I Start Each Day with a Prayer to the Goddess!
A Prayer from the Ute
Earth teach me quiet,
as the grasses are still with new light.
Earth teach me suffering,
as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility,
as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring,
as mothers nurture their young.
Earth teach me courage,
as the tree that stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation,
as the ant that crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom,
as the eagle that soars in the sky.
Earth teach me acceptance,
as the leaves that die each fall.
Earth teach me renewal,
as the seed that rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself,
as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness,
as dry fields weep with rain.

In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.
Taurus Begins
From April 20 (21) to May 20, the sun is in the second sign of the zodiac, symbolized by the bull. Taurus, an earth sign, is ruled by the planet Venus, named after the ancient Roman goddess of beauty and love. Taurus represents both the Bull and the Cow. The cow has long been venerated as the nurturer, since the time of the ancient Goddess religions, such as Isis and Hathor of the Egyptians. Taurus rules the throat, sometimes endowing Taurian with a powerful, beautiful voice. Taurian are usually artistically or musically talented, or at least have a love of those arts

GrannyMoon Says Today Is: Tiu’s Day or Tyr’s Day!
The day of Mars…also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose Magickal influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Tuesday comes under the influence of Mars, the planet associated with vitality, passion, ambition, and raw, unabashed power.
Mars energy makes the mind acute, and the body restless; therefore, on Tuesday we are likely to exert ourselves physically and take action to achieve goals. This day is dynamic and high-spirited, and the prevailing energies may include carelessness and destructiveness as well, so it is good to be cautious—especially while traveling.
Tuesday is the proper day of the week for spell work based on justified wrath, wearing red and using iron or amethyst. Money, enemies, courage, energy. Wear a ruby, star sapphire, or emerald. Use topaz in amulets.
Today’s Magickal Influences ~ Destination, War, Courage, Surgery, Physical Strength
Today’s Goddesses: Aset [Isis], Soorejnaree, Pingalla, Anna, Aine, Danu, Yngona, Bellona, Aida Wedo, Sun Woman
Perfumes: Hellebore, Carnation, Patchouli
Incense: Lignum Aloes, Plantain
Color of The Day: Red
Heads Up For Tomorrow: Green, brown, amethyst, yellow
Lucky Sign: Tuesday Is The Lucky Day For Aries
Candle: Red
Heads Up For Tomorrow: Wear Green and Silver
Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Today Is …
Part of World Week for Animals in Laboratories. Do Magic to end animal suffering.
Birthday of Rome. On this day, an annual festival called the Palilia (Feast of Pales) was celebrated in ancient Rome to honor the pastoral goddess Pales. In the country, special purification rites were performed to keep the sheep disease-free. Shepherds, followed by their flock, would traditionally leap through bonfires. In the city of Rome, the festival was celebrated with wine and merriment.
Baha’i: The first day of the Festival of Ridvan. A 12-day festival celebrating the revelation of the Baha’i faith by the Bahá’u’lláh to his companions in the garden of Ridvan in 1863. It is the most holy of all Baha’i celebrations.
Rome: Palilia – sacred to the God Pales, after whom the Palatine hill is named. On this festival day, feasts were held, and fires were made from olive wood, pine, savine, laurel and sulphur. Cattle were made to walk through the smoke as a means of purifying them. This is also the traditional day on which Rome was founded by Romulus. A festival celebrated by the Romans, in honour of the Goddess Pales, who watched over the cattle. Celebrations of Pales predate the adoption of Greek Gods into the Roman pantheon.

