Honoring the Goddess Every Day at GoddessSchool.com!

Lady,

Your chalice is full–
lucid, inviolate.
Your ancient eyes reflect eternity’s
blue roses and
mirror the mysteries
hidden within my heart–
like a song unremembered;
a breath of thought.
Head high You dance the circle;
dance and reawaken longing.
Satisfied, complete yet untouched,
Your smile proclaims the dawn.

Meditations
Smell the freshness of the morning. Now close your eyes and let it take you where it will.

Daily Affirmations
In the Name of the Maiden: I will remember harm none by thought, word, or deed.

Closing Prayer
Thanks to Thee Bright Maiden for Thy care,
for Thy green laughter and fire-edged dew and
for Thy blessing, a most precious jewel.

In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

GrannyMoon Says Today Is: Tiu’s Day or Tyr’s Day!

The day of Mars…also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose Magickal influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Tuesday comes under the influence of Mars, the planet associated with vitality, passion, ambition, and raw, unabashed power.

Mars energy makes the mind acute, and the body restless; therefore, on Tuesday we are likely to exert ourselves physically and take action to achieve goals. This day is dynamic and high-spirited, and the prevailing energies may include carelessness and destructiveness as well, so it is good to be cautious—especially while traveling.

Tuesday is the proper day of the week for spell work based on justified wrath, wearing red and using iron or amethyst. Money, enemies, courage, energy. Wear a ruby, star sapphire, or emerald. Use topaz in amulets.

Today’s Magickal Influences ~ Destination, War, Courage, Surgery, Physical Strength

Today’s Goddesses: Aset [Isis], Soorejnaree, Pingalla, Anna, Aine, Danu, Yngona, Bellona, Aida Wedo, Sun Woman

Perfumes: Hellebore, Carnation, Patchouli

Incense:   Lignum Aloes, Plantain

Color of The Day: Red

Heads Up For Tomorrow: Green, brown, amethyst, yellow

Lucky Sign: Tuesday Is The Lucky Day For Aries

Candle: Red

Heads Up For Tomorrow: Wear Green and Silver

Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays
And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

Chinese and Japanese: Festival of the Heavenly Weaver-Girl

Chih Nu, Chinese Festival of the Milky Way. Lay out under the stars tonight and feel yourself a part of the spinning galaxy. In China, the annual Feast of the Milky Way (Chih Nu) takes place each year on this day to celebrate the romantic encounter between Vega the Weaver Maid and Aquila the Herd Boy.

In Japan, the Tanabata (Star Festival) takes place annually on this day and celebrates the reunion of the two celestial lovers who bridged a raging river with their own bodies.

Roman: Feast of Juno

July 3-August 15. This was recognized by the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Arabians and Polynesians. The Dog Days of Summer takes it’s name from the rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. The ancient words which we translate as “the Dog Star” could also be interpreted as “the little bitch bringing heat.” This is the hottest period in the Northern hemisphere of Earth.

Goddess For Today: Kamuhata Hime
Weaving Festival (Japan)

Themes:  Love; Arts; Relationships; Devotion; Romance
Symbols: Woven Items

About Kamuhata Hime: A Japanese Goddess of Weaving, Kamuhata Hime braids the strands of fate to help out anyone seeking solid relationships.  Through her careful, artistic eye, she binds devotion with love into a beautiful, strong tapestry between two committed people.

To Do Today:  The Tanabat weaving festival is a traditional day for marriage in China, commemorating the time when two stellar deities meet and celebrate their love, thanks to the help of celestial magpies who build a winged bridge across the Milky Way, bringing them together this one day out of the year.

Stargazing is a favorite activity that you can participate in, watching as Kamuhata Hime weaves the heavens into a feast for the eyes and soul.  As you gaze out into the stars, watch closely the area of the Milky Way.  If you see a shooting star, make a wish for love or the improvement of a relationship, and Kamuhata Hime will answer it.

If you’re thinking of deepening your commitment to someone, tonight is an excellent time to recite your promises to each other beneath the stars.  As you do, braid three strands of cloth or yarn, making a vow at each juncture.  Keep this as a Kamuhata Hime amulet to protect the love and devotion in your relationship.  Unbind this if the two of you ever part ways.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies ~ Talking-to-Ancestors Ritual

This is a wonderful time to connect to, and ask for messages from, our ancestors. Begin your work by finding a few pictures of an ancestor you want to contact. Place these pictures on your altar, and light some ceremonial candles. Then make some dream tea (two parts valerian, two parts hops, one part mugwort, and one part licorice). You can find loose herbs at any health food store. After brewing a good cup, drink it while visualizing the qualities and other traits of your ancestors. Then say:

Healing tea, let me sleep.
Bring me messages from the deep.

