Remember the ancient ways and keep them sacred!
Live each Season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. ~Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862)
NOTE: Because of the large number of ancient calendars, many in simultaneous use, as well as different ways of computing holy days (marked by the annual inundation, the solar year, the lunar month, the rising of key stars, and other celestial and terrestrial events), you may find these holy days celebrated a few days earlier or later at your local temple.

Monday – Day of Emotions ( Day of the Moon )

Monday Magick Power Hours: Moonrise. Key Words:

Magick, dreams, health, love, home and family In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked.

Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like psychism, dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

GrannyMoon Says Today Is: Tiu’s Day – the day of Mars…also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose Magickal  influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Solar Peaceful Warrior Spell
Spell Date:  Sunday, October 18, 2015

Blessed Sun-day! Time for some solar magick in honor of today’s planetary ruler. Many people have a powerful solar-aligned anointing oil in their kitchen and are totally unaware of it. Olive oil has potent alignments with the sun, masculinity, and the element of fire. Many associate such qualities with aggression, but they need not, especially when working with the powers of Olive, which is also associated with peace.

Today, using solar energy and the power of olive oil, let us light a candle in honor of walking the path of the peaceful warrior. Anoint a yellow candle with olive oil. Light it, and as you watch its radiant glow, recite the following:

“By power of masculine sun,
Radiant, shining, fiery protective one,
And by peaceful power of Olive,
Powerful and certain progress can be won.
Gently and assertively along the road, I shall proceed in this mode.”

A Mirror Banishment Spell
Spell Date:  Saturday, October 17, 2015

Use this spell to remove a problem or a bad habit from your life. You’ll need a small mirror, lipstick or a non-permanent marker, and some dried basil.

Sit at your altar and gaze at the mirror but don’t look directly into it. Visualize your problem and how it affects you. Then see yourself free of this habit/problem. Do this for no more than ten minutes. Now write your problem on the mirror with the lipstick or marker. Lay the mirror on your altar, and sprinkle dried basil around it. Leave the mirror undisturbed overnight.

The next morning, discard the basil, and using soap and water, or window cleaner, wipe the writing off the mirror. Even after the mirror appears clean, continue rubbing it vigorously. Visualize your problem being wiped out of your life. When done, wrap your mirror in a light blue cloth and keep for other spells.

Banish Sleep Inertia Spell
Date: Friday, October 16, 2015

Do you have trouble waking up in the morning? Do you feel as if you’re still asleep for a while after getting out of bed? That feeling has a name: sleep inertia. Physically, it has to do with your body struggling to adjust its metabolic phase, especially if you’re awakened from a deep sleep. Metaphysically, it’s about your spirit settling back into your body after its nightly journeying to other planes.

To fight sleep inertia, first turn on bright lights. Hold a piece of onyx in your receptive (usually left) hand. Concentrate on grounding yourself fully in your body. Wiggle your toes and fingers a little. Then hold a piece of carnelian in your projective (usually right) hand. Focus on increasing your energy level. Stand up and move around. You may want to turn on lively music at this stage. Keep the stones by your bedside for use each morning.

Waxing Moon Bath
Spell Date:  Thursday, October 15, 2015

Bring a moonstone (or many moonstones) into the bath or shower with you (or wear moonstone jewelry). This spell draws upon the power of the waxing moon and is intended to increase your personal power. If you have a tub, put the stones in the water with you. Otherwise, wear them or place them nearby. Moonstones are associated with water and have strong feminine energy; combine all of these to supercharge your bath or shower and give your personal energy a magical boost. Light candles in the room as desired. While you wash, know that you’re immersing yourself in moon-water. Repeat nightly through the full moon phase, if desired. Here’s a chant you can use to help visualize the process:

“Waxing moon, growing power,
water of the bath or shower,
Wash my body, touch my skin,
magic flowing out and in.”

Cemetery Spellcrafting
Spell Date:  Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Find a peaceful cemetery in your area to visit. At dusk, bring an offering of herbs, alcohol (or juice), bread, fruit, or grain. Find an isolated area to be seated, and enter a state of somber, reflective meditation. You may choose to wear black and even a veil.

When the time is right, hold your offering high above your head and declare the following or something similar:

“Oh great and powerful dead, I honor your life and understand my own mortality. I leave you this offering so that you may be at peace. May I be granted the same in my journey on earth as well as my journey after death. So mote it be.”

Meditate on the energy of death. If you feel comfortable, consider performing some communication with the angel Azrael, he who oversees the life cycle. As per tradition, once you leave your offering in the cemetery, be sure not to look back as you leave.