Goddess of The Day: Tauropolos
Taurus Begins (Various Locations)
Themes: Work; Patience; Strength; Courage
Symbol: Bull
About Tauropolos: No Goddess could better represent this date other than Tauropolos, the Cretan Bull Goddess whose name literally means “Bull Lady” (and that’s no bull!). Teaching us the virtues of diligence and the rewards of hard work, Tauropolos also has a strong connection to the fields (the plow) and the hearth, where food from the fields gets prepared.
To Do Today: The Cretans were well known for having bull-leaping festivals that honored this goddess, probably as a fertility rite and test of one’s bravery. Oddly enough, this is how we come by the saying “seize the bull by the horns!” So, if there’s an area of your life in which you want to really seize the day, try this simple symbolic spell. Find any image of a bull (in a magazine, carved out of stone, or in some other form). Put it on the floor, and put a symbol of your aspiration on the side of the image across from you.
Say:
Tauropolos, prepare the fields for success;
help me now to do my best.
Leap over the image and claim victory!
If you can’t find bull images, any harvested item may represent Tauropolos instead. If you choose this option, be sure to consume the food later. This way you can internalize this Goddess’s tenacity, persistence, and fortitude, then apply them toward successfully achieving your goals.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies ~ The Scarlet Letter Spell
When you mail a job resume or other important document, you want your letter to be noticed. Apart from using a colored envelope or big commemorative stamp, what can you do? Well, you can get some powdered ginseng (it comes as an herbal supplement at health food stores). Then, cast a circle and light a red candle. If possible, play some trumpet music, or anything lively with lots of brass and drums.
Dust the ginseng lightly over your envelope and visualize the envelope glowing a brilliant red. Pass the envelope over the candle several times (not close enough to scorch it or get smoke on it!), and chant:
“Crimson and gules, scarlet and red, incarnadined letter, seen clear and read.”
Mail your letter as soon as possible. The energy charge will draw attention to your letter.

Heartwings 668: Robin’s Garden
Heartwings says, “A garden can be large or small, what matters is that it grows.”
My late son Robin was a gardener by nature; it was important to him to have a garden. While I can no longer have one, I do grow something every spring in his memory: I create what I call Robin’s garden, not with seeds but with recycled carrot tops. I always have carrots in my refrigerator–you never know when you’ll need a carrot whether for soup, salad, or just to cook for a meal. In the spring, when I take out my organic carrots, the tops often have sprouted.
These sprouts are my cue to begin Robin’s annual memorial garden. I cut about a half to three quarters of an inch or so off the top of each sprouted carrot and place as many as I have in a shallow dish where they will get some light on my kitchen counter. Before too long the green feathery tops appear and these will grow for a while until they have exhausted the nourishment left in the carrot stubs. I call this Robin’s garden.
Sometimes the carrot stubs grow little roots. I have read that if I were to plant them–which I have not done, they might grow another carrot. I watch with pleasure the little green sprouts grow and think of my son and his green thumb. While he is no longer growing anything on Earth, his life has inspired wonderful growth here, both for me and for his sister, my daughter Laura. She has done and continues to do valuable work to bring awareness of and assistance to those with traumatic brain injury.
As for me, after he died, because Robin loved poetry, I began a deliberate focus for myself on what I call the poetic eye: a way of looking at life from a poetic perspective. Since his death I have written many hundreds of poems, and this work is also dedicated to him. There are others who have been inspired by him as well. He goes on living in their efforts. While I regret deeply that he is no longer on earth, I celebrate his life with my remembrance, and with these little carrot tops that I grow each spring.
May you garden with joy, regardless how and where you do.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Dining With the Dead
Following her personal trainer’s advice to dine quietly in the presence of nature, Emily took her lunch in the nearby cemetery. Carl, a widower was tending the plot of his deceased wife. Emily, taken by the lovely rosebushes planted by the tombstone sat across from it on a bench.
“Well hello,“ he said cheerfully. ” Were you a friend of Agatha’s?“
“No,” she stammered. “I love roses and saw the bench. I hope it’s all right having lunch here.”
“Of course,“ Carl smiled. “Agatha would have liked that. She loves watching people eat. She was a chef trained in Paris. May I offer you one of her deviled eggs?” He opened a basket and took out a platter.
Emily was surprised. She had never been offered deviled eggs in a cemetery before,
“Why thank you. They really look delicious. But I’m working with a personal trainer and watching my weight.“
“What for?” He noticed her lunch consisted of two stalks of celery, some grapes and a diet shake.
“If I may say you’re incredibly lovely just the way you are.“
“Why thank you,” she blushed. “That’s very kind. I just wish my bathroom scale agreed.”
