Happy Friday, Wonderfully Witchy people!
After all of this feelings-honoring and asking for help and boundary setting, who wouldn’t welcome the chance for a little rest and relaxation, right?
Time to recharge is absolutely essential for empaths, as a drained empath may turn into an anxious, nervous, depressed (or even narcissistic!) mess.
It’s no surprise that so many empaths are also introverts – time away from the hustle & bustle of other people’s energy and feelings is one of the easiest ways to help us refresh and renew.
What if you’re not an introverted empath? Well, fear not, because the amount of time you spend on re-charging is completely up to you. Some helpful things for empaths to do include:
- Breathing exercises
- Tai Chi or Qi Gong
- Taking a bath (epsom or bubble or bath bomb – you do you!)
- Journalling (I like filling out Listography books!)
- Guided meditation
- Getting out in nature
- Smoke cleansing with sage or sweetgrass (also known as *smudging)
Empath Affirmation: I lovingly cleanse and recharge my energy.
If you want to do another hobby you enjoy, like shopping, watching movies, reading, or playing video games, please remember that while these things might relax us, they could also risk influencing our emotional state. It’s up to you; I know I’ve read to relax and recharge, only to be devastated by a plot point in a book or TV series. Ha!
Regardless of what you do, the most important thing is that you take some time for yourself to revitalize your energy.
(* A note on smudging: As a Native American, I prefer the term “smoke cleansing” to smudging, since the act of smudging frequently has specific cultural connotations in Native American communities. A lot of people still use the term “smudging” colloquially, though, including Native Pagans. Some of us prefer to make the distinction, but not everyone does!)
