home Blessing

Spell Date:  Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Today is the final day of the Roman festival Lupercalia, an ancient spring-cleaning event conducted to help avert evil in the coming season and to unlock the powers of abundance and fertility in the earth. This festival was and still is honored both in cities and rural homes all throughout the Western world.

This home blessing should be done after a home cleansing and requires only a bell. At dusk, stand at the center of your home, face the west, and ring the bell three times. Say:

“By Lupercus, Faunus, and Pan, I banish the old energy of yesteryear and winter!”

Then face the east, ring the bell three times, and say:

“By Lupercus, Faunus, and Pan, I invite riches and the abundance of spring!”

While ringing the bell and fumigating the rest of your home, move through each room chanting the second line until each room has been blessed.

Heartwings Love Notes 764 Healthy and Tasty Winter Meals

Heartwings says, “It is especially important to eat well in cold weather.”

Some of the most important foods we can eat in cold weather are those that boost the immune system and fortify our bodies against the ever-present germs that surround us during the cold months in New England. Raw foods are extra important because none of their vitamins are cooked away. A really good for you, inexpensive, cancer preventing food filled with vitamins and minerals, is cabbage. I have recently invented a new way to eat it: cabbage salads. This is not coleslaw by any other name.

Instead of grating it or using the food processor as I would for coleslaw, I cut the cabbage into very thin strips with a long serrated knife-kind of fun to do. I put it into a bowl and cut into the strips with scissors to shorten them. Then I slice off a chunk of sweet onion and cut that into thin strips that I also reduce in size. I add enough mayonnaise to moisten together with a tablespoon of horseradish sauce and a pinch of salt. I stir it well. Voila! Cabbage salad. This way of preparing it makes for more crunch, and the vitamins are a welcome addition. You can of course add other ingredients if you like-raisins, dried fruit, canned pineapple or herbs.

Another staple of my winter foods is a variety of hearty soups. They are both nutritious, and convenient. My Lentil Herb soup provides herbal support for the immune system as well as good taste. In 2 Tbs Butter and 2 Tbs good olive oil sauté ½ large chopped onion, 1 cup or more chopped celery (I use scissors) and sauté until transparent. Add 2 cups water, 2 cups beef broth, 1 tsp each of dried savory, thyme, marjoram, ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 bay leaf, 1 large potato peeled and chopped into ½ inch chunks–about a cup, 3 cloves of pressed not chopped garlic, ½ cup lentils salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, simmer for 1 ½ to 2 hours, and enjoy!

A tasty bread pudding finishes off a meal nicely. This one is easy and quickly made. Chop into 1 inch squares 4 slices any good (dense) bread (With or without crusts, your choice.) Put in a 1½ quart casserole (buttered or not, your choice). Stir bread together with ¼ to ½ cup sugar your choice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Stir in 1 cup raisins. Beat together 2 eggs and 2 cups any kind of milk. Stir into bread. Cover casserole and place in 350 degree oven, bake for 45 minutes, uncover and bake another 15 minutes to brown the top. Serve warm with any kind of cream poured on it, or just as it is. Serves 4 to 6.

May you enjoy the consumption of your food as well as its preparation.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Domestic Tranquility: The Tent on the Bed

“It was the coldest morning in many a year, so cold in fact that the morning paper crinkled as I unfolded it. The thermometer read well below zero. As though it were a message from Divine Providence the full page ad from Mall Mart demanded my attention.

“That’s it!” I proclaimed! “I’ve found us a solution to this frigid weather without our heating bill going through the roof.”

“A solution,” Tasha said.” Her eyes lit up. “Are we going to Florida? I saw some very appealing rates in the Sunday paper.”

“Even better,” I tried assuring her.

She poured the water for tea, turned back to the stove and stirred her breakfast oatmeal.

“I think a trip South would be a lot of fun,” she smiled. “We certainly know enough friends from over the years there who’d be happy to see us and might even host us for a few days.”

“And then what? Come back home to this same old frigid weather probably lasting deep into the Spring?”

She turned and put her hands on her hips. “What other idea do you have in mind?”

I pointed to the full-page ad. “This is a far more permanent, cutting edge solution. Let’s take advantage of this big sale at Mall Mart and buy us an authentic imported Himalayan artic tent.”

Her eyes widened. “A tent? What on earth for?”

“So we’ll be warm.” I pointed to the ad. “But not just any tent. They’re having a very special sale on two person native crafted mountain tents. They’re said to be good for up to fifty degrees below zero.”

“Are you planning an expedition to Mount Everest? I thought you were cold?”

I laughed. “Exactly so! No! I’m going to pitch it right here on our bed. And assuming we go over there after breakfast we can set it up and move into it tonight.”