“You have nothing to worry about. Agatha’s devil eggs are guaranteed to keep anyone thin who eats them.“
She laughed. “In that case just one.”
He held out the platter.
She took one, tasted it. Her face brightened. “That was the best deviled egg I’ve ever had.”
“Hear that Agatha,“ he looked toward a tree.
“I love the hint of tarragon.”
“Tarragon was her secret weapon. Have another.“
She devoured six halves. “Oh dear,” she sighed. “I’m overeating. She drank some bottled water. “You made them?”
“Oh yes from Agatha’s recipe. We were married for twenty years before her passing.“ He looked sad. “Now I’ve no one to cook for except me.”
“That’s terrible.“
“Have you lost a loved one too?”
Emily gulped. “No, not yet. I’m not even married.”
He seemed sweet and considerate. She didn’t mind that he was short, balding, with bags under his eyes her personal trainer would have attributed to too much cheese and dairy.
“And you cook yourself?“
“Who has time?” She said automatically. “My mom always told me to stay out of the kitchen.”
“I realize we’ve just met,“ he said slowly. But may I bring your lunch tomorrow?”
“You’d do that? Cook lunch for a perfect stranger?“
“It would be my pleasure,” he assured her. “And I know Agatha would be happy. She loves watching people eat her recipes.
Poor guy she thought. He must really miss his wife. Then she saw her personal trainer throwing up her hands. “I’d be honored. Anyone whose deviled eggs are so delicious….”
“Please have another,“ While she devoured two more, Carl jotted down his address and cell phone number.
The following day he served her lamb in a sherry sauce, au gratin potatoes and some sort of thick brown pudding. By the end of lunch Emily felt uncomfortably bloated.
Carl then proceeded to invite her to dinner.
Emily arrived at Carl’s at six on Thursday. The aroma of freshly baked garlic bread was captivating. A cut glass decanter of sherry accompanied a platter of pate, smoked fish, brie and crackers.
Over the mantle was a painting resembling a billowy voluptuous Renoir woman; the flesh beneath her chin was generous.
“That’s my Agatha,” Carl’s eyes misted. “She was so lovely.” He sighed. “And to think, when we met, she looked so much like you do now.”
Emily thought the rolly poly redhead in the painting bordered on obesity.
“My feathery pillow,“ he sighed. “So much to hold, so little time.” He poured them sherry.
After the appetizers Carl led the way to the dining table. “I hope you like vichyssoise. The entree is braised guinea fowl with chestnut stuffing. Agatha always said simplicity is the key to appreciative dining.” He served them generous portions.
“This so much more than I’m used to.“ Emily burped politely. “It’s all so good. I can’t stop.” An eventual chorus of loud burps accompanied her rumbling stomach.
Carl smiled. “ Hear that Agatha., Emily approves.”
“Hear what? Who heard her?“ Emily was confused.
“Agatha of course, she’s here.” He smiled. “But save a little room for desert, A raspberry chocolate torte drenched in brandy. Pay no attention to your stomach,” he advised. “The French always say that to eat is to love again.”
“What caused Agatha’s passing?“ Another chorus of belching burps. Emily had never felt quite so bloated.
“The bus carrying her and others to a chefs’ convention in the White Mountains skidded off the road and toppled over into a ravine. The insurance company dared suggest that had Agatha been sitting on the other side of the bus it wouldn’t have toppled. But she’s here with us now, aren’t you darling.”
Emily thought she heard the tinkling of a silver bell.
“I think its lovely that you still feel so close to her.“
“But she’s here!” Carl insisted. “Can’t you hear her little bell?” He waved his hand at the empty chair. To Emily’s horror it began moving backwards as though someone were standing up.
“It’s really late,“ she gulped jumping from her chair and moving toward the front door. “Really fine,” she said as she exited and headed for her car.
The following day Emily took her lunch to a park on the other side of town.

The Goddess Companion
This is how nature, our mother, acts towards us.
First, she gives us life. And then, as though
that were not miracle enough, she revives us
daily, bringing us back to life each dawn, just as
she brought us into life that first time.
Then she gives us food, enough to sustain
ourselves throughout our days. And finally,
when we have filled our days with her kindness,
she takes us back into herself, we fall back
into her deep womb, safe in her sacred darkness’s.
~Roman Prayer To The Earth, Third Century C.E.
The goddess of birth is also the goddess of death. It is easy, in the pleasant days of springtime, to forget that these burgeoning plants will all die – some this year, as their annual cycle ends, and some in years to come, as when ancient oaks fall in springtime storms. And not only plants, but animals, will all die when their turn comes. The tiny chicks who today call their small sounds from spring nests will one day fall from the bright sky. Today’s kittens and puppies will live out their days, and then go back to the earth.
We, too, will die someday, as will our friends and loved ones. Perhaps today, one who is close to you will depart this life. Perhaps next week, next month, someone you love will die. Living with awareness of how near death stands is neither morbid nor terrifying. Rather, it deepens our love, for we recognize how fragile we all are, how soon we will all be gone, passing like weather across the face of a spring-green mountain.