Autumn Storage
Spell Date:  Wednesday, October 14, 2015

This time of year signals the need to prepare for winter. It is time to take stock and begin to clean and put away the items used only in the summer. In modern times, this would include such things as lawnmowers and pool equipment. All of these things can be cleaned and stored with intent, bringing the magic of the everyday into your life.

For many of us, connecting to the seasonal shifts isn’t really experienced through the planting or livestock cycles anymore. We do, however, have our own seasonal cycles, and we can use these to connect to the greater energy shifts of the earth. Even something as mundane as packing away swimsuits can be an opportunity to connect with the energy shift.
Simply reminisce about summer and gradually shift focus to concentrate on the here and now, then visualize the coming winter.

Heartwings Love Notes 694: Hospitality

Heartwings says, “Those who enjoy cooking at home may also appreciate a good restaurant meal.”

As she does whenever she comes to the States, our friend from Denmark was visiting us. Over a lunch I had enjoyed making for us all, we had had a good time catching up on our recent activities. As we finished the meal, she was exclaiming over the food, saying how good it was and how happy she was to be with us and sharing it. “I love cooking for my friends,” I replied.  I do. It is one of my favorite occupations. Stephen and I both enjoy entertaining friends, and making meals for them is a big part of my joy.

She commented that she too enjoyed cooking for her friends. She then went on to say that her experience here in the States was that when entertaining, many people seemed to prefer taking people out to eat rather than preparing food for them at home. She said that in Europe it was more common to entertain guests at home and less common to take them to a restaurant. I thought this was an interesting commentary, and I wondered what it indicated about Americans.

Thinking back I remember that when my parents entertained it was usually for cocktails before dinner. Afterward our guests either went home or to a restaurant. My mother did not like to entertain and seldom had people for dinner parties. She had had a lot of that as a young child in her parents home and had been as it were inoculated against it. Her mother had given her all sorts of jobs to do related to making ready for guests, none of which she particularly enjoyed.

My first husband didn’t care to entertain either. We had one big party a year and that was about it. My cooking was confined to the family. I have found it to be refreshingly different to have Stephen for a partner. He has always loved to entertain and there have been many times in our lives together when I never knew how many of us would be sitting down to dinner. Because I have plenty of supplies on hand, this has never bothered me. To be sure, I enjoy dining out, especially as someone’s guest, however I am very happy to eat loving prepared home cooking.

May you enjoy sharing with friends how ever you choose to do so.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Bless Our Hearts

Everybody is trying to do the right thing, doing the best we can with what we’ve got.

But we’re all trying too hard, working against ourselves and each other, constantly.

Bless our hearts.

We get on each other’s nerves so much.

We are over stimulated, too much coming in. We haven’t processed the last overwhelming series of events when the next wave hits us.

In desperation the walls go up, armor goes on. Pick up the sword. Stop the invading hoards. Protect ourselves and those we love. Attack!

But here’s the real solution: Stop, reflect, take the armor off.

Create a sacred time for yourself to find peace in the moment.

Escape to your true self.

The time you are wasting worrying could be moments of letting go, communion, peace, a time for contemplating love, revealing it in yourself to yourself.

The Winning Ticket, Part 2
by Stephen Halpert

Maggie Flowers was walking on the beach in Provincetown when she noticed something shiny bobbing on the waves. Peering at it, she saw it was a bottle.

Must have floated in from one of the yachts in the harbor, she groused. Can’t people recycle? She waded in knee deep to retrieve it and was surprised to see something inside. A message in a bottle, she chuckled. Wasn’t there a movie recently called that?

She gathered it up, dried off and walked back to her condo off Commercial Street. After she cut away the wax and extracted the paper she discovered it was a check on a Long Island bank for a million seven. It was made out to one Sam Chase. He had endorsed it.

Maggie wondered if he were the same Sam Chase whose poetry she had read in Raven and other literary quarterlies?  There was nothing else in the bottle, no message.

She went to her bank, opened a special account and deposited it, less thirty thousand dollars she kept in cash. Then on her way home she stuffed hundred dollar bills in neighbors mailboxes. Secret Santa strikes again, she grinned.

Later that night Maggie Flowers called Sam. She had found his number on the internet. “Hello?”“ he said. Who’s this?”

‘You don’t know me,“ she began. “I’m Maggie Flowers and just calling to say thank you for all that money I found in the bottle and to see if everything’s all right by you. ”

He’d had no qualms about putting the check in that bottle; though he’d half expected to hear from the bank as to why he hadn’t deposited it.