Ask for messages from these relatives, and then lie down to sleep. In the morning write down your dreams. You will likely have had a visitor.

Heartwings Love Notes 678 Happy Anniversary To Us

Heartwings says, “When you truly love someone it is best to be honest about your feelings.”

On July 5,1980 beneath a beautiful Copper Beech, Stephen and I were married. After nearly three years together we made the decision to do so because we wanted to show the world you could be married and still be lovers. After 35 years we are still both. As well, we are best friends. To some extent this is due to a decision we made at my insistence very soon after we met: we agreed to be honest with one another about our feelings.

I felt then and feel even more strongly now that a good, long lasting relationship must be built on honesty in general but especially when it comes to feelings. There are times when it is painful to be honest about how one feels. However, if one does not share the feelings they can grow into resentment and then anger. If instead the feeling is shared, this does not happen.

Change can be optional. What matters is that the feelings are expressed. Sometimes it is impossible to alter behavior, especially if it is an ingrained part of his or her nature. For instance, I will probably always have a tendency to wait to leave for an appointment until the last minute, thus frustrating Stephen. He will doubtless always collect things, resulting in piles and crowded living space.

It is also important to state one’s feelings without blaming. It is unkind and unrealistic to say, “You make or have made me uncomfortable/angry/upset, etc. Owning the feelings, saying, “I feel uncomfortable, angry, upset, etc. because…is a much more effective way to deliver the message. It also helps to be as tactful as possible. I’ve had to work to learn tact because I did not come by it naturally.

Generous measures of patience, tolerance and kindness toward one another have been vital to the longevity of our relationship. Also important is that we do not compete with one another. Each rejoices over the triumphs of the other, nor is there any jealousy or envy between us. When you truly love someone it is their happiness that matters. As well, so does yours. In our years together we have tried always to give each other room to grow. Our love for one another is the fertile soil that makes that happen.

May your relationships flourish with the attention you pay to them.

Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Home Alone With You

Millie, a heavy set woman in her mid fifties set the ham on the dining room table and called her husband Bud and their son Billy in for Sunday Dinner. Billy only ate with them on Sundays. The rest of the week when he was home he kept to his room and she brought him trays. Millie worried about him. Her husband Bud took a more philosophical approach.

“Just recognize that our boy’s a genius and leave him to be whom the good Lord intended. Believe me Millie I can recognize a genius when I see one. And our son’s the real McCoy.” He cleared his throat. “Even though I do wish that by now he’d find a better paying job and maybe even his own apartment.”

“But he likes working at home on his computer and besides it’s nice having him around.”

Except for the gigantic monitor that loomed atop his boyhood desk, Billy’s bedroom had the same curtains and furniture he had since graduating high school fifteen years ago.

Whenever Millie came in he’d be reading or typing feverishly. Not wanting to interrupt she’d tiptoe about tidying up; once a week she changed his bedding and collected his dirty laundry. She looked forward to their Sunday dinner get-togethers.

That Sunday when he came into the dining room, Billy placed his laptop on the table. He turned it on and smiled at his parents. “I want you to meet my new girlfriend. Her name’s Jane and she lives in California.”

“Oh that’s wonderful,” Millie said. Now maybe he’ll get married she thought, and I’ll be a grandmother. “Isn’t that far away dear?”

Billy shook his head. “Not the way we see it.”

A lovely young woman wearing jeans and a multi color tee, with shiny hair, smiled at them from the screen.

“Mom, Dad. I’d like you to meet Jane.” Billy said.

“Hi,” Jane said. She seemed perfectly relaxed and comfortable.

Bud thought she looked like a celebrity. “You seem athletic.” He’d thought the woman his son would have chosen would be thin and wispy with numerous graduate degrees.

“Oh, once,” Jane shrugged   She opened her palms. “These days I design my own line of swimwear.” She giggled.  “But ever since I met up with this gorgeous hunk who happens to be your son…“ She giggled again. “All we ever do is skype, text and twit.”

Billy grinned and took another slice of ham.  “It’s just like she’s really here and we’re all having Sunday dinner together.“

“Where’d you two actually meet?” Bud asked.

“At Calliope U, in the student union of our on-line college,” Jane said.   “I saw him in my advanced programming class and checked out his stats on Facebook. This boy’s a keeper.”

Millie looked puzzled. “I’ll explain all that later, Ma,” Billy said quietly, then louder: “We’re inseparable.” He smiled. “But it wasn’t until Christmas recess that we started getting serious.”

