Monday – Day of Emotions ( Day of the Moon )

Monday Magick Power Hours:

Moonrise. Key Words: Magick, dreams, health, love, home and family In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked.

Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like psychism, dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Monday is the Best Day For: Conjurations, Predictions, Knowledge, Writing, Eloquence. Planetary Association: Moon Norse Deity Associated With the Day: Frigga Origin of Name: “Monday” is short for “Moon Day” in honor of the day’s alignment with that planetary body.

Today’s Goddess:  Diana
Festival of Diana (Rome)

Themes:  Fertility; Children; Providence; Abundance; Harvest
Symbols: Moon; Water; Forest Items; Sun

About Diana:  This Roman goddess embodies the moon’s fertility and watery aspects,
along with the sun’s protective and nurturing power over the forests and its creatures.
On this day she was celebrated in Rome, and she will be remembered in our hearts
as the huntress who helps us capture the spiritual “food” we need.

To Do Today:  Starting on August 13, the Romans had a weeklong festival for Diana,
praying to her for the harvest’s bounty, and to turn damaging storms away. The traditional
place to leave an offering of fruit or vines for her is in the forest, or at a crossroads.

As you do, if any stone or leaf catches your eye, pick it up and carry it as a charm
that will keep Diana’s power with you that entire day.  Come night, release the gift to
flowing water or back to the earth with a prayer of thanks and a wish for one of Diana’s
attributes that you wish to develop in your life.

It is also customary to light some fire source to honor her on August 15 or anytime during
the festivities.  Afterward, to generate this goddess’s physical or figurative fertility within you,
follow Roman convention and wash your hair with specially prepared water (water to which
just a little milk is added so that it looks white, like the moon).  If you have children, doing
this for them incurs Diana’s protection over their lives.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies – Divine Calling Spell

This spell helps you realize your divine calling by increasing the self-empowering energy reflected by this Leo New Moon with the Sun in Virgo. Have ready one gold candle, one green candle, and seven brown candles.

At 11:30 pm, burn cedar incense. Anoint the candles from wick to end with clove oil. Place one brown candle in the center, the green on the right, and the gold on the left. Light the gold candle for confidence, the green candle for luck and prosperity, and the brown candle to attain your divine calling.

Let the candles burn down. Every night for a week, light a new brown candle. Imagine yourself enthusiastically engaged in your calling. Let the candle burn down. Actively seek your calling by day.

Heartwings Love Notes 688: Gifts of the Moment

Heartwings says, “Keep your eyes open for the present that awaits you in the moment at hand.”

I was standing at the supermarket counter choosing some fish for the chowder I was planning to make when I noticed the lobster on the shelf in front of me. It was already cooked, packaged and priced. Stephen loves lobster and this week it was on sale. Since I had nothing special planned for supper the lobster would make a fine treat for him. I was happy to provide him with this nice surprise.

As I made my way to the checkout to pay for my groceries I thought about how glad I was that just at that moment I had been paying attention to my surroundings. If my mind had been wandering and my thoughts elsewhere I might easily have missed an opportunity to provide us with an extra helping of joy. Bringing someone you love a special treat constitutes a treat for the giver as well as the person receiving it, a win/win situation.

The gifts that lie within any given moment are only available to me when my eyes are open to see them. If my mind is occupied with thoughts or speculations, with worries or apprehensions there is no way I can pay attention to what is around me. At that point my eyes are figuratively turned inward, paying attention to whatever I am thinking of, not looking outward at what is there. Once when I spoke to someone about the lovely colors of that year’s fall, she looked at me sadly and confessed that she had been so lost in her thoughts and concerns she had never noticed.

Meditating regularly has certainly helped me stay mentally focused. Observing my thoughts as I learned to do in meditation gives me the option of letting them flow as they will or of refocusing my attention on where I am and what I am doing. Sometimes it is perfectly all right to let  my mind wander about. As long as I am not driving or doing something else requiring my full attention my mind can do what it pleases. Even so, I find that keeping at least some of my attention on the present moment can often pay off in gifts.

May you enjoy the gifts that the present moment brings you.

Blessings and best regards, Tasha Halpert

Murder In Grafton Center, Part 4
by Stephen Halpert

The next morning it was raining. I sat in the breakfast nook of my second floor apartment on Marlborough Street reading the morning Globe. On the obituary page it said Bob’s Memorial Service was scheduled on Saturday at the Unitarian Church in Grafton Center.

I warmed up a raspberry Danish and brewed a pot of French roast. The doorbell rang.

Sherry Burke, Boston’s eminent female private eye stood there looking helpless. “It’s a deluge out there.” She smiled, came in, shed her rainwear and proceeded to check out my humble abode. “I love this apartment. If you ever decide to move to Cambridge I’ll sublet from you.”

I laughed. “Never happen. Gypsy likes her own space and I like having mine.”