“Maggie Flowers the poet?”

That made her smile. Though a poet most of her life she didn’t think of herself as being well known with a following. “Yes, that’s me. I’m just calling to ask you why?”

“Why what?“

“Why put a million bucks in a bottle and throw it into the ocean? Were you drunk?”

He chuckled. “Sober as a judge.”

“Then why?“

That made him stop to think. “You and I, we’re poets,” he began. “We embrace and protect the simplicity of our lives. The morning after my winning made the evening news I had quantities of nasty, demanding phone calls. People I didn’t know, charities I’d never heard of, everyone wanted some. Everyone felt entitled,” except, he thought Jeff and his sister. So I simplified the situation and put it in the bottle.“

“Yes. In an odd way what you’re saying makes sense. That much money can change one’s life.”

“Whereabouts are you?“

“Provincetown at the tip of the Cape. Ever been here?”

“I heard Stanley Kunitz read there before he died. I always thought it was overpriced.“

She chuckled. ‘Where isn’t?”

“So really, why did you put it in a bottle?”

I just didn’t want to be bothered. I have everything I need and mainstream society never especially impressed me. I saw no need to go treading  into jungles.“

“Well I won’t bother you.”

“Oh you can bother me. You were a Yale Younger Poet, you’re incredibly gifted.“

“So are you.” That took him by surprise.

“I thought your Meatballs at Coney Island was brilliant. You remind me of Ferlinghetti mixed with Snyder.“

“Thank you.  I’ll take that as a compliment. Your style resembles Mary Oliver.”

“You’re flattering me.“

He looked at her picture on the cover of the current Raven. “Foothills to Immortality, says it all,” he said.  “So why are you calling me?“

Ok she thought, the moment of truth. “I’d like you to help me give away the money. It’s yours after all.”

“You’re going to give it away? That’s great. Sure.“

“But in a secret Santa sort of way. I already put hundred dollar bills in my neighbors mailboxes.”

“So come help me.”

He laughed. Ever read Terry Southern’s The Magic Christian? His character played comical games with cash. He had a truckload of it put into a gigantic vat and then covered it in dung and watched while people jumped in to get some.“

That made her laugh. “I went to Smith and would be expected to build hospitals.”

He looked at the blank spaces on his calendar. “I think I’ll come for a visit. When would be a good time?”

“Soon,“ she said. “Soon as you can. I wouldn’t want it burning a hole in my checkbook.”

They agreed on the coming weekend, chatted a while longer, and said good night. They both went to bed feeling a little warmer and more content than usual.

That Saturday they sat across from one another at The Limping Hen, her favorite coffee shop, near Commercial Street. He liked her. She was short, pear shaped with a thick mop of multi colored hair piled high on her head. Her eyes were gentle, sky blue; colorful bracelets that must have come from a carnival decorated her arms.

They ordered sandwiches, green tea.

“Isn’t it amazing how addictive money can be to the human psyche?“

He sighed. “Yes like cocaine but legal until it becomes lethal. ”

She nodded. “You mean that don’t you? My gracious but you’re a proletarian from the ’30’s.”

“Not many of us left.“ He bit into his sandwich. “Can’t help it though. Just see what it’s done to people with too much and how it can effect those with too little.”

“Not to change the subject, “ she said “but when are you going to publish your collected poems?”

“Never thought about it. They get  published in magazines and that seems sufficient.“

”“Who are you, the reincarnation of Henry David Thoreau?”

“Oh I wouldn’t go that far.“

“Oh I most certainly would,” she said. “You’re an unknown treasure.”

” Book publishing is expensive. Do you know what it costs to print even something modest like a chapbook?“

Her face reddened. “But we’ve got close to two mill. I think we could afford to print a collected poems for each of us.”

“You’d prefer that to a trip around the world or a villa in Greece?“

“What would I want  that for? I live in Provincetown. Where else could any intelligent person ever want to be?”

After lunch she gave him a walking tour from the tower to the harbor.

“If he were alive Thoreau would live here today,” he said.

She smiled. “I’ll tell you what.  “It’s a very special place and I hear you about money’s addictive aspects.  Let’s hang onto enough to publish our collected poems then write a check for the rest, put it in a bottle, go for a whale watch and toss it overboard?”

He grinned. “I think that’s a wonderful idea.”

They walked back to his car. He looked into her sky blue eyes and knew he’d be back.

About The Morning Feast and – The teachings here are based on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
