Honoring the Goddess Every Day!

I Start Each Day with a Prayer to the Goddess!

Great Goddess, I begin the month of May with gratitude for the increase in the light that brings forth life from my soul
and from the earth. May my heart be fertile ground for the sprouting of your creativity, that I may be of loving service
to my family, my community and all beings.

In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

When the moon passes through the signs of the Zodiac
Which are most peculiar to the Earth, if you then plant trees,
They will be strongly rooted in the Earth;
If you plant them when she passes through the signs of the Air,
Then the tree so planted, will be plentiful in branches and leaves,

The Year Is Divided Into Four Seasons:
The first season is of a frigid complexion, and this is “Winter”;
The second is of the complexion of Air, and this is “Spring”;
Then follows the third, which is “Summer”, and is of the complexion of Fire;
Lastly, there is the fourth, wherein fruits are matured, which is “Autumn”.

Today Is …

Day of Dedication to the Star Goddess. Stay up late tonight and star gaze; learn the myths associated with the constellations you are able to identify.

On this day in the year 1938, the Long Island Church of Aphrodite was established in West Hempsted, New York, by the Reverend Gleb Botkin, a Russian author and son the court physician to the last Czar of Russia.

May 5-6 Hidrellez -The Turks celebrate the first of May with picnic outings, to celebrate the spring. One of the traditional dishes served is a Yayla Chorbash, a yogurt soup, which features many foods associated with May Day including dairy, fresh herbs and the colors of white and green.

St George’s Day -Although Apr 23 is usually considered St George’s Day, Eastern Christians prefer this date. It’s again a day for going outside. Serbs rise early, before dawn and go out into the woods to bring back flowers and green for decorating homes, schools and meeting halls. It’s considered a hinge day (just like Beltane), and the start of the swimming season.

On this day Bulgarians used to smear their doorjambs with fresh lamb’s blood as a charm against sickness and evil, which suggests the older custom that underlies the story of Passover and may be related to a feast of shepherds in the spring. Especially since in Bulgaria it is on this day that farmers ask St George to send them an even bigger lamb, promising to use it in the ceremony the next year. In Russia, this day is especially connected with soldiers, as is St George.

Goddess of The Day: Chantico
Family Week (United States)

Themes:  Kinship; Unity; Cooperation; Communication; Divination; Protection; Home
Symbols:  Fire; Metals; Minerals

About Chantico:  A classical Mesoamerican Goddess, Chantico personifies and safeguards the hearth fires and the home, the place where families gather.  The name Chantico means “in the house”.  Men going to battle pray to her that they will return and still find those home fires burning!  Children petition her to know the future.  She also became the guardian of lapidaries and some metalsmiths.

To Do Today:  Around the first Sunday in May, Catholic and Jewish congregations celebrate family week, a time to focus our attention on family solidarity and how to improve the quality of family life.  With our society having become so mobile, Chantico is a very timely goddess to entreat for assistance in this endeavor.  Gather with your family or friends today, light a candle (symbolizing Chantico’s presence), and rededicate yourselves to oneness.

Carrying or wearing silver, copper, red-toned agate, amethyst, or jade today draws Chantico’s presence and encourages the warmth of kinship no matter where you may be.  To extend this idea, take a piece of paper with the word earth written on it and wrap it around one of these metals or stones.  That way you share Chantico’s unifying energy with all the earth’s inhabitants.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies ~ Working With Herbs

Anthemis Noblis ~Sun~Magickal Herbe…Religious Herbe

Chamomile is a venerable herbe with a well-established reputation as a healer. It was believed that it brought health to one’s gardens and promoted healing energies which were good for all plant species. Whereas centaury is a patron herbe for herbalists, chamomile is a patron herbe for the gardens.

The strong association chamomile has with the Sun is an underlying indication of its modern usage. Through incense or ritual drink it is used to assist a priest’s call upon a Sun God (working with any of the solar deities). Some traditions have also used chamomile at Midsummer to give honor to the Father of Nature.

Useful in solar holidays, chamomile has been incorporated into Yule traditions. The options are endless, ranging from using it as a bathing herbe for the male chosen to represent the newly born Sun to powdering it and spooning onto burning coals to cense the temple area and prepare it for a celebration of solar magick.

Chamomile, though not commonly recognized for it’s magick, carries the magick of success and may be included in most recipes.

In the 1600s, sage was believed to render immortality. Today, the plant is still considered a powerful healing agent with many magical properties. Sage is often used during the month of May, along with butter and parsley, to promote a healthy body. Also sage ale, when drunk in May, will encourage good health. This multifunctional plant can be used to cure warts if fresh leaves are applied to the affected area. The leaves can also be used as a poultice to cure wounds and sores. by Verna Gates

Mother of Divinity,
face of infinity,
shine forth upon me.
Shine forth upon my prayer,
you who make all things fair.
Shine forth upon me.
Make me a fertile field.
Let all my projects yield.
Shine forth upon me.
Give me this dawn’s rewards
Know you are well adored.
Shine forth upon me.
~Invocations from the Indian Rig Veda

In Hindu philosophy, the great Goddess is sometimes named Aditi, the infinite. Her sister is Diti, which indicates both the earth and everything that has bounds and limits. Thus this Asian great wisdom shows us how the creativity Nature shows to us is composed equally of what we can fathom and what is beyond our understanding.

Even as we acknowledge the incomprehensibility of life, the goddess provokes us to attempt to understand. And so we open ourselves to her mystery and her majesty. Remaining bounded by our own limits, we would never reach our full potential. Even if we cannot reach her vast limits, we cannot help but reach for them.

About The Morning Feast and – The teachings here are based on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
