Peppermint Spell
Spell Date: Sunday, February 12, 2017

Take a bright green candle and some peppermint essential oil. Ground, center, and align. Anoint the candle with the oil from top to center and then from base to center; this is drawing in and attracting prosperity. Focus your entire mindfulness on this action. Know that you are charging the candle with your strength of intention.

When you are ready, begin to dance and clap and drum or rattle. Raise the power from the earth and call it down from the stars. Feel how it fills your whole self. You may feel like chanting:

“Peppermint and candle green, I call to make seen from unseen. Prosperity mine, By the power of nine!”

Chant these words a minimum of nine times. Then, to release the power into the charged candle, clap nine times and throw the power into the wick. Light it and the spell is released.

Ancestral Ceremony
Spell Date: Saturday, February 11, 2017

In the early morning, sit at your ancestral altar or before your family mantel. Concentrate on the photos of your family; focus on those who have crossed over. When you are ready to begin, clap your hands once to summon all of your genetic ancestors. While they are visiting, burn sandalwood or frankincense incense to bless them. Talk openly and freely about your hopes, dreams, fears, or troubles.

Speak fondly of any ancestors you have memories of. Think back to the times you shared. Finally, burn ancestral money paper—blank checks and copied bank statements—to transmute earthly wealth into spiritual currency for your ancestors to use in the afterlife. Clap your hands to end the ceremony.

For further luck, bless a bowl of fresh fruit with the incense smoke and then share the fruit with family and friends throughout the day.

A Full Moon Meditation
Spell Date: Friday, February 10, 2017

This full moon is accompanied by a lunar eclipse. An event such as this will create a great deal of energy in the environment around us, as well as inside us. This is a perfect time for meditation, problem-solving, and chanting. I would avoid casting any spells not just today but for two days before and after this eclipse as well.

Instead of doing spellwork, try this meditation. At the time of the eclipse, cover your altar with a gray cloth. Place three candles upon the altar in this order: one white, one black, and one white candle. Think of an issue in your life and light the first white candle. Next light the black candle and think of ways your issue might be solved. Lastly, light the second white candle. Does any particular way to solve your problem stand out in your mind now? If so, then there’s your answer.

Prosperity Spell
Spell Date: Thursday, February 9, 2017

Often we work with the element of earth for prosperity, but today, since the moon is in Leo, we’ll use the fire element. Choose some stones associated with both the element of fire and prosperity—stones such as pyrite and tiger’s eye. You can also use jewelry such as gold chains or bracelets, especially ones set with diamonds.

Gather as many stones and pieces of jewelry as you can and arrange them around the outside of a green candle in a heatproof container. Visualize the abundance you need— extra money to pay bills, perhaps, or a raise at work. See yourself comfortable. Light the candle and chant:
“By the stones and by the flame, Prosperity is mine to claim.”

Allow the candle to burn out completely. Keep the stones on your altar for as long as you like. If you used jewelry, wear it.

Clearing School Obstacles
Spell Date: Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Need to get back to school? Need some help overcoming obstacles in doing so? Try this spell for some added help.

In the middle of a heavy piece of paper, write what it is you want to accomplish educationally and circle it. Next, in the outside edges, write all of the things that are holding you back, such as money or time. Using a different colored ink, cross out those things one by one.

Now place a yellow candle in the middle of the paper and ring it with four green candles. Tonight, allow the green candles to burn down about an inch or so. Starting tomorrow, light all of the candles and allow them to burn for thirty minutes. Continue each night until they are gone. Now go out there and get to work. Put those helpful energies to use!

The North Wind Blows
Spell Date: Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Winter brings icy air, chilly nights, and tales of the bonechilling power of the north wind. In some parts of the country, the winter wind is called the hawk, and you definitely don’t want to be caught outside when the hawk is flying.

North is the direction of wisdom. In the face of adversity, we can hold on to wisdom, which sustains and grounds us. We can wrap ourselves in love and protection and face the winds of life, secure in the knowledge that we are always loved, guided, and protected.

Bundle yourself up, go outside, and invoke the power of the north wind. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you can use a fan to simulate a cold wind blowing. Say:

“Though the winds of change blow, I am protected wherever I go. In adversity and strife, I am in charge of my life.”

Spell for Courage and Pluck
Spell Date: Monday, February 6, 2017

Most of us can use a little boost of courage and support from time to time. Creating a courage talisman may be just the thing.

Work in the period leading up to a full moon. Begin by cutting two two-inch squares from a piece of red felt. Sew the squares together on three sides, then add the following: a pinch of dragon’s blood incense (for power), a small piece of labradorite (mental clarity), a small piece of blue ribbon (a prize!), and nine whole cloves (awareness and insight). For extra oomph, prick your finger and add a dab of your blood to the mixture. Sew the bag closed.