Jane spoke up: “You’re both very, very kind to Billy. I’m so glad you’ll always take such wonderful care of him for me.”

Bud and Millie looked at each other quizzically. Millie stood up and cleared the dishes. Then she brought in her special homemade lemon meringue pie.

As Millie cut the pie she looked over at Jane, “I wish I could give you a slice too.” It felt strange talking to this isolated face on the laptop.

“Then you’ll move to California?” Bud asked. “Or will Jane come join you here?”

Billy looked confused. “What for Dad?”

“So you can be together, obviously.”

“But we are now.” Billy replied. “We’re always together.”

“And it’s wonderful,” Jane smiled lovingly from the screen. “Practically every minute of every day.” She winked. “And we can do anything we want and we do.”

“We’re always home alone with each other.” Billy said proudly. “Couldn’t get much closer and more together than that.”

Millie looked very confused. “I don’t understand.”

“We’re extremely happy, and so compatible. Our on-line life is complete and special,” Jane added. She looked at Billy fondly. “It’s always wonderful being home alone with you.”

“Is there a lot of this going on today?” Bud stared at Jane. “Do you two have other friends who live this way?

Jane shook her head. “We consider ourselves pioneers–introducing cyber living, a whole new way to be together.”

Bud looked at Millie.

Millie looked back at Bud. Finally she said.  “See? You always said he was a genius.“

“Mom, Dad,” Billy interrupted.  “We have something special to share. Me and Jane are engaged. We’re getting married.“

“Oh, all right,” Millie voice relaxed. “And you’ll move in together and start a family?”

Billy frowned. “What for?”

Millie’s face reddened. “Because that’s what people do.”

“No mom that’s what people used to do… and look at the condition of the world.”

“But…you won’t be together!”

“That’s not true,” Jane assured them. “But being home alone with each other is much more special than you can imagine. What keeps us together is our wanting it to be this way.”

“But that’s what marriage is.” Bud looked at his son in shock and disbelief.

“Dad! At least fifty percent of all marriages end up as train wrecks—sure, not you and mom. But you’re older and different. All that togetherness stuff today is weird. This way we both get to breathe.”

Millie’s face crumpled. “How will you exchange rings if you’re not….”

“That’s such an arcane custom,” Jane said.  “Our ceremony will be far more profound.“

“Than what?” Millie said.

“Do you know what people spend on weddings? And for what? A photo album and a dress put away in the attic?”

“And there’s more,” Billy went on. “Me and Jane have always lived in a country that’s at war. You know how many kids from my generation got blown to bits in the Mid-East?”

“War’s a condition of life,” Bud said. “I don’t like it any more than you. But that’s the way it is.”

“Exactly,” Billy nodded. “That’s why me and Jane want something different for our lives. We can’t leave the planet but we can embrace cyber living and live a real time free life.” He turned to Millie. “Anything you and dad do, we can do on line.”

“I’m so happy to finally meet you, and I know we’re all going to share a wonderful life,” Jane’s face lit up and she was all smiles. “You’re the perfect in laws. I’m so glad Billy and I have you in our lives. Gotta go now. Thanks for Sunday dinner!” She blew them a kiss and vanished from the screen.“

Billy folded up his laptop, put several more slices of ham on a plate and kissed Millie. “You and dad are the best, mom.” Then he picked up his laptop, took the plate and went upstairs.

Millie looked at Bud. “You wanted a genius and now you got one. Serves you right.”

“The Goddess Companion”

There was a monster, Argos,
with a hundred eyes of fire,
fire that saw everywhere at once.
When he died, the Goddess Juno
saved those eyes, by setting them
in the tail of her pet bird. She was like
a jeweler as she set them there
like stars in the peacock’s tail.
Daughter of time, Juno worked
in a frenzy of creation on this task.
~Ovid, Metamorphoses

Today was the day Roman women celebrated one of the most important festivals of Juno, the great Goddess of Women’s Power. Although every Calends, or first, of each moon-month was dedicated to Juno, the Nonae Caprotinae on July 7 was – with the March 1 Matronalia – the Goddess’ public festival. On this day, girls staged mock battles under wild fig trees and all women engaged in similarly unrestrained behavior. For Juno, who was castigated as an overbearing jealous wife in late mythology, was originally a complex Goddess who ruled all of women’s energies. And women are not only nurturing and kindly; we are also sometimes angry and fierce. Both of these aspects of feminine reality – and many others as well – were in Juno’s domain.

Finding ways to resolve conflicts, especially with other women, is one of life’s ongoing challenges. Roman belief was that each of us has a deep and abiding strength that helps us move toward the right path. Looking within for this strength will bring us in touch with the strength to the Goddess within us.