She turned and looked at me very intently. “Do you think Bob died of natural causes?”

“I haven’t decided yet.” I gestured toward the leather club chair by the window. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?”

“Jeff wanted you to see this.” She reached into her red leather bag and handed me a blue memory stick. “Bob’s computer was hacked. Many of his files were deleted. Take a look.”

“How’d you get this?”

“After you came back up from his office with that wench hanging from your arm we went downstairs. Bob’s computer was on. Jeff downloaded his hard drive. And guess what? All the correspondence and research about Honey Acorn Cordial was missing.” She sighed. “Is that coffee I smell?”

“Want a cup?”

“Thanks.” She sat down and looked out over Marlborough Street.

I served us two cups of French Roast and a plate of warmed raspberry Danish.  Then I inserted the memory stick into my computer.

“Did you notice anyone coming up from the basement just before or after I did?”

“No. Why?” She looked at me quizzically.

I told her about my sensing someone leaving Bob’s office. Then I mentioned Tony Staccato’s interest in Bob’s death.“

Sherry frowned. “Why would a Revere mob boss care about the death of a resident of Grafton?”

“Why indeed?”

The rain beat harder against the windrows.

As she had said, the contents of the Honey Acorn Cordial folder had been deleted along with a few dozen other documents. I looked up at Sherry. “Feel like taking a ride?”

“In this rain?” She grinned. “Sounds romantic, but only if I can drive my new Volvo. Where to?”

“Grafton Center.” I got my raincoat.

Sherry giggled. “You look like Dick Tracy in that.”

As we were nearing exit 11 on the Pike Sherry said, “Don’t look back but we’re being followed. About five car lengths back, it’s the same maroon SUV I saw parked across the street from your apartment.” But when we turned onto Brigham Hill Road, the SUV stayed on route 122. The rain had stopped.

Bob’s friend and neighbor Ernest Dickens lived at the top of Wild Elk Road. Sherry’s GPS said it was a simple left off Brigham Hill Road. What it failed to convey was that Wild Elk Road was a steep unpaved quarter-mile incline carved into the side of a small mountain.

Sherry downshifted adroitly. Finally we pulled up to a run down shack near a solid one-story brick building with small slits for windows. An old man with a tanned, wrinkled face sat in a rocker on a dilapidated porch. He wore a Red Sox tee shirt, jeans and red sneakers. His face was turned up to the sky.

We got out and approached him. The place was surrounded with thorny flowering bushes covered in bees. He pressed his index finger to his lips. “Best not to make a sound until we know what the spirits have to say.”

Sherry’s eyes brightened. “You talk to spirits?”

“When they want to talk to me, I do. Sometimes they make me wait a long time though.”

He looked at us, squinted into the emerging sun and rocked. “Are you Tony Staccato?”

“No! I’m Dancer, a friend of Bob’s.”

Dickens nodded and looked upward. “Bob said his friends would be stopping by.” He reached into a canvas sack beside the rocker, pulled out two bottles with ornate labels and handed one to each of us. It designed label read Honey Acorn Cordial. He grinned at Sherry and said conspiratorially. “The squirrels know the secrets of the acorns.”

“”Secrets?” She asked.

He chortled. “Prometheus is reborn by their power.” He pointed at the long low brick building. “But Bob’s gone. Left me holding the bag.” He looked up into the sky and mumbled incoherently.

Then he grinned and looked mischievously at Sherry. “You learn a lot when you tend the bees and gather the acorns.”

He waved at the low brick building. “Got enough made up to sell to that cruise line for years. Only Bob never told me where its supposed to be shipped.”

My cell phone chimed. It was Jenkins. “Just got a call from Inspector Mallory in Grafton Center. Patience Worthington drowned in Bob’s pond earlier this morning.”

“How does someone drown in four feet of muddy water?”

“I asked Mallory that same question. He said it could happen anywhere. Someone goes wading, falls, hit their head on a rock, losses consciousness, and drowns. Simple as that.”

“I don’t buy it.”

“Neither do I  but right now there isn’t any evidence to the contrary.”

My mother is the South Cloud.
My father is the North Cloud
I was born in the sky.
I am the Woman of Clouds
I have come to you because
you are needed in this world.
Trees need you to bring them to life.
People need you to comfort them.
Don’t refuse what I ask of you.
Believe me. The world calls out to you.
~Achomawi song, Northern California

We marvel at the immense variety of snowflakes. Human beings are infinitely more diverse
and unique, yet we take this beautiful individuality for granted. Without each individual, the
world is a less complex and fascinating place. From the great playful creativity of the Goddess,
you were created. Would the Goddess waste her time?

We are, each of us, utterly unique in this world. Each of us is a special child of the earth,
a constellation of talents and beauties and desires that has never been see before.
Each of us is beautiful and necessary. The world needs us, each of us. If we treated both
ourselves and each other as if we truly believed that, would this world be a better place?