Consecrate and dedicate the talisman at high noon. Holding it in both hands, raise it to the sky and say:

“Talisman of pluck, I offer thee, And ask that you give nerve to me.”

Keep the talisman on your person, reflecting on it often.

Long Life
Spell Date: Sunday, February 5, 2017

Here is a spell to promote longevity and ward off illness.

Use a stone associated with longevity, such as agate, jade, a fossil, or petrified wood.

Dip the stone into saltwater, saying:

“I consecrate this stone of long life by water and earth. Long life, fill this sacred stone!”

Pass the stone through sage smoke, saying:

“I consecrate this stone of long life by fire and air. Long life, fill this sacred stone!”

Touch the stone to the top of your head, saying:

“Long life, fill my head!”

Then touch and fill your heart, hands, and feet.

Now place the stone anywhere on your body that disease runs in your family—for example, the breasts for breast cancer—saying:

“Sacred stone, protect me and keep me well.”

Do as many areas of the body as necessary.

Keep the stone on your altar. You can renew this spell periodically, always during a full or waxing moon.

Heartwings Love Notes 763 A Valentine to Loves Found
Heartwings says, “Each first love becomes a treasured memory.”

When I was in grade school I fell in love, or more accurately had a gigantic crush on a boy with blond hair named Teddy. I don’t think he even knew I existed, and I certainly made no advances toward him, being far too shy to do so. I simply gazed at him from afar and thought he was wonderful. In my seventh grade year another fair-haired boy I yearned over named Dana replaced Teddy in my heart. Some years later I discovered that before she met my father, many of my mother’s boyfriends had been blond, and I wondered if her predilections could have subconsciously influenced me in my choices.

My passion for blond men dissipated When I was sixteen another boy named Teddy though with brown hair, became my first real love. My parents labeled it puppy love, but I knew better. Our dates were conducted via the bus because neither of us had a license to drive. We danced in his parents’ living room to the tune of “Unforgettable,” and snuggled in the movies-it didn’t much matter what was on the screen. When he went away to camp for two weeks he wrote me each day and I waited anxiously by the door for the mailman. I wore his felt beanie with pins on it constantly, which drove my dear parents crazy. I was their oldest child and their initial experience with their children’s first loves.

My first husband and I met at a dance and fell in love quite quickly. I was a rather romantic seventeen-year-old senior in high school. He was from New York, a sophomore in college and quite sophisticated. Our love blossomed over the summer and culminated in an elopement the following year. This was exacerbated by my parents’ protective attitude They were not happy about our burgeoning relationship and had threatened to send me on a long trip the following summer to visit relatives abroad. They did what they thought best, though their antagonism probably fueled our passion. I was a young bride and soon a young mother. Our children became the focus of our marriage and of our love.

Now so many years later I look back on those early loves and I smile. In those days I knew so little of what love really was about. Most of how I viewed it came from romantic novels and magazines. With time and experience I learned about it for myself, and sometimes this was painful. Yet as I look back I have no regrets. I am married now to the love of my life. Our relationship has endured for nearly forty years. As I age I am grateful for his presence and for the love he brings to our days. As Shakespeare said, “Love is not love that alters when it alteration finds.” We have grown together, changed together, and remained together with all the joy and happiness that our experiences have brought to our relationship. He is my always valentine.

May you find love and valentines to bring you joy.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Domestic Tranquility: The Vacuum Cleaner