She shook her head. “I don’t understand. But I don’t think I’d want to sleep in a tent that was on our bed.”

“Why not? What’s to understand? We’ll finally be warm. Just think no more frigid winter air invading our sleep. It would fit fine on top of our bed. Plus it comes equipped with a battery operated light so we could read in bed without using any extra electricity.”

She opened the toaster oven door and checked on my burrito. “You’re going to pitch it on our bed?”

“Exactly so. Look at this illustration.  Simply pull those two little tabs and bingo it pops open. Then all we have to do is tie those two little cords to the corners of the bed frame. ”

She looked at the ad, wrinkled her nose, and eyed me in a most peculiar way. “This sounds totally impractical. Besides it must be made of synthetics and breathing chemicals like that in a confined space wouldn’t do either of us any good.”

“Oh no! I’m sure it’s made from only the best organic fiber. “You’ll love it. We won’t lose the pillow top comfort of our mattress and we’ll have the addition of a comfy subzero degree mountain tent on top of it. Why it even has little folding shelves for books plus whatever else you might wish to keep inside.”

She put her hands on her hips. “You really expect me to sleep in some stuffy synthetic tent?”

“It’s not synthetic. It’s hand woven, the best in scientific achievement. Sir Edmund Hillary himself has even endorsed it. Plus it’s kind of romantic, sort of reminds me of Gregory Peck and Susan Hayward battling the elements in The Snows of Kilimanjaro. Talk about luxury living. You could even have a little plug in teapot and serve us chai tea without ever getting out of bed. The only thing lacking would be a Sherpa guide. You’d be resting in the lap of warm luxury.”

She was looking at me strangely. “You’ve had some odd ideas in the past, but this is one of the oddest.”

“Your lady friends will cheer and call you an environmental pioneer. And at night we could open that big side flap and watch DVD’s in comfort right here in our bedroom as though we were snuggling together at a drive in.”

“We haven’t been to a drive-in since before we got married. I don’t think they even exist around here anymore” She stopped, sighed, and as the toaster oven pinged, took my burrito out and set it on my plate. “I’d rather we went away to somewhere warm.”

“What for? Like I said, to come back to this subzero inhuman climate?” I tried showing her the picture of the interior of what I hoped would be our tent. Its exterior was bright red and sleek, with a slope in its zipper front. The thought of that warmth made me yawn with anticipation.

But all she saw was the price. “Why that tent costs over thirty five hundred dollars,” she gasped.

“Sir Edmunds endorsement doesn’t come cheap. But don’t think of the price per se; think instead in terms of it being less than our heating bill over the next three years. Besides it’s an heirloom numbered limited edition constructed in Tibet. Mall Mart always offers the least expensive price, elsewhere it would sell for closer to seven or eight thousand.”

“That’s just advertising,” she said.

“I know it will last us forever. You might not even want to take it down come summer.”

“I don’t want to sleep in a tent.” Her voice was adamant. “They’re stuffy and claustrophobic. And knowing you, in close quarters like that you’d start to snore.”

I dug into my burrito replete with garlic and melted goat cheese “You’re the one who’s always telling me to be flexible and open, to new foods like that Chinese cabbage. Not that I have anything personal mind you against vegetables.”

She spooned out her oatmeal, added frozen blueberries, and sat down to eat. “That’s very different,” she said. “That’s food.”

Herbal Tea Blends

Posted by Caiti Sullivan on January 25, 2017

A few weeks ago I finally got around to processing all of the herbs that I dried from the garden. I had stored them in individual ziploc bags with the air pressed out, but made time to break the leaves off of the stems for easier use. While I was working, I made some herbal tea blends that I’ve enjoyed immensely, and were also fantastic gifts! I put together a few blends of different flavors that I thought I might enjoy, so far I’ve been very pleased with the following ratios, and I’m looking forward to growing and drying more herbs for tea and cooking next year.

Here are the ratios of teas that I made:

Moon Tea

1/2 Mugwort

1/4 Peppermint

1/4 Holy basil

Holy Basil

3/4 Holy basil

1/4 Lemon basil

1/2 Sage

1/4 Rose petals

1/4 Lavender

Relax Tea

1/4 Chrysanthemum greens

1/4 Peppermint

1/4 Rose Petals

1/4 Lavender

I bought a bulk pack of re-useable tea bags, and also took a few extra minutes to make some cute labels for the different combinations. I steep each tea for about 3 minutes with boiling water, and they produce nice infusions for two to three uses. I also used these teas to make herbal wild fermented meads! They won’t be ready for some time yet, but I’m looking forward to the flavors. I used two tea bags per each 64 oz growler, and brewed a tea that I used to dilute 1/2 cup honey each. I’m really enjoying having dried herbs to play with for so many different projects.

