Honoring the Goddess Every Day!

I Start Each Day with a Prayer to the Goddess!

Great Goddess, let me awaken to the power of a humble heart that draws your
Divine energy into creation.
Let me give up the insecurity that bolsters ego and take my rightful place in the universe,
knowing that I am worthy of receiving the constant flow of love.
Let my heart be an empty cup, filled with your creative impulse.

In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

The Year Is Divided Into Four Seasons:
The first season is of a frigid complexion, and this is “Winter”;
The second is of the complexion of Air, and this is “Spring”;
Then follows the third, which is “Summer”, and is of the complexion of Fire;
Lastly, there is the fourth, wherein fruits are matured, which is “Autumn”.

Today Is …

Casse Canarie – In the Vodoun tradition, it this time of the year which is associated with releasing and honoring the dead, as well as Halloween, directly across the Wheel of the Year. The dead are free to roam the earth from Holy Thursday until Whitsunday.) Practitioners of Vodou breaks jugs at ritual involving the breaking of jugs is performed to send the souls of those who have died in the past year to the land of the dead. Floralia and Beltane ~ Ancient Roman Floralia (Florales Ludi) was a festival from April 28 – May 2 which began in Rome in 238 B.C. Floralia was originally a Spring Festival which honors Roman Goddess of Flowers, Flora (Chloris) another manifestation of the earth-goddess which includes Fauna, Maia and Ops. The temple of this goddess was founded on this day on the Aventine. Offerings of milk and honey were made on this day and the surrounding five days, which comprise the Florifertum. The city would have been decorated in flowers, and the people would wear floral wreaths or flowers in their hair. Games would be celebrated on this day. The celebration of this day survives in many cultures where it is known as May Day.

Beltane is the Celtic festival marking the beginning of summer, where the cattle was driven between purifying fires before they were let out to graze the meadows. Also the festival of Belenus, the Celtic God of Fire and the Sun. Beltane” was Bel-fire, or fire of the Celtic God Bel (Beli, Balar, Balor, Belenus), “Bright One,” God of Light and Fire. In the Celtic tradition, Beltane was the beginning of Summer. On this date, the herds were driven to the summer pastures, where they would graze and grow fat for the coming winter.

Floralia Begins – The Romans began honored the Sabine Goddess of blossoms and spring with six days of celebrations including games, pantomimes, plays and stripteases, which went on into the night illuminated by torchlight. Everyone wore their most colorful clothes and decked themselves and their animals in flowers. Goats and hares were let loose–they represented fertility and sexuality and Venus in her role as patroness of cultivated nature. Small vegetables (one imagines cucumbers and zucchinis) were distributed as fertility tokens. Flora represented the sexual aspect of plants, the attractiveness of the flowers, and was the matron of prostitutes.

Goddess of The Day: Shina Tsu Hime
Tako-Age (Japan)

Themes:  Wishes; Freedom; Playfulness; Air Element; Movement
Symbols:  Wind; Sailing Ships

About Shina Tsu Hime:  This Japanese Wind Goddess disperses the morning fog.  She also keeps away evil, distracting winds, winds that threaten to uproot or blur our spiritual focus.  Because of this, Shina Tsu Hime has become the patroness of sailors and farmers, the latter of whom pray to her for fertile winds bearing seed and rain.

To Do Today:  Join our Eastern cousins in kite-flying festivities.  Shina Tsu Hime will be glad to meet with you in a nearby park and give life to your kite.  As it flies, release a wish on the winds.  Or cut the kite free and liberate a weight from your shoulders.

While you’re out, gather up nine leaves that Shina Tsu Hime banters about (one for each remaining month).  Turn clockwise in a circle, releasing all but one leaf back to Shina Tsu Hime’s care while saying,

Come May, bring movement in my goals,
come June–playful love makes me whole.
Come July, my wishes will I see,
come August–hope grows in me.
Come September, all distractions you abate;
come October, my spirit, you liberate.
Come November, my health is assured;
come December–in my heart you endure.

Keep the last leaf with you, releasing it only when you need one of this Goddess’s attributes to manifest quickly.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies ~  Finding the Perfect Pet Spell

To find a new pet, first think of the type of pet you want. Then go through a magazine, looking for images and words that describe your perfect pet. Cut them out and attach them to some construction paper. Visualize your perfect pet living and interacting with you. Be open to the many ways it is possible for your pet to arrive. If you get an urge to go to the animal shelter or to tell a specific person you are looking for a pet, follow through on it.

There is a small black bee, which is my mind.
There is a blue lotus flower, which is the Goddess.
Watch the bee fly straight into the flower!
The Goddess’ feet are black, just like the bee.
Black is joined to black! Mind to greater mind!
The bee finds tasteless any other flower.
This much I can apprehend. But here my senses
fail. I can see nothing more. She is such a mystery!
Thinking of her, I dive into the sea of bliss!
~Indian Poet Ramakrishna, To The Goddess Kali

It is not possible for the human mind to rationally comprehend the greatness of the Divine. There is  only one way to experience that greatness: through mystic union, which transcends reason and logic. Seeking to think one’s way to the goddess is like trying to walk to the moon. It cannot be done. But we can teach her nonetheless, transported by our inner wisdom. We reach her through direct experience, through living fully and passionately, more readily than just by thinking about her.

This does not mean we cannot engage in rational and logical discussion of Goddess traditions and rituals. But that will never be the same as the bliss of communion with her, which sages throughout history have experienced and have praised as one of humanity’s greatest gifts.

About The Morning Feast and – The teachings here are based on ordinary magick, the principle that the mundane and the Divine are not separate, but peacefully coexist in all things. Know Mother Earth as the ultimate healer, and learn to utilize her gifts of nature. Inside each woman is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.