Tasha had just finished vacuuming the living room with the new vacuum she had been given by a friend who had moved away to live with her daughter. Seeming stronger and heavier than any we had ever had before, it moved across our rug like a Sherman tank rooting out dirt and grime from every fiber.
She smiled. “Doesn’t our rug look practically brand new?”
“Just as new as it did last night.” I foraged around in the fridge looking for a snack alternative to cheese.
“It was sweet of her to make a me present of her vacuum. It’s really quite special you know when someone you care for gives you their vacuum cleaner.”
She wheeled it into the bedroom and started it up. I gave up on the fridge and followed after her.
I scratched my head. This was a new thought. “You really think so?”
“Of course,” she said. “Having a good vacuum cleaner is essential. Without one think how dusty and dreadful our apartment would become. The only alternative would be to take the rugs outside and beat them by hand.”
She finished vacuuming. We rearranged some boxes so as to fit the new vacuum into the back of our closet. “Thank you for helping me find a good place to keep it.”
“I never knew you felt that way.”
She sat down at her computer. “Which way?”
“Your passion for vacuums. It’s really touching to hear you speak so well of them. And when you finished vacuuming you seemed so fulfilled and peaceful. Now I know what to surprise you with under the tree come Christmas.”
She looked at me oddly. “What are you talking about?”
“Finding you old rare vacuum cleaners. Not those fly-by-night cheapo’s from China we see at the mall. I’d like to start building you a collection of classics, like the ones my mother used. An assortment you can show off proudly to your friends.”
Her eyes widened. “You must be kidding.”
“No, really, I’m not. Can’t you just imagine the wall behind our loveseat with old rare vacuums displayed there within easy reach the way men mount their rifles, their swords, even their fishing rods.”
“Not mention their fish,” she added.
“And then when the grandchildren come visit each could use one and we’d play find the dirt.”
She turned away took out one of her cookbooks and began to peruse it.
But I wasn’t finished. “Remember that guy in Virginia? He collected rare hubcaps and mounted them all over the walls of his condo. Why shouldn’t you do the same?”
She made a face. “His wife left him Maybe that was why”. She turned the pages. “This looks like an interesting way to fix chicken.”
I smiled. “I’ll start by finding an Electrolux from the 1950’s. Remember them? They looked like rocket ships. My mother loved hers. Even brought it with her when we’d summer at my grandmother’s in Narragansett Pier.”
She frowned. “Why do you keep on this way? Are you making fun of me?”
“Not at all! Graham Greene’s novel Our Man In Havana is all about a vacuum cleaner being perceived as a bomb.”
She looked up at me and nodded. “Yes. Alec Guinness was in that movie. It was funny.”
I went over and hugged her. “This is a new idea for us, but to me it makes ultimate good sense. Why after a few years if we keep at it one day you could even open a small vacuum cleaner museum. I know there’s already one or two somewhere else but not anywhere around here. People will come from miles just like they go to Worcester to see the museum of plumbing.”
She closed her cookbook, looked at me, and shook her head. I wondered if there was some fallacy to my idea.
Her voice was firm. “I don’t want to open a vacuum cleaner museum. I think the idea is ludicrous. If anyone heard you talk like that they’d think there was something wrong with your head.”
I persisted. “But think of it as a fitting tribute, a remembrance to American domesticity, the essence of the patriarchy. Wow! I’ll bet we could apply for grants and gain a following. Besides doing that would be so cool. We could go to the museum in Worchester and see how they display toilets and related plumbing fixtures. Plus I’ve heard there’s even a museum near Fitchburg we could visit that displays a wide assortment of plastic. Ours would fit right in and become a trendy place to visit.”
She looked at me, shook her head and smiled. “Now I know you’re teasing me.”
I leaned back in my chair. “Not really. Do you have any idea the tax advantages we could get from opening a museum? Plus once you have a large collection you’d have a vacuum for any task. People could consult with you as to which kind to use for what. You could pick and choose like selecting the right golf club for the best approach to the tee.”
She stood and put her hands on her hips. “One really is enough.”
I shook my head. “I’m sure that the one we have works well for everyday rugs. But in addition to it wouldn’t you like one of those sleek old hand held Hoovers that could get behind picture frames and clean diabolical germs from out-of-the-way crevices? My mother had one of those and the house was so clean none of us hardly ever caught colds, unless we visited people with less effective vacuums than hers.”
She took a chocolate bar from her desk, opened it and gave me half. “I never knew that about your mother.”
“When I was a kid if I dared cough she’d consider putting me in quarantine. Her war on germs was intense.
Tasha took a bite of her chocolate bar and chuckled.
“Eventually you could even have one of those expensive robotic vacuums we see in catalogues. And just think, your daughters would be so proud thinking of their mother as the First Lady of Vacuuming. Why you might even make the cover of People Magazine.”
She looked at me and smiled. “Go on and eat your chocolate. I know perfectly well you’re kidding.” She came over and gave me a hug. “You are truly my good humorist, and I love you for it.”

Choose Love
by Madisyn Taylor

Make all decisions from pure love and the world will change.

Love is often presented as the opposite of fear, but true love is not opposite anything. True love is far more powerful than any negative emotions, as it is the environment in which all things arise. Negative emotions are like sharks swimming in the ocean of love. All things beautiful and fearful, ugly and kind, powerful and small, come into existence, do their thing, and disappear within the context of this great ocean. At the same time, they are made of the very love in which they swim and can never be separated. We are made of this love and live our whole lives at one with it, whether we know it or not.

It is only the illusion that we are separate from this great love that causes us to believe that choosing anything other than love makes sense or is even possible. In the relative, dualistic world of positive and negative, darkness and light, male and female, we make choices and we learn from them. This is exactly what we are meant to be doing here on earth. Underlying these relative choices, though, is the choice to be conscious of what we are, which is love, or to be unconscious of it. When we choose to be conscious of it, we choose love. We will still exist in the relative world of opposites and choices and cause and effect, and we will need to make our way here, but doing so with an awareness that we are all made of this love will enable us to be more playful, more joyful, more loving and wise, as we make our way. Ultimately, the choices we make will shed light on the love that makes us all one, enabling those who have forgotten to return to the source.

This world makes it easy to forget this great love, which is part of why we are here. We are here to remember and, when we forget to remember again, to choose love.