How The Body Clears Energy

by Madisyn Taylor

When your body is physically ill, try treating your emotions too and view your body as a whole.

Whole-self well-being is, in part, the result of a harmonious flow of energy between our physical and mental selves. When this flow is thrown out of balance for any reason, the body and mind react to one another rather than act cooperatively. Ongoing stress, sadness, anxiety, excitement, and fear can overwhelm the cerebral self, causing traumatic energy to be channeled into the body. The body then responds by taking steps to organically dispel the energy that has burdened it and expressing it by means of physical symptoms such as illness, fatigue, or disease. In some cases, these symptoms can simply be allowed to run their natural course and recovery will come about naturally. In most instances, however, health and wellness can only be restored by a dual course of treatment that acknowledges both the physical manifestations of energy clearing and the underlying emotional causes.

Many of the ailments we experience over the course of our lives can be indicative of the body’s attempts to process intellectual and emotional energy. Swollen glands, for example, can signal that you are going through a period of emotional cleansing. Even something as simple as a pimple can indicate that your body is ridding itself of toxins and old energy. In Chinese medicine, intense emotions are held in the body’s organs as a matter of course. Grief lurks in the lungs, anger inhabits the liver, fretfulness lingers in the heart, worry is held in the stomach, and the kidneys harbor fright. Particular illnesses and symptoms represent the body’s attempts to clear emotional energy. Coughs or bronchitis can signify that the physical self is clearing away grief while a loss of appetite may signal that worry is being actively addressed.

When you feel ill or imbalanced, treating your whole self rather than treating the physical self alone can empower you to determine the root cause of sickness. Since you understand that your physical symptoms may be an expression of emotional discomfort, you can establish a balanced treatment regimen to ensure that you quickly recover your good health.

A Prayer to Loki

by ganglerisgrove

In the blistering furnace of our hearts,

may You be hailed.

In the fierce rantings of mind and memory,

may You be hailed.

In the tumultuous storm of our senses,

may we gasp, and chant, and sing Your praises.

May our lips burn with whispered adorations to You

May our bodies shake in the onslaught of Your presence.

Where You are honored, there be in all of Your glory.

Where You are reviled, there also be,

and work Your cunning wiles.

May You ever be the unquiet thought,

the unruly impulse, the unwary stirring

of holy cravings, the longing for internal revolution,

the descant-mad, dervish-driven

prophetic-spewing roar that drives us

ever and always, unceasingly, unmercifully

into the arms of our own liberation.

Hail Loki, Liberator,

cunning, wild, and wise.

May You ever be hailed.

Expanding Your Comfort Zone

by Madisyn Taylor

Your current comfort zone has served you, but it represents your behaviors and patterns from your past.

None of us are born with a guidebook that provides explicit rules for thought and behavior that will enable us to navigate life successfully. To cope with the myriad of complexities to which all of humanity is subject, we each develop a set of habits and routines that ground us, their continuity assuring us that life is progressing normally. Most of us know, whether instinctively or by experience, that transformations can be uncomfortable, but we always learn and gain so much. Any initial discomfort we experience when expanding our comfort zones diminishes gradually as we both become accustomed to change and begin to understand that temporary discomfort is a small price to pay for the evolution of our soul.

Your current comfort zone did, at one time, serve a purpose in your life. But it is representative of behaviors and patterns of thought that empowered you to cope with challenges of days past. Now, this comfort zone does little to facilitate the growth you wish to achieve in the present. Leaving your comfort zone behind through personal expansion of any kind can prepare you to take the larger leaps of faith that will, in time, help you refine your purpose. Work your way outward at your own pace, and try not to let your discomfort interfere with your resolve. With the passage of each well-earned triumph, you will have grown and your comfort zone will have expanded to accommodate this evolution.

Whether your comfort zone is living with your parents, or perhaps being too shy to socialize, or maybe it’s not realizing your spirit self–whatever it is, start small, and you will discover that venturing beyond the limited comfort zone you now cling to is not as stressful an experience as you imagined it might be. And the joy you feel upon challenging yourself in this way will nearly always outweigh your discomfort. As you continue to expand your comfort zone to include new ideas, activities, goals, and experiences, you will see that you are capable of stimulating change and coping with the fresh challenges that accompany it.

“We all come from the Goddess

And to Her we shall return

Like a drop of rain, going to the ocean”

“May the circle be open, but unbroken,

May the love of the Goddess be ever in your heart.

Merry Meet and Merry Part

And Merry Meet Again!”
